  • VB.NET, make a function with return type generic ?

    - by Quandary
    Currently I have written a function to deserialize XML as seen below. How do I change it so I don't have to replace the type every time I want to serialize another object type ? The current object type is cToolConfig. How do I make this function generic ? Public Shared Function DeserializeFromXML(ByRef strFileNameAndPath As String) As XMLhandler.XMLserialization.cToolConfig Dim deserializer As New System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer(GetType(cToolConfig)) Dim srEncodingReader As IO.StreamReader = New IO.StreamReader(strFileNameAndPath, System.Text.Encoding.UTF8) Dim ThisFacility As cToolConfig ThisFacility = DirectCast(deserializer.Deserialize(srEncodingReader), cToolConfig) srEncodingReader.Close() srEncodingReader.Dispose() Return ThisFacility End Function Public Shared Function DeserializeFromXML1(ByRef strFileNameAndPath As String) As System.Collections.Generic.List(Of XMLhandler.XMLserialization.cToolConfig) Dim deserializer As New System.Xml.Serialization.XmlSerializer(GetType(System.Collections.Generic.List(Of cToolConfig))) Dim srEncodingReader As IO.StreamReader = New IO.StreamReader(strFileNameAndPath, System.Text.Encoding.UTF8) Dim FacilityList As System.Collections.Generic.List(Of cToolConfig) FacilityList = DirectCast(deserializer.Deserialize(srEncodingReader), System.Collections.Generic.List(Of cToolConfig)) srEncodingReader.Close() srEncodingReader.Dispose() Return FacilityList End Function

  • Abstract Forms using WinForms

    - by pm_2
    I’m trying to achieve a similar affect in a WinForms application as a master form does with ASP.NET. My initial thoughts on this were to create a base form and declare it as abstract, but the compiler doesn’t seem to let me do this. public abstract partial class Master : Form { public Master() { InitializeComponent(); } } So I have two questions: Why will the compiler not let me do this? Am I using the wrong syntax or is this a genuine restriction. Can anyone suggest a workaround or better way to do this? EDIT: InitializeComponent code: private void InitializeComponent() { this.components = new System.ComponentModel.Container(); this.mainMenu1 = new System.Windows.Forms.MainMenu(); this.Menu = this.mainMenu1; this.AutoScaleMode = System.Windows.Forms.AutoScaleMode.Dpi; this.Text = "Master"; this.AutoScroll = true; }

  • How can you extend the Bitmap class

    - by vrish88
    Hello, I am trying to extend the Bitmap class so that I can apply my own effects to an image. When I use this code: namespace ImageEditor { public class Effects : System.Drawing.Bitmap { public void toBlackAndWhite() { System.Drawing.Bitmap image = (Bitmap)this; AForge.Imaging.Filters.Grayscale filter = new AForge.Imaging.Filters.Grayscale(); this = filter.Apply(this); } } } I get the following error: 'ImageEditor.Effects': cannot derive from sealed type 'System.Drawing.Bitmap' So is there a way to get around this or is it simply not possible to extend the class? Thanks.

  • Asp.Net MVC2 Model Binding Problem.

Using the following, <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<X.Models.ProductModel>" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <h2>Product</h2> <% using (Html.BeginForm() {%> <%: Html.ValidationSummary(true) %> <div class="editor-label"> Product Name </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.Name) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.Name) %> </div> <br /> <div class="editor-label"> Short Description </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextAreaFor(model => model.ShortDesc) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.ShortDesc) %> </div> <br /> <div class="editor-label"> Long Description </div> <div class="editor-field"> <%: Html.TextAreaFor(model => model.LongDesc) %> <%: Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.LongDesc) %> </div> <p> <input type="submit" value="Create" /> </p> <% } %> </asp:Content> and the following controller using System.Web.Mvc; using X.Lib.Services; using X.Models; namespace X.Admin.Controllers { public class ProductController : Controller { [HttpGet] public ActionResult ProductData() { return View(); } [HttpPost] public ActionResult ProductData(ProductModel NewProduct) { //Validate and save if(ModelState.IsValid) { //Save And do stuff. var ProductServ = new ProductService(); ProductServ.AddProduct(NewProduct); } return View(); } } }

  • Why do I get Code Analysis CA1062 on an out parameter in this code?

    - by brickner
    I have a very simple code (simplified from the original code - so I know it's not a very clever code) that when I compile in Visual Studio 2010 with Code Analysis gives me warning CA1062: Validate arguments of public methods. public class Foo { protected static void Bar(out int[] x) { x = new int[1]; for (int i = 0; i != 1; ++i) x[i] = 1; } } The warning I get: CA1062 : Microsoft.Design : In externally visible method 'Foo.Bar(out int[])', validate local variable '(*x)', which was reassigned from parameter 'x', before using it. I don't understand why do I get this warning and how can I resolve it without suppressing it? Can new return null? Is this a Visual Studio 2010 bug?

  • Vaadin: Downloaded file has whole path as file name

    - by javydreamercsw
    I have a download action implemented on my Vaadin application but for some reason the downloaded file has the original file's full path as the file name. Any idea? You can see the code on this post. Edit: Here's the important part of the code: package com.bluecubs.xinco.core.server.vaadin; import com.bluecubs.xinco.core.server.XincoConfigSingletonServer; import com.vaadin.Application; import com.vaadin.terminal.DownloadStream; import com.vaadin.terminal.FileResource; import java.io.*; import java.net.URLEncoder; import java.util.UUID; import java.util.logging.Level; import java.util.logging.Logger; import java.util.zip.CRC32; import java.util.zip.CheckedInputStream; /** * * @author Javier A. • CascadeType problem in One to Many Relation

    - by Milad.KH
    Hi I have two classes which have a Unidirectional One to Many relation with each other. public class Offer{ ... @OneToMany(cascade=CascadeType.ALL) @JoinTable(name = "Offer_Fields", joinColumns = @JoinColumn(name = "OFFER_ID"), inverseJoinColumns = @JoinColumn(name = "FIELDMAPPER_ID")) private Set<FieldMapper> fields = new HashSet<FieldMapper>(); } public class FieldMapper{ ... } I want to store an Offer with a set of FieldMapper to database. When I Use CascadeType.ALL in my OneToMany, I got this error: org.hibernate.HibernateException: Illegal attempt to associate a collection with two open sessions and when I change CascadeType to something else I got this error: org.hibernate.TransientObjectException: object references an unsaved transient instance - save the transient instance before flushing: com.RCSTT.library.FieldMapper Thanks for your help.

  • Does Delphi really handle dynamic classes better than static?

    - by John
    Hello, I was told more than once that Delphi handles dynamic classes better than static.Thereby using the following: type Tsomeclass=class(TObject) private procedure proc1; public someint:integer; procedure proc2; end; var someclass:TSomeclass; implementation ... initialization someclass:=TSomeclass.Create; finalization someclass.Free; rather than type Tsomeclass=class private class procedure proc1; public var someint:integer; class procedure proc2; end; 90% of the classes in the project I'm working on have and need only one instance.Do I really have to use the first way for using those classes? Is it better optimized,handled by Delphi? Sorry,I have no arguments to backup this hypothesis,but I want an expert's opinion. Thanks in advance!

I've already included log4j-boot.jar in the CLASSPATH, but didn't resolved my problem.

  • Patterns to implement this grammar into C# code

    - by MexicanHacker
    Hey guys, I'm creating this little BNF grammar and I wanted to <template>::= <types><editors> <types>::= <type>+ <type>::= <property>+ <property>::= <name><type> <editors>::= <editor>+ <editor>::= <name><type>(<textfield>|<form>|<list>|<pulldown>)+ <textfield>::= <label><property>[<editable>] <form>::= <label><property><editor> <list>::= <label><property><item-editor> <pulldown>::= <label><property><option>+ <option>::= <value> One possible solution we have in mind is to create POCO's that have annotations of the XMLSerialization namespace, like this, for example: [XMLRoot("template")] public class Template{ [XMLElement("types")] public Types types{ } } However I want to explore more solutions, what do you guys think?

  • Malformed Farsi characters on AWT

    - by jlover2010
    Hi As i started programming by jdk6, i had no problem in text components neither in awt nor in swing. But for labels or titles of awt components, yes : I couldn't have Farsi characters displayable on AWTs just as simple as Swing by typing them into the source code. lets check this SSCCE : import javax.swing.*; import java.awt.*; import java.io.*; import java.util.Properties; public class EmptyFarsiCharsOnAWT extends JFrame{ public EmptyFarsiCharsOnAWT() { super("????"); setDefaultCloseOperation(3); setVisible(rootPaneCheckingEnabled); } public static void main(String[] args) throws AWTException, IOException { JFrame jFrame = new EmptyFarsiCharsOnAWT(); MenuItem show ; // approach 1 = HardCoding : /* show = new MenuItem("\u0646\u0645\u0627\u06cc\u0634"); * */ // approach 2 = using simple utf-8 saved text file : /* BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("farsiLabels.txt")); String showLabel = in.readLine(); in.close(); show = new MenuItem(showLabel); * */ // approach 3 = using properties file : FileReader in = new FileReader("farsiLabels.properties"); Properties farsiLabels = new Properties(); farsiLabels.load(in); show = new MenuItem(farsiLabels.getProperty("tray.show")); PopupMenu popUp = new PopupMenu(); popUp.add(show); // creating Tray object Image iconIamge = Toolkit.getDefaultToolkit().getImage("greenIcon.png"); TrayIcon trayIcon = new TrayIcon(iconIamge, null, popUp); SystemTray tray = SystemTray.getSystemTray(); tray.add(trayIcon); jFrame.setIconImage(iconIamge); } } Yes, i know each of three approaches in source code does right when you may test it from IDE , but if you make a JAR contains just this class, by means of NetBeans project clean&build ,you won't see the expected characters and will just get EMPTY/BLANK SQUARES ! Unfortunately, opposed to other situations i encountered before, here there is no way to avoid using awt and make use of Swing in this case. And this was just an SSCCE i made to show the problem and my recent (also first) application suffers from this subject. Note: it seems i can not attach anything, so the contents od the text file would be this: ????? and the contents of properties file: #Sun May 02 09:45:10 IRDT 2010 tray.show=????? but i don't think by giving you the unicode-scape sequence, these would be necessary any way... And i think should have to let you know I posted this question a while ago in SDN and "the Java Ranch" forums and other native forums and still I'm watching... By the way i am using latest version of Netbeans IDE... I will be so grateful if anybody has a solution to this damn AWT components never rendered any Farsi character for me... Thanks in advance

  • newbie: Rails on remote Apache server not displaying index.html.erb

    - by paracaudex
    I played around with Rails on my laptop (running Linux + Apache + MySQL) and had no trouble getting the Getting Started with Rails tutorial to work locally. Now I'm trying the same thing at work on a remote Mac OS X + Apache server, and things aren't quite so rosy. I typed rails blog -d mysql to create a directory called blog in /Library/WebServer/Documents/mydirectory. The trouble is, if I go to server.com/mydirectory/public, I get the public/index.html in my browser. But, I don't get this file if I go to server.com/mydirectory/. Instead, I get a 403 error. Also, when I: script/generate controller home index to create: app/views/home/index.html.erb I am unable to view this file, whether I go to server.com/mydirectory/home/index, or if I add a new line (map.root :controller => "home") to config/routes.rb and go to server.com/mydirectory. Am I missing something really obvious about Apache and Rails?

  • Java anonymous class efficiency implications

    - by Po
    Is there any difference in efficiency (e.g. execution time, code size, etc.) between these two ways of doing things? Below are contrived examples that create objects and do nothing, but my actual scenarios may be creating new Threads, Listeners, etc. Assume the following pieces of code happen in a loop so that it might make a difference. Using anonymous objects: void doSomething() { for (/* Assume some loop */) { final Object obj1, obj2; // some free variables IWorker anonymousWorker = new IWorker() { doWork() { // do things that refer to obj1 and obj2 } }; } } Defining a class first: void doSomething() { for (/* Assume some loop */) { Object obj1, obj2; IWorker worker = new Worker(obj1, obj2); } } static class Worker implements IWorker { private Object obj1, obj2; public CustomObject(Object obj1, Object obj2) {/* blah blah */} @Override public void doWork() {} }; Thank you :)

  • Zend_Test: No default module defined for this application

    - by jiewmeng
    UPDATE 23 Dec I had the problem where Zend Framework complains about "No default module defined for this application". I didn't use Modules and the main app works fine. I finally solved the problem with the help from weierophinney.net Your bootstrap needs to minimally set the controller directory -- do a call to $this->frontController->addControllerDirectory(...) in your appBootstrap() method. I didn't in my example, as my Initialization plugin does that sort of thing for me. The problem is solved by adding the below to setUp() $this->getFrontController()->setControllerDirectory(APPLICATION_PATH . '/controllers'); But now, I have afew other questions: 1. Why does that value not get initialized by application.ini? In application.ini, I have [production] resources.frontController.controllerDirectory = APPLICATION_PATH "/controllers" [testing : production] // didn't change anything regarding modules nor controllers 2. I tried setting the controllerDirectory in bootstrap.php of my unit test, but it does not work $front = Zend_Controller_Front::getInstance(); $front->setControllerDirectory(APPLICATION_PATH . '/controllers'); The only way that works is using setUp(). Why is that? END UPDATE 23 Dec I am getting the above error when unit testing my controller plugins. I am not using any modules. in my bootstrap.php for unit testing, I even tried adding $front = Zend_Controller_Front::getInstance(); $front->setDefaultModule('default'); But it still does not work. Anyways my bootstrap.php looks like this UPDATE: the error looks something like There were 2 errors: 1) Application_Controller_Plugin_AclTest::testAccessToUnauthorizedPageRedirectsToLogin Zend_Controller_Exception: No default module defined for this application D:\ResourceLibrary\Frameworks\PHPFrameworks\Zend\Controller\Dispatcher\Standard.php:391 D:\ResourceLibrary\Frameworks\PHPFrameworks\Zend\Controller\Dispatcher\Standard.php:204 D:\ResourceLibrary\Frameworks\PHPFrameworks\Zend\Controller\Dispatcher\Standard.php:244 D:\ResourceLibrary\Frameworks\PHPFrameworks\Zend\Controller\Front.php:954 D:\ResourceLibrary\Frameworks\PHPFrameworks\Zend\Test\PHPUnit\ControllerTestCase.php:205 D:\Projects\Tickle\tests\application\controllers\plugins\aclTest.php:6 2) Application_Controller_Plugin_AclTest::testAccessToAllowedPageWorks Zend_Controller_Exception: No default module defined for this application D:\ResourceLibrary\Frameworks\PHPFrameworks\Zend\Controller\Dispatcher\Standard.php:391 D:\ResourceLibrary\Frameworks\PHPFrameworks\Zend\Controller\Dispatcher\Standard.php:204 D:\ResourceLibrary\Frameworks\PHPFrameworks\Zend\Controller\Dispatcher\Standard.php:244 D:\ResourceLibrary\Frameworks\PHPFrameworks\Zend\Controller\Front.php:954 D:\ResourceLibrary\Frameworks\PHPFrameworks\Zend\Test\PHPUnit\ControllerTestCase.php:205 D:\Projects\Tickle\tests\application\controllers\plugins\aclTest.php:16 UPDATE I tried adding public function setUp() { $front = Zend_Controller_Front::getInstance(); $front->setDefaultModule('default'); } then 1 part works. public function testAccessToUnauthorizedPageRedirectsToLogin() { // this fails with exception "Zend_Controller_Exception: No default module defined for this application" $this->dispatch('/projects'); $this->assertController('auth'); $this->assertAction('login'); } public function testAccessToAllowedPageWorks() { // this passes $auth = Zend_Auth::getInstance(); $authAdapter = new Application_Auth_Adapter('jiewmeng', 'password'); $auth->authenticate($authAdapter); $this->dispatch('/projects'); $this->assertController('projects'); $this->assertAction('index'); }

  • Error calling webservice from JQuery

    - by Robban
    I have a strange problem when I'm trying to call a simple webservice method from Jquery. Locally it works fine, but on my test-server it does not. The jquery request looks like this (only showing the actual request and not the rest of the method): $.ajax({ type: "POST", url: "/Service/Service.asmx/AddTab", data: "tab=" + element.innerHTML, success: function(msg) { alert('success'); } }); When I run this locally from the test-server it works fine, which has me wondering if it could be some setting that I've missed in the IIS. If I navigate to the .asmx file and click the AddTab method I get a list of SOAP 1.1 and SOAP 1.2 XML, but not the HTTP POST request. If I navigate to it locally I get all three (SOAP 1.1, SOAP 1.2 and HTTP Post) The service is set up as follows: [WebService(Namespace = "mynamespace")] [WebServiceBinding(ConformsTo = WsiProfiles.BasicProfile1_1)] [System.ComponentModel.ToolboxItem(false)] [ScriptService()] public class Service : System.Web.Services.WebService { [WebMethod(EnableSession=true)] [ScriptMethod()] public void AddTab(string tab) { //Some code to add a tab which evidently works locally... } } Anyone have a clue what I'm missing here?

  • How do I prevent JAXB from binding superclass methods of the @XmlRootElement when marshalling?

    - by Matt Fisher
    I have a class that is annotated as the @XmlRootElement with @XmlAccessorType(XmlAccessType.NONE). The problem that I am having is that the superclass's methods are being bound, when I do not want them to be bound, and cannot update the class. I am hoping there is an annotation that I can put on the root element class to prevent this from happening. Example: @XmlRootElement @XmlAccessorType(XmlAccessType.NONE) public class Person extends NamedObject { @XmlElement public String getId() { ... } } I would expect that only the methods annotated @XmlElement on Person would be bound and marshalled, but the superclass's methods are all being bound, as well. The resulting XML then has too much information. How do I prevent the superclass's methods from being bound without having to annotate the superclass, itself?

  • Why does Java's TreeSet not specify that its type parameter must extend Comparable?

    - by Tarski
    e.g. The code below throws a ClassCastException when the second Object is added to the TreeSet. Couldn't TreeSet have been written so that the type parameter can only be a Comparable type? i.e. TreeSet would not compile because Object is not Comparable. That way generics actually do their job - of being typesafe. import java.util.TreeSet; public class TreeSetTest { public static void main(String [] args) { TreeSet<Object> t = new TreeSet<Object>(); t.add(new Object()); t.add(new Object()); } }

  • Why is the base() constructor not necessary?

    - by Earlz
    Hello, I have a class structure like abstract class Animal { public Animal(){ //init stuff.. } } class Cat : Animal { public Cat(bool is_keyboard) : base() //NOTE here { //other init stuff } } Now then, look at the noted line. If you remove : base() then it will compile without an error. Why is this? Is there a way to disable this behavior? I have had multiple bugs now from forgetting the base() which I would have thought to be required on such a special thing as a constructor.

  • "Cannot convert to IComparer"

    - by Odrade
    I have the following IComparer defined for boxed RegistryItem objects: public class BoxedRegistryItemComparer : IComparer<object> { public int Compare(object left, object right) { RegistryItem leftReg = (RegistryItem)left; RegistryItem rightReg = (RegistryItem)right; return string.Compare(leftReg.Name, rightReg.Name); } } I want to use this to sort an ArrayList of boxed RegistryItems (It really should be a List<RegistryItem, but that's out of my control). ArrayList regItems = new ArrayList(); // fill up the list ... BoxedRegistryItemComparer comparer = new BoxedRegistryItemComparer(); ArrayList.sort(comparer); However, the last line gives the compiler error: "Cannot convert from BoxedRegistryItemComparer to System.Collections.IComparer". I would appreciate it if someone could point out my mistake.

  • Use the [Serializable] attribute or subclassing from MarshalByRefObject?

    - by Theo Lenndorff
    I'd like to use an object across AppDomains. For this I can use the [Serializeable] attribute: [Serializable] class MyClass { public string GetSomeString() { return "someString" } } Or subclass from MarshalByRefObject: class MyClass: MarshalByRefObject { public string GetSomeString() { return "someString" } } In both cases I can use the class like this: AppDomain appDomain = AppDomain.CreateDomain("AppDomain"); MyClass myObject = (MyClass)appDomain.CreateInstanceAndUnwrap( typeof(MyClass).Assembly.FullName, typeof(MyClass).FullName); Console.WriteLine(myObject.GetSomeString()); Why do both approaches seem to have the same effect? What is the difference in both approaches? When should I favor the one approach over the other? EDIT: At the surface I know that there are differences between both mechanisms, but if someone jumped out of a bush and asked me the question I couldn't give him a proper answer. The questions are quite open questions. I hoped that someone can explain it better than I could do.
