Properties in User-Control Ctor are duplicated to the hosting form

An annoying behavior of Visual Studio (2008)'s designer is to duplicate any property of a control, which is set inside the control's constructor code to the InitializeComponent() method of the hosting form. For example, if I create a new user control and write the following line in its Ctor: this.Text = "Hard Coded Name"; then this same line will appear inside the InitializeComponent() method of any form hosting this control. As long as it's about this kind of properties, it's only annoying because if I were to change the Text property inside the control to: "Better Hard Coded Name", I'd have to go over all hosting controls and manually change the Text value over there too. The real problem is with ".Add(something)" properties - like if my control is a TableLayoutPanel and I want it to have a certain number of columns and rows. Any col or row style set inside the user control will be duplicated in the hosting form and we end up with having twice as wanted. The count (e.g. ColumnCount) will be as planned but if I were to add cols later on, things will get messy. Is there a way to signal VS's designer not to duplicate properties? What can I do to avoid this behavior?

How do I prevent a <td> from being too high?

It must be something stupid, but I can't figure it out so far... Good Day, I have a small form with a combo box (ASP.NET Drop Down List control) and a text box (with a DIV id txtName). When the selected index of the combo box changes, I want to clear out the text box. I understand that: $("#txtName").val(''); clears the text box value The thing is the combo box. It contains a list of integers representing the months of the year. The drop down control is called ddlMonths. $("#ddlMonths").change(function() { $("#txtName").val(''); }); I thought by using change, an onSelectedIndexChange event handler would be associated with this control. I also tried (because I've ran into the client id being mangled in ASP.NET w/ jQuery) this: $("#<%=ddlMonths.ClientID%>").change(function() { $("#<%=txtName.ClientID%>").val(''); }); and neither approach seems to be working. CSS working in IE, but not FF

However, the headerRow isn't working in FF, yet works well in IE. Problem with running totals in jquery

I'm having an issue trying to get an accurate running total for my calculations. When you enter numbers into the input field I get an accurate total for that line item, but the grand total comes out to a higher number. Note that this is a dynamic form and that the id's will change depending on how many form fields I have added to the form. Also, I have it set to make the calculations onKeyUp for each input field instead of a calculate button. The code that calculates a single item is this: function calcLineItem(id) { var id = $(id).attr("id"); var Item1 = $("#Item1" + id).val(); var Item2 = $("#Item2" + id).val(); var Item3 = $("#Item3" + id).val(); function calcTotal(Item1, Item2, Item3){ var total; total = Math.round((Item1 * Item2) * Item3); return total; } $("#total" + id).text(calcTotal(Item1, Item2, Item3)); calcAllFields(); } This will give me the total of this particular input field. Any ideas on how to avoid this from happening?

I have a layout roughly as follows: <div id="foo">  </div> <div id="thumbnails"> <div class="thumb-content1"></div> <div class="thumb-content2"></div> <div class="thumb-content3"></div> </div> <div id="content-1">  </div> <div id="content-2">  </div> <div id="content-3">  </div> etc .... On page load I want to show 'foo' and 'thumbnails' and hide the three content divs. As the user clicks each thumbnail, I want to hide foo, and replace it with the matching 'content-x'. I can get my head round jQuery show, hide and replace (although, bonus points if you want to include that in your example!). But how would I extract and construct the appropriate content id, from the thumbnail class, then pass it to the show hide code?

CSS: how to move element from one column to another one without changing the html ?

hi, I'm using css to edit the content of a page (NB. I cannot edit html code). I have 2 columns div1, div2. Each columns have several children (containing text). If the block has 2 or more lines of text all successive content is automatically moved down. I need to move a chidlren from the first column to the second one, in the middle. I was considering to use absolute positioning but then I realize how children are not anymore moving down as the number of text lines increases. I have some markup that looks like this: <div id="blah"> <div class="level2"> <input type="text" /> </div> <div class="levelA"> <div class="level2"> <input type="text" value="foo"/> </div> </div> </div> <input type="text" value="bar" /> I want for the 3 inputs to say Hello Foo Bar so I have this line of jquery: $('#blah .level2 input').val('hello'); the problem now is that jquery is a bit too liberal in it's pattern matches and matches both the first and second. Show my website's content on other websites. Is iframe only option?

In my project, I have created a code snippet which can be copied and then put in any website. It shows my content on other websites. What I am using now is : <script type='text/javascript'> var user = 'abc'; var age = '23'; document.write('<iframe src="http://www.mysite.com/page.php?user='+ user + '&age=' + age + '" ></iframe'); </script> In page.php, I do some processing based on user and age and show dynamic content. My approach works fine. But when I look into some good standard ways to do such tasks, I find a different way. Take an example of google adsense code. <script type='text/javascript'> var a = 'somedata'; var b = 'someotherdata'; </script> <script type='text/javascript' src='http://www.google.com/adsenseurl.js'></script> I guess, since a and b are global; adsenseurl.js must be using it and may be finally they are showing it on iframe. So, now the question. What's the advantage in using google's approach and whats wrong in my approach ? p.s. I know I should try to avoid using iframes but I dont see any other way to accomplish this.

How would I fix this so the the span tag or any other selected HTML isn't stripped out of the alert message?

This is my regex for my JTextField to not be longer than x characters and to not include anything other than letters or spaces. For some reason it is allowing [ ] and \ characters. This is driving me crazy. Creating a dictionary with list of lists in Python

I have a huge file (with around 200k inputs). The inputs are in the form: A B C D B E F C A B D D I am reading this file and storing it in a list as follows: text = f.read().split('\n') This splits the file whenever it sees a new line. Hence text is like follows: [[A B C D] [B E F] [C A B D] [D]] I have to now store these values in a dictionary where the key values are the first element from each list. i.e the keys will be A, B, C, D. I am finding it difficult to enter the values as the remaining elements of the list. i.e the dictionary should look like: {A: B C D; B: E F; C: A B D; D: 0} I have done the following: inlinkDict = {} for doc in text: adoc= doc.split(' ') docid = adoc[0] inlinkDict[docid] = inlinkDict.get(docid,0) + {I do not understand what to put in here} Please help as to how should i add the values to my dictionary. It should be 0 if there are no elements in the list except for the one which will be the key value. Like in example for 0.
