  • DataContractSerializer and XSLT

    I've got a simple Employee class that I'm trying to serialize to an XDocument and then use XSLT to transform the document to a page that displays both the properties (Name and ID) from the Employee class, and an html form with 2 radio buttons (Approve and Reject) and a submit button. I saw a separate StackOverflow post that said I need to change the <xsl:template match="/"> to match on the namespace of my Employee class like this: <xsl:template match="/XSLT_MVC.Controllers">, but when I do that, now all I get are the Employee properties, and not the html form with the 2 radio buttons and the submit button. Does anyone know what needs to be done so that my transform will select and display both the Employee properties and the html form?

  • Ruby get inheriting class

    I'm working on creating my first plugin for rails. I'm still pretty new to ruby and I was wondering if its possible to get the inheriting class? For example, I'm trying to create a plugin that will allow unit testing and functional testing when you are not using migrations. What I'm trying to do is initialize a class variable named controller to be initialized to the type of controller that is being tested. If I have a base class ControllerTest: class ControllerTest < Test::Unit::TestCase attr_accessor :controller def initialize super @controller = "call function that will find the inheriting classes name and create an instance of that controller type." end end So what I'm currently stuck on is getting the name of the inheriting class. Is this possible? And if not, does anyone know another way on how I could go about implementing this? Thanks in advance.

This is in the head of a HTML document.) I've been looking at some HTML recently and I've noticed this a few times (all on the one site). I can't think of any reasons why you would do it like this, but I can hardly claim to be a web developer. It's likely that these lines of code are automatically generated, but still, someone somewhere must have thought this was a good idea.

    Hello, I have been struggling with getting the versionName for a running application from the PackageInfo Object type. I have constructed a Parcelable Interface with all of the fields associated with the PackageInfo Object type. The primary input for that interface method is a Parcel object. I cannot seem to figure out how to correctly associate these Parcelable, Parcel, and PackageInfo objects. Is there any sample code out there that I can look at? Doesn't seem like it should be that difficult but it seems to be stumping me. Thanks Jazz

    Hello. I'm trying to show a map using postGIS+Mapserver.And I've displayed a PNG picture in my WEB. However, I want to show some charactors in the map, just like this: this is the example from Mapserver Now I'm using database(postgreSQL), but not a shape file. How can I add the charactors then?     Looking for your recommendations for a free temperature-monitoring utility, for my PC (Core 2) and graphics card for Vista. (Question reposted with the hyperlinks now I have 10 reputation). I don't want all the geeky details, I don't overclock, I don't see the need to mess with my fan speeds or motherboard settings, I just want something fairly basic to help with basic troubleshooting of intermittent overheats on video card and/or mobo: must run on Windows Vista (yes, don't laugh). ideally displays temperature when minimized to toolbar, and/or: automatically alerts me when temperature on either core or the video card exceeds a threshold ideally measures temperature of video card and system as well, not just the cores. HDD temperature is not necessary I think. logging is nice, graphs are also nice portability to Linux and Mac is nice Apparently Everest is the best paid option, but I'm not prepared to spend $40. I found the following free options, but no head-to-head at-a-glance comparison: CoreTemp (only does cores, not video card?) Open Hardware Monitor (nice graphs, displays when minimized to toolbar, no alerts) RealTemp (has alerts, works minimized, lightweight install) HWMonitor (no alerts, CNET: "[free version is] simple but effective") from CPUID CPUCool (not free: 21-day trialware, then $18) SpeedFan from Almico (too geeky, detail overload; CNET: "most users won't be able to make head or tail of the data this utility provides") Motherboard Monitor (CNET: not recommended, requires expert knowledge of your mobo, dangerous) Intel Thermal Analysis Tool (only does cores, not video card? has logging) Useful discussions I found: hardwarecanucks.com , superuser.com 1, 2 , forums.techarena.in (Update: I downloaded Real Temp 3.60 and it meets all my needs, the customizable alert temperature is great. Open Hardware Monitor seems to be the other one that mostly meets my needs, except no alerts; but it is portable. I tried SpeedFan but the interface is very cluttered, too much unnecessary detail (needs a Basic/Advanced mode and a revamp of the interface.) The answer to my underlying issue is nVidia Geforce LE 7500 video card which runs very hot.)

  • MVC Partial View Not Refreshing when using JSON data

    I have a dropdown that I'm using to refresh a div with checkboxes. I am trying to figure out why my view is not refreshing if I pass in data in JSON format. If I pass in just a regular string, the view refreshes. If I pass in JSON data, the view does not refresh. If I step through the code in the Partial view, I can see the correct number of records are being passed in, however the view doesn't get refreshed with the correct number of checkboxes. I tried to add some cache directives, it didn't work.   • Why won't this SQL CAST work?

    I have a nvarchar(50) column in a SQL Server 2000 table defined as follows: TaskID nvarchar(50) NULL I need to fill this column with some random SQL Unique Identifiers (I am unable to change the column type to uniqueidentifier). I tried this: UPDATE TaskData SET TaskID = CAST(NEWID() AS nvarchar) but I got the following error: Msg 8115, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Arithmetic overflow error converting expression to data type nvarchar. I also tried: UPDATE TaskData SET TaskID = CAST(NEWID() AS nvarchar(50)) but then got this error: Msg 8152, Level 16, State 6, Line 1 String or binary data would be truncated. I don't understand why this doesn't work but this does: DECLARE @TaskID nvarchar(50) SET @TaskID = CAST(NEW() AS nvarchar(50)) I also tried CONVERT(nvarchar, NEWID()) and CONVERT(nvarchar(50), NEWID()) but got the same errors.

When I export the sql from the sqlite database it created, created_at is defined as type "timestamp" and the values look like: 290902422.72624 Nine digits before the . and then some fraction. What is this format? It's not epoch time and it's not julianday format. Epoch would be: 1269280338.81213 julianday would be: 2455278.236746875 (notice only 7 digits before the . not 9 like I have) How can I convert a number like 290902422.72624 to epoch time? Thanks!

    I can perfectly call a WCF web method from localhost. The problem is when a try to access it from another computer. I get the 405: Method Not Allowed. But It doest make sense because It works fine when i access it remotely from the publisher computer as I said. Any idea?     When creating JNDI JDBC connection pools in an application server, I always specified the type as javax.sql.ConnectionPoolDataSource. I never really gave it too much thought as it always seemed natural to prefer pooled connections over non-pooled. However, in looking at some examples (specifically for Tomcat) I noticed that they specify javax.sql.DataSource. Further, it seems there are settings for maxIdle and maxWait giving the impression that these connections are pooled as well. Glassfish also allows these parameters regardless of the type of data source selected. Are javax.sql.DataSource pooled in an application server (or servlet container)? What (if any) advantages are there for choosing javax.sql.ConnectionPoolDataSource over javax.sql.DataSource (or vice versa)?

    Hey, I have a CentOS VPS running Apache with a phpBB installation. One specific user has received errors when posting a message or logging in to the forum. The following issue has arisen in parallel to installing nginx, which serves only the static files of my site. Not sure if this is only coincidence. Furthermore, my setup uses redirects (in some cases, double-redirects) to point the user to a different virtual folder. So, the forum is seen to be at /translation/ but the actual files are found in /phpbb/. I'm at a loss as to what may be the underlying issue. My server? The person's ISP? She has tested both at home and at work, with similar issues.   • Enterprise class storage best practices

    One thing that has always perplexed me is storage best practices. Filesystems brag about how they can be petabytes or exabytes in size. Yet, I do not know many sysadmins who are willing to let a single volume grow over several terrabytes. I do know the primary reason behind this is how long it would take to rebuild the array should a drive fail. The more drives in a single LUN, the longer this takes and the greater your risk of losing another drive while the rebuild is taking place. Then there's usage reasons. Admins will carve out a LUN based on how much space they think needs to be allocated to the project. It seems more practical to me for the LUN to be one large array and to use quotas. I understand this wouldn't satisfy every requirement (iSCSI), but I see a lot of NAS systems (NFS) managed this way. I also understand that the underlying volumes can be grown/shrunk as needed quite easily, but wouldn't it be less "risky" to use quotas rather than manipulating volumes and bringing possible data loss into the equation? There may be some other reasons I'm missing, so please enlighten me. Can we not expect filesystems to ever be so large? Are we waiting for the hardware to get faster to cut down on rebuild times?

  • Selecting an item from a very large list

    Suppose I have a list of a couple of thousand organizations and a user needs to be able to select one of them. The list is too large to populate in a dropdown at page load, and the user often knows what they want but it's not the first part of the organization name. That is, they know "Collections" but not that the precise name of the organization is "Department of Collections". So the user will need/want to type in some information. It's easy enough to use an autocompleting textbox of some kind, but I don't want to allow the user to type in random text - they have to choose one of the organizations explicitly. What's the best solution?

  • rsync over ssh is not working anymore, while ssh itself is working fine (Write failed: broken pipe)

    This issue started happening after i changed router. This is the scenario: Windows7 Host Ubuntu 10.04 Guest (VirtualBox) Ubuntu 10.04 remote server What i used to do is run a very basic rsync command: rsync -avz --delete /local/path/ username@host:/path/to/remote/directory This worked perfect until i did change adsl provider, and i changed router aswell: now, this happens: rsync on Ubuntu Guest is not working anymore (to any random server), if using this new router rsync on Ubuntu Guest is WORKING, if i switch back to old router i tried a new virtual box ubuntu install, and the command is WORKING with both the routers So, the not-working-combo is oldUbuntu + newRouter. To get things worst, i can state that (on the not-working ubuntu) i ping the remote host plain ssh connection to the remote host is working fine (i can auth, connect, and do stuff on the remote host) The old input for text looks like this: <input type="text" value="Search this website..." name="s" id="searchbox" onfocus="if (this.value == 'Search this website...') {this.value = '';}" onblur="if (this.value == '') {this.value = 'Search this website...';}" /> Now I need to Have the attr 'name' as 'q', like so: <input type="text" value="Search this website..." name="q" id="searchbox" onfocus="if (this.value == 'Search this website...') {this.value = '';}" onblur="if (this.value == '') {this.value = 'Search this website...';}" /> The odd thing is that when I swap the name over to q, I'm unable to clear the search box on focus. Am I missing something super easy?

  • Mapping one to one foreign key relationships in Entity Framework 4.0?

    Hello all, I'm sure I'm missing something very simple, but let's say I have two entities, Employee and EmployeeType. Employee type would contain values like 'Full time', 'Contractor', 'Intern', etc. An Employee entity would contain one, and only one EmployeeType value. So I am designing a new .edmx model using the Model-First approach and generating my actual sql server data schema from the model. I want to add an integer type foreign key id into my Employee entity, EmployeeTypeId, which will map to the primary key of the EmployeeType entity. So I've gone ahead and done that in my Employee entity. Where I'm stuck is how, though the Entity Framework designer, to enforce the 1:1 referential constraint on that EmployeeTypeId property? Or does the EF handle that automatically behind the scenes? thanks in advance, John
