• Embedded strongly-typed views with ASP.NET MVC

  I'm working on a plugin-type of system for ASP.NET MVC that loads views from an embedded assembly. I have created a VirtualPathProvider that does the work of retrieving out of the assembly. Everything is working fine except for strongly-typed views. Whenever I try to load one of those, I get an exception of: Could not load type 'System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage'. The problem is that there is no Web.config file under the Views folder. Well, actually there is, but the system doesn't seem to want to read the embedded version. If I manually create the file under the corresponding directory in the web app, everything is fine. This isn't an acceptable workaround however, as each plugin would need its own file in its own specific directory. Does anyone know how I might get ASP to read the embedded Web.config file?   I have created an ASP.NET application which creates threads in an infinite loop. I set maxWorkerThreads to 20 in processModel in machine.config. When I checked the Thread count in perfmon there was around 7000 threads created in worker process. • Identifying which value of a multi-row inserts fails foreign key constraint

  I have a multi-row insert that looks something like: insert into table VALUES (1, 2, 3), (4, 5, 6), (7, 8, 9); Assume the first attribute (1, 4, 7) is a foreign key to another table and assume that this referenced table does not have the value '4'. A MySQLExeption is thrown with error code 1452. EXCEPTION: Cannot add or update a child row: a foreign key constraint fails (dbName/tableName, CONSTRAINT id FOREIGN KEY (customer_id) REFERENCES referencedTable (customer_id)) Is there a way to identify which value caused the error? I would love to give my user an error message that said something like: Error: '4' does not exist in the referenced table. I am using the .NET mysql connector to execute the insert. Thanks- Jonathan

My listed code works great, with one exception: it won't return users who have their primary group set to "Domain Users". How can I get a list of all users in the group, including those who have it set as their primary group? • When is a scala partial function not a partial function?

  While creating a map of String to partial functions I ran into unexpected behavior. When I create a partial function as a map element it works fine. When I allocate to a val it invokes instead. Trying to invoke the check generates an error. Is this expected? Am I doing something dumb? Comment out the check() to see the invocation. • Problem with connection to MS SQL Server database using SSMS

  I have a database on line with Godaddy (who uses SQL Server 2005). They provide basic management tools, but tell you that for more advanced tools you can connect directly using SSMS. I followed their instructions to ensure my online database will accept remote connections, and can apparently log in using SSMS with success (after giving my hostname and access data). • C# threading a FolderBrowserDialog

  Hi, Im trying to use the FolderBrowserDialog to select a folder in C#. At first I got a Thread exception, so I googled what was wrong and fixed that but now im stuck at a nother problem. I whant to know when a folder has been selected. I dont want to change the thread for txtWorkingFolder, so my question is this, how do I change it's value from the new thread once the DialogResult.OK has been set? Thx for any help! /Marthin

• Why does Excel expose an 'Evaluate' method at all?

  A few questions have come up recently involving the Application.Evaluate method callable from Excel VBA. The old XLM macro language also exposes an EVALUATE() function. Both can be quite useful. Does anyone know why the general expression evaluator is exposed, though? My own hunch is that Excel needed to give people a way to get ranges from string addresses, and to get the value of named formulas, and just opening a portal to the expression evaluator was the easiest way. But of course you don't need the ability to evaluate arbitrary expressions just to do that. Application.Evaluate seems kind of...unfinished. It isn't very well documented, and there are quite a few quirks and limitations (as described by Charles Williams here: http://www.decisionmodels.com/calcsecretsh.htm) with what is exposed. I suppose the answer could be simply "why not expose it?", but I'd be interested to know what design decisions led to this feature. Failing that, I'd be interested to hear other hunches.

• Maven2 compiles my tests, but doesn't run them

  I have a simple Maven2 project with tests written for TestNG. When I say mvn test Maven2 compiles my test, but don't run them. I already checked this page: http://maven.apache.org/general.html#test-property-name. This is not my case. Anybody can help? • Best practices retrieving XML/stream from HTTP in Android

  Hello everyone, what are the best practices parsing XML from an HTTP resource in Android? I've been using HttpURLConnection to retrieve an InputStream, wrapping it with a BufferedInputStream, and then using SAX to parse the buffered stream. For the most part it works, though I do receive error reports of SocketTimeoutException: The operation timed out or general parsing error. I believe it's due to the InputStream. Would using HttpClient instead of HttpURLConnection help? If yes, why? Should the stream be output to a file, having the file parsed instead of the stream? Any input or direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

• Are there any purely functional Schemes or Lisps?

  Over the past few months, I've put a lot of effort into learning (or attempting to learn) several functional programming languages. I really like math, so they have been very natural for me to use. Simply to be more specific, I have tried Common Lisp, Scheme, Haskell, OCaml, and (a little bit of) Erlang. I did not like the syntax of OCaml and do not have enough Erlang knowledge to make a judgment on it yet. Because of its consistent and beautiful (non-)syntax, I really like Scheme. However, I really do appreciate the stateless nature of purely functional programming languages such as Haskell. Haskell looks very interesting, but the amount of inconsistent and non-extendable syntax really bothered me. In the interest of preventing a Lisp vs Haskell flame war, just pretend that I can't use Haskell for some other reason. Therefore, my question is: Are there any purely functional Schemes (or Lisps in general)?

  I'm trying to call a parameterized stored procedure from SQL Server 2005 in my C# Winforms app. I add the parameters from TextBoxeslike so (there are 88 of them): cmd.Parameters.Add("@CustomerName", SqlDbType.VarChar, 100).Value = CustomerName.Text; I get the following exception: "System.InvalidCastException: Failed to convert parameter value from a TextBox to a String. ---> System.InvalidCastException: Object must implement IConvertible." The line throwing the error is when I call the query: cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); I also tried using the .ToString() method on the TextBoxes, which seemed pointless anyway, and threw the same error. Am I passing the parameters incorrectly?

  When you attempt to declare an unsigned variable in C#.NET with a value outside its value range it is flagged as a compiler error, but if you produce a negative value at runtime and assign it to that variable at runtime the value wraps. uint z = -1; // Will not compile uint a = 5; uint b = 6; uint c = a - b; // Will result in uint.MaxValue Is there a good reason why unsigned variables wrap in such a situation instead of throwing an exception?   Hello, I have created a real simple templated UserControl using the following tutorial: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/36574bf6(VS.80).aspx I can now add this control to my mvc 2.0 application using: <components:Box BoxType="Help" Title="Content Title" runat="server"> <Content> <%: Html.TextBox("test") %> This is my awesome content!<br /> <b>Test</b> </Content> </components:Box> However, when I go to the designer, I get an exception: Type 'System.Web.UI.UserControl' does not have a public property named 'Content'. How can I fix this? I don't even need to use the drag-and-drop designer, just rendering the control will do fine. Thanks!

• sqlite no such table

  can anyone please help. I've seen many people with the same problem and looked at all suggestions but still cannot get this to work. I have tried to unistall the application and install again, I have tried to change the version number and start again. I've debugged the code and it does go into the onCreate function, but when I go to make a select query it says the users table does not exist. Any help would greatly be appreciated.
