• Postgres 8.4 stackbuilder not run in Ubuntu12.04

  I have installed Postgres 8.4 in my Ubuntu 12.04 , but after installation it does not run stackbuilder.It also not running from menu bar . How can i run stackbuilder ? edit:I install this from postgres-8.4.run package.It uses a GUI interface.After installing postgres it should run stackbuilder but it not run stackbuilder GUI. This prob is related to ubuntu 12.04 because in 11.04, I have used this application.This question also asked on other forms but there is no solution. Thank you.

• Wifi too slow on 11.10/12.04

  As the title above mentions, i've some issues with wireless connection on both ubuntu 11.10 and 12.04. I've installed the latest drivers (Atheros AR928x), like "compact-wireless package" on several machines including ubuntu 11.10. The connection still too slow. My internet connection is 100 mb so, using WLAN connection, it should give me 70/80 mb of signal... instead of the 40/50 mb that i'm experience right now.. Do you have a solution to increase the signal?

• 10.10 irritating updater message

  As you all know 10.10 support has ended. thus whenever i start the update manager i get a dialog box saying Your Ubuntu release is not supported anymore You will not get any further security fixes or critical updates. Please upgrade to a later version of Ubuntu Linux. any way to remove this? that is really bugging me. ps. updating to a newer version is not an option now the screenshot

  I am running Ubuntu 12.04 Precise for omap on a beagleboard xM. I am trying to setup audio. No soundcards are listed in /proc/asound/cards. Alsamixer fails with cannot open mixer: No such file or directory Under /dev/snd/ I have only: seq timer Driver's name should be omap3beagle - twl4030. I am using alsa 1.0.24 that is installed by default with Ubuntu 12.04. I've googled a lot but I have not found anything yet. Thanks

• My mouse pointer disappears on "system surfaces" , like background picture, menus, background for all kind of system menus

  I have an annoying problem with Ubuntu 11.10, my mouse pointer disappears on the Ubuntu surface ( not in programs like firefox, libre office ..) The mouse pointer is there, but its size is only one pixel and in the white background of e.g. "system" it is not seen at all, although with "ctrl" I can see where it should be. I have not found any place where I can change the size or colors of the mouse pointer. Can anybody help me?

  Is there any package for Ubuntu which allows me to connect to remote computer without disturbing or terminating others who have already connected to that server or who are accessing the computer directly?. I remember I did this in Windows Server 2003 installing Terminal Server when I was doing my course which allowed multiple clients to connect to the server simultaneously with no disturbance to clients and even direct access to server.   I have to apply sudo chmod a+r /dev/dsp or /dev/audio but in my Ubuntu 12.10 i do not have such. I don't currently have access to a physical (cabled) connection that will allow my Ubuntu machine access. (Security reasons, no unidentified machines.) • Kickstart file is ignored by the installer

  I have fallowed this guide to create a kickstart file to install ubuntu automatically. However the problem is that when I boot the menu item label autoinstall menu label ^Auto install kernel /casper/vmlinuz append file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper initrd=/casper/initrd.lz file=/cdrom/ks.cfg -- it doesn't start the installer. I've tried using automatic-ubiquity as one of the parameters, but still it seems that kickstart file isn't used. Is there a way to make this work, or is there another way (preferably without using network, like FAI).

  I'm PXE-booting a Ubuntu 10.10 system, where I specify the kernel parameters as follows: append root=/dev/nfs initrd=ubuntu-boot/initrd.img-2.6.35-24-generic nfsroot=11.22.33.44:/data/nfsroot,fsc ip=dhcp rw I need to use the mount option 'fsc' in order to use FS-cache functionality (the cachefilesd package.) However, when I try this I get the following error upon boot: nfsmount: bad option 'fsc' Why doesn't nfsmount permit this option? (It works fine when you mount manually with "mount -o fsc" after booting up.)

• Slow internet connection with mobile broadband

  I'm using a Huawei 156g USB stick to connect to the internet. In windows it reacts lightning fast and loads pages faster than my Ubuntu 10.10 does, It's not the connection type (HSDPA, WCDMA or gsm) it takes more time to connect, download speed seems okay (But not full speed i think) what is the matter with it? do I need to install some kind of drivers for it? • Disable Facebook plug-in on default Firefox

  I have few python scripts which were written by someone else in Windows. These scripts use double backslash as path separator but when run in Ubuntu they don't work because of this. I can change all \ to / and scripts will work but there are lot of scripts and its a lot of effort to change each \ to / So my question is: Is it possible to add \ as path separator in Ubuntu or only in Bash so that I dont have to modify these scripts?

• repeated request for wireless password, no wireless connection

  whenever i try to connect to a wireless network, ubuntu (11.10) asks for the password. when i enter this it thinks for a couple of minutes, then asks for the password again. This happens repeatedly. (it isn't a problem with the wireless modem itself, as i can connect to wireless from the windows 7 opererating system i have running along side ubuntu. • Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!-grub rescue

  I have windows8 and ubuntu 13.10 installed on my laptop in dual-boot mode.While updating the disk management system my pc got hanged and on restarting it have grub rescue mode prompting on the screen.I tried ls (hd0,msdos_) all the commands but it shows 'unknown file system".i tried booting with ubuntu,boot-repair,superboot live cd but it shows "Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!" and hangs on the screen with two blinking lights.please suggest some help as soon as possible thanks in advance
