• How to send a signal SIGINT from script to script ? BASH

  I want to trap a signal send from Script-A.sh to Script-B.sh so in Script-A.sh i use the command (Send SIGINT to Script-B.sh) kill -2 $PID_Script-B.sh And in Script-B.sh i catch the signal and call function Clean trap 'Clean' 2 It does not work, instead the Script-B.sh is killed right away without performing the Clean !! What i notice also is that if i want to send SIGINT from terminal to any script that traps it, a ctrl-c will be catched correctly, but not if i specify the signal via the command kill -2 $pid_of_script Any idea about the difference between the two method to send the SIGINT (ctrl-c VS kill -2 $pid_of_script), and how i can send a SIGINT from a script to another ?   I have AdventureWorks database mdf file in my VS 2010 project. Is there anyway I can create Membership tables inside my AdventureWorks database. I know I can detach the database attach in SQL SERVER 2008. Create the tables and then detach. But I don't have SQL SERVER 2008 and I want to see if this can be done using command line tool. I tried this but no use: aspnet_regsql.exe -d AdventureWorks.mdf -A mr -E -S .\SQLEXPRESS Update: If I right click and see the properties of the AdventureWorks.mdf database then it shows the name as "C4BE6C8DA139A060D14925377A7E63D0_64A_10\ADVENTUREWORKSWEBFORMS\ADVENTUREWORKSWEBFORMS\ADVENTUREWORKS\APP_DATA\ADVENTUREWORKS.MDF" This is interesting!

• Android - Camera functionality howto

  Hi, I'm using the example from the SDK (CameraPreview) and also the example from this site http://marakana.com/forums/android/android_examples/39.html When I run it, both gives this error "The application AppName(appname) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". I can't run the debugger either because it's always "Waiting for debugger. Force close". (I have debuggable=true in the manifest file) The phone I have is a Nexus One. Running on the emulator gives me the black and white squares with a moving square. (So I assume it works on the emulator?). Even on the emulator it gives me the "stopped unexpectedly" error 50% of the time. Does anyone know what caused it? Thanks, Tee

In excel 2007 I have used: If Chart2.Shapes(2).ControlFormat.ListCount = "16" Then To check the size of the list so that it doesnt get entered in again (resulting in an extremely long list that repeats itself). This line works well in Excel 2007, but gives a Object doesn't support this property or method. error in Excel 2002. What is the difference between working with shapes in 2002 vs 2007?

  My question and comments here http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2471198/what-is-ado-net shows my level of knowledge about c# database apps. Can someone point me to tutorials and/or primers that can help me proceed from where I am (also stated in other question)? I've looked and all I've found are tutorials that talk about general db basics (ie, not helping with VS/C#), or talk about connecting to existing SQL db's. I need help setting one up and configuring it, as well as help on how to create and use queries to test the db schema.

  I have a pure ActionScript project. I'm using Flex Builder on a Mac, Flex SDK 3.4 and I've even added the playerglobal.swc from the Flash folder to the project's library path. I get autocomplete when I add import flash.net.NetStreamPlayOptions; import flash.net.NetStreamPlayTransitions; But when I run the movie, I get: VerifyError: Error #1014: Class flash.net::NetStreamPlayOptions could not be found. I don't get it.. What must I do to use those classes?

  I am using VS 2008 Team Suite and SQL Server 2008 in my development environment. I am deploying to a shared-host website with shared-host SQL Server 2005. I want to push changes from my development environment to my production host. I tried using Data | Schema Compare... and it reports to me that it does not support SQL Server 2008. What do people use for this (Besides Red-Gate tools - I use those at my day job, and they rock...this is a volunteer thing for my son's school)? I am looking for something very inexpensive if not free.

  Hi, I've spent many many hours tonight reading up on implementing the event-based asynchronous pattern Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any articles at all on witting a class that only supports one Async invocation. Every example I've seen assumes that a method call will be called more than once and thus, should have a userState object passed into the MethodNameAsync You'll see that MS makes mention of this in the third bullet point on this article http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms228974(VS.80).aspx under the "Simultaneously Executing Operations" heading. But I'm confused. Should I be using AsyncOperation and AsyncOperationManager classes to have asynchronous functionality where a method can only be called by one thread at a time? • Best option for using the GData APIs on Android?

  What's the least painful and most size efficient way to use the Google Data APIs in an Android application? After a few quick searches t seems that there is an android-gdata project on Google Code that seems to be the work of a single author. I didn't find any documentation for it and don't even know if it's production ready yet. An older option, the com.google.wireless.gdata package seems to have been removed from the SDK. It's still available in the GIT repository. Before I invest too much time with either approach I'd like to know which is the best supported and least painful.

• How to manage and capture database changes across several developers?

  We have three developers and one tester all working against the same database. We change the schema of the database quite often, and every time we do it tends to have a ripple effect of headaches for everyone else. Are there good practices in place for .NET oriented development against MS SQL Server 2008 for managing this? I am thinking something similar to Rails Migrations and each dev and tester has their own local database. Or is that overkill? It'd at least be nice to have separate test and dev databases, but currently manually keeping two databases in sync is probably worse than our current predicament. LiquiBase seems promising, has anyone successfully used it in a similar environment? Or are there better approaches? We are using SQL Server 2008, VS 2008 and .NET 3.5 if that matters at all.

• Xcode 3.2 + LLVM = no local symbols when debugging

  I have a project for Mac OS X 10.5 that I'm building on 10.6 using Xcode 3.2. When I use GCC 4.2 for Debug build and hit a breakpoint, Xcode debugger displays local variable information normally. If I choose LLVM GCC 4.2 or Clang LLVM, when I hit breakpoint, local symbols are not available, and GDB says No symbol 'self' in current context if I try to print self or any other local symbol. In all cases Generate debug info option is set. The Debug configuration is set to $(NATIVE_ARCH) and 10.5 SDK, Build active architecture only option is set. When GDB starts, I can see it is being configured as x86_64-apple-darwin. I must be missing something obvious. How do I make GDB show local symbols when using a LLVM compiler?

Previously, for my similar Winforms App, I had extended the IComponent (Component Class) and wrote our VS Like designer kind of custom control which will allow users to drag drop controls from the visual studio toolbox and then I export it as a VisualStudio C#&VB ItemTemplate. Now I am trying to recreate the same control using WPF considering its power, extensiblity. Could anyone shed some lights on this, on what would be the most preferable way of doing this ? • Restart IIS7 webapp for debug in VS2008

  I'm developing an ASP.NET asyc generic handler which uses a static System.Threading.Timer instance to feed data to the response output stream while the context is in the asynchronous phase. I'm having issues at startup that I'd like to debug. Currently, because of the long-lived nature of the timer, I'm manually killing w3wp.exe in order to cause the application to restart. I'm aware that there are other ways to do this, but this is the best workflow I can find! Isn't there a way to force a cold start when I hit f5, instead of the standard VS approach of attaching to the existing IIS process?

• Codeigniter: Combining activeRecord with manual queries?

  Hi everybody, I've though a bit about the activerecord vs. manual queries in Codeigniter. ActiveRecord is awesome when it's all about standard queries and holds development time really low. However, when there's a need to add some complexity to the queries, the ActiveRecord gets quite complicated to work with. Sub queries or complex joins gives atleast me a lot of headache. Since the current "$this-db-query" -call immediately executes the set query, it can't be combined with normal activeRecord calls. So, what can I do to combine the two methods? Thanks!

• Problem wit MDAC when trying to compile in VS2008 using x64 bit target platform

  I am trying to compile an 32 bit application. I am aware of problems with it but that is why its being compiled on 64 bit version. I am hanging at this problem. Application uses lots of sql stuff. In sqltypes.h file: (provided by MDAC) #ifdef _WIN64 typedef INT64 SQLLEN; typedef UINT64 SQLULEN; typedef UINT64 SQLSETPOSIROW; #else For some reason when its compiled on 32 bit platform it works great But when I try building it on 64 it goes berserk. Error 61 error C2146: syntax error : missing ';' before identifier 'SQLLEN' ..\external\microsoft sdk\include\sqltypes.h 50 It does not recognize INT64, UINT64. Is there something I need to enable so it will work under 64 build process? Missing some #include or #define? Any help would be great Thanks

There are to be a series of elements to this form that require various styles applied to them. Ideally I'd like the VS 2005/2008 properties interface to be able to apply the CSSClass as it does at the control level, i.e. with a dropdown list of available CSS Clases. • raising a vb6 event using interop

  Hi, I have a legacy VB6 component that I've imported into VS using tlbimp.exe to generate my interop assembly. The VB6 component defines an event that allows me to pass messages within VB6. Public Event Message(ByVal iMsg As Variant, oCancel As Variant) I would really like to be able to raise this even in my C# program, but its getting imported as an event, not a delegate or something else useful. So, I can only listen, but never fire. Does anyone know how to fire an event contained within VB6? The C# event looks like [TypeLibType(16)] [ComVisible(false)] public interface __MyObj_Event { event __MyObj_MessageEventHandler Message; } I unfortunately cannot change the VB6 code. Thanks.

• MS SQL and .NET Typed Dataset AllowDBNull Metadata

  Good afternoon, I am generating a typed dataset from a stored procedure. The stored procedure may contain something like: select t1.colA, t2.colA AS t2colA from t1 inner join t2 on t1.key = t2.key When I generate the typed dataset, the dataset knows whether t1.colA allows NULLs, but it always puts FALSE in AllowDBNull for t2.colA even if t2.colA allows NULL. Is this because the column is aliased? Is there any way, from SQL, to hint to VS that the column allows NULL? We currently have to go in and update the column's AllowDBNull if we regenerate the table. Thanks in advance. Christian

In a Desktop Appication, developed in C#, I have a function in which a object in created like this. namespace Class 1 { variables section; .... .... Function1() { local variables; try { Object1 obj = new Object1(); .... .... if(true) { .... } else { **obj.Dispose();** } } catch() {} finally {} } } The object is not disposed when the else part is executed.   In VS2008, I have a web-site project. When I use find in files and search for a string, the find results window will list every occurence twice. What could be causing this? [EDIT] Below is the screen capture from VS. I was searching for the work CommissionBucketProductID within my website project. Notice that each line is returned twice.   Hi! I'm trying to make a C# program which will use a C .dll (unfortunately, the .dll doesn't have good documentation) to access a smart card. One of the functions of the .dll uses name of the reader as argument. My problem is that I don't know how to get the name. • Detecting a Key Press Squashed by Another Application

  I have a WPF application I'm planning to use as an overlay for a DirectX game (specifically Bad Company 2). I'm using WM_KEYBOARD_LL hook to detect KeyDown events so I can bring my app to the foreground when a specific button is pressed. This works perfectly except for when the game is running (I've also noticed this problem with Window's "Chess Titans" so it may be a DirectX thing). As far as I can work out, when the game detects a keyboard press, it "eats" the event and doesn't pass the CallNextHookEx() method like it should, which would allow the key press message to be moved along to the next application in the queue. I'm wondering if there's any sort of work-around to this? It seems kind of unfair that a single application can just willy-nilly eat up messages like that.
