  I have tried to design the datastore schema for a very small application. That schema would have been very simple, if not trivial, using a relational database with foreign keys, many-to-many relations, joins, etc. But the problem was that my application was targeted for Google App Engine and I had to design for a database that was not relational. At the end I gave up. Is there a book or an article that describes design principles for applications that are meant for such databases? The books that I have found are about programming for App Engine and they don't spend many words about database design principles.

• Can not remove cube in UDK

  For some reason, I can't move or remove an 'invisible' cube which is on my map. I searched on Google to find a solution but somehow I still can't remove it. Selecting it and pressing the DEL button won't do anything. So, how do you delete the brown cube? EDIT: Seriously, I wrote this post a few minutes ago and I found the solution. • To have multiple sites with similar content on the same server but different IPs?

  I have 7 different sites on the same dedicated server. Two major sites have different IPs, and 5 small share the same IP. About first 2 they have similar content, but not the same. Basically they have different: URLs Titles Meta Data But they both have the same niche. I was thinking about two strategies. One is to move one of the sites (from 2 first one) on different server or move 5 other sites on different server. But I'm not sure which way is better. My questions are: Wouldn't be better from SEO stand point, to move those 2 sites on different servers? Does it worth it to spend for additional server? Do you know if Google penalize sites for similar content on the same server with different IPs?

  This seems to be discussed in many places. But I don't get it or it does not work for me. So let me explain. I use Firefox 24.0 on Lubuntu 12.04. In privacy settings, I have selected 1. Use custom settings for history 2. accept cookies from sites 3. never accept third party cookies. But then when I check (e.g. in show cookies in firefox preferences or in lightbeam), it still shows me many third party cookies (e.g. google.com, facebook, etc.). What additional steps I have to take to block them?

  I'm interested in developing for Ubuntu (mostly phones) and I can't seem to find the guidelines on app publishing, will apps only work through the ubuntu software center, or can users download and install an app from a website like is possible with an android apk? Also, are there any rules regarding in-app purchase methods, (I hope the minimum price here isn't $2.99 in-app as well or I'm not going to even bother developing for Ubuntu and will just stick with Android) Google for example, requires that in-app purchases go through their servers so that it isn't possible to use other funding methods at least for play store published apps. My main questions here are: Would it be possible to release an app for ubuntu touch that accepted bitcoin, paypal, or other methods for in-app purchases? If not, would it be possible to release apps through a personal website or 3rd party app market that could use alternative payment methods?

• My VPS cannot send email

  Webmaster Newbie Question I have a low end vps (128MB RAM)running on Debian.I used a bash script by ilevkov to setup the site. After some trial and error, I managed to set up a WordPress on it. Just now I found out that my VPS can't send any email. I tested using the WordPress reset password email, and it shows The e-mail could not be sent. Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function... After some Google session I noticed that I can send email from ssh. So I tried mail [email protected] Subject: Halo dion some message . and the result said EOT /usr/lib/sendmail: No such file or directory "/root/dead.letter" 9/243 . . . message not sent. The question How can I fix my VPS mail setting?

• What is a dedicated Linux box used for?

  So this is probably a very basic and obvious question for most people, but my google-foo is failing me and it just seems something is going over my head. I've heard numerous people refer to having a 'dedicated linux box' as a central part of a developer's setup. I have been doing web-dev programming for about a year and understand the benefits of programming on a Unix/Linux system. But I seem to be missing what role a 'dedicated linux box' plays in the development process. I would assume that it is used as a server of some sort, but I am yet to run across any needs to have a computer dedicated to running a linux server. Am I just being nieve and mistaking the commonality of programmers preferring to work in linux for a tool used by developers? What do most developers use their 'dedicated linux box' for?

But they forget how they learn this ability, or where (I know in school, no one gives us any ability, of course in my opinion). • How to set which application is launched by xdg-open?

  I have run update-alternatives as well as gnome preffered apps selection thing. And all point to have chromium browser as default. Yet when I run xdg-open http://askubuntu.com firefox is launched! Similarly emacs and bzr also launch stuff in firefox instead of chromium. Are there any additional settings which affect xdg-open functionality? Something is definatly broken: UPDATE I have purged firefox: update-alternatives - uses chromium browser sensible-browser - opens chromium browser xdg-open & gnome-open - opens using google-chrome which kindly tells me "it's not default browser" !!!!

• How do I set a static DNS nameserver address on Ubuntu Server?

  I am trying statically to set DNS server addresses in my Ubuntu server running as virtual machine. I followed all recommendations on official Ubuntu support pages but I simply cannot get rid of my ISP's DNS servers set by DHCP. I assigned br0 interface on my host machine static IP address and eth0 on VM to use Google DNS and my own local DNS running on the second vm by setting it in /etc/network/interfaces. Tried to fiddle with head base and tail files in /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/ and tried to shuffle interface-order in /etc/resolvconf/interface-order but when I restarted network service I got the ISP's DNS addresses back every time. Is there a way that I can disable resolvconf and set up my resolv.conf file manually as I always did on Red Hat? Or at can you tell me which hook script keeps putting ISP DNSs in resolv.conf? My ISP don't allow me to change DHCP settings on my router so I cannot do it that way. Why is such a simple thing such as setting DNS servers got so complicated???

• Developing for Chrome App/Android?

  I have been developing for win7 mobile (XNA/silverlight and will continue to do so, love everything about it) but I wanted to branch a few of my more polished games to google app store online, and perhaps android(though not sure, as with all the different versions it makes learning/loading applications a bit tricky) What is the most versatile language to start learning from chrome apps/android: Java would be excellent for android, but could I port it to a web app for chrome? (and its close to C#) Flash would work for a web app as I can just embed it into a html page (have done actionscript before, didn't care much for the IDE though), but would it also work on android? or I guess there is always C/C++ but haven't heard much about that, though I think it works for both (though C++ does interest me) Any advice would be excellent, thanks.

  This is a duplicate, however the solution given does not work. After updating to Ubuntu 12.04 from Ubuntu 11.10, all video is now blue, whether playing in a browser or a player. I have tried to uninstall all Flash and re-installed but makes no difference. Does anyone have any ideas? Fix (work around) Issue: All web browsers flash player video is blue Chromium Google Chrome Firefox Both flash plugins causes flash video to appear have a blue overlay, so remove. To avoid this, you use the lock keyword, but if you use that in the wrong way, your code deadlocks. It's all a nightmare. Luckily, there's a better way - Actors. They're really easy to think about. They're really safe (if you follow a couple of simple rules).   I am looking for a specific news portal CMS. I know all the major "general" CMS (like WordPress, Drupal or Joomla) and even the less known ones (like TYPO3, Expression Engine, Text Pattern or Concrete5). I'm already working with a Drupal distribution called OpenPublish and another WordPress installation to determine which would be better, but these are more of a Plan B. I would like to work directly with a CMS that was build exactly for this kind of tasks specific to a news / media portal. It doesn't matter if the CMS is commercial (however, I don't want to pay a monthly fee) or free, but I need to be able to use it on my own server / hosting and I need to be able to access it's source code (not to modify it, but to integrate it with future plugins / modules). If you know any CMS that qualifies for this job, please let me know. In the last few days I was all over Google but I couldn't anything worth mentioning.

The folder contains a css folder and PHP files. How would I bring this into Dreamweaver?'   After reading some Python material and seeing some Python code a few years back I decided to give it a whirl. I decided to start with Python to solve the problems on Project Euler and was throughly impressed with the language. Since then I've went on to learn Django, and now use it primarily for my web applications. I would love to have a career programming in this language, however I fear the future of the language is currently in a state of uncertainness. • Microsoft releases Bing iPhone app

  As its officials have been hinting and promising for a while now, Microsoft announced it has developed a version of its Bing search app for the iPhone. The new Bing app is available on the iPhone app store as of tonight (December 15). Microsoft already offers Bing on a number of mobile phones, and has a five-year deal with Verizon to provide Bing on a number of phones available to Verizon Wireless customers. A mobile version of Bing already is available for Windows Mobile, Blackberry, BREW and Sidekick devices on Verizon. In other Bing news, Microsoft has finally hit the 10 percent market share mark with Bing, according to the November U.S. search share data from comScore.
