• How do I add application specific code to Rails' plugin?

  Hi, I am using facebooker in one of my applications. I want to add some application specific methods to various methods in it? e.g. In facebooker/lib/facebooker/models/user.rb module Facebooker class User # I want to add my methods here. for e.g my_method end end I can not directly put my_method in the plugin itself since I also want to access my models from there. Not defining the methods in plugin code itself will also be helpful when I upgrade.

• [Gdata] GetAuthSubToken returns None

  Hey guys, I am a little lost on how to get the auth token. Here is the code I am using on the return from authorizing my app: client = gdata.service.GDataService() gdata.alt.appengine.run_on_appengine(client) sessionToken = gdata.auth.extract_auth_sub_token_from_url(self.request.uri) client.UpgradeToSessionToken(sessionToken) logging.info(client.GetAuthSubToken()) what gets logged is "None" so that does seem right :-( if I use this: temp = client.upgrade_to_session_token(sessionToken) logging.info(dump(temp)) I get this: {'scopes': ['http://www.google.com/calendar/feeds/'], 'auth_header': 'AuthSub token=CNKe7drpFRDzp8uVARjD-s-wAg'} so I can see that I am getting a AuthSub Token and I guess I could just parse that and grab the token but that doesn't seem like the way things should work. • Centralized Credentials Service For Various Apps

  We are researching the possibility to build a centralized credentials storage for internal applications. These apps (vb6, vb.net, web apps in asp.net, etc) are using various instances of SQL servers and iSeries. We want to implement a central credentials facility that would act as a security broker. Basically it should work like this: Client app supplies AppID (I am Sales Application) and EnvironmentID (I am running in QA environment) and in return will get either a connection object (preferred) or encrypted connection string that will allow said application to connect to resources it needs. There will be cases when application needs to connect to two (or more) database resources (i.e. to SQL and iSeries). What are looking at DP API at the moment, but I am not convinced that DP API is the solution as it tied in with machine key. In our case using machine key isn't feasible, so I want to know if there are other approaches available.

  Does anyone know how to obtain the browser culture from firefox and google chrome using javascript? Note: This is an asp.net 3.5 web application. The requirement is to try and set the applications display culture based on the browser culture. I have found very few bits and pieces of information for the other browsers but they do not seem to work. • Universal iPhone/iPad Windows-based app with Core Data crashes on iPhone SDK 4 beta 3

  Hi all. I installed iPhone OS 4.0 Beta 3. When I create a new Windows-based universal app with Core Data (File New Project Windows-based Application --- select Universal in drop down and check the "Use Core Data for storage" check box) the app launches fine into the iPhone simulator but crashes in the iPad simulator. The console message returned is: dyld: Symbol not found: _OBJC_CLASS_$_NSURL Referenced from: /Users/tarfa/Library/Application Support/iPhone Simulator/3.2/Applications/5BB644DC-9370-4894-8884-BAEBA64D9ED0/Universal.app/Universal Expected in: /Developer/Platforms/iPhoneSimulator.platform/Developer/SDKs/iPhoneSimulator3.2.sdk/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreFoundation.framework/CoreFoundation I'm stumped. • Does the android market use your merchant API callback URL during the Google checkout process for pa

  If I have a paid app on Android Market, will my merchant API callback URL get a hit when the customer goes to check out? I am wondering how merchants/vendors/developers secure their applications for android market. I have used google checkout before to implement a custom integration, so I understand how that all works. What I do not see anywhere that I have looked is what, if any, integration does the merchant/developer have with the Android Market checkout process? I understand that the market uses google checkout, but in that case the market hosts the checkout process and not the merchant, so it's not clear whether they give your URL a call. So where is the hook? Am I right in assuming it is the merchant API callback URL?

• Run Windows XP on a usb drive virtually on Windows XP?

  I am sick of not being able to run and install certain applications on my work computer due to admin restrictions (eg: Adobe AIR) . I have heard of smaller versions of Windows running on a usb thumb drive and have looked into it but can't find anything on running windows virtually from a usb drive. I would like to be able to login to this particular computer, insert my usb drive and then open up another version of windows installed on the thumb drive while still being able to use the windows I logged in on (literally be able to alt+tab between the main desktop and the virtual desktop from the usb drive). Is this even possible? For further clarification: The version of windows has to be Windows XP and there is no other option available for what I want to do. Looking forward to a response.

When I created a WPF application, i am seeing two guids in here. {60dc8134-eba5-43b8-bcc9-bb4bc16c2548};{FAE04EC0-301F-11D3-BF4B-00C04F79EFBC} Does these represent WPF and Windows type of applications? If I create my own project type (.myproj) that has .xaml and .cs files, what should I fill in this ProjectTypeGuids tags? Should I also need to fill the ProjectType tag?   I have a legacy Java (not my native language) app that I'm trying to build in Eclipse Galileo. As it's not my own, I can't speak to the quality of the design, but I am coming across a number of instances where I'll have something like this: In a project called, say, "lib_a", I'll have a file containing this: import com.acme.lib_b.onething; Project "lib_b" on the other hand, will contain: import com.acme.lib_a.anotherthing; Of course, the problem is that one project can't be built because the errors prevent me from creating a .jar file that can be added as an external archive to the other project, and vice versa. It seems to me that this must be a fairly common occurence in building Java applications. Rewriting it from scratch is not an option here, so I'd like to know "what other folks do."

  I read some question/answers here about how to do it using svnadmin/dump etc. Actually I did not understand properly what I'm supposed to do. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/939963/how-to-migrate-svn-to-another-repository I think I have to do some sort of dump from the Google code repository using svnadmin, but where do I get this svnadmin? I use TortoiseSVN 1.6.3 on WXP and there is no svnadmin.exe command in all my C folder, where am I supposed to download these applications? Thanks!

  Scenario I have a method that returns a list of processes using WMI. If I have 3 processes running (all of which are C# applications) - and they all have THE SAME PROCESS NAME but different command line arguments, how can I differentiate between them If I want to start them or terminate them!? Thoughts As far as I can see, I physically cannot differentiate between them, at least not without having to use the Handle, but that doesn't tell me which one of them got terminated because the others will still sit there with the same name........ ....really stumped, help greatly appreciated!

  I need to find a fairly efficient way to detect syllables in a word. E.g., invisible - in-vi-sib-le There are some syllabification rules that could be used: V CV VC CVC CCV CCCV CVCC *where V is a vowel and C is a consonant. e.g., pronunciation (5 Pro-nun-ci-a-tion; CV-CVC-CV-V-CVC) I've tried few methods, among which were using regex (which helps only if you want to count syllables) or hard coded rule definition (a brute force approach which proves to be very inefficient) and finally using a finite state automata (which did not result with anything useful). The purpose of my application is to create a dictionary of all syllables in a given language. This dictionary will later be used for spell checking applications (using Bayesian classifiers) and text to speech synthesis. I would appreciate if one could give me tips on an alternate way to solve this problem besides my previous approaches. I work in Java, but any tip in C/C++, C#, Python, Perl... would work for me.

  I am already quite familiar with relational databases and have used SQLite (and other databases) in the past. However, Core Data has a certain allure, so I am considering spending some time to learn it for use in my next application. Is there much benefit to using Core Data over SQLite, or vice versa? What are the pros/cons of each? I find it hard to justify the cost of learning Core Data when Apple doesn't use it for many of its flagship applications like Mail.app or iPhoto.app - instead opting for SQLite databases. SQLite is also used extensively on the iPhone. Can those familiar with using both comment on their experience? Perhaps, as with most things, the question is deeper than just using one over the other?

  In Android's settings, in the "Manage Applications" activity when clicking on an app, the data is broken down into Application, Data, and cache. There is also a button to clear the cache. My app caches audio files and I would like the user to be able to clear the cache using this button. How do I store them so they get lumped in with the cache and the user can clear them? I've tried storing files using both of the following techniques: newFile = File.createTempFile("mcb", ".mp3", context.getCacheDir()); newFile = new File(context.getCacheDir(), "mcb.mp3"); newFile.createNewFile(); In both cases, these files are listed as Data and not Cache.

• How to get the quickfix timestamp?

  I've seen in quickfix doxygen documentation that it generates an utc timestamp as soon as it has received a FIX message from a socket file. Have a look in ThreadedSocketConnection::processStream(), it calls then m_pSession->next( msg, UtcTimeStamp() ); I would like to get that timestamp, because I need it to screen network and QuickFix lib latencies. I didn't find a way to get it from FixApplication::fromApp() callback or 'Log::onIncoming()' callback. As I am newbie with quickfix I would like to know if I missed something in the Quickfix documentation. Did anybody ever done that before? Of course there is other solutions, but for homogeneity with others market acces applications I maintain, I would prefer to avoid them. For instance, I would prefer not to modify QuickFix code source. And I would like to avoid re-write the application logic that quickfix provide me, quickfix helpping me only for message decoding.

  In the dependencies section of a cabal file: Build-Depends: base >= 3 && < 5, transformers >= 0.2.0 Should I be doing something like Build-Depends: base >= 3 && < 5, transformers >= 0.2.0 && < 0.3.0 (putting upper limits on versions of packages I depend on) or not? I'll use a real example: my "List" package on Hackage (List monad transformer and class) If I don't put the limit - my package could break by a change in "transformers" If I do put the limit - a user that uses "transformers" but is using a newer version of it will not be able to use lift and liftIO with ListT because it's only an instance of these classes of transformers-0.2.x I guess that applications should always put upper limits so that they never break, so this question is only about libraries: Shall I use the upper version limit on dependencies or not?

  My linux (fedora red hat 7) virtual dedicated server has been experiencing OOM multiple times a day for the past several days. I thought the issue was with spamd/spamassassin but after disabling this the errors remains. The highest usage displayed on ps faux --cumulative: USER PID %CPU %MEM VSZ RSS TTY STAT START TIME COMMAND root 28412 8.7 0.5 309572 109308 ? It is frustrating as I barely have anything running on the server and use the tiniest fraction of bandwidth.   As a long time user of Delphi 7, I've rolled my own mouse wheel handling in a few controls but lately I've noticed that some recent applications only need the mouse cursor to be placed over a control (e.g a list box or tree view) for the mouse wheel activity to cause that control to scroll. This feels nice (as opposed to having to click focus a control before it responds to the wheel. Now I've moved to Delphi 2010 I'm wondering what is the 'correct' behavior? And what can I use in Delphi that avoids me having to bodge this with my own solutions now? Thanks.

• Web Application within a Web Site in Visual Studio?

  Visual Studio allows you to make "Web Sites" and "Web Applications", but, inside a project, can you have one within the other? Say I have my website "www.mysite.com" and I have an application called "BudgetCalculator". One the production server, this is supposed to be located at: www.mysite.com/BudgetCalculator And the BudgetCalculator app contains links back to other parts of the website, like "/page1" and "/page2". However in Visual Studio, when they're listed as two different projects, they're on the same level. When I fire up the debugger for the BudgetCalculator app, those links aren't going to point back to the main website, like they should. Is there a way around this?
