  I've heard many things about performance in C; casting is slow compared to normal assignments, functional call is slow, binary operation are much faster than normal operations, et cetera... I'm sure some of those things are specific to the architecture, and compiler optimization might make a huge difference, but I would like to see a chart to get a general idea what I should do and what I should avoid to write high-performance programs. Is there such a chart (or a website, a book, anything) ?

• Developing GWT without a net connection?

  Hi, When I'm developing my gwt project without a network connection, is there a way to detect this? For example, I have a widget that has an Image in it, and the widget does not display until the Image url request times out (takes a long time, like 2 minutes?). Also, whenever I refresh the page in hosted mode, it doesn't finish loading for about a minute, when no network connection - seems like gwt is trying to contact some external website and blocking on that until it times out too - making things really slow - any way to stop that too?   If you don't care about minifying your code, is there a way to get started using the Google Closure library without having to set up a subversion client and use the compiler? The Notepad sample program on Google's website refers to <script src="closure-library/base.js" > </script > Can you simply download closure-library/base.js somewhere and start playing with the UI examples? The Closure Lite quick-start version doesn't appear to include goog.ui

My guess would be to add additional nameservers beyond the first two. • jQuery Light Box not loading in all system?

  I am using jQuery's thickbox.js pluging, for a modal dialog box that will appear when some one first loads the website(as a welcome banner), and after clicking on "enter site" they should be logged in to my home page. But the problem is "Modal dialog box appear's to be empty in some system(i.e OS), with same configuration, and shows only the loading progress bar". it works in some system only.. please help to find the problem??
