• Replacement for Picasa [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: What is the best alternative to Picasa? I use Picasa not because it is a great photo manager -- it's not, the manager is "sort of OK" for my taste. However, it combines a passable photo manager with a good "quick and dirty" image editor. It has the basic functions like cropping, resizing, contrast and color adjustment, and the one great feature -- "I'm feeling lucky" button, that works in 90% of the cases. Also, from time to time, I use one or two of the effects (like saturation or sharpening). GIMP is great and I use it on a regular basis, but in most cases I just want to go quickly through the photographs of my kids birthday and make them more presentable without much fuss. I'm looking for a native, open source replacement, something that would not miss the editing capabilities of Picasa and would allow me to quickly go through a collection of photographs and make basic edits. A function similar to "I'm feeling lucky" (automatic adjustment of contrast, color and brightness) would be most welcome. EDIT: Yes, I have already tried a number of alternatives, if it is necessary I can produce a detailed list here, along with the problems I found. I'm posting that question because I hope to see a new name.

• How should VertexBuffers be used with Multiple Monitors in DirectX 9

  I am currently using DirectX 9 on a machine with two GPUs and three monitors. I am currently trying to draw a triangle on each monitor using vertexbuffers; A directx helloworld with multiple monitors if you will. I am familiar with some DirectX coding, but new to multiple monitor DirectX coding. I may be going about this the wrong way, so please do correct me if I'm doing something wrong. I have created a Direct3D Device for each enumerated adapter sharing the same Form handle. This allows me to successfully use all three monitors in full-screen mode. For Each Adapter In Direct3D.Adapters Dim PresentParameters As New PresentParameters 'Setup PresentParameters PresentParameters.Windowed = False PresentParameters.DeviceWindowHandle = MainForm.Handle Dim Device as New Device(Direct3D, Adapter.Adapter, DeviceType.Hardware, PresentParameters.DeviceWindowHandle, CreateFlags.HardwareVertexProcessing, PresentParameters) Device.SetRenderState(RenderState.Lighting, False) Devices.Add(Device) Next I can also draw text to each device successfully using a different Font for each Device.   My game has a collection of cards (about 64) that are unlocked (one by one) provided that 4 items are collected/gained in the game. Right now I have to include the data for the items collected by the user, but including that inside the plist looks like too much hassle. What kind of structure should be more suitable for this? How do you manage a collection of unlockable items like this?

• Calling a WCF service from another WCF service

  Hi ! I have a WCF service hosted on a windows service on my Server1. It also has IIS on this machine. I call the service from a web app and it works fine. But within this service, I have to call another WCF sevice (also hosted on a windows service) located on Server2. The security credentials are set to "Message" and "Username". I have an error like "SOAP protcol negociation failed". It's a problem with my server certificate public key that doesn't seem to be recognise. However, if I call the service on the Server2 from Server1 in a console app, it works fine.   I have to develop a customized tab control and decided to create it with WPF/XAML, because I planned to learn it anyway. It should look like this when it's finished: I made good progress so far, but there are two issues left: Only the first/last tab item should have a rounded upper-left/bottom-left corner. Is it possible to modify the style of these items, similar to the way I did with the selected tab item? The selected tab item should not have a border on its right side. I tried to accomplish this with z-index and overlapping, but the results were rather disappointing. Is there any other way to do this? I haven't succeeded in doing that yet. The problem is that jquery is hiding the normal selectbox and is replacing it with a list.   In #WPF you have ItemTemplateSelectors. But, can you also select an ItemContainerStyle based on the datatype of a bound object? I am databinding a scatterview. I want to set some properties of the generated ScatterViewItems based on the object in their DataContext. A mechanism similar to ItemTemplateSelector for styles would be great. Is that at all possible? I am now binding to properties in the objects that I am displaying to get the effect, but that feels like overhead and too complex (and most importantly, something that our XU designers can't do by themselves).   I'm having a problem accessing the contents of an XML document. My goal is this: Take an XML source and parse it into a fair equivalent of an associative array, then store it as a persistable object. the xml is pretty simple: <root> <element> <category_id>1</category_id> <name>Cars</name> </element> <element> <category_id>2</category_id> <name>Boats</name> </element> </root> Basic java class below. I'm pretty much just calling save(xml) after http response above.   I am a beginning iPhone SDK programmer. I built a simple practice application I am trying to use to learn more about table views. It's an app that loads football teams from a plist and displays them in a table view with their stadium name and logo. Tapping the team goes to a detail view for that team. I am trying to understand how to add sections to this, so that I might have a couple of teams in one section and others in another section, etc. I would assume I need to both re-structure my plist and change the code to read arrays from the different levels of the plist? To begin, I had a plist with the root array consisting of 3 dictionaries, one for each team. Each dictionary had 3 keys, "name" "stadium" and "logo". This works fine. I am loading it via: NSString *path = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:@"teams" ofType:@"plist"]; teams = [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithContentsOfFile:path]; and then // Configure the cell. • WPF: Updating visibility of controls not updating the screen

  I will preface this by stating that I am new to WPF programming and may be making multiple errors. Any insight that can be provided to help me improve in my skills are greatly appreciated. I am working with a WPF application and am looping through a list of objects that contain properties that describe a document that should be built on the fly and automatically printed. I am attempting to display a small grid in the interface that shows the document being built before it is printed. This serves two purposes: one, it allows the user to see work being done by the application. Two, it renders the items on the screen so that I can then have something to actually print since WPF appears to not be able to load an image for printing dynamicaly without displaying it on the screen. In my code, I am setting the various elements in the grid and setting the visibility to visible. However, the UI is not updating and the printed document doesn't look as intended since the image never shows up on the screen. Basically it builds a visual element for a page, prints an XPS version of it and then builds the next page and prints it, etc. Once all pages have been processed, the job is actually sent to the printer. The only purpose of this application is to let the user print these documents so there is not other task that they can do in the application while the documents print. I thought that putting this task in a background thread would help to update the UI but since I am trying to manipulate items directly on the UI thread it would appear that this option won't work for me. What am I doing wrong here and how can I improve the code so that I can get the behavior that I am trying to achieve?

• Simple show/hide jQuery troubles

  Okay, I feel like a bit of a 800 pound gorilla trying to thread a needle when it comes to jQuery. I need a script that will preform a simple show/hide (preferably with a nice sliding in and out) on a list. Ideally when the li they are nested within ("li.tier_1") is clicked it's child ul will have the hide class removed and the li's contained within will slideout, but at the same time should check all the other ul.tier_2's and be sure they get a hide class--so only one theme can be expanded at a time. But I based it off another script and it does work "a little bit" as you can see in the sandbox. If one of you mean hands at jQuery might be so inclined to take a peek I'd be very grateful. If you could also advise on how to have the transitions slideIn and Out that would also be fantastic!
