• [Three20] How to adjust width of TTStyledTextLabel ?

  Hi I am implementing an IM app on iOS. I found that three20 library has a TTStyledTextLabel which provides cool features like showing images and url links. However I want to embed the TTStyledTextLabel in a message bubble (just like the sms app shipped with iphone does), where I need the label to adjust its size according to the text length. I found that TTStyledTextLabel can adjust its height according to its width, but I don't know how to make it shrink horizontally when the text is very short and can't fill up a whole line. Any suggestions?

• Effecient data structure design

  Hi there, I need to match a series of user inputed words against a large dictionary of words (to ensure the entered value exists). So if the user entered: "orange" it should match an entry "orange' in the dictionary. Now the catch is that the user can also enter a wildcard or series of wildcard characters like say "or__ge" which would also match "orange" The key requirements are: * this should be as fast as possible. * use the smallest amount of memory to achieve it. If the size of the word list was small I could use a string containing all the words and use regular expressions. however given that the word list could contain potentially hundreds of thousands of enteries I'm assuming this wouldn't work. So is some sort of 'tree' be the way to go for this...? Any thoughts or suggestions on this would be totally appreciated! Thanks in advance, Matt

• How to center drawableTop and text vertically on the Button in Android?

  I have the Button defined as follows: <Button android:drawableTop="@drawable/ico" android:gravity="center" android:id="@+id/StartButton2x2" android:text="@string/Widget2x2StartBtnLabel" android:layout_width="0dip" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_weight="1" android:background="@drawable/widgetbtn_bg" /> The problem is that 'drawableTop' image is aligned to the top border of the Button view. I would like to center it (together with text label) vertically on the button. 'android:gravity' seems to work only on text label. It does not affect 'drawableTop' positioning. I was able to center it vertically using 'android:paddingTop' - but that does not seem to be a good idea. I guess it would not work properly on different screen resolution/size.

  I've created a list of recipes using Listview/customcursoradapter. A custom layout includes a photo for the recipe , Now I've some problems with the performance of viewing and scrolling the Listview although it has only 10 records (Target is 150). sometimes i get this error java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: bitmap size exceeds VM budget , I've tried to implement the Async task but i failed to do it. Is there any way i can overcome this problem? Your help is highly appreciated !! • Font not correctly displaying in Internet Explorer using the css property @font-face

  I'm trying to render a font using the css property @font-face , in Firefox, Chrome and Opera it works fine, but within Internet Explorer is just does not want to display correctly, and reverts back to another standard font.   I have to detect heads of people in crowd in real time.For that I detected edge from video using matlab but from edge detected video , how to identify heads that i am unable to do. I used edge detection of video because it is easy to find circle from edged video and detection of head would be easy can anyone help me or suggest me any method for head- detection in real time. I have used VGG head detector and viola jones algorithm but it is only detecting face for small size video not detecting heads for large crowd. Suggestions?

  Ruby 1.8.6 I have an array containing numerical values. I want to reduce it such that sequences of the same value are reduced to a single instance of that value. So I want a = [1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3, 3, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3, 3] to reduce to [1, 2, 3, 2, 3] As you can see, Array#uniq won't work in this case. I have the following, which works: (a.size - 1).downto(1) { |i| a[i] = nil if a[i - 1] == a[i] } Can anyone come up with something less ugly?

• Data Warehouse: One Database or many?

  At my new company, they keep all data associated with the data warehouse, including import, staging, audit, dimension and fact tables, together in the same physical database. I've been a database developer for a number of years now and this consolidation of function and form seems counter to everything I know. It seems to make security, backup/restore and performance management issues more manually intensive. Is this something that is done in the industry? Are there substantial reasons for doing or not doing it? The platform is Netezza. The size is in terabytes, hundreds of millions of rows. What I'm looking to get from answers to this question is a solid understanding of how right or wrong this path is. From your experience, what are the issues I should be focused on arguing if this is a path that will cause trouble for us down the road. If it is no big deal, then I'd like to know that as well.

• Plotting Points in Java with Interaction

  I have a large number of data points which are two dimensional coordinates with non-integer values (floats). I am looking for a Java library that can help me plot these points, allowing for custom point size, color, and labels. Further, I would like the user to be able to interact with the points with panning and zooming, and I want to be able to capture KeyEvents from the user. For example, when parsing an image, I often want to do something like this. (Note! Illustrative example only.   I have an ASP.NET page that has about 40 custom controls embedded in it. The controls vary in size; in their .ascx files, the biggest is about 1,500 lines and the smaller ones are between 100 and 200 lines (markup, script, etc). Each control is contained in a Panel. Only one of these panels is ever visible at any one time, which means only one control is ever visible at one time. My question is this: do the controls that are invisible still send ViewState for themselves and all their children to the client? It makes sense that they might have to serialize the fact that they're invisible, but not all the state info for their children...

(version 8.0.60001) The form content gets hidden, as does the content within the class='hide' div but outside the form, but the form border continues to show, and retains its size. Does anybody have a workaround for this? jQuery is version 1.4.2 I tried to create a small problem demo in jsfiddle, but that site was not functional in the IE browser.

  Hello there I am trying use a toolbar so that it has three parts part A is aligned left part B is aligned Center part C is aligned right both the right and left i can use the location attribute ... but since there is no center attribute i am not able to center part b. I can use a rich:spacer but this makes the toolbar rigid and when the screen size is reduced the toolbar gets overlapped ... is there any i can center this without the toolbar getting over lapped. Do you find TDD helps to focus your attention of getting areas of functionality complete before moving onto the next one? I quite often find myself getting a bit overwhelmed when I have an involving task on the go (even if it can be broken down into lots of small chunks), even though I know I'm more than capable of doing the work.   Hi, I'm reading about Azure and there are a couple of things I don't understand: If I choose put a server on Europe, why can't I move it to another datacenter afterwards? If I choose a size for a worker/web role, could I upgrade it to a bigger one afterwards? I think I've read that I cannot put different instances of a worker/web role with different sizes working together? Am I right? And in affirmative case, why? • Loss of precision - int -> float or double

  I have an exam question i am revising for and the question is for 4 marks "In java we can assign a int to a double or a float". Will this ever loose infromation and why? I have put that because ints are normally of fixed length or size - the precision for sotring data is finite, where storing information in floating point can be infinite, essentially we loose infromation because of this Now i am a little sketchy as to whetehr or not i am hitting the right areas here.   Is it possible to loop through a query so that if (for example) 500,000 rows are found, it'll return results for the first 10,000 and then rerun the query again? So, what I want to do is run a query and build an array, like this: $result = pg_query("SELECT * FROM myTable"); $i = 0; while($row = pg_fetch_array($result) ) { $myArray[$i]['id'] = $row['id']; $myArray[$i]['name'] = $row['name']; $i++; } But, I know that there will be several hundred thousand rows, so I wanted to do it in batches of like 10,000... 1- 9,999 and then 10,000 - 10,999 etc... The reason why is because I keep getting this error: Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 536870912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 3 bytes) Which, incidentally, I don't understand how 3 bytes could exhaust 512M... So, if that's something that I can just change, that'd be great, although, still might be better to do this in batches?

  I'm working on an application that is distributed over two JBoss instances and that produces/consumes JMS messages on several JMS queues. When we configured the application we had to determine which threading model we would use, in particular the number of producing and consuming threads per queue. We have done this in a rather ad-hoc fashion but after reading the most recent columns by Herb Sutter in Dr Dobbs (in particular this one) I would like to size our threads in a more rigorous manner. Are there any methods/tools to measure the throughput of JMS queues (in particular JBoss Messaging queues) as a function of the number of producing/consuming threads?
