  • Relative Path issue with .Net Windows Service..?

    I have a windows service which is trying to access an xml file from the Application directory. Windows Service Installed directory : C:\Services\MyService\MyService.exe Path of the xml file : C:\Services\MyService\MyService.xml I am trying to access the file using the following code. using (FileStream stream = new FileStream("MyService.xml", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read)) { //Read file } I get the following error. "Can not find file : C:\WINDOWS\system\MyService.xml" My service is running with local system account and I don't want to use absolute path.

  • Javascript check all checkboxes in a table / asp.net

    I have a table with rows in, and each row has a few <td> elements. The last element has a checkbox in. They are in a <div> which is set to runat="server". I have another checkbox on the page called "chkAll" that when clicked, I want to javascript check or uncheck all of the checkboxes in my table. I'm not very good at Javascript, so I am not sure what to do. I added a javascript onclick method, and put document.getelementbyid and put in the div.clientID, but I wasnt sure what to do from there. Any ideas?

  • resource embedding in asp.net

    I have a project which needs to generate PDF documents. I am using iTextSharp. I have a pdf which needs to be read and then appended to. To read the pdf document, I'm using PdfReader(), which accepts many forms, but I can't figure out how to reference a pdf in my webapplication to PdfReader. My host does not allow Binary Serialization (apparently that's bad), so I don't think I can load from an embedded resource. I've tried just using PdfReader("report.pdf"), but it keeps throwing an exception telling me that the file isn't found. I've tried putting the file in the bin directory, root directory, in the same directory as the class, but this still doesn't work. It works if I use a fully qualified path to the pdf document, but I can't use that when I upload it to my hosting provider. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I should do this? Thanks

    Hello, I'm creating an html page that is posted to another page for processing. I don't want users to see the weird URL they are redirected to and I was using FRAMES but I can't figure out how to add my HTML page dynamically because I need the variables and either add frames or try another way to accomplish this. So, based on how I'm creating the page below, how can I hide the URL and add something that I want. Here is how I'm creating the page.   • Can .NET AppDomains do this?

    I've spent hours reading up about AppDomains, but I'm not sure they work quite like I'm hoping. If I have two classes, Foo in AppDomain #1, Bar in AppDomain #2: App Domain #1 is the application. App Domain #2 is something like a plugin, and can be loaded and unloaded dynamically. AppDomain #2 wants to create Foo and use it. Foo uses lots of classes in AppDomain #1 internally. I don't want AppDomain #2 using object foo with reflection, I want it to use Foo foo, with all the static typing and compiled speed that goes with it. Can this be done considering that AppDomain #1, containing Foo, is never unloaded? If so, does any remoting take place here when using Foo? When I unload AppDomain #2, the type Foo is destroyed?

    I have created a UserSiteBaseController that gets commonly used data and sets the data to a UserSiteBaseViewData viewmodel in a method called SetViewData public T CreateViewData<T>() where T : UserSiteBaseViewData, new() { .... } I then create specific Controllers that inherit from the UserSiteBaseController as well as viewModels that inherit from UserSiteHomeViewData and can be created in the controller like so: public ActionResult Index(string slug) { Slug = slug; var viewData = CreateUserSiteHomeViewData<UserSiteHomeViewData>(); //If invalid slug - throw 404 not found if (viewData == null) return PageNotFound(); viewData.Announcements = _announcementsData.All(slug).ToList(); return View(viewData); } private T CreateUserSiteHomeViewData<T>() where T : UserSiteHomeViewData, new() { T viewData = CreateViewData<T>(); return viewData; } The UserBaseViewData holds data that needs to be use on every page so it would be great to be able to access this data from the Masterpage in a strongly typed manner.     When not using areas dealing with the url for the JsonResults from the clientside is not much of a pain, usually you can get away with hardcoding the url into your json calls and get away with it. Problem arises when you have different areas and you don't want to update all your links when you move a controller (and its views) from one area to the other. I'm not very satisfied with the way I'm handling this scenario by having this chunk of code inside every view: <script type="text/javascript"> var ControllerActions = { JsonSearch: '<%= Url.Action("JsonSearch") %>/', JsonDelete: '<%= Url.Action("JsonDelete") %>/', Edit: '<%= Url.Action("Edit") %>/', Delete: '<%= Url.Action("Delete") %>/' } </script> While it does work no matter where I place the views/controllers I wonder if there's a more elegant to do this.

  • how do I download a large file (via HTTP) in .NET

    I need to download a LARGE file (2GB) over HTTP in a C# console app. Problem is, after about 1.2GB, the app runs out of memory. Here's the code I'm using: WebClient request = new WebClient(); request.Credentials = new NetworkCredential(username, password); byte[] fileData = request.DownloadData(baseURL + fName); As you can see... I'm reading the file directly into memory. I'm pretty sure I could solve this if I were to read the data back from HTTP in chunks and write it to a file on disk. Does anyone know how I could do this?

    Okay so given a LinkButton inside a the ItemTemplate of a Repeater declared like this - <asp:LinkButton ID="restrictionDelete" runat="server" CssClass="restrictionDelete" Text="Delete..." OnCommand="lnkDeleteRestriction_Command" CommandName="Delete" CommandArgument="<%# Container.DataItem %>"></asp:LinkButton> Now,..the repeater is being bound to a list of Restriction objects so when the lnkDeleteRestriction_Command is fired I'm expecting that I can cast the CommandEventArgs.CommandArgument which is an object to my Restriction type. This doesn't seem to be so,..I just get the fully qualified type name as a string. Can I receive a typed command argument at all and if not, why is it an object? Thanks in advance,

    Hi, This thing is driving me nuts. I have a UserControl that is called WebUserControl. I need to cache this control, so I put the following in the WebUserControl.ascx: <%@ OutputCache Duration="240" VaryByParam="FeedName" %> Then I have the Default.aspx file in which I have: <div class="divInnerLeft" id="L1" runat="server"> <uc1:WebUserControl FeedId="a1" ID="a1" runat="server" FeedName=""/> </div> <div class="divInnerMiddle" id="M1" runat="server"> <uc1:WebUserControl FeedId="a3" ID="a3" runat="server" FeedName=""/> </div> In the Page_Load event I set the FeedName property - according to the user preferences. The problem is that after initially loading the page, the controls are generated OK. But then, in the Page_Load event they are not available again. So the a1 and a3 are null and I cannot set the FeedName for different user. How to solve this? Thanks!

    I've been using my own Error reporting module which was combination of simple c# and jQueryUI Dialog. Problem is that once error or success occurs i do write it's value to session. It does work pretty good on pages with Responce.Redirect on error but not on pages where i catch an error and then return to same form. My question is why does session which added pre-postback fails to load in pages where i have return statement on some condition. And if there another way to save errors and success message except in session ? Maybe global variables or something like that ...

  • ASP.NET - Google Chrome caching DropDownList selections

    I'm experiencing what seems to be a caching issue with Google Chrome and Safari on my cart page. In the cart there are 2 dropdown lists. When you hit the checkout button after changing the values in the dropdown lists, it commits what's selected in the lists to the database. It's a little bit hard to explain the unexpected behavior so I will try to write it out step by step with an illustration of my problem. Lets say the first dropdown list has the values of: VALUE1 VALUE2 VALUE3 And the second dropdown list has the values of: DUMBO1 DUMBO2 DUMBO3 I add an item to my cart. Screen Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 Database Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 I hit Checkout. Database says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 (I can't see the dropdown lists after I hit checkout because i'm not at the cart page) I hit the back button. Screen Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 Database Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 I drop down the VALUE1 combo and select VALUE2, VALUE2 is selected momentarily and then the site posts back and VALUE1 is re-selected in the drop down list (from being reloaded from the DB) MOMENTARILY Screen Says: VALUE2, DUMBO1 Database Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 THEN AFTER POSTBACK FROM DROPDOWNLIST_SELECTIONCHANGED EVENT Screen Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 Database Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 Hit Checkout. Database Says VALUE1 ,DUMBO1 (I can't see the dropdown lists after I hit checkout because i'm not at the cart page) Go back. Screen Says: VALUE2, DUMBO1 Database Says: VALUE1, DUMBO1 So it appears that it's remembering my selection of VALUE2 even though it jumped back to VALUE1 before I checked out. It seems to be a caching problem, however I've got some no-cache code to prevent caching of that page that works great in firefox and internet explorer but seems to be failing in Chrome and Safari. I'm basically returning in the headers for the cart page: no-cache, no-store, and must-revalidate to attempt to prevent caching, but based on this scenario it seems to be caching the page anyway and not reloading it when I hit the back button. I am open to any solutions or suggestions at this point. Thanks!
