  • Getting specific values with regex

    - by David
I need to knowingly isolate each row of the vCard and get its value. For instance, I want to get "5555" from X-CUSTOMFIELD. So far, my thoughts are: "X-CUSTOMFIELD;\d+" I have been looking at some tutorials and I am a little confused with what function to use? What would my regex above return? Would it give me the whole line or just the numerical part (5555)? I was thinking I i get the whole row, I can use substring to get the digits? BEGIN:VCARD VERSION:2.1 N:Last;First; FN:First Last TEL;HOME;VOICE:111111 TEL;MOBILE;VOICE:222222 X-CUSTOMFIELD;5555 END:VCARD

  • re-open background application via notification item

    - by user356764
I got an app with tabs and a notification bar entry, when I send it to background (click on home button) and try to re-open the application via click on the notification bar, the app restarts (last selected tab is lost). When I hold the home button if the application is in the background and select it from there or click the app's icon on the homescreen, the previous state is restored per default (the correct tab is selected) IMO the intent of the notification is wrong, but I'm not sure how to fix it. In short: How to get a background application back to foreground when I click the notification entry? thx!

  • How to get ListView to grow to the size of content

    - by Jared
So I have a fairly complex activity the parent being a linearlayout with a table with some basic info and buttons. Then a couple listviews that the user can add items to. So these listviews grow more and more as the user uses the app. The problem I'm running into is the Linearlayout is bigger then the resolution of the screen and so it needs to scroll. So the scrolling doesn't work on the Listviews. I've tried playing with changing the layout_height of the listview and its child element with no success. Is there a way to make these couple listviews expand out to the amount of children? Or am I going about this all wrong? If so what other controls can I use? I'm open to any ideas. I really just don't know how to go about this. Thanks

  • Passing arguments from loading activity to main activity

    - by ZelluX
I'm writing an application that starts with a loading activity. In the loading activity the app requests html from web and parses the html, then it sends the parsing result to the main activity. The main activity has several tabs, and contents of these tabs are based on the result of parsing. For example, the result of parsing is a list of strings ["apple", "banana", "orange"], and I need to pass this list to main activity, so that the main activity can create three tabs named after three fruits. I would like to know if there is any way to pass a list of strings among activities, BTW, is it the common way of do this? Many thanks.

I'm trying to set the background color of a View (in this case a Button). I use this code: // set the background to green v.setBackgroundColor(0x0000FF00 ); v.invalidate(); It causes the Button to disappear from the screen. What am I doing wrong, and what is the correct way to change the background color on any View? Thanks.

  • I need to recover an instance of an activity

    - by Bilthon
Well.. the title is pretty descriptive, I have a bunch of tab activities (which I implemented myself, didn't want to use the tabviews with activities inside them), so It's basically 5 activities calling each other every time the user clicks on the tabs displayed as a row of LinearLayouts at the bottom of the screen. The thing is that the way I do it now, everytime the user jumps from one activity to another, a new activity is created and launched. Of course, I can see I'm wasting resources this way. So what I would like to do is to create every activity only once; and then if the user wants to go back to the previous (or any one that was already created and is probably paused) just check on some kind of list or array to see if the activity can be recovered and only in the case it can't; to lauch a new one. My question is, how can I check this? should I save the intents? and how to recover the activities afterwards? I'm kind of new with java. Greetings Nelson R. Perez

  • Efficiently using position to control actions

    - by John Ashmore
I want to use position (returned from a gridview for e.g.) or a similar numeric integer to do various things, e.g. create a sprite, or in any command that wants something other than a number, e.g. I want to use something like: sprites.add(createSprite(R.drawable.image(position)); , where createSprite creates a sprite using the image supplied, instead of: if (position == 1) {sprites.add(createSprite(R.drawable.image1);} if (position == 2) {sprites.add(createSprite(R.drawable.image2);} ...etc There is an easy solution for strings: Most efficient method to use position to open a .java but what about for situations like this one?

  • What could possibly be causing this NPE in onCreate?

    - by Adam Johns
I am getting an NPE in onCreate of the following file (MySubActivity): public class MySubActivity extends MySuperActivity { @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); myTextView.setText(getResources().getString(R.string.myString)); } } MySuperActivity: public class MySuperActivity extends Activity { protected TextView myTextView; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.my_layout); myTextView = (TextView)findViewById(R.id.myTextViewid); } } The strange thing is that I have never seen this crash while testing the app. The page works fine when I test it. However I got a crash report from Google notifying me of the crash. I cannot reproduce it, and I have no idea under what scenario this crash could happen. Seeing as how it works for me, the resource ids and string names etc. must be correct. The only thing that came across my mind was that maybe the user had their phone set to a different language, so it couldn't properly pull the resources. However, there are default resources for all of them, and I tested changing the language of my emulator and it didn't crash. Any ideas?

  • How do I insert this subclass into my code?

    - by BamsBamx
This is a very noob question so I hope you can help me with this... This is my built code: public class PantallaOpciones extends PreferenceActivity { private SharedPreferences preferences; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { preferences = PreferenceManager.getDefaultSharedPreferences(this); findPreference("speechkeycode").setOnPreferenceClickListener(keycodedialog); Preference.OnPreferenceClickListener keycodedialog = new Preference.OnPreferenceClickListener(){ public boolean onPreferenceClick(Preference preference){ keycodedialog(); return false; }}; } private void keycodedialog(){ final Dialog dialog = new Dialog(this); dialog.setContentView(R.layout.keycodedialog); dialog.setTitle("Speech keycode"); final TextView keypresstext = (TextView) findViewById(R.id.keypresstext); Button savekeycode = (Button) dialog.findViewById(R.id.btnsavekeycode); savekeycode.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { dialog.dismiss(); } }); Button resetkeycode = (Button) dialog.findViewById(R.id.btnresetvalue); resetkeycode.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { public void onClick(View v) { dialog.dismiss(); } }); dialog.show(); } Okay, now I want to add this code to dialog: public boolean onKeyDown(int keyCode, KeyEvent event) { //SOME STUFF return super.onKeyDown(keyCode, event); } So I want to listen to a keypress when dialog is opened and show the keycode of hardware press by using textview.settext()... The question is: how do I insert public boolean onKeyDown into the dialog??? Thanks in advance!! :)

  • Play playlist with MediaPlayer

    - by Kaloer
    Hi, I'm trying to play a playlist I get using the MediaStore provider. However, when I try playing a playlist nothing happens. Can a MediaPlayer play a playlist (m3u file) and do I need to set the first track to play ? This is my test code in the onCreate() method: Uri uri = MediaStore.Audio.Playlists.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI; if(uri == null) { Log.e("Uri = null"); } String[] projection = new String[] { MediaStore.Audio.Playlists._ID, MediaStore.Audio.Playlists.NAME, MediaStore.Audio.Playlists.DATA }; Cursor c = managedQuery(uri, projection, null, null, null); if(c == null) { Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), R.string.alarm_tone_picker_error, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); return; } if(!c.moveToFirst()) { c.close(); Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), R.string.alarm_tone_picker_no_music, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); return; } c.moveToFirst(); try { MediaPlayer player = new MediaPlayer(); player.setDataSource(c.getString(2)); player.start(); } catch(Exception e) { e.printStackTrace(); } I have turned on every volume stream. Thanks you, Kaloer

  • menuitem id in xml format can't be an integer? huh. really?

    - by misbell
ok, in menu.add, you add an integer menuitem id. But when you specify the menu in xml, @+id can't take an integer, so you can't test the id for the menu item as an integer in a switch statement. What obvious thing am I missing, because surely an inconsistency this bone-stupid couldn't have passed muster with all those wonderful geniuses at Google. on top of that, when I give the menu item a name like "@+id/myMenuItem", item.getItemId() returns an integer, a long one, which I guess is a representation of the hex pointer. • Correct way to add objects to an ArrayList

    - by ninjasense
I am trying to add an object to an arraylist but when I view the results of the array list, it keeps adding the same object over and over to the arraylist. I was wondering what the correct way to implement this would be. public static ArrayList<Person> parsePeople(String responseData) { ArrayList<Person> People = new ArrayList<Person>(); try { JSONArray jsonPeople = new JSONArray(responseData); if (!jsonPeople.isNull(0)) { for (int i = 0; i < jsonPeople.length(); i++) { Person.add(new Person(jsonPeople.getJSONObject(i))); } } } catch (JSONException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } catch (Exception e) { } return People; } I have double checked my JSONArray data and made sure they are not duplicates. It seems to keep adding the first object over and over.

  • AnimationDrawable, when does it end?

    - by Syb
I know there have been several people with the same question. Which is: How do i know when a frame by frame animation has ended? I have not had any useful answer on fora i visited. So i thought, let's see if they know at stackoverflow. But I could not sit still in the mean time, so i made a work around of this, but it does not really work the way i would like it to. here is the code: public class Main extends Activity { AnimationDrawable sybAnimation; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.main); ImageView imageView = (ImageView)findViewById(R.id.ImageView01); imageView.setBackgroundResource(R.anim.testanimation); sybAnimation = (AnimationDrawable) imageView.getBackground(); imageView.post(new Starter()); } class Starter implements Runnable { public void run() { sybAnimation.start(); long totalDuration = 0; for(int i = 0; i< sybAnimation.getNumberOfFrames();i++){ totalDuration += sybAnimation.getDuration(i); } Timer timer = new Timer(); timer.schedule(new AnimationFollowUpTimerTask(R.id.ImageView01, R.anim.testanimation_reverse),totalDuration); } } class AnimationFollowUpTimerTask extends TimerTask { private int id; private int animationToRunId; public AnimationFollowUpTimerTask(int idOfImageView, int animationXML){ id = idOfImageView; animationToRunId = animationXML; } @Override public void run() { ImageView imageView = (ImageView)findViewById(id); imageView.setBackgroundResource(animationToRunId); AnimationDrawable anim = (AnimationDrawable) imageView.getBackground(); anim.start(); } } basically I make a timertask which is scheduled with the same time as the animation to take. In that run() I want to load a new animation into the imageView and start that animation, this however does not work. Does anyone know how to get this to work, or even better, have a better way to find out when an AnimationDrawable has ended its animation?

  • How to represent a Many-To-Many relationship in XML or other simple file format?

    - by CSharperWithJava
I have a list management appliaction that stores its data in a many-to-many relationship database. I.E. A note can be in any number of lists, and a list can have any number of notes. I also can export this data to and XML file and import it in another instance of my app for sharing lists between users. However, this is based on a legacy system where the list to note relationship was one-to-many (ideal for XML). Now a note that is in multiple lists is esentially split into two identical rows in the DB and all relation between them is lost. Question: How can I represent this many-to-many relationship in a simple, standard file format? (Preferably XML to maintain backwards compatibility)
