  • Advice for UPC/Surge Protector in home office

    I'm just starting out as an independant developer, mostly Unix stuff with some Windows thrown in occasionally. I've been running two machines, a linux and a windows dev machine. Long story short, we had a bad storm come through last week and I unplugged one machine, forgot to unplug the other and the p/s and mobo ended up dead. Luckily I backup to an external service religiously (rsync.net for anyone interested), so there was no loss in data, but it did show me a glaring hole in my current setup, namely, lack of UPC and Surge Protection (this has honestly never been an issue before). Can anyone recommend a UPC/Surge Protector for a home office? It only needs to support a single machine (I opted to use vmware instead of rebuilding that machine), but it's a quad core Phenom 2 with a 1k watt p/s. This is outside my experience so I thought I'd get some input from others. I'm looking for something that's reasonably priced and does the job reasonably well. I don't need absolute 100% uptime, just something to protect my PC better than it is now.

    Hey everyone, On a Vista dev machine I used this code successfully to change user "Administrator" password: directoryEntry.Invoke("SetPassword", "new"); When I moved it over to my Server 2008 dev machine that code did not work, and I was forced to use the following code: directoryEntry.Invoke("ChangePassword", new object[] { "old", "new" }); My question is, why? For both cases, I created my DirectoryEntry object as such: DirectoryEntry directoryEntry = new DirectoryEntry(string.Format("WinNT://{0}/{1}", computerName, username)); Thanks! 8)

  • msysgit - sh.exe - fork: Permission denied - Vista 64 bit

    I installed msysgit on other Windows machines with no problems. On this Vista 64 bit Ultimate box, I installed the 3 most recent versions of msysgit. On all three installs, when I do a "git bash here", I get exactly this on the command window: sh.exe": fork: Permission denied sh.exe"-3.1$ NThe git command doesn't work. I get the same permission denied message. Any clues as to how to fix this?

  • How to input live video Stream to Microsoft Encoder.

    There is a facility in Microsoft Encoder to give input from a file or from a device such as webcam for streaming. But i haven't found a way to give live video stream to encoder. i.e. How to make encoder listen to particular UDP port.     Hi, I am using axWnidowsMediaPlayer in my windows mobile application with compact framework 3.5 . It was working beautifully few days ago but now whenever i try to play a song from url it shows the message "Can not play the file.The file is either corrupted or the player does not support the format you are playing" The same url is not played by the phone's wmplayer also but when I try to play it with the systems wmplayer it plays the same url successfully.
