Has anybody had the chance to use either one of Z-Drive or Z-Drive R2? How do they perform? How fast can they boot Windows? How faster can the compile a big C/C++ or Java based project?
I use Diigo, but I'm looking for alternatives to it. The main feature I need (that most don't have) is the ability to search on the full page text. Diigo does this, but I was hoping there might be others out there to choose from too. If you know of one, I'd even consider locally installed programs that have this ability, but I do prefer web-based tools for this.
Vim shows non-printable characters prefixed with a ^ (for instance ^@ for a NUL byte).
I have a column based file containing both printable and non-printable characters which is difficult to read, since each non-printable character shifts all remaining columns one character to the right.
Is there a way to hide non-printable characters or simply display a placeholder char instead? I also don't mind having every character be represented by two characters.
I have grow to prefer x86 based router OS's like Vyatta and pfSense over their competitors Cisco and Juniper (Well, I never really used Juniper, but still.). However, they feel "fake" to me, like "Frankenstein" routers. I think my greatest worry is that I am missing out on something by not using the main contenders.
Are there any benchmarks out there that compare the main metrics (throuput, etc.) of x86 router operating systems to their proprietary counterparts?
I seems i did some mistake, and installed Ubuntu server on my home based ubuntu box.
and the problem is that GRUB places the server edition as a priority boot in the menu, especially when I upgrade the kernel or the release.
How can I remove the server from the GRUB menu permanently? can I un-install Ubuntu server edition?
Hi, on Mac, you know there is no 'merge files' when you command+c/command+v some folder on another one, it actually replaces it. I'm simply wondering on what UNIX is this based? Because correct me if I'm wrong, but "cp - R" DOES merge files, no? And that's what I'm doing via the Finder, copying some files and folders...
thanks!
This question is quite general, but most specifically I'm interested in knowing if virtual machine running Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud (that's Xen-based) will be any slower than the same physical machine without any virtualization. How much (1%, 5%, 10%)?
Did anyone measure performance difference of web server or db server (virtual VS physical)?
Hello,
A professor at the university asked me if I could install some software for him on his laptop that runs SLES 11. I'm not familiar with SUSE (I typically work with debian based machines) so I'm having some trouble finding/installing some software.
Here's the list of software he needs installed:
-xv (plotting software)
-xmgrace
-LaTeX
Can someone point me toward some rpms for the above-mentioned software?
I am planning to buy a new laptop and would like to know if I should go for an i3, i5 or an i7 based laptop? I do most of my development in Visual Studio 2010 and also use Eclipse and Weblogic 10. Also planning to use WPF/Silverlight in the future. Will going for a i7 really benefit me or an i3 or an i5 will suffice for my needs?
I have something like this:
Raster Layer 1
Raster Layer 2
Adjustment Layer
Raster Layer 3
Raster Layer 4
I want to apply the adjustment layer to the raster layers below it, "rasterizing" it basically, so that the pixels in layers 3 & 4 are changed based on the adjustment layer. I don't want to do this one layer at a time, is this possible in Photoshop CS4?
what's the best way to manage a large amount of documents? (word,ppt,pdf...) when windows explorer is not sufficient? preferably desktop based solution
I know that we have HTTPS, but I would like to know if there's an algorithm/approach/strategy that grants a reasonable security level without using SSL.
I have read many solution on the internet.
Most of them are based on adding some time metadata to the hashes, but it needs that both server and client has the time set equal. Moreover, it seems to me that none of this solution could prevent a man in the middle attack.
I'm currently trying to download a full magneto install from a ftp server. The connection keeps failing, it seems as if there are too many files and folders to scan through?
Can anyone shed any light on how to resolve this? The shared platform seems to b e a standard platform based on Plesk 8.6.
As this is a shared server, there is no option for me to really do anything, apart from contact the hosting company (who have offered to zip up all the files for me, but this is not ideal)
When the table of contents is generated, it numbers sections based upon their heading.
section 1
section 2
2.1 section 2.1
2.2 secttion 2.2
section 3
and so on.
I would like these section numbers to appear at the paragraph level also.
1, (section 1 header text)
... section 1 content ...
2, (section 2 header text)
... section 2 content ....
Any tips?
I thought the pictures associated with our profiles were automatically generated until they were manually changed. A lot of people have these cool identicons based on their IP address.
How can I get my own identicon? I am looking for an online generator. Gravator does not seem to have any options to generate identicons.
Edit: I will probably accept your answer if you just tell me how you made your identicon (and it did not involve downloading/installing stuff)
Has anyone ever ran across a program that in a generic manner will execute a sql query and then based on criteria email out alerts. Going to create such a framework but don't want to re create the wheel if I don't have to. It could be used to check various things like if things are setup correctly inside our ERP etc...
Thanks for any thoughts.
Michael
I have two Windows Server 2003 and both have DFS and it does replication between them.
I would like to migrate the primary win2k3 DFS server to win2k8. what is the best way to do that?
I found this article:
Migrate a Domain-based Namespace to Windows Server 2008 Mode
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc753875.aspx
But I am interested only on migrating the DFS replication and not the namespace.
Thanks.
I have an Excel sheet that I'm using to keep track of the status of certain things.
I want to have a column which consists of cells containing a repeated drop down that allows you to select (as background)
red
amber
green
unknown
I don't want any text in this cell, I just want a coloured block.
Is this possible?
I've tried playing around with data-validation-list (based on range containing all of said colours but to no avail)
The idea is to use Vista RFM as a freeware version of Windows to allow Mac users running a Windows-based application via VirtualBox.
Is there a way to make that possible (starting the program automatically in RFM)?
Thanks!
Is there any way to untar and only extract those files that are above a certain date including directory structure??
I restored a backup on a play server but it was a few days old. However I have a tar archive of the entire structure that is more up to date and healthy so now I want to extract all files (including directory structure) based on a date filter on the files if possible?
We have an EC2 instance (Ubuntu) that has a few java-based applications and lately we're getting hit with high CPU utilization spikes that trigger one of our Cloudwatch alarms. By the time we get into the server to look at the cpu utilization, things have calmed down.
What we'd love to see in one of the alarm emails is a list of running processes and their cpu utilization(%) at the time of the alarm. Is this even possible?
I have a scenario based question...Something , I haven't faced till now ,but i would be interested to know the answer.
If i have assigned a luns (say, of 50 GB) and put them in storage group. However, the windows server team did not grab that lun but sent an acknowledgment saying the Luns are alingned.
I would like to know what will happen to the Luns that belong to the SG ..in my opinion they will remain in the SG as unassigned Luns ..or is there a possibility that the lUns will move back to the storage.
Gitosis is able to authenticate users based on public/private key pair. It is able to find out which user is currently committing. However, the user name and email is taken from the client's Git configuration ('git config user.name' etc.), which can be set to arbitrary values. Is there any way to associate user names and emails with their public keys and then make Gitosis uses these names and emails as the name and email of the committer?
I am running a wsgi based application that has concurrent users accessing it. For my logs needs I tried logrotate but found that logrotate is not too friendly to Python applications, so I tried using RotatingFileHandler and even worse found my logs all chopped up and part of it went missing!
I am considering ConcurrentRotatingFileHandler, my question is, has anyone out there experienced the same thing and better yet do you have any battle tested solution for Python wsgi, concurrently accessed applications?
I run a small PBX based on the FreePBX distro of Asterisk. The installation has been steadily upgraded but for various reasons, we want to start again on a new server with a clean install from the distribution media.
Will I be able to take a backup from the old server and restore it to the new server, even though the installs are different versions? How sensitive are FreePBX backups to the build version? Is it possible to get at least a partial restore?
