• How to insert bulk data into mysql table from asp.net at once.

  Hi, I have a requirement that I need to read an excel sheet using asp.net/C# and insert all the records into mysql table.The excel sheet consists of around 2000 rows and 50 columns. Currently,upon reading the excel records ,I am inserting the records one by one using a prepare statement into mysql table.But its taking around 70 secs to do so because of the huge data. I've also thought of creating a new datarow, assigning values to each cell,adding the resulting datarow to datatable and finally calling dataadapter.update(...).But it seems to be complex because I got around 50 columns and hence I'll have to assign 50 values to the datarow. Could someone please suggest if there is an alternate to improve the performance of the insertion? Thanks

• How can I pipe a large amount of data as a runtime argument?

  Running an executable JAR on a linux platform here. The program it self works on a somewhat large amount of data, basically a list of URLs... could be up to 2k. Currently I get this from a simple DB call. But I was thinking that instead of creating a new mode and writing SQL to get a new result set and having to redploy everytime, I could just make the program more robust by passing in the result set (the list of URLs) that need to be worked on... so, within a linux environment, is there a pain-free/simple way to get the result set and pass it in dynamically? I know file i/o is one, but it doesn't seem to be effecient because each file has to be named, as well more logic to handle grabbing the correct file, creating a file with a unique name, etc.

• Syntax error converting the nvarchar value to a column of data type int.

  I have 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 stored as nvarchar inside Level in my db. I then have a dropdownlist with values 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. When a user makes a selection (i.e 1) (Level.SelectedValue.ToString). This builds an sql query via a param like this: "Select things From MBA_EOI Where level = 1" When I run the select I get the following error: Syntax error converting the nvarchar value '1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9' to a column of data type int. I was under the impression that I was dealing with an Nvarchar field and the selected value as string, where does the int conversion come in? p.s I have also tried Level.SelectedItem.ToString

  I have a beagleboard with TMS320C64x+ DSP. I'm working on an image processing beagleboard application. Here's how it's going to work: The ARM reads an image from a file and put the image in a 2D array. The arm sends the matrix to the DSP. The DSP receives the matrix. The DSP performs the image processing algorithm on the received matrix (the algorithm code uses about 5MB of dynamically allocated memory). The DSP sends the processed image (matrix) to the ARM. The arm received the matrix. The arm saved the processed image to a file. I'v already written the code for steps 1,3,5. What is the easiest way to do steps 3+4 (sending the data)? Code examples are welcome.

  I have a variable called "account_type" passed from a rails form and need to access the value in the corresponding model. I can check if :account_type exists as a symbol, but where does the stored data come into play? Is there something I need to do in the controller? This code gives an undefined method 'account_type' error. validates_format_of :name, :with => /^[a-z0-9_]+$/i, :on => :create if account_type == 2 If I use a symbol then it doesn't give an error, but a symbol will never equal 2 validates_format_of :name, :with => /^[a-z0-9_]+$/i, :on => :create if :account_type == 2 It's confusing that you can validate the format of a symbol (like :name above) when :name only seems to be a reference with nothing stored in it. • How to transfer binary data through multiple http server?

  Well, the question is not intended to be that big. Let me explain the scenario: I have two http servers. server A is accessible to end user by web browser, while server B is internal server which can only be accessed by server A. If server B generate some big jpeg image in local disk, obviously we can't just delivery those path to image to server A and eventually to end user. Then, how to let end user see those image without firstly storing those image data in server A temporarily? I run PHP on server A and perl on server B, but this should not matter. I need a general pattern for implementing this.

• Is is better to store serialized data or raw html in mysql?

  I de-normalized my database, since the application was crawling otherwise, and Im storing a list of categories for each item in the DB as a raw html version, and simply echoing it out in my design. Each category is actually a link, which is include a tag. Naturally, this is abit of a pain, especially if I want to change the look of how the category links are displayed, since I gotta update all the old cached entries. What if I were to store this data as a serialized array instead, and simply unserialize it, and then apply formatting to it in php. Would there be a significant performance decrease over simply echoing out the raw html?

  Is it possible for a web page using Javascript to get data from another website? In my case I want to get it for calculations and graphing a chart. But I'm not sure if this is possible or not due to security concerns. If it is considered a no no but there is a work around I would appreciate being told the work around. I don't want to have to gather this information on the server side if possible. Any and all help is appreciated.

• MySQL INSERT data does not get stored in proper db, only temporary?

  I'm having trouble with MySQL or Python and can't seem to isolate the problem. INSERTs only seem to last the run of the script and are not stored in the database. • Retreiving data from MySQL with html/javaScript on one domain and the PHP file on the other

  I need to retrieve data from a MySQL database, and have it work one way for all types of servers. For example it should work on a server that runs no server side language, it should also work on LAMP, and IIS. I was thinking about using ajax and xmlhttprequest, but learned of the cross domain limitation. I also tried to just include the PHP in a tag, but it comes back with a syntax error in the HTML code created by the PHP file, even though it looks correct. Does anyone know how to fix either of these issues, or have a different way to go about it?

  i am creating a mysql function which takes in a varchar and change it to a int based on a mapping table. select name, convert_to_code(country) from users where sex = 'male' here, the convert_to_code() function takes in a country name (e.g. Japan, Finland..) and change it to country code which is an integer (e.g. 1001, 2310..) based on a mapping table called country_maping like below: country_name (varchar) | country_code (int) Japan | 1001 Finland | 2310 Canada | 8756 currently, the stored function need to select country_code from country_mapping where country_name = country_name and return the query result. is that possible to create a hash data struct in SP to optimize the process so that it will not need to perform the query for each row matches the where clause. thanks in advance!

• Can default Symfony form-save actions be used to post data via AJAX?

  I was playing around with Symfony, jQuery, jqGrid & AJAX. For each new post submission, I am doing the foll: adding a routing entry in routing.yml defining a new action in the Actions file for the module. THis reads params, assigns values & saves the object As in the case of jqGrid, the 'Add Row' form is not a Symfony form. Is there a way to fool Symfony and post data to the executeCreate action to store a new entry. If not, does Symfony provide a way to quickly generate web services for AJAX requests for each of the modules? Is this a sensible feature? What I am going to have to do other-wise, is to create routing create a new Action get all parameters instantiate object assign values & save Any help in doing this faster will be appreciated. • Can you use data binding with the Content property of a WPF Frame?

  I can use data binding to set the initial Content of a WPF Frame, but subsequent changes to the the bound property (implemented using INotifyPropertyChange) do not seem to change the content. Also, does anyone know if binding directly to the Content property in this way will cause the bound item to appear in the Frame or NavigationWindow's journal? Some context: I realize that I should probably be using the NavigationService to interact with the Frame, but I'm attempting to follow the MVVM pattern. It seems like it would be much simpler to databind to the Content property...

  I need to visualize some scientific calculations. I generally prefer reusing code if there is already a good available instead of inventing wheels each time, that's why I am asking. I need a C# code to draw charts (just outputting a bitmap is ok) of 2d (y=f(x)) and 3d (z=f(x,y)) digital data sets (where any axis can be float, int or datetime), sometimes combined. If I go here and click 3D in the navigation bar on the left, there I can see what I need. But the cheapest version costs $759 there, looks scary for a hobby project of an east-european student :-(

• Expand in linq not loading inner data collections from service.

  I am seeing odd behavior with service queries! I am using MVVM pattern for a silverlight 3 app on 3.5 framework and Dataservices 1.5. The following code eager loads correctly the parent object and the child heirarchy perfectly IF and ONLY IF I am preloading the data. But I would like to fetch a different set of the parent object (and its child heirarchy) on different button clicks. What I am seeing is that on button click, only the parent object is retrieved, and the child heirarchy contains nothing. Any suggestions? Any ideas how to tackle this? Thanks all. • Why people don't use LabView for purposes other than data acquisition and virtualization?

  This is marked as a subjective question, I hope I won't get too many down votes though. LV seems to offer a nice graphic alternative to traditional text based programming. As I understand, it's not a just-virtualization/data acquisition programming language. Nonetheless, it seems to have that paradigm pegged to its creator's name. My question comes up because it doesn't seem to be widely used for multi-purpose applications. I'm not a LV-expert of any kind, I'm more like a learner. I'm still getting used to LV.

OK, but how to retrieve that user name in the controller ? Is it possible without registering System.Security.Principal namespace in the controller ? In the other words - the controller must know whose user wants to do some action (e.g. change account data). I could store it's name in the Html.Hidden control on each View but I don't want to have a mess in my Views

• Updating Silverlight with data. JSON or WCF?

  We will be using custom Silverlight 4.0 controls on our ASP.NET MVC web page to display data from our database and was wondering what the most efficient method was? We will be having returned values of up to 100k records (of 2 properties per record). We have a test that uses the HTML Bridge from Javascript to Silverlight. First we perform a post request to a controller action in the MVC web app and return JSON. This JSON is then passed to the Silverlight where it is parsed and the UI updated. This seems to be rather slow, with the stored procedure (the select) taking about 3 seconds and the entire update in the browser about 10-15sec. Having a brief look on the net, it seems that WCF is another option, but not having used it, I wasn't sure of it's capability or suitability. Does anyone have any experiences or recommendations?

There are a couple of options already defined (see: www.iana.org/assignments/tcp-parameters/) but I want to come up with my very own. (For experimenting/research.)
