  • Generate 3 random number that sum to 1 in R

    I am hoping to create 3 (non-negative) quasi-random numbers that sum to one, and repeat over and over. Basically I am trying to partition something into three random parts over many trials. While I am aware of a= runif(3,0,1) I was thinking that I could use 1-a as the max in the next run if, but it seems messy. But these of course don't sum to one. Any thoughts, oh wise stackoverflow-ers?

    Hello everyone, I see there's a lot of talk here about how to go about sanitizing data. Could it be as simple as adding this rewrite rule to .htaccess? RewriteRule ^([\w\-]+)$ index.php?page=$1 To my understanding this will allow only letters, numbers, _ and - in $1, am I right? If you add to this usage of prepared statements for SQL queries, it should be pretty proof, is that right? Somehow feels like too easy to be true, am I missing something, any ways to firm it up?

  • HashMap.containsValue - What's the point?

    I've got a HashMap and I need to fetch an item by its integer value. I notice there's a containsValue() function, but it would appear I still have to iterate through the map to find the correct index anyway. My question is; why use containsValue() if I'm required to traverse it afterwards? Also, am I missing the point completely? ;-)

    I have a form on my website. When this form is filled out, it is then validated by a javascript validation function. At the bottom of this function I have this piece of code: window.location="../index.html"; This wont work on Chrome, but does work in Firefox. My Q is, how can I make this simple redirect work on all (most) browsers? Thanks

  • Will releasing an iPhone app makes it available for iPad by default?

    In my XCode's Targets summary screen, the "Devices" drop down is set to "iPhone" (other possible values are iPad and Universal) because I haven't fine tuned the app's UI for iPad. However, will people be able to download and run my app from the iPad in non-fullscreen? (e.g., with black border surrounding most of the screen) I want people to be able to search for it in app store, install it, and run it even though it is not full screen. Thanks a lot

  • codeigniter not being able to get the full param from url?

    Im having a weird issue that i cant seem to fix. It's dealing with viewing a company and adding a location to that company. when viewing a company, my url would look like this: domain.com/company/view/415 So clearly 415 is the ID of company, the company shows up correctly on my company view page. Now comes the weird part. when clicking on an "Add Location" link, which would take me to : domain.com/location/add/415 so once again this should be saying Location / Add / 415 (company ID 415) on this page, if i do it will echo 4 (instead of 415...the company id) if the company id is 754, the php echo $data['id'] would echo 7 (instead of 754). So its stripping the last 2 numbers off the Company ID.     Question for indie Mac developers out there: How do I implement a 30-day time trial in a non-evil fashion? Putting a counter in the prefs is not an option, since wiping prefs once a month is not a problem for an average user. Putting the counter in a hidden file somewhere sounds a bit dodgy - as a user I hate when apps sprinkle my hard drive with random files. Any ideas?

What I'm looking for is a way to prevent a process from starting that isn't on the white-list. If that's possible.     I'm trying to replace elements of a data.frame containing "#N/A" with "NULL", and I'm running into problems: foo <- data.frame("day"= c(1, 3, 5, 7), "od" = c(0.1, "#N/A", 0.4, 0.8)) indices_of_NAs <- which(foo == "#N/A") replace(foo, indices_of_NAs, "NULL") Error in [<-.data.frame(*tmp*, list, value = "NULL") : new columns would leave holes after existing columns I think that the problem is that my index is treating the data.frame as a vector, but that the replace function is treating it differently somehow, but I'm not sure what the issue is?
