  I need to create a Set of objects. The concern is I do not want to base the hashing or the equality on the objects' hashCode and equals implementation. Instead, I want the hash code and equality to be based only on each object's reference identity (i.e.: the value of the reference pointer). I'm not sure how to do this in Java. The reasoning behind this is my objects do not reliably implement equals or hashCode, and in this case reference identity is good enough.

  Hi all! (Objective C) Just using simple AudioServicesPlaySystemSoundID and its counterparts, but I can't find in the documentation if there is already a way to find the length of an audio file. I know there is AudioServicesGetPropertyInfo, but that seems to return a byte-buffer - do audio files embed their length in themselves and I can just extract it with this? • From a Java programming perspective, what difference does multicast make to a networking program?

  My manager has asked me to assess what changes would be required to add multicast support to a socket-based TCP/IP networking program that is part of a trading system. As far as I can tell, from the perspective of a Java program, it doesn't seem to matter too much whether the program is unicast or multicast. Doesn't the Java networking API make all of this transparent? By this I mean, wouldn't the change be a simple one of simply adding additional destinations for the outgoing connections?

I'm using a JavaScript-based file uploader which has to save the images within the web root, but I'm wondering if it would be better to move the images above the web root for better security?   I have a handful of queries I need to write in SQL Server 2005. Each Query will be calculating 4 unit cost values based on a handful of (up to 11) fields. Any time I want 1 of these 4 unit cost values, I'll want all 4. Which is quicker? Computing in the SQL Query ((a+b+c+d+e+f+g+h+i)/(j+k)), calling ComputeScalarUnitCost(datapoint.ID) 4 times, or joining to ComputeUnitCostTable(datapoint.ID) one time?
