• Firmware/driver for Broadcom wifi card, PowerBook G4 running Ubuntu 12.04 [duplicate]

  This question already has an answer here: How to Install Broadcom Wireless Drivers 40 answers This is my first time working with Ubuntu (or Linux), so please be patient. I am running Ubuntu 12.04-powerpc "Precise Pangolin" on a Mac PowerBook G4 with 1.67GHz processor. The firmware/driver for the wifi card is missing. For reasons not worth explaining, I cannot physically plug the computer into the network. I have another computer, a MacBook Pro running OSX, from which I can download files and port them by USB thumb drive. The wifi card in the PowerBook G4 is by Broadcom. The chip is BCM4306, rev. 3. The PCI number is 14e4:4302. I have downloaded b43-fwcutter_015-14_powerpc.deb and dropped it into the Home folder on the Ubuntu machine. However, it will not install. When I double-click, it opens with Ubuntu SoftwareCenter, but the "Install" button is inactive: I can't click it. There's a message beside the inactive button saying, "An older version of 'b43-fwcutter' is available in your normal software channels. Only install this file if you trust the origin." If I "right-click" the .deb file and open with Archive Manager, it shows me the "DEBIAN" and "usr" folders, but I'm unsure what to do from there...and fairly certain this is not the right way to do things. Maybe I have the wrong version of b43-fwcutter for my machine/version of Ubuntu? The documentation for this problem is a mess. It refers to all sorts of out-of-date Ubuntu versions and to an array of different "cutter" and firmware files. Maybe I'd be able to figure this out if I were a more seasoned Ubuntu user, but I have no idea why Sofware Center won't let me do the install. I would be VERY grateful for an explanation of how to get the wifi card working on this machine again. Thank you!

  Quick resolution: Give full permission to AUTHENTICATED USERS in following folders. a) ORACLE_HOME b) Program Files\ORACLE   Check your PATH. You might have installed different clients in your system and your .NET application is pointing to a home with inappoperiate client. What your .NET application should load is OCI.DLL with File version more than 8.1.7. According to the MSDN document Oracle and ADO.NET:   "The .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle provides access to an Oracle database using the Oracle Call Interface (OCI) as provided by Oracle Client software. The functionality of the data provider is designed to be similar to that of the .NET Framework data providers for SQL Server, OLE DB, and ODBC. "     The MSDN document System Requirements (Oracle) says: "The .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle requires Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) version 2.6 or later. MDAC 2.8 SP1 is recommended. You must also have Oracle 8i Release 3 (8.1.7) Client or later installed. "   Both the .NET Framework Data Provider for Oracle and Oracle Data Provider for .NET are data providers to access Oracle database. The former ships with .NET Framework and requires Oracle client version 8.1.7 or above. The latter is provided by Oracle company and requires Oracle client version 9.2 or later.     The Oracle Data Provider for .NET (ODP.NET) features optimized ADO.NET data access to the Oracle database. • Fun Upgrading to .Net 4.0

  We are currently in the process of upgrading one of our applications to .Net 4.0. Aside from us geeks wanting to always use latest and greatest technologies, an immediate business need for Silverlight 4.0 features justified our upgrade endeavor. The following is a summary of some issues we ran into with our web project:   For security purposes, the IIS 7 .Net 4.0 ISAPI filter is disabled. “Allow” it from the ISAPI and CGI Restrictions screen as shown:   Figure 1 - Allowing ASP.Net 4.0 ISAPI Filter   By default the Web Setup Project only requires the .Net Framework 4 Client Profile to be installed on target system, which offers a lighter weight install for client machines consuming .Net 4.0 applications. However, using certain .Net 4.0 features requires the full .Net 4.0 Framework as outlined in this link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc656912.aspx. We hence needed to update the installer to require the complete .Net 4.0 Framework on the target machine and to prompt for its installation if needed.   To accomplish this goal, we updated the installer’s launch conditions to check for .Net 4.0 as well as the installer prerequisites as shown:     Figure 2- Ensure Web Setup Project runs on full .Net 4.0 version Figure 3 - Launch Conditions screen Figure 4 - Set launch condition to .Net 4.0.   I bought a branding new Galaxy Note II and I tried to mount its storage to my ubuntu laptop. As you know, Android 4.0+ uses MTP by default. Android 4.1 doesn't support USB Mass Storage anymore! So I have to use MTP to open my files via USB. I followed this article to get it work. • EPM Architecture: Reporting and Analysis

  Reporting and Analysis is the basis for all Oracle EPM reporting components. Through the Java based Reporting and Analysis web application deployed on WebLogic, it enables users to browse through reports for all kind of Oracle EPM reporting components. Typical users access the web application by browser through Oracle HTTP Server (OHS). Reporting and Analysis Web application talks to the Reporting and Analysis Agent using CORBA protocol on various ports. All communication to the repository databases (EPM System Registry and Reporting and Analysis database) from web and application layer is done using JDBC. As an additional data store, the Reporting and Analysis Agent uses the file system to lay down individual reports. While the reporting artifacts are stored on the file system, the folder structure and report based security information is stored in the relational database. The file system can be either local or remote (e.g. network share, network file system). If an external user directory is used, Reporting and Analysis services also communicate to this directory.   A new version of Oracle BPM Suite 11.1.1.7 with Adaptive Case Management (ACM) is now available, so what will that mean for requirements gathering? BPM project requirements can be documented using Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN 2.0). For ACM, there is a new notation in the works. It is called Case Management Model and Notation (CMMN). For now, this notation isn’t included as a modeling tool in the new version of Oracle BPM Suite 11.1.1.7 with ACM, but it is possible that a modeling tool could be included in a future release. What is CMMN? CMMN is a standard intended to capture the common elements that Case Management Products use, the same way that BPMN is a standard for BPM products (such as Oracle BPM). CMMN is created by the Object Management Group (OMG) and is still in the beta version. In April 2014, OMG released the second beta version the CMMN 1.0, and the most recent version is available here. CMMN captures some of the elements that are commonly used when talking about ACM such as Cases, Milestones, and Tasks. It also introduces some elements that you may not automatically hear when talking about ACM such as Stages, Events, and Decorators. • Server 2008R2 in Extra Small Windows Azure Instance?

  Windows Azure hosting for an Extra Small (XS) Windows VM seems to come out to be about $10 a month right now. I think this XS instance gives you the equivalent of a 1 GHZ CPU with 768MB of RAM. I think the minimum requirements for Server 2008 is 1GHZ CPU with 512MB of RAM. Also, I think the minimum requirements for SQL Server Express is 1GHZ CPU with 256 MB of RAM and that the minimum requirements for Team Foundation Server Express 11 Beta is 2.2 GHZ CPU with 1 Gig of RAM (this 2.2 GHZ part could be a problem for my 1 GHZ XS VM...). Given the performance of the XS Azure instance, would I be able to install: a very basic MVC web site; a free instance of SQL Server Express; a free single user instance of Team Foundation Server Express 11 Beta and run the XS VM instance without serious crashing? I know there are other Shared WebHost providers that can provide these features for me, but those hosting providers have the following disadvantages: They sometimes cost a lot of money after all of the "addons" are in place They probably don't provide the level of security and employee integrity that Microsoft can provide They don't provide the total control that an Azure VM seems to provide

• MonoGame not all letters being drawn with DrawString

  I'm currently making a dynamic user interface for my game and are setting up having text on my buttons. I'm having an odd issue where, when i use a specific piece of code to determine the text position, it will not render all of the text passed to DrawString. Even weirder, is if i insert another DrawString after this, drawing more text at a different place, different parts of the text will be drawn. The code for drawing my button with the text attached is: public override void Draw(SpriteBatch sb, GameTime gt) { sb.Draw(currentImage, GetRelativeRectangle(), Color.White); sb.DrawString(font, text, new Vector2(this.GetRelativeDrawOffset().X + this.Width / 2 - font.MeasureString(text).X / 2, this.GetRelativeDrawOffset().Y + this.Height / 2 - font.MeasureString(text).Y / 2), textColor); } The methods in the creation of the Vector2 simply get the draw position of the button. I'm then doing some calculation to center the text. This produces this when the text is set to 'Test': And when i enter this piece of code below the first DrawString: sb.DrawString(font, "test", new Vector2(500, 50), Color.Pink); I should mention that that grey square is being drawn in the same spritebatch, before the button and the text. Any ideas as to what could be causing this? I have a feeling it may be due to draw order, but i have no idea how to control that.

• Bazaar - pull the last revision only (and not the whole branch)

  Shortly: How can I take the latest revision (only) from a remote bazaar repository and add it as a new revision to a local repository. Background: I have a development system and a production system. On a development system there's a bazaar repository having branch with lots of development revisions. Once in a while I want to incorporate the latest developments into production system. I want to do so by some sort of "pulling" (development system can not connect to production for security reasons, but production can initiate connection to development). On the production, I don't want the whole development revision history, only those revisions which actually go into production (normally it's the branch tip). Yet I want version control on the production system to keep track of what actually goes into production each time. bzr pull pulls the whole branch. bzr pull --revision=last:1 also pulls the whole branch, up to the specified revision. bzr merge --pull --revision=last:1 also pulls the whole branch. bzr merge --pull --revision=last:2..last:1 and bzr merge --pull --change=last:1 both pull only the new changes introduced in the latest revision, but not changes introduced in the older revisions. With lightweight checkout I have no track of revisions which are pulled into production - local working tree remains part of the remote repository The only way I see so far is importing the working tree using some rsync or scp and committing them to a local branch afterwards. Any better ideas ?

• Removed Java replaced with newest "Sun Java", disc won't boot, and won't let me re-install grub using boot repair disc

  Had a minor problem with my Stock market platform. Set-up screen would freeze program. Called their tech support, got their "Linux guy", who advised remove all Java and replace, not with synaptic version, but newest Sun Java. After removing, computer auto rebooted, and went to blue mem-test screen. Showed no errors, but couldn't get back in. Tried two versions of boot repair disc from iso (checked md5sum, showed good.), but fix aborted, giving apt-error detected. Opened a terminal and typed (or copy/paste): sudo chroot "/mnt/boot-sav/sda1" apt-get -f install. My system is Ubuntu 12.04. Had a few very minor issues from install, all fixed. Also added some of my favorite gnome tricks just to make life easier, but none that could have caused this. Added script to add shortcuts to desktop, open terminal in any menu from inside it, access root terminal, etc. System was firewalled and using avast antivirus (o.k., I'm paranoid. Used to do Windows sys-op and security.) But relative newbie to Linux.

• The premier support for Sun Cluster 3.1 ended

  In October 2011 the premier support for Sun Cluster 3.1 ended. See details in Oracle Lifetime Support Policy for Oracle and Sun System Software document. There no 'Extended Support' and the 'Sustaining Support Ends' is indefinite. But for indefinite 'Sustaining Support' I like to point out from the mentioned document (version Sept. 2011) on page 5: Sustaining Support does NOT include: * New program updates, fixes, security alerts, general maintenance releases, selected functionality releases and documentation updates or upgrade tools * Certification with most new third-party products/versions and most new Oracle products * 24 hour commitment and response guidelines for Severity 1 service requests *Previously released fixes or updates that Oracle no longer supports This means Solaris 10 9/10 update9 is the last qualified release for Sun Cluster 3.1. So, Sun Cluster 3.1 is not qualified on Solaris 10 8/11 Update10. Furthermore there is an issue around with SVM patch 145899-06 or higher. This SVM patch is part of Solaris 10 8/11 Update10. The 145899-06 is the first released patch of this number, therefore the support for Sun Cluster 3.1 ends with the previous SVM patches 144622-01 and 139967-02. For details about the known problem with SVM patch 145899-06 please refer to doc 1378828.1. Further this means you should freeze (no patching, no upgrade) your Sun Cluster 3.1 configuration not later than Solaris 10 9/10 update9. Or even better plan an upgrade to Solaris Cluster 3.3 now to get back to full support.

• Antenna Aligner Part 3: Kaspersky

  Quick one today. Since starting this project, I've been encountering times where Nomad fails to build my app. It would then take repeated attempts at building to then see a build go through successfully. Rob, who works on Nomad at Red Gate, investigated this and it showed that certain parts of the message required to trigger the 'cloud build' were not getting through to the Nomad app, causing the HTTP connection to stall until timeout. After much scratching heads, it turns out that the Kaspersky Internet Security system I have installed on my laptop at home, was being very aggressive and was causing the problem. Perhaps it's trying to protect me from myself? Anyway, we came up with an interim solution why the Nomad guys investigate with Kaspersky by setting Visual Studio to be a trusted application with the Kaspersky settings and setting it to not scan network traffic. Hey presto! This worked and I have not had a single build problem since (other than losing internet connection, or that embarrassing moment when you blame everyone else then realise you've accidentally switched off your wireless on the laptop).
