• How does COM registration work in Windows

  I'm an application packager trying to make sense of how the COM registry keys (SelfReg) interrelate to the given .dll in Windows. ProgID's, AppID's, TypeLibs, Extensions & Verbs are all tied around the CLSID right? Do CLSID's always use Prog/App IDs or could you just have a file extension class? Which bits are optional? Some of it seems to be 'like a router' where there's the two interfaces (internal - .dll) and external (the extension etc). How does this all fit? (The SDK documentation doesn't make sense to me) I ask as this is all pivotal to application 'healing' with Windows Installer (which packagers are all 'big' on, but there's no nitty-gritty breakdowns since its a coder-thing really) ---Edit: Am I safe in assuming that for what COM is registered, it must all link back to the CLSID and cannot be a 'dead-end'? Verbs need extensions which need progid's... What about the AppId's, TypeLibs and Interfaces? How do they interrelate?

• Flash in firefox does not start unitl they show in page

  I have this little problem. My client wanted two distinct swf on a web page: a viewer on top and a slideshow of images at bottom. Clicking a link on the slideshow make the viewer load a movie, by means of LocalConnection api. The slideshow has a default, so when the page is loaded a default movie start. This works nice on all browser. The only problem I have is on firefox. When screen resolution is too low, or the monitor is too small (netbook) the slideshow remain hidden until scrolling. Therefore at page loading it doesn't start and the main viewer don't get instructed on playing the default video. As soon as I scroll the page, and the slideshow swf display on page, it starts and everything works fine. Do you know if there are any solution to this ? I cannot change the design, I must have two distinct swf, they come from a library he has, and I am trying to reuse components. thanks Leonardo

• undefined BIO_new_socket function in OpenSSL library

  Hi, I get the following problem with some openssl (yeah, I know it's poorly documented, but I wish to use it any way) code in a project of mine (written in c, on osx and tested in ubuntu): Undefined symbols: "_BIO_new_socket", referenced from: _main in ccG3cvyw.o ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status I did have SSL library problems aswel, because I forgot to link my program to the openssl libraries. The above undefined still stands though. My compile line is: gcc -o test_app test_app.c -lssl Versions I use: (GCC) 4.2.1 OpenSSL 0.9.8l 5 Nov 2009 I'm fairly certain it's a (linked) library issue, as the SSL function SSL_set_bio() works (as in does not produce a build error). • Internet Explorer blocked this website from displaying content with security certificate errors

  I have a security certificate linked to a CDN's server. The main website is https:www.connect4fitness.com When I pull the site up in firefox or chrome, everything works fine. But in IE I get the following error: "Internet Explorer blocked this website from displaying content with security certificate errors." On IE 9 it shows the button "Display Content" and you can get past the error by clicking on the button. On older versions on I the error message is much more cryptic and is confusing users. Please note that I don't have the option of asking end users to add the site to Trusted Sources as some folks use the site from their work computers and do not have that access. Also, some people don't bother to call once they hit the error. I have looked at the content and all my links are "https" only. I had one namespace link and I got rid of it. Any idea about how I can find what is triggering this message?

  Is there a way to create a strongly typed T4MVC ActionLink with a hash in it? For example, here is the link I'd like to create: <a href="/Home/Index#food">Feed me</a> But there's no extension to the T4MVC object that can do this. <%= Html.ActionLink("Feed me", T4MVC.Home.Index()) %> So, what I end up having to do is create an action, and then embed it that way: <a href="<%= Url.Action(T4MVC.Home.Index()) %>"#food>Feed me</a> This isn't very desirable. • What is C's analogy to LabVIEW's Event Structure?

  One programming construct I use quite a bit in LabVIEW is the Event Structure. This gives me the benefit of not having to needlessly waste CPU cycles via polling but only perform actions when an event I'm interested in is generated. As an experienced LabVIEW programmer with a decent understanding of C, I'm curious how one would go about emulating LabVIEW's event structure in C; preferably under Linux. A small code sample (like the one in the link above) illustrating how this might be done would be much appreciated. Also, if there already exists 3rd party libraries (for Linux) to add this event framework to C, that would be nice to know as well. Thanks.

• Ruby on Rails Mysterious Javascript Alert box with cookie information

  I have a problem in a Ruby on Rails app that I am working on. I have been working on the app for months and I have never had this problem before and after a bit of Google searches I think that somehow someone is trying to steal cookies with javascript. When I click on the link I get an alert box titled "the page at www.napkinboard.com says:" and contains the following message: __utmz=217223433.1270652009.59.3.utmcsr=localhost:3000|utmccn=(referral)|utmcmd=referral|utmcct=/; __utma=217223433.2133018314.1265749085.1271097412.1271125626.63; __utmc=217223433; __utmb=217223433.11.10.1271125626 I checked the database and all data associated with this 'food_item' looks completely normal and does not contain any javascript at all. How did this suddenly happen and how can I stop it? I appreciate any help. Thanks.

  Sometimes i get a broken background in Chrome. I do not get this error with any other browser. This is the simple CSS line responsible of the background color of body: body { background: black; color: white; font-family: Chaparral Pro, lucida grande, verdana, sans-serif; } This is exactly how i get this problem. I click a link included in an gmail's email and i get: I refresh the page and the background is colored complete. Does ayone knows about this problem?

• Installing Win32 shared SxS policy via WiX 3.0 MSM fails for 2nd app

  I am attempting to author a merge module for use by multiple application installers to install a Win32 Shared SxS Assembly and its associated Policy. I'm using WiX 3.0 to generate the MSM and test MSIs. So far it works fine for the first app installer that runs … but the second app installer fails because the Policy file already exists (HRESULT: 0x800700B7). What requirement(s) for correct Win32 Shared SxS Policy installation am I missing? I have submitted WiX bug 3005301 for this (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=642714&aid=3005301&group_id=105970) and posted VS2008 projects that reproduce the problem. • Drawing a path with a line in OpenLayers using JavaScript

  I have seen the examples presented here of how to draw a line but the examples only show how to do it with the mouse, by clicking. What I want to do is draw the line manually using JavaScript given a list of Longitude and Latitude coordinates. The reason I cannot work on the source provided in the link above is because they are only calling activate on the feature, and then let the user point and click on the map. Has anyone ever drew a path on an OpenLayers map programatically? What I want to do is exactly this: http://openspace.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/openspace/example4.html, but without using OpenSpace.

• Linux, static lib referring to other static lib within an executable

  Hello, I am creating an application, which consists of two static libs and an executable. Let's call the two static libs: libusefulclass.a libcore.a And the application: myapp libcore instantiates and uses the class defined in libusefulclass (let's call it UsefulClass) Now, if I link the application in the following way: g++ -m64 -Wl,-rpath,/usr/local/Trolltech/Qt-4.5.4/lib -o myapp src1.o src2.o srcN.o -lusefulclass -lcore The linker complains about the methods in libusefulclass not being found: undefined reference to `UsefulClass::foo()' etc. I found a workaround for this: If UsefulClass is also instantiated within the source files of the executable itself, the application is linked without any problems. My question is: is there a more clean way to make libcore refer to methods defined in libusefulclass, or static libs just cannot be linked against eachother? TIA P.S.: In case that matters: the application is being developed in C++ using Qt, but I feel this is not a Qt problem, but a library problem in general.

• How can I differentiate between the .net WebBrowser component and an actual browser?

  OK, so we have an online downloads store accessed via our software. Recently we've had requests to allow downloads via normal browsers and it's fairly easy just to slap a download page on. The problem is that it would be confusing to people having two download links, one for the software and one for their web browser, so we want to differentiate between the two and only show the relevant download link. From what I've gathered, the .net WebBrowser component is the same as IE and uses the same User Agent, so we can't use that unless we subclass the WebBrowser in the software to make it use a specific User Agent. It's the more sensible option, but we'd have to roll out another updated version, which is less than ideal. Are there any other ways to tell if someone's accessing a site via the .net component? My only other alternative is to copy the store to a different address with the different download links and send people there. Again this is doable, but not ideal.

  I am new to js and Jquery other than plug and play scripts and plugins. I have Jcarousel running great on a Ruby on Rails site and I need to use the itemLastInCallback method to change out the next and prev buttons. Basically if the end user clicks through to the last item in a carousel, the next button would become a link to the next carousel. <%= link_to (image_tag 'scroll_right.png'), @next_group % is the code I need to render in the end. So something like: if this is not the last item in the carousel button is normal jcarousel next button else <%= link_to (image_tag 'scroll_right.png'), @next_group % end is there a best way to do this? am I on the right track?

  My goal is to generate a PDF for display in a web page, either as aspx or with a generic handler. (This will link from a Silverlight page, but this is irrelevant to the problem.) The problem is that LocalReport (Microsoft.Reporting.WebForms; Microsoft.ReportViewer.WebForms.dll) requires full trust, and our hosting server does not allow full trust. I am aware that ReportViewer has a remote mode that will allow it to run with partial trust, but for that I need a report server url which should probably have full trust as well, which does not solve anything. So how do I generate PDFs from WebForms in a partially trusted environment?

• Visual Studio .dll Reference not found ?

  I had never had this error before, and I didn't move any file, or exclude any reference. I'm getting this error (link). In the ajaxcontroltoolkit.dll.refresh file, I get a path to the DLL, but it is a path that was located in someone else's computer (who no longer is in charge of this). It might as well work if I just re-do the reference, but what is weird is that I've used this reference before, and had no problems. I don't know what triggered it.. Does anyone have any clue ? --[UPDATE]-- As expected, I've fixed it, but this question remains unanswered. Besides, the exact same problem with a coworker..

• SSRS 2008 Installation Guidelines/Best Practices?

  I know I have seen recommendations for installing SSRS 2005 and it stated that you should separate SSRS from the DB Engine that hosts the data sources for your reports, that you should not install them on the same server. Is there any documentation for SSRS 2008 that provides guidelines/best practices for installation? I am assuming that the same holds true for SSRS 2008 as it did for SSRS 2005 but have not seen it specifically stated anywhere. We have a project that will utilize SSRS 2008 and there is a difference of opinion on where to install it, on it's own dedicated server or on the same SQL Server as the report data sources. If there is a link to any documentation that could be provided it would be gratefully appreciated, all I am finding besides what is in BOL refers to 2005. Thanks in advance!

• Upload large files in .NET

  I've done a good bit of research to find an upload component for .NET that I can use to upload large files, has a progress bar, and can resume the upload of large files. I've come across some components like AjaxUploader, SlickUpload, and PowUpload, to name a few. Each of these options cost money and only PowUpload does the resumable upload, but it does it with a java applet. I'm willing to pay for a component that does those things well, but if I could write it myself that would be best. I have two questions: Is it possible to resume a file upload on the client without using flash/java/Silverlight? Does anyone have some code or a link to an article that explains how to write a .NET HTTPHandler that will allow streaming upload and an ajax progress bar?   Hi .. i have a problem using the "Catch Clipboard Events code" found on this link : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/621577/clipboard-event-c/2487582#2487582 the code works great only if the form stays in the foreground, not minimized to tray BUT: if you add a notifyicon and minimize the form to tray and turn the showintaskbar to false (so that you only have an icon in the tray), the program wont catch any clipboard changes anymore ... even if you maximize the form back, it wont work again ...you have to restart the program .. any idea on how to solve this issue !? how can i catch clipboard changes, even if the form is minimized into the tray !? any help is really appreciated ... • MSVC 2008 - Unresolved External errors with LIB but only with DLL, not with EXE project

  I have a DLL that I am trying to link with a libjpeg LIB using MSVC 2008 that is generating Unresolved External Symbol errors for the libjpeg functions. I also have a test project that links with the exact same libjpeg library file and links without error and runs fine too. I have triple-checked my LIB path and dependent LIBS list settings and literally copy and pasted them from the EXE project to the DLL project. I still get the errors. I do have the libjpeg include headers surrounded by extern "C" so it is not a name mangling issue and the unresolved external warnings show the "missing" libjpeg functions as undecorated (just a leading underscore and the @ sign parameter byte count suffix after each name). What could make the linker with the DLL project be unable to find the functions properly when the test EXE project has no trouble at all? I'm using the pre-compiled 32-bit static multi-threaded debug library which I downloaded from ClanLib. Thanks, Robert
