• Unable to setup ssh tunnel on mac

  On my office windows XP laptop I use a program called Bitvise Tunnelier to establish ssh tunnel to a in-house MySQL database. In the Tunnelier program I also need to provide address of corporate http proxy server in order to establish tunnel. On my personal mac laptop, I use Cisco Anywhere client to establish a VPN connection to my corporate network. But i'm unable to establish ssh tunnel to mysql database using ssh. How do I specify the proxy server address in the ssh command? As additional info when i'm using office laptop (whether in home or office) I can successfully ping to the server address specified in the Tunnelier program. But i cannot ping the same server using my mac machine (even after connecting via VPN). So basically i'm unable to understand what's going on and what steps i can take to debug this problem .

• esxi VM will not connect to virual switch

  I have a exsi box with a VM (Windows 2003) that will not connect to any of the switches. The switch shows the VM connected but I can not ping anything on the network. I have double checked the VM's IP. No dice. There are a ton of messages in the log: [DATE 'VmMisc' NNNNN warning] Failed to validate VM IP address: unknown Update: There are 3 other VMs. Each vSwitch has 56 ports. I can ping from one nic to the other. Each vSwitch shows that the new VM is connect. VMware ESX Server 3i V 3.5.9 Build 123629 Update 2: Out of the blue it just started working. I didn't change anything. I think it has something to do with RRAS.

• Drivers for NVIDIA 520M not working in Ubuntu 12.04

  I am aware that this is nominally a duplicate question, however I've read the other questions and haven't been able to resolve my problem after many hours and attempts, so please don't delete it. Additionally, it seems like many answers to the other questions are specifically dependent on certain situations. My situation being different from the others I found represented, here's my question. Until last night, I had Ubuntu 12.04 installed with Wubi, and it ran ok, though slowly and with occasional hangs. So I partitioned the drive and installed 12.04 in its own partition. Now when I start it, I am stuck using 2D. I believe this is an NVIDIA bug. My NVIDIA card is a GT 520M and my machine has Optimus. Additional Drivers only displays my wireless driver. Going to System Settings Details Graphics shows Driver:Unknown, Experience:Standard. I downloaded the driver from the NVIDIA website, and ran the installer with no errors, except that the "distribution-provided pre-install script failed". After rebooting, my screen was stuck at 640X480, which was fixed by editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf However, I still was stuck in 2D, and nothing else had changed either. A thread suggested something called Bumblebee. I tried that, and when I ran optirun firefoxI got a frozen blank screen. Following another suggestion, I checked the BIOS to try and disable Optimus. I found and ran myriad other commands to try and fix the problem and nothing changed. Now I have just done a clean re-install of Ubuntu. From there, I: Installed all the updates Downloaded the NVIDIA driver Installed it Got screen stuck at 640X480, fixed in xorg.conf. To recap the problem: I can't get the NVIDIA drivers working I am stuck using 2D I'm an idiot I think if the first one is solved, the solution to the second will naturally follow. If you need me to provide any other information, I'd be happy to. • OSX: DNS records won't change?

  I've had two sites on my local host and have had mysite1.local and mysite2.local in my /etc/hosts file to pointing in my localhost. Now, I moved those sites into my homeserver (Ubuntu, Local network) and made changes to hosts file + also in /private/etc/hosts is same. 192.168.0.50 mysite1.local 192.168.0.50 mysite2.local I flushed my dnscache sudo dscacheutil -flushcache rebooted machine, reseted safari but still no changes.. Still if I try to go either mysite1.local or mysite2.local it is pointing to localhost?!? What could be the problem?? OS is Snow Leopard 10.6.8

• Configure SQL Server to Allow Remote Connections

  Okay. This post isn’t about configuring SQL to allow remote connections, but wait, I still may be able to help you out. "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 – Could not open a connection to SQL Server)" I love this exception. It summarized the issue and leads you down a path to solving the problem.  I do wish the bit about allowing remote connections was left out of the message though. I can’t think of a time when having remote connections disabled caused me grief.  Heck, I can’t ever remember how to enable remote connections unless I Google for the answer. Anyway, 9 out of 10 times, SQL Server simply isn’t running.  That’s why the exception occurs.  The next time this exception pops up, open up the services console and make sure SQL Server is started.  And if that’s not the problem, only then start digging into the other possible reasons for the failure.

• Unable to remove broken Exchange 2003 installation (SBS 2003)

  We have a non-functional Exchange 2003 installation on our SBS 2003 server that I am trying to uninstall. So far we have never used, and will never use, Exchange on this server- all we need is to remove it from the system (as it is installed on a partition which we want to merge with the main data partition to increase network storage capacity). Attempting to remove it using Add/Remove Programs produces the following error: When doing a search in ADUC to see which users still have a mailbox associated with them, it seems to only be the domain administrator account: As the Exchange installation is broken, it is not possible to run either System Manager or Exchange 5.5 Administrator to make mailbox changes. How can I forcibly remove a mailbox (which does not need to be salvaged or backed up), to allow the uninstall of Exchange to proceed? Any ideas would be appreciated!

  Last week was a busy week for the UPK and Tutor teams at Oracle. It started with the the Collaborate Conference in Las Vegas and ended with our first UPK and Tutor Customer Advisory Board (CAB) meeting at Oracle HQ. The Collaborate Conference is a yearly event sponsored by three of the largest Oracle User Groups. • Oracle Applications User Group (OAUG) • Independent Oracle User Group (IOUG) • Quest - International User Group The User Groups are completely user run organizations with Oracle participation. If you've never attended a conference, time to start planning for the 2011 event in Orlando! If that's out of your reach, there are many regional and industry user groups that meet on a regular basis. They offer a great way to get involved, network with other users, and increase your knowledge around the Oracle applications. For a list of groups near you, check out the Oracle User Group Center. I'll add that the biggest meeting of Oracle users is at the Oracle Open World Conference in San Francisco in September, where we will have many UPK & Tutor focused development and customer sessions. More information on Oracle Open World will be forthcoming over the next few months. We hope to see many of you there! The CAB was a first for the UPK and Tutor team. Although we speak with customers regularly, this gave us an opportunity to meet in a more formal setting to discuss industry trends, business issues, and the direction of the products. Members serve a 2 year term and are required to attend 2 meetings per year, one in person, one via phone. We have some tweaking to do to our meeting format (most members wanted it to be longer!), but the overwhelming consensus was that it was a great success. There were many experiences and ideas shared and the wheels of the UPK and Tutor Development teams have been turning ever since. I'm sure you will see some of these discussions result in new product features over time. What a great week!

• display internet usage agreement before users can use internet

  I was looking for a way to display a usage agreement page in browsers that users must agree to before they are allowed to access the internet. This would be for users on public computers and public/open wifi. I'm using a sonicwall firewall which does support this feature, however, there is a rediculously low character limit which makes it impractical to use. I thought about setting the browser's homepage to a usage agreement page, but that can easily be bypassed by navigating to somewhere else. Are there any other approaches that may be worth considering? There is currently no server in place on the public network, though I can set one up if need be.

• Announcing Berkeley DB Java Edition Major Release

  Berkeley DB Java Edition 5.0 was just released. There are a number of new features, enhancements, and options in there that our users have been asking for. Chief among them is a new class called DiskOrderedCursor, which greatly increases performance of systems using spinning platter magnetic hard drives. A number of users expressed interest in this feature, including Alex Feinberg of LinkedIn. Berkeley DB Java Edition is part of Project Voldemort, a distributed key/value database used by LinkedIn. There have been many other improvements and optimizations. Concurrency is significantly improved, as is the performance of update and delete operations. New and interesting methods include Environment.preload, which allows multiple databases to be preloaded simultaneously. New Cursor methods enable for more effective searching through the database. We continue to enhance Berkeley DB Java Edition’s High Availability as well. One new feature is the ability to open a replicated node read-only when the master is unavailable. This can allow critical systems to continue offering some functionality, even during a network or master node failure. There’s a lot more in release 5.0. I have little script that run when user login to the computer and writes the file with computer name. I have 39 computers and only on 23 computers the script was run. So I am chasing up with other 16 computers. My question is how can I find out who has last login to the given computer name? Many thanks in advance

I don't want the users to download files with bittorrent (mainly used) and other p2p apps. I've also found some solutions about lowering p2p traffic priority using QoS. I really need to BAN p2p traffic. Does anyone know how to setup some rules to deny that kind of traffic ? I've tried to setup an Access Restriction Rule: But it's not working at all ...

• maemo - n900 - SIP call quality

  Hi all, I have been using SIP / VoIP on my n900 to make calls and my problem is after about 15 minutes of talk time, more recently 18 minutes exactly, my connection dies and I can no longer hear them or them me. I have tested this with various VoIP providers to confirm that it is not specific to any one provider, but instead my phone. I also have tested this on my laptop. I sent my phone to be tested at some place that tests hardware and no problems were found with the hardware. What can I do to rectify the 15 minute call barrier with SIP on my phone? The other problem I have too is that for the wireless broadband to start working again, I need to restart the phone, it appears the network driver gets overloaded. The one thing that appears to work fine is making cellular calls. I have yet to have call quality drop off after 15 minutes over a cellular connection. Thanks, Walter

• Windows 8 Pro Remote Desktop issue

  I have a weird issue here. I'm running Windows 8 Pro. The client computer is also running Windows 8 Pro. Remote Desktop works when I'm in the same network. I tried connecting using my external IP Address and my DynDNS account, neither works. I disabled Windows Firewall and setup DMZ for my computer on the router, still can't get remote desktop to work. I verified www.canyouseeme.org, port 3389 is open, which is obvious since I'm running DMZ! My ISP, Bell Canada (modem/router: Sagemcom F@st 2864), blocks port 80 and 25, but I don't need those for RDP, do I? The funny thing is RDP rejects the connection instantaneously for my IP or DynDNS while it takes a while for another address. Thank you, Michael

    The third DMV we will review is the sys.dm_exec_connections DMV. This DMV is Server-Scoped and displays information about each and every current connection on your SQL Server Instance. Lets take a look at some information that this DMV returns. SELECT * FROM sys.dm_exec_connections After reviewing this DMV, in my opinion, its not a whole lot of useful information returned from this DMV from a monitoring or troubleshooting standpoint. The primary use case I have for this DMV is when I need to get a quick count of how many connections I have on one of my SQL Server boxes. For this purpose a quick SELECT COUNT(*) satisfies my need. However, for those who need it, there is other information such as what type of authentication a specific connection is using, network packet size, and client/local TCP ports being used. This information can come in handy for specific scenarios but you probably wont need it very much for your day to day monitoring/troubleshooting needs. However, this is still an important DMV that you should be aware of in the event that you need it. • iDrac6 Email Alert Problem

  I'm trying to setup the email alerts on the iDrac6 Express on an R610, but when i run the test it just says "Sending Failed". Platform Event Filter Alerts are enabled. The network setup is: 192.168.1.22/255.255.255.0 Gateway: 192.168.1.1 DNS: 192.168.1.1 SMTP: 192.168.1.1 Exim is listening 192.168.1.1 and is set to allow mail on 192.168/16. There's nothing in the exim logs about connections from the drac. Is there a way to get the drac to give more information about why it's sending failed?

  Hi, By default, sendmail (I have version 8.13 on an RHEL4) allows only local mails. I wanted to allow mails from a particular network to be relayed via the system, so I did the following based on suggestions from various places : /etc/mail/access : Added the subnet and the domain 8.37 RELAY mydomain.com RELAY (I assume this is the originating email's domain) This alone did not work, so I added the following to sendmail.mc FEATURE(access_db)dbl Now, the problem is that it is allowing access from other domains as well. To test it out, I removed 8.37 RELAY from the access, and changed the email from field to [email protected] However, I still receive the mail. What is the correct way to configure this, so that only mails from a particular subnet are relayed ?

  I've been conducting security scans, and a new one popped up for me: DNS Server Spoofed Request Amplification DDoS The remote DNS server answers to any request. It is possible to query the name servers (NS) of the root zone ('.') and get an answer which is bigger than the original request. By spoofing the source IP address, a remote attacker can leverage this 'amplification' to launch a denial of service attack against a third-party host using the remote DNS server. General Solution: Restrict access to your DNS server from public network or reconfigure it to reject such queries. I'm hosting my own DNS for my website. I'm not sure what the solution is here... • Should I install an AV product on my domain controller?

  Should I run a server-specific antivirus, regular antivirus, or no antivirus at all on my servers, particularly my Domain Controllers? Here's some background about why I'm asking this question: I've never questioned that antivirus software should be running on all windows machines, period. Lately I've had some obscure Active Directory related issues that I have tracked down to antivirus software running on our domain controllers. The specific issue was that Symantec Endpoint Protection was running on all domain controllers. Occasionally, our Exchange server triggered a false-positive in Symantec's "Network Threat Protection" on each DC in sequence. After exhausting access to all DCs, Exchange began refusing requests, presumably because it could not communicate with any Global Catalog servers or perform any authentication. Outages would last about ten minutes at a time, and would occur once every few days. It took a long time to isolate the problem because it was not easily reproducible and generally investigation was done after the issue resolved itself.

• OpenVPN not with Windows 7 PCs on client Lan

  I have a setup with a router running OpenWRT with an openvpn client. Windows 7 pc's cannot access the vpn. They time out trying to access servers on the VPN. The mystery to me is that the setup works fine for my laptop running ubuntu. I can access the VPN without any issues. I previously had a router running Tomato with the same openvpn setup and all the computers could access the VPN. What could account for the difference in behaviour? Is there something I am missing in the OpenWRT setup that is required for windows networking that is on by default with tomato? To clarify the OpenVPN client is on the OpenWRT router. The client connects to the OpenVPN server. But when I try to access the VPN from Windows computers on my network I cannot.
