  • Is there a way to iterate over all open windows in Mac OS X?

    - by Alex
When you unplug an external monitor with a higher resolution that your macbook from your laptop, the windows mostly retain their width, but their size gets clipped to the (smaller) height of the macbook screen. When you plug the monitor back in, their size remains frustratingly small. My question is: is there any way that I can iterate over all open windows, save their size, and restore them once the monitor gets plugged in again?

  • How to package Qt Framework on Mac OS X?

    - by Chris Kaminski
I'm developing an application for the Mac, and I'm wicked new at this - what would be the best way to distribute the Qt Framework so that I'm not impacting an already existing framework, and so that my App.app picks up the libraries. I'm also using boost, so I'm curious how a simple bundle works with libraries.

  • Mixing libraries with and without RTTI with GCC on Mac OS X?

    - by Steve the Plant
I've been banging my head on an issue and before I continue injuring myself some more, I'd like to confirm: Is it possible to have a GCC project that uses libraries that are compiled with and without RTTI? So, for example, I have project A (compiled without RTTI) that uses library B (compiled with RTTI) and library C (compiled without RTTI). In theory, is all that supposed to compile and link with no problems?

  • How do I create a nice-looking DMG for Mac OS X using command-line tools?

    - by Ludvig A Norin
I need to create a nice installer for a Mac application. I want it to be a disk image (DMG), with a predefined size, layout and background image. I need to do this programmatically in a script, to be integrated in an existing build system (more of a pack system really, since it only create installers. The builds are done separately). I already have the DMG creation done using "hdiutil", what I haven't found out yet is how to make an icon layout and specify a background bitmap.

  • Which encoding (code page) is used for file names in ZIP archive under Mac OS x 10.6

    - by bao
I have a zip library SharpZipLib which intended to work with ZIP archives using C#. It has parameter ICSharpCode.SharpZipLib.Zip.ZipConstants.DefaultCodePage which specifies encoding of file names in zip archive. I know that in Windows and in OSX different encodings are used to store file names. 1) Which encodings (code pages) are used in both? 2) How to determine programmatically which encoding is used? When I open in Win7 zip file packed under MacOS X, I see files with bad names (originally - cyrillic) and folder called __MACOSX, so I can say zip was prepared on Mac box. Any other way? What about other UNIX like systems?

  • How can I detect if an iPhone OS device has a proximity sensor?

    - by Batgar
The docs related to proximity sensing state that if the proximity sensing APIs are used on a device without a proximity sensor (i.e. iPod touch, iPad) they will just return as if the proximity sensor has fired. Aside from checking the [[UIDevice currentDevice].model] string and parsing for "iPhone", "iPod touch", or "iPad" is there a slicker way to determine if a proximity sensor is on a given device?

  • How can I remedy the always-on-top window problem?

    - by GateKiller
Sorry for the vague title but this one is hard to explain so bear with me please. I'm using Windows Vista at work for web development and sometimes when I Click or Alt-Tab to background window, the window will get focus but it will not be brought to the front. In order to bring the window to the front, I have to click on the applications border (when the resize cursor appears) and the window will then jump to the front. I've had this problem for about a year now and it happens at least a dozen times a day, but it doesn't do this all the time - seems random. I hope I have explained the issue fully (and you've understood it) and would appreciate any constructive answers or comments to solve this problem. Example: If I Alt-Tab from Google Chrome to Notepad and this problem randomly occurs, Google Chrome will remain in front of Notepad, however, I will be able to type text into Notepad while the window is behind Google Chrome. Clicking on Notepad's content area will not bring it to the front but clicking it's window border will. Video Exampe http://vimeo.com/19388998 In this video, I clicked from Google Chome to UltraEdit and chrome stayed in font, but as you can see, I can still type in UltraEdit. I'm starting to believe that this could be a bug in Google Chrome so I'll continue to watch if this between other applications.

  • Can Android OS be programmed to interface with a external device via the mini-USB port?

    - by user322865
Basic example, if I bought a chipset with a light socket and bulb soldered to the chipset; then put a USB cable with the mini-USB plug on the end to get plugged into the android phone. Can I write a Java application to turn on/off the light, get the status of the light(on/off) and maybe power a super-small led/bulb with power from the phone itself? Any insight at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

  • How do I install Flash for just one browser on Mac?

    - by ridogi
How can I install Flash for just Firefox and not Safari? I would like to have Flash not load at all, so the Click to Flash extension is not good enough. I've looked at the Safari plist and don't see any way to disable it. Alternatively, updating the Flash plugin that is built into Chrome would solve this. I used to use Chrome for my flash only browsing, but Google is not updating the embedded flash player. I found the way to force Chrome to ignore it's built in plugin in this Adobe KB article, but then Chrome just uses the plugin installed for the system.

  • What's the correct way to stop a background process on Mac OS X?

    - by mcsheffrey
I have an application with 2 components: a desktop application that users interact with, and a background process that can be enabled from the desktop application. Once the background process is enabled, it will run as a user launch agent independently of the desktop app. However, what I'm wondering is what to do when the user disables the background process. At this point I want to stop the background process but I'm not sure what the best approach is. The 3 options that I see are: Use the 'kill' command. Direct, but not reliable and just seems somewhat "wrong". Use an NSMachPort to send an exit request from the desktop app to the background process. This is the best approach I've thought of but I've run into an implementation problem (I'll be posting this in a separate query) and I'd like to be sure that the approach is right before going much further. Something else??? Thank you in advance for any help/insight that you can offer.

  • Exchange - inbound email only works from some servers

    - by Kryptonite
    I am having a problem where inbound mail from outside only works when sent from certain hosts. For example, when I send myself an email from my personal gmail account all is well, as the logs show: 2012-09-05 18:14:16 209.85.223.175 mail-ie0-f175.google.com SMTPSVC1 MAILSVR 192.168.1.79 0 EHLO 250 - - 2012-09-05 18:14:16 209.85.223.175 mail-ie0-f175.google.com SMTPSVC1 MAILSVR 192.168.1.79 0 STARTTLS 220 - - 2012-09-05 18:14:16 209.85.223.175 mail-ie0-f175.google.com SMTPSVC1 MAILSVR 192.168.1.79 0 STARTTLS 220 - - 2012-09-05 18:14:16 209.85.223.175 mail-ie0-f175.google.com SMTPSVC1 MAILSVR 192.168.1.79 0 EHLO 250 - - 2012-09-05 18:14:16 209.85.223.175 mail-ie0-f175.google.com SMTPSVC1 MAILSVR 192.168.1.79 0 MAIL 250 - - 2012-09-05 18:14:16 209.85.223.175 mail-ie0-f175.google.com SMTPSVC1 MAILSVR 192.168.1.79 0 RCPT 250 - - 2012-09-05 18:14:48 209.85.223.175 mail-ie0-f175.google.com SMTPSVC1 MAILSVR 192.168.1.79 0 QUIT 240 - - However, if I sent from my personal Yahoo account, I get this response: Sorry, we were unable to deliver your message to the following address. <[email protected]>: Remote host said: 530 5.7.0 Must issue a STARTTLS command first [MAIL_FROM] (NB: Nothing appeared in the smtp log for this message.) • Ruby implementation of conversion between Latitude/Longitude and OS National Grid Reference point?

    - by Harry Wood
For converting between Latitude/Longitude and UK's Ordnance Survey National Grid eastings and northings, this seems to be the most popular explanation and reference implementation in JavaScript: http://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/latlong-gridref.html The web is littered with other implementations in different languages. Making the conversion via PostGIS queries is another alternative. ...but did anyone implement this maths in ruby? OSGridToLatLong is the direction I'm looking for just at this moment, but I would have thought a library for converting in both directions must surely be available in a gem somewhere. I'm just not searching for the right thing.

  • Fastest browser to run over a forwarded X11 session

    - by warren
So far I have tried Firefox (latest and greatest) and Chrome (also latest and greatest), and while Chrome runs faster than Firefox over X11 from my CentOS server to my Windows 7 workstation, it's still pretty sluggish. What other GUI browsers are available for Linux that would [likely] run faster than Chrome? I've not tried Opera 11, but have had many issues with it under Windows and Mac OS X directly, so am waiting for a new version before going that route.

  • How do you export or release a Mac OS X program made in Xcode? Program does not load on other comput

    - by SolidSnake4444
I made a program in Xcode, being a simple calculator that takes a first number, and a second number, and then either adds, subtracts, multiplies, or divides depending on the radio button. I build and run and the program comes up and works fine. When I went to show my friends on their macs, when you double click on the program the program pops in the tray for like .05 seconds and then disappears and we never can actually run the program. It still works perfect however on my computer. What am I doing wrong? How can I take the program I made, and run it on different macs? I have the release set to 10.5 but the active SDK to 10.6. It runs in both 10.5 and 10.6 simulators. One friend has 10.6.3 like me and the other has 10.5.x(cant remember the last part). To get the app, I changed from debug to release and set active SDK to 10.5. Then in the release folder I found the app and sent that over iChat. I feel this will be a problem in the future if I ever make a legit application to distribute. Thank you!
