Somebody told me, that Google DS is unsafe and Google would safe kind of an user data list about the files on my PC...
can anybody tell me something about it? Any experience?

I'm testing server connections using OpenSSL, with varying results
Server A: connection is successful, as are user login and the other commands I expected to work
Server B: connection is successful, but the server is unresponsive when I try to submit a command. I don't get an error, or even a disconnection – just a blank line from where I hit Enter or ^M
My hunch is that Server B's configuration requires a different character encoding or something and it's simply not recognizing my Enter keystroke, but I've looked to no avail... any suggestions would be appreciated!
In using i see 2 types of code
#!/usr/bin/sh
and
#!/user/bin/bash
I have Googled this and the opinions vary a lot. The explanation I have seen on most websites is that sh is older than bash, and that there is no real difference.
Does someone know the difference between these and can give a practical example when to use either one of them.
I highly doubt that there is no real difference, because then having to things that do the exact same thing would be just
I'm looking for an FTP Server that is able to launch on system startup and that a non-admin user is unable to close. I've tried xLight Ftp Server but while it launches on startup it doesn't start the server nor does it have an option for it.
Is it possible to have a menu in SYSLINUX that will automatically list all of the files in a given directory and allow the user to choose one to boot from as a kernel?
I want to pass a bunch of text strings via AppleScript or the command line to the app which should then, after prompting the user, return the selected item.
Quicksilver and Launchbar only seem to work on internally catalogued items or directory contents.
Are there alternative apps that accept custom items?
Hello,
I would like to configure a task like "child control software",
so it would hibernate the pc at certain times.
Is it possible to prevent modification (here: pausing) of
a task through requiring the entering of the admin password to modify,
EVEN THOUGH the currently-logged-in (and only) user is
the admin account itself?
(Do you know of any child control software that does NOT require
an additional account yet is able to hibernate the system at
certain times?)
Thanks a lot!
Matthias
Background: As part an automated testing suite I am building, I need to set up Autologon on my virtual machines 'on demand'. By on demand, I mean that I don't want to necessarily pre-configure my VM or any snapshot to have Autologon set up already, for security reasons and also a huge business case.
My solution so far: I'm copying a script to the guest machine and then using Sysinternals PsExec to execute it. The script is:
reg add "hklm\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /f /v DefaultUserName /t REG_SZ /d myusername
reg add "hklm\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /f /v DefaultPassword /t REG_SZ /d myfakepassword
reg add "hklm\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /f /v DefaultDomainName /t REG_SZ /d mydomain
reg add "hklm\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /f /v ForceAutoLogon /t REG_SZ /d 1
reg add "hklm\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon" /f /v AutoAdminLogon /t REG_SZ /d 1
reg add "hklm\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\AutoLogonChecked" /f /ve /d 1
Note: I don't believe AutoLogonChecked is required for machines post Windows 2000 but I'm doing it just in case for now. Maybe ForceAutoLogon isn't either, not sure yet.
The Problem: I see PsExec executes this properly and all the values are in the registry, however when I restart the machine, the user isn't automatically logged on...When I run this a second time then restart the machine, the user is finally logged on.
A diff between the registry states shows that the first time I run this, it is missing both the "1" for AutoAdminLogon, and also the DefaultPassword key. The second time I execute it, these values are correctly intact as I intended.
So, what is going on here? Is this expected? This post claims in the end that it really all just works (the problem was that a logoff script was setting off the values). Doesn't seem to work for me however.
Note this seems unique to Windows 7, does not occur in Windows XP
Also note that you don't need PsExec to recreate the issue - just modify the registry yourself
EDIT/update:
Login interactively and run script (so, not executing it remotely), logging off automatically logs me back in (so, it works)
remotely execute the script in guest when I'm interactively logged in, logging off automatically logs me back in (so, it works)
remotely execute the script in guest when with non-interactive session if I log in afterwards (so, interactive now) then back off, it logs me back in (so, it then works)
EDIT/update 2: This only occurs for Win7x86, Win7x64, Win8x64. This does not occur for Windows XP

I understand that email addresses used by Exchange server of this format are called X500 addresses:
IMCFACX-_o=First+20Organization_ou=Exchange+20Administrative+20Group+20+28FYA8BOHF23SPDLT+29_cn=Recipients_cn=example@example.com
Is it possible to construct one of these addresses for a recipient who on a different Exchange server to me?
My aim is to send an email to such an address, which would tell my Exchange server to deliver it to a user on another Exchange server.
I work for a community group that holds an annual fund raiser for charity over a weekend. I am an excel user and am wanting to set it up so that I can assign a barcode on a card to a specific person. My hope is to be able to scan the barcode have it take me to a specific cell in the spread sheet so I can update the Commitment amount. and provide as much anonymity for our donors as possible.
Can this even be done?
With all of the new keyboard shortcuts added to Windows 7 I was wondering if a shortcut had been added to change the Desktop Background when the theme was setup to work as a slide show. I want to execute the Next desktop background command which a user is prompted for when right clicking a desktop that has been setup for a slide show.

One of my users has an HP DV5-1235dx laptop running Windows Vista Professional x64. Last night, our WSUS server pushed out a few updates including "Security Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems (KB960859)". When we try to boot the laptop today, a black screen with white text comes up displaying:
xxx/169894 (something)
Where xxx increments rapidly and something is some dll or registry key.
Eventually that stops and the screen displays
!! 0xc01a00d !! 35566/169894 (\Registry\Machine\COMPONENTS\DerivedDat...)
No other computers that received this update are displaying the same error.
So far I've tried running CHKDSK off of HBCD. It repaired a thing or two, but the computer still doesn't boot. I tried repairing the Windows install from the Vista CD, but I get a black screen with white text displaying something along the lines of:
0 No Emulation System Type 00
1 No Emulation System Type 00

Booting in Last Known Good Configuration doesn't work. Booting in Safe Mode freezes at

My next step is trying to boot Safe Mode with Command Prompt and try to run rstrui.exe. While I do that, does anybody have any guidance?
Edit: Booting into Safe Mode with Command Prompt will not work. See Booting in Safe Mode above.
Edit 2: I managed to boot from the Vista DVD. I ran the system repair, and now I get a black screen with white text saying:
!! 0xc0000034 !! 290/169894 (_0000000000000000.cdf-ms)
Edit 3: I ran the system repair again, and it attempted to repair my hard drive. It failed.

I have a local share with my VMware development server and I'm finding that when I create new files via Mac OS X, they are created under root instead of jacob.
Which is weird because when I do the connect to server thing I'm explicit about the user being jacob i.e.

Under Ubuntu 8.10, bash shell, the LANG and LC_ALL variables are not set:
user@machine1:~$ locale
LANG=
LC_CTYPE="POSIX"
LC_NUMERIC="POSIX"
LC_TIME="POSIX"
LC_COLLATE="POSIX"
LC_MONETARY="POSIX"
LC_MESSAGES="POSIX"
LC_PAPER="POSIX"
LC_NAME="POSIX"
LC_ADDRESS="POSIX"
LC_TELEPHONE="POSIX"
LC_MEASUREMENT="POSIX"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="POSIX"
LC_ALL=
Where should I set those variables so that they point to en_US.UTF-8. Once that is done, do I need to restart anything?
Is there any way to run a script whenever the user tries to send mail? I'm particularly interested in ensuring that outbound mail doesn't have a blank subject line.
Solutions that involve plug-ins are welcome!
I have a blog that uses BlogEngine.net I am looking for an extension that automatically adds a "Tweet this" link for every post. When a user clicks on the "Tweet this" link, it would take them to their Twitter account with the "What are you doing" textarea prepopulated with the link of my blog post.
Are there any out there that let me do this?
I'm running Xubuntu 12.04 (I installed using the alternative installer.) running in Virtaulbox 4.1.20
My issue is with the login screen (lightdm-gtk-greeter). It usually runs just fine, and allows users to log in and out but it will hang if the user presses the cancel button. The interface is still working (ie, shutdown menu is still available, I can switch to a different tty) but the username or password field (depending on when the button is hit) is disabled. Restarting lightdm will reset the screen, but the problem still exists.
The issue is only with the cancel button. The login, session, and language buttons/menus as well as the accessibility and shutdown menu appear to work normally.
I've modified some of the config files for lighdm-gtk-greeter, specifically /etc/lightdm/lighdm-gtk-greeter.conf to change the background image and /etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf to disable the user list. I did not check to see if the error existed before the changes took place. The changes have been restored the default settings but the problem persists.

Am a large keyboard user, and I've never hit back/forward/refresh or the favourite buttons on my browsers. Within safari, I can modify each of the buttons that appear.
I wish in Chrome to only be able to see the address bar, and the page. Is this possible?
I have set up an OpenVPN server on a VPS in the USA and configured it to route all clients traffic through it. Everything seems to work fine regarding the VPN connection in gerneral. All ip lookup sites show me the us server's ip address and even hulu.com works(it won't work if you are not in the usa). But for some reason netflix.com says "Sorry, Netflix is not available in your country yet.". So I thought that netflix probably uses some more sophisticated ways to determine your location beyond just your ip address. But I could not find a way to get it to work until I dropped the idea of using a VPN and instead connected to the server via a simple socks tunnel with ssh by running:
ssh -D 9999 user@serverip
All I had to do was changing the key
network.proxy.socks_remote_dns
in Firefox from false to true to prevent DNS leaks and setting up the socks proxy. Then I could finally watch netflix.com. As a result I concluded that there is nothing in the browser(or something like system timezone) that tells netflix the location, so it has to have something to do with the OpenVPN config.
After that I used tcpdump to log all the traffic on the server's network interface venet0 (OpenVZ VPS), visited netflix.com on the client while first connected to the VPN and then connected via socks tunnel and afterwards compared both outputs.
The only thing that caught my eye was that while using the socks tunnel the server mainly used ipv6 to connect to netflix whereas it only used ipv4 when the client was connected to the OpenVPN server. But I don't get how that could make such a difference.
So what am I missing? Is there a way to configure OpenVPN to also use ipv6 to connect to a website although there is only an ipv4 connection between the VPS and the client?

I am a new user to Adobe After Effects. I have a 2 year old system, which i just upgraded to 8GB of ram (from 3GB). I've also switched my windows page file to a seperate physical drive. I'm looking for additional suggestions for After Effects.
When I use adduser or useradd from console to add users I can't login when using KDE, how do I add the to be able to use KDE as well, for now I have KDE access with only one user which I used to install kubuntu with sudo. What can I do so that users can login in KDE?
i am a home user of windows 7 and really like the new features like

taskbar thumbnails etc
i am also exploring benefits of homegroup, federated search and since i am a developer intending to start ASP.NET MVC 2 development from PHP, i am thinking a Windows Home Server maybe useful for me.
but what i need, IIS, homegroups etc are offered in Windows 7 too. i am wondering why will i want to have a home server instead? i believe it will offer some benefits i should know of?
