• Communicating between PHP and Java using ActiveMQ/Stomp

  Background I have two services that need to communicate with each other over a message queue. One is a legacy service written in PHP and the other is in Java. Sooner than later, the PHP service will be rewritten in Java. The current way they communicate with each other is to write to a shared database, which the other service polls. This is what I'm trying to get away from and replace with a message queue. Problem The communication I'm working on right now is from the PHP service to the Java service. It needs to send a relatively complex object (strings and and integers and lists and maps of strings and integers). Ideally, the solution would be workable in PHP and ideal in Java, as that's going to be the legacy of this project. Possible Solutions 1.

  Is there any ability to mock methods that are provided with RIA Services? I would like to test my Silverlight App without communication to the server side... I see a following approach: create a separate interface; add it to "base classes" for my RiaService; define each autogenerated RIA-method in this interface; insert dependency so that my "functionality" will depend not from the RiaService, but from the interface that is implemented with RiaService. But for this case I see a problem: how to keep my interface in the auto-generated files? ANy thoughts are welcome.

  Im trying to decode a json string returned from flickr within my PHP code. Im using CURL but it keeps returning a string even when I wrap json_decode() around the json sring variable. • Access DotNetPanel/WebsitePanel Enterprise Server from outside the loopback address

  Hi Peoples, I am currently investigating integration of DotNetPanel/WebsitePanel with a website that is running ColdFusion. The issue I have come across is that it seems WebsitePanel only allows access to the Enterprise Server (where the web services are that I need access to) when the request is coming from the same physical machine (i.e. on the loop-back address 127.0.0.1). This unfortunately doesnt really work out too well with our current setup as we have our ColdFusion server running on one machine and WebsitePanel running on another. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how we can change this? Currently we are investigating writing a transparent proxy server that will sit on the portal machine and pass requests between the two sites, but that is less than ideal.

  I am integrating our back end systems with Salesforce using the web services. I have production and stage environments running on different URLs. I need to be able to have the endpoint of the web service call be different depending on whether the code is running in the production or sandbox Salesforce instance. How do I detect the environment. Currently I am considering looking up a user to see if there user name ends in 'devsandbox' as I have been unable to identify a system object that I can query to get the environment. Further clarification: The location I need to determine this is within the Apex code that is invoked when I select a button in Salesforce. My custom controller needs to know if it running in the production or sandbox Salesforce environment.

• Do you have a development IDE hotkey set in AutoHotkey?

  I've recently rejoined the AutoHotkey band wagon, and I've been setting up a master script for myself. Generally, I have a few global hotkeys, for doing things like popping open the calculator, and frequently used solutions. I even have a hotkey to restart certain local windows services, I've also got several contextual hotkeys that are only available when certain programs are active, but I don't have anything so far for my common IDE's. I generally develop in VS2008/2010 these days and they have a pretty robust shortcut and code snippet system. Still, I can't help but wonder if anyone out there has come up with a useful set of hotkeys/hotstrings in AutoHotKey for their favorite development environments? I haven't seen much out there, but I'm always interested in ways to cut back my mundane tasks with automation. Does anyone have any AutoHotkey scripts they use primarily for development?

• JAX-WS with JAXB tutorial

  I'm getting started in developing web services using JAX-WS. I'm trying to implement classes I can send between my service and client using JAXB, but having trouble getting it to work. I've tried following the example at this site but cannot seem to get it to work. After following the instructions, the test page that's displayed doesn't have any way of defining the Die objects as is suggested by the article. All of this is very new to me, so I'm really not sure where to go. I've checked the WSDL file linked from the test page, and my best guess is that the JAXB is not working properly as I don't see the Die class or its properties mentioned anywhere. A good, fully worked example would be very beneficial. Does anyone know where one can be found? If it's any help, I'm working in Netbeans. Thanks!

• Windows 7 The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible 0xc000000f

  I have a problem with my Windows 7, hardware : Acer 3820TG Operating Systems : Windows 7 and Ubuntu 10.04 dual Case: When I try to boot my windows 7 I see an error: "Window failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem: 1.Insert.... 2. .... ... status : 0xc000000f info : The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible .... " I can't exactly remember what were my last actions on Windows. I already searched this error and applied the proposed solutions, I created a repair USB (because I don't have a CD-ROM nor a Windows 7 CD) such as; -repair operating system :it says it cannot repair it -checking disk (chkdsk D: /f /r) : it checks the disk without a problem or error and it takes pretty long (more than a hour). But when I restart, still the same error. -I didn't create a restore point so I pass this option -I don't have a system image -I tried to run windows recovery (I have a recovery partition) but there are just two options: 1- Format the operating system but retain user data (copies the files under users to c\backup folder, but when I searched deeper I found that there are some people who already tried this option and couldn't find their user files under backup directory). Plus, I have unfortunately just one partition D (it is a fault I know) because I use always Ubuntu. So this is not applicable in my situation 2- Format entire system (Windows). I keep my valuable data in windows but not in user folder. I was reaching them from Windows. -I tried to repair windows boot by: bootrec /fixMBR bootrec /fixBoot bootrec /rebuildBCD I lost all grub menu, and reinstalled it. - ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1014708&page=29 nothing changed, same error. I created a thread in microsoft forums - http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7install/thread/69517faf-850a-45fd- 8195-6d4ed831f805 but I couldn't find a solution. Before I run chkdsk from usb repair disk I couldn't able to mount Windows (NTFS) partition from Ubuntu, I was getting "couldn't mount file system, error code 2". I tried to fix ntfs partition from ubuntu and got "segmentation fault". I also created a thread on ubuntuforums for this mount problem: - http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1606427 So, after chkdsk, I could enable to mount windows partition but all I see in this partition is chkdsk logs, no any other data. Now, I don't think I lost my data because I don't get any filesystem errors, just the boot section, but this log files under windows partition makes me afraid. I see that Microsoft developers don't have a solution yet for this error. If you need any information to get more idea I can give, maybe I miss some points or it could be complicated.   Hello everyone, I am using VSTS 2008 + .Net 3.5 + C#. And I developed a custom Forms authentication module for IIS 7.0 and I attach to w3wp.exe to debug this module. During the attach process (I just select Tools - Attach to Process, no further operation performed on the computer I am debugging -- I just wait for the attach to be completed), I met with the following error, any ideas what is wrong? The web server process that was being debugged has been terminated by Internet Information Services (IIS). This can be avoided by configuring Application Pool ping settings in IIS. • EC2 instance suddenly refusing SSH connections and won't respond to ping

  My instance was running fine and this morning I was able to access a Ruby on Rails app hosted on it. An hour later I suddenly wasn't able to access my site, my SSH connection attempts were refused and the server wasn't even responding to ping. I didn't change anything on my system during that hour and reboots aren't fixing it. I've never had any problems connecting or pinging the system before. Can someone please help?   All, I'm a little new to WCF over IIS but have done some ASMX web services before. My WCF service is up and running but the helper page generated by the web service for me has the default names, i.e. the page that says: You have created a service. To test this service, you will need to create a client and use it to call the service. You can do this using the svcutil.exe tool from the command line with the following syntax: svcutil.exe http://localhost:53456/ServicesHost.svc?wsdl In a standard ASMX site I would use method/class attributes to give the web service a name and a namespace. When I click on the link the WSDL has: <wsdl:definitions name="SearchServices" targetNamespace="http://tempuri.org/" i.e. not the WCF Service Contract Name and Namespace from my Interface. I assume the MEX is using some kind of default settings but I'd like to change them to be the correct names. How can I do this?

  When designing an distributed application in Java there seams to be a few technologies that address the same kind of problem. I have briefly read about Java Remote Method Invocation and Java Message Service, but it is hard to really see the difference. Java RMI seams to be more tightly coupled than JMS because JMS use asynchronous communication, but otherwise I don't see any big differences. What is the difference between them? Is one of them newer than the other one? Which one is more common/popular in enterprises? What advantages do they have over eachother? When is one preferred over the other? Do they differ much in how difficult they are to implement? I also think that Web Services and CORBA address the same problem.

For example. I have a database that has orders and customers. An order has one and only one customer and a customer can have many orders. How can I setup external content types in such a way that when in the list view of these external content types, I can jump between and possible lookup values to that other type?

  I have just scraped a bunch of Google Buzz data, and I want to know which Buzz posts reference the same news articles. The problem is that many of the links in these posts have been modified by URL shorteners, so it could be the case that many distinct shortened URLs actually all point to the same news article. Given that I have millions of posts, what is the most efficient way (preferably in python) for me to detect whether a url is a shortened URL (from any of the many URL shortening services, or at least the largest) Find the "destination" of the shortened url, i.e., the long, original version of the shortened URL. Does anyone know if the URL shorteners impose strict request rate limits? If I keep this down to 100/second (all coming form the same IP address), do you think I'll run into trouble?

  Our "main" solution is the development code: shared libraries, services, UI projects, etc. The other solution is an integration and automated tests solution. It references several of the development projects. The reason it is separate is to avoid interference with the development solution's unit test VSMDI file. And to allow us to play with different execution methods (other test runners, like Gallio or StoryTeller) without interfering with the development solution. Recently, an interface changed in the development solution, one of our test mocks implemented that interface. But, it was not updated because there was no warning at compile time because it was in another solution. This broke our CI build. Does anyone have a similar setup? How do you handle these issues, do you follow a strict procedure or is there some kind of technical answer?

One way is to split the functionality into a collection of WAR, deploy all of them on one application server and have them communicate with internal webservices. This has some overhead, especially if the messages are large, and you might run into performance problems due to thread count restrictions and so forth. Another way would be to put everything into a giant WAR, such that you can communicate directly. Not exactly modularization. What would you do?

  I have two services, one that calls another. Both are marked as singletons as follows: [ServiceBehavior(InstanceContextMode = InstanceContextMode.Single, ConcurrencyMode = ConcurrencyMode.Multiple)] public class Service : IService And I set these up with a ServiceHost as follows: ServiceHost serviceHost = new ServiceHost(singletonElement); serviceHost.Open(); When the parent service tries to call the child service on the same machine, the parent service hangs, waiting for the child service. I'm already considering moving away from the singleton model, but is there anything wrong with my approach? Is there an explanation for this behavior and a way out of it?
