• Enable DOM Access for Silverlight Web Part in Sharepoint 2010

  I am hosting a silverlight 3.0 control on my Sharepoint 2010 page. I am using the built-in SilverlightWebPart web part, where I have provided the path for .xap file. Its displaying properly, but when I try to access the System.Windows.Browser, its throwing an error. How do I enable this? I know if I host this in a ASP.NET page, I can add the param - <param name="enablehtmlaccess" value="true"/>. I have tried putting this webpart in a "content editor web part", and I have embedded the object tag to call the .xap file and its working totally fine. I need to make it work using the built-in Silverlight web part.

• WPF - Dynamic tooltip

  I have a class ToolTipProvider which has a method string GetToolTip(UIElement element) which will return a specific tooltip for the UIElement specified, based on various factors including properties of the UIElement itself and also looking up into documentation which can be changed dynamically. It will also probably run in a thread so when the form first fires up the tooltips will be something like the visual studio 'Document cache is still being constructed', then populated in the background. I want to allow this to be used in any wpf form with the minimum effort for the developer. Essentially I want to insert an ObjectDataProvider resource into the Window.Resources to wrap my ToolTipProvider object, then I think I need to create a tooltip (called e.g. MyToolTipProvider) in the resources which references that ObjectDataProvider, then on any element which requires this tooltip functionality it would just be a case of ToolTip="{StaticResource MyToolTipProvider}" however I can't work out a) how to bind the actual elemnt itself to the MethodParameters of the objectdataprovider, or b) how to force it to call the method each time the tooltip is opened. Any ideas/pointers on the general pattern I need? Not looking for complete solution, just any ideas from those more experienced

• jquery tab switching links so they jump to top of page?

  I was given some great help by redsquare to get this far to change jquery tabs from links within the content, but I have one more issue that I'm looking for support on... When a user clicks a link to switch to a different tab from within the content, can i get the page to jump to the top of the page? Within my demo link, scroll to the bottom of the page to click the links and they switch tabs just perfectly, which you can confirm if you scroll up. So, I'm looking for the switch to also jump the user to the top of the page, so the user doesn't have to "scroll" to the top of the page to begin reading new content. The problem I'm having is some content loads with links which are intended to load content into a secondary window. I'm using the .live() method to allow jquery to listen for new links loaded into the primary content div. This works until the .ajax() method is called for these fresh links loaded with ajax, where the method begins, but follows the original link before data can be received. I'm assuming the problem is in the client-side scripting, but it may be a problem with the call made to the server. I'm using the wordpress loop to parse the url and generate the html loaded via jquery. Thanks for any tips!

  I am putting together some guidelines for code reviews. We do not have one formal process yet, and trying to formalize it. And our team is geographically distributed We are using TFS for source control (used it for tasks/bug tracking/project management as well, but migrated that to JIRA) with VS2008 for development. What are the things you look for when doing a code review ? These are the things I came up with Enforce FXCop rules (we are a Microsoft shop) Check for performance (any tools ?) and security (thinking about using OWASP- code crawler) and thread safety Adhere to naming conventions The code should cover edge cases and boundaries conditions Should handle exceptions correctly (do not swallow exceptions) Check if the functionality is duplicated elsewhere method body should be small(20-30 lines) , and methods should do one thing and one thing only (no side effects/ avoid temporal coupling -) Do not pass/return nulls in methods Avoid dead code Document public and protected methods/properties/variables What other things do you generally look for ? I am trying to see if we can quantify the review process (it would produce identical output when reviewed by different persons) Example: Saying "the method body should be no longer than 20-30 lines of code" as opposed to saying "the method body should be small" Or is code review very subjective ( and would differ from one reviewer to another ) ? The objective is to have a marking system (say -1 point for each FXCop rule violation,-2 points for not following naming conventions,2 point for refactoring etc) so that developers would be more careful when they check in their code.This way, we can identify developers who are consistently writing good/bad code.The goal is to have the reviewer spend about 30 minutes max, to do a review (I know this is subjective, considering the fact that the changeset/revision might include multiple files/huge changes to the existing architecture etc , but you get the general idea, the reviewer should not spend days reviewing someone's code) What other objective/quantifiable system do you follow to identify good/bad code written by developers? • JQuery BlockUI - How to unblock UI after file download?

  Using ASP.Net, JQuery and BlockUI, I'm trying to unblock the UI after a download file dialog is shown. I have considered different options: Poll using Ajax calls to see if the file has been generated. Store the file in Session and redirect to same page and generate download then. But both options seem ackward, and I think there must be a clever JavaScript way to get a handle on or wait for a file dialog. Any suggestions?

• thesis in LaTeX without memoir

  Hi, I'm preparing a thesis report in LaTeX. I don't want to use the memoir class as I would like total control. I have two questions: My thesis consists of an introduction and then a series of articles pasted one after the other. Thus each article has its own abstract, introduction, etc... and a bibliography at its end. I understand that perhaps a package like multibib can help when we have multiple bibliographies. The idea that I came with is to write each article separately and then use pdfpages to combine the final document. Long time ago dvi files concatenation was popular but with graphics I think that pdfpages is better. I saw that another package exists, named combine which can help with what I am doing. I'm still exploring my options. Any suggestions? If I decide to use a book class instead to make my thesis resemble more into a book-like format which is better, then using the book class format gives me section headings like 0.1 Introduction with the leading 0. This 0 doesn't show in the article class format. How to change this default book class numbering format so that I'll have e.g. 1. Introduction? Thanks a lot...

• empty response body in ajax (or 206 Partial Content)

  Hi guys, I'm feeling completely stupid because I've spent two hours solving task which should be very simple and which I solved many times before. But now I'm not even sure in which direction to dig. I fail to fetch static content using ajax from local servers (Apache and Mongrel). I get responses 200 and 206 (depending on the server), empty response text (although Content-Length header is always correct), firebug shows request in red. Javascript is very generic, I'm getting same results even here: http://www.w3schools.com/ajax/tryit.asp?filename=tryajax_first (just change document location to 'http://localhost:3000/whatever') So, it's probably not the cause. Well, now I'm out of ideas. I can also post http headers, if it'll help. Thanks! • Deployed Qt5 Application Doesn't Print or Show Print Dialog

  I'm experiencing Qt4 to Qt5 troubles. In my application when the user clicks the print button two things should happen, one is that a PDF gets written to disk (which still works fine in the new version, so I know that some of the printing functions are working properly) and the other is that a QPrintDialog should exec() and then send to a connected printer. I see the dialog when I launch from my development machine. The application launches on the deployed machine, but the QPrintDialog never shows and the document never prints. I am including print support. QT += core gui network webkitwidgets widgets printsupport I have been using Process Explorer to see what DLLs the application uses on my development machine, and I believe that everything is present. My application bundle includes: {myAppPath}\MyApp[MyApp.exe, Qt5PrintSupport.dll, ...] {myAppPath}\plugins\printsupport\windowsprintersupport.dll {myAppPath}\plugins\imageformats[ qgif.dll, qico.dll,qjpeg.dll, qmng.dll, qtga.dll, qtiff.dll, qwbmp.dll ] The following is the relevant code snippet: void PrintableForm::printFile() { //Writes the PDF to disk in every environment pdfCopy(); //Paper Copy only works on my dev machine QPrinter paperPrinter; QPrintDialog printDialog(&paperPrinter,this); if( printDialog.exec() == QDialog::Accepted ) { view->print(&paperPrinter); } this->accept(); } My first thought is that the relevant DLLs are not being found come print time, and that means that my application file system is incorrect, but I have not found anything that shows me a different file structure. • Using Jquery UI Tab control in ASP.NET MVC

  I am new to jquery and am trying out UI plugins. For some reason this following code does not work, in the sense, it does not render the tabs and it's just a bunch of text. But when I copy the page source and paste it in the html page, and put it in the views folder, everything looks great, so , I assume all the js paths are good.   In the spirit of the "Perl Preamble" where a script works properly whether executed by a shell script interpreter or the Perl interpreter... I have a Perl script which contains an embedded HTML document (as a "heredoc"), i.e.: #!/usr/bin/perl ... some perl code ... my $html = <<'END' ; <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> ... more HTML ... </html> END ... perl code that processes $html ... I would like to be able to work on the HTML that's inside the Perl script and check it out using a web browser, and only run the script when the HTML is the way I want. To accomplish this, I need the file to be openable both as an HTML file and as a Perl script. I have tried various tricks with Perl comments and HTML comments but can't get it quite perfect. It doesn't have to be "strictly legal" HTML... just displayable in a browser with no (or minimal) Perl garbage visible.

• Getting started with Spring 3 Web MVC - Setting everything up

  Hi, I'm trying to get started with JAVA/Eclipse/Spring MVC but can't seem to find a "dummies" or "step-by-step" guide for setting everything up and creating the simplest proof-of-concept application. I found http://static.springsource.org/docs/...-step-by-step/ but there seem to be differences between Spring 2.5 and Spring 3 so i'm looking for something for Spring 3. Also, the tutorial for Spring 2.5 focuses on building the application usign Ant - This i will certainly be doing for releasing but when working within Eclipse i want to have set up the project so that i can use breakpoints/debugging and this is not covered at all. I've downloaded Eclipse, Tomcat and the Spring 3 Framework but that's about it and within the downloaded Spring Framework documentation it states: 2.3 New getting started tutorial There is now a new getting started tutorial for developing a basic Spring 3.0 MVC web application. This tutorial is a separate document that can be found at the Spring Documentation page However, i can't seem to find such a tutorial on the linked page. My main problem at the moment, as seems to be the case for many people trying to get started with Spring, is that i can't seem to get everything set up. I've got a copy of Expert Spring MVC and Web Flow and i've also found this tutorial but i don't know if the setups they describe are still relevant and whether they will allow debugging. Can anyone please give some direction? Thanks

• IE innerHTML chops sentence if the last word contains '&' (ampersand)

  I am trying to populate a DOM element with ID 'myElement'. The content which I'm populating is a mix of text and HTML elements. Assume following is the content I wish to populate in my DOM element. var x = "<b>Success</b> is a matter of hard work &luck"; I tried using innerHTML as follows, document.getElementById("myElement").innerHTML=x; This resulted in chopping off of the last word in my sentence. Apparently, the problem is due to the '&' character present in the last word. I played around with the '&' and innerHTML and following are my observations. If the last word of the content is less than 10 characters and if it has a '&' character present in it, innerHTML chops off the sentence at '&'. This problem does not happen in firefox. If I use innerText the last word is in tact but then all the HTML tags which are part of the content becomes plain text. I tried populating through jQuery's #html method, $("#myElement").html(x); This approach solves the problem in IE but not in chrome. How can I insert a HTML content with a last word containing '&' without it being chopped off in all browsers?

  Hi, I've got problems starting my WAR application on a local JBoss. I just need the links within to work as well. NOTE: They work if you right click and choose "Open in new tab".   I have a tricky one. By means of a <cfoutput query="…"> I list some records in the page from a SQL Server database. By the end of each line viewing I try to add this in to a record in a MySQL database. As you see is simple, because I can use the exact variables from the output query in to my new INSERT INTO statement. BUT: the rsPick.name comes from a database with a different character set and the only way to get it right into my new database is to read it from the web page and not from the value came in the output query. • Detect Autocomplete

  Hello, I have some forms that have inlined labels. I have some javascript (jQuery) that detects when focus has changed or when a user is entering text that changes the class so that the inlined label disappears and isn't blocking the user's view of their entered text. The problem I'm having occurs when the browser autocompletes the form. None of the conditions below are triggered so I can't clear out the inlined label. How can I detect the fact that text has been entered via autocomplete so that I can clear the labels?
