• Restrict file access from PHP -> Java Applet

  I'm writing a portal in PHP that allows users to upload DICOM images, and allow users of the same group to view those DICOM images through a Java Applet. The html code to display images through the viewer looks like this: <APPLET archive=radscaper.jar codebase=./ code=com.divinev.radscaper.Main.class width=100% height=100%> <PARAM NAME=Config VALUE=config.xml> <PARAM NAME=DicomImg1 VALUE="relative_path1/image1.dcm"> </APPLET> So the generated html passes in a file url to the java applet. The problem I'm facing is - files would be stored in a public directory and easily accessed by anyone knowing the file url. Is there a way I can restrict file access to a certain user group?

• TFS 2008 warning when trying to add set-up project

  I have a similar problem to that mentioned here. However, mine is in TFS 2008. I get the following warning when trying to add a set-up project to an existing solution (either just create the set-up project or “add to source control”). The project that you are attempting to add to source control may cause other source control users to have difficulty opening this solution or getting newer versions of it. To avoid this problem, add the project from a location below the binding root of the other source controlled projects in the solution Continue / Cancel As with the question above, I think my folder structure is at fault. However, the current folder structure is as follows: Solution Main Project My guess is that, for some reason it’s trying to add the set-up project directly into the solution folder. So, is there a way to validate where it’s trying to add this without selecting “Continue” above? Alternatively, is there a way to force the set-up project to create in its own folder?

• Include all imports in Air application Bundle?

  How can I import all files and classes into my AIR bundle... it must take a note that I created first a flex project, and set it's main class as Actionscript (.as) . • WPF: Binding items added to UserControl's exposed children

  I have a user control that allows items to be added to it by exposing a Grid's Children property. Any control I add shows up fine but when I try to bind a property on the added item to a control in the main window nothing happens (example): <TextBox Name="txtTest" Text="Success!" /> <mycontrols:CustomUserControl.ExposedGridChildren> <TextBox Text="{Binding ElementName=txtTest, Path=Text, FallbackValue=fail}"/> </mycontrols:CustomUserControl.ExposedGridChildren> This example always results in the TextBox's text showing "fail". Here is how I'm exposing the children in the user control: public UIElementCollection ExposedGridChildren { get { return grdContainer.Children; } } Any thoughts? Is it a scope issue? • Can I make DataGridView.EndEdit trigger the CellValidating event?

  I'm using a DataGridView in my WinForms application. My main objective is to make the Enter key not move to the next row in the grid. I still want the enter key to validate and end edit mode. I found this FAQ entry and subclassed DataGridView to override ProcessDialogKey(). If the key pressed is Enter, I call EndEdit(), otherwise I call base.ProcessDialogKey(). It works great, except the CellValidating event isn't fired. Currently, I'm just manually calling my validation logic before I call EndEdit, but it seems like I'm missing something. I guess I could call OnCellValidating, but then I'd be worried I'm missing some other event. What I really want is some flavour of EndEdit() that behaves just like pressing enter on the last row of a grid with adding disabled.

• Apache issue with subdomains

  I just setup a subdomain with the following RewriteCond: RewriteCond $1 !^search.php$ RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f RewriteRule ^/?([^/]+)$ search.php?q=$1 [L,NS] I'm using the same rewrite condition on my main domain and it works perfectly. However, when I set it up on the subdomain, it simply outputs "index.php" when going to http://subdomain.domain.com Every page on the subdomain outputs the page name in the body instead of processing the code, except for the search page, which appears to be working correctly. Any idea why every page but the search page works? What can I do to correct it?

  I am used to writing C# Windows application. However I have some free hosted PHP web space that I would like to make use of. I have a basic understanding of PHP but have never used it's object oriented capabilities. Is there an easy way to convert C# classes to PHP classes or is it just not possible to write a fully object oriented application in PHP? Update: There are no reliance on the .NET framework beyond the basics. The main aim would be to restructure the class properties, variable enums, etc. The PHP will be hosted on a Linux server.

• Distributed version control systems merge easiness details

  I have just read Joel's blogpost concerning distributed version control systems and can't understand the main idea. He says that SVN thinks in terms of versions while Mercurial thinks in terms of changes. And, according to Joel, it solves merging problems. I heard this idea several times and still haven't conceived it. As I know, SVN's merging mechanism is based on changes (diffs) too. So what is the difference? I have no experience with distributed version control systems but I actively use SVN branching/merging and had no serious problems with it. Of course there are merging conflicts sometimes (when one piece of code was changed in both branches). But I see no way how this problem can be solved automatically by some kind of control version system.

  We're looking into implementing an issue tracker for our web agency. The problem is that most issue trackers seem to revolve around the assumption that an issue is a bug, whereas in a web agency environment, a lot of the issues (request, or whatever you want to call them) are about changes and additions to a current web site. It also seems to me that a lot of issue trackers assume that you're working on one main software project, and uses that project as the focus of the tracker. A good issue tracker for a web agency would be one which puts each separate client and their issues at the heart of the system, making it easy for them to track and report issues. Does anyone know of a good issue tracker for the web agency workflow? What are other people using?

  Given the following tables: Product ----------- ProductId : int (PK) ProductVersion : int ProductHistory ----------- ProductId : int (PK) ProductVersion : int (PK) Item ----------- ItemId : int (PK) ProductId : int (FK) -- ProductId + ProductVersion relates to ProductHistory ProductVersion : int (FK) And the following classes: public class Product { } public class Item { public Product Product { get; set; } } What I want to happen is this; we get a Product from the Product table, assign it to Item.Product property. But that Item.Product property should map to ProductHistory. The idea is that only the latest version of a product is in the main Product table, so we allow customers to search against that table (so that if each product has 4 versions and there are 1000 products, we only need to query though 1000 products, not 1000 products * 4 versions of each).   Im looking for a nice demo/sample using Windows Mobile Managed Gestures. I have a main view that contains a single panel. Every item in the panel is another panel containing pictureBox and a label. I would like to implement scrooling (finger flicking) to avoid using thin scroolers. Are the Windows Mobile Managed Gestures the right solution to get this working, if so can some one provide me with a begginers demo? Also a question ... does this work only on 6.5? Even if i got this working is there a way to support this in 6.0 ? thanx!

• How good is my method of embedding version numbers into my application using Mercurial hooks?

  This is not quite a specifc question, and more me like for a criticism of my current approach. I would like to include the program version number in the program I am developing. This is not a commercial product, but a research application so it is important to know which version generated the results. My method works as follows: There is a "pre-commit" hook in my .hg/hgrc file link to .hg/version_gen.sh version_gen.sh consists solely of: hg parent --template "r{rev}_{date|shortdate}" > version.num In the makefile, the line version="%__VERSION__% in the main script is replaced with the content of the version.num file. Are there better ways of doing this? The only real short coming I can see is that if you only commit a specfic file, version.num will be updated, but it won't be commited, and if I tried to add always committing that file, that would result in an infite loop (unless I created some temp file to indicate I was already in a commit, but that seems ugly...).

We consist in a group of 4 developers and a manager (that knows something about programming and distributed systems). Each one, having own opinion on service design. It consists in a distributed system: a user interface (web app) accessing the services in a dedicated server (inside the firewall), to obtain the business logic operations. So we got 2 main approachs that I list above : Modular services Having many modules, each one consisting of a service (WCF). Example: namespaces SystemX.DebtService, SystemX.CreditService, SystemX.SimulatorService Unique service All the business logic is centralized in a unique service. Example: SystemX.OperationService. The web app calls the same service for all operations. In your opinion, whats the best? Or having another approach is better for this scenario?

• DataReader Behaviour With SQL Server Locking

  We are having some issues with our data layer when large datasets are returned from a SQL server query via a DataReader. As we use the DataReader to populate business objects and serialize them back to the client, the fetch can take several minutes (we are showing progress to the user :-)), but we've found that there's some pretty hard-core locking going on on the affected tables which is causing other updates to be blocked. So I guess my slightly naive question is, at what point are the locks which are taken out as a result of executing the query actually relinquished? We seem to be finding that the locks are remaining until the last row of the DataReader has been processed and the DataReader is actually closed - does that seem correct? A quick 101 on how the DataReader works behind the scenes would be great as I've struggled to find any decent information on it. I should say that I realise the locking issues are the main concern but I'm just concerned with the behaviour of the DataReader here.

  Hello, I would like to utilize the UnitTest++ library in a testing file. However, I am having some difficulty getting the library to be included at compile time. So here is my current directory structure: tests/ UnitTests++/ libUnitTest++.a src/ UnitTests++.h unit/ test.cpp I have just used the UnitTest++ getting started guide to just get the library setup. Here is test.cpp: // test.cpp #include <UnitTest++.h> TEST(FailSpectacularly) { CHECK(false); } int main() { return UnitTest::RunAllTests(); } And I am currently trying to compile with: gcc -lUnitTest++ -L../UnitTest++/ -I../UnitTest++/src/ test.cpp I am currently getting a bunch output with ld: symbol(s) not found at the end. So how would I be able to get the UnitTest++ library properly included when this program is compiled? I am on a Mac and I'd also like for there to be an easy way for people on a Linux machine to run these same tests. Whew, I hope this provides enough information, if not please let me know.
