• in jqgrid, how can i have the editform disappear after submit

  right now, when i click submit it sends a message to the server and updates the databased and refreshes the screen but it keeps the edit form popup on the screen. • Need to dynamically-generate a "sticky note" text

  Working on a website that has an image of a sticky note which will change text somewhat frequently (every month or so) as new "todo" items are created on it. Font I'm currently using is not Web Safe and the text is slightly angled to match the skew of the sticky note as well. Now I'm a pragmatist, and in situations like this I would normally secede defeat and opt for something more CSS/HTML practical. But no more! I'm falling a bit behind on what's going on with HTML5, CSS3, PNG graphics, Flash (ugh), and/or any other rich visuals. I'm decent with PHP/CSS/JS (jquery), have dabbled in Flash/actionscript too. My question is: what tools/method should I be looking at here?

• Android : Stop image scaling down

  Hi, I'm trying to draw an image in a view but having problems trying to maintain the scale of the original image. Basically, I have a small view and I would like to show part of the image in the view. The intention then is to perform a translation on the image so that a different part appears in the view. No matter what I try, either the image is down-scaled automatically to fit the view or the whole image is viewable. I've tried playing about with the settings on BitmapDrawable, ImageView and Layout to no avail. Anyone know a good way to achieve this?

• Is it so bad to have heaps of elements in your DOM?

  I am making a real estate non interactive display for their shop window. I have kicked jCarousel into doing what I want: Add panels per AJAX Towards the end of the current set, go and AJAX some new panels and insert them This works fine, but it appears calling jQuery's remove() on the prior elements cause an ugly bump. I'm not sure if calling hide() will free up any resources, as the element will still exist (and the element will be off screen anyway). I've seen this, and tried carousel.reset() from within a callback. It just clears out all the elements. This will be running on Google Chrome on Windows XP, and will solely by displaying on LCD televisions. I am wondering, if I can't find a reasonable solution to remove the extra DOM elements, will it bring my application to a crawl, or will Chrome do some clever garbage collecting? Or, how would you solve this problem? Thanks

• JQGrid: Dynamically set a cell to uneditable based on content

  I'm having some issues getting some cells (with cellEdit: true) to be non-editable even though the column is set to editable. I've tried many ways, like beforeEditCell, formatters, etc. None seem to work. The closest I've got is by setting a formatter to the column that I'd like to be editable and then using setCell to set the 'not-editable-cell' class (snippet below). The first time you click the cell, it unfortunately goes into edit mode, but if you click elsewhere and try to re-edit the cell, it's successfully uneditable. I've also tried using the same snipped but inside of beforeEditCell, it successfully stops the cell from being edited but in turn 'freezes' the grid. You can no longer select any other cell. function noEditFormatter(cellValue, options, rowObject) { if (cellValue == 'test') jQuery("#grid").jqGrid('setCell', options.rowId, 'ColName', '', 'not-editable-cell'); return cellValue; } Any help would be much appreciated.

  In using a jquery callback, I found that 'this' isn't defined anymore. I've found a work around, which is to set 'this' to another variable.   My jQuery code: $(document).ready(function() { chrome.extension.sendRequest({get: "height"}, function(response) { height = response.value; }); $("#id").css("height", height+"px"); }); You don't have to be concerned about the chrome.extension.sendRequest(), basically it communicates with a background page to fetch the value for "height" from localStorage and stores the value in global variable height. The problem lies in $("#id") not being assigned the height value. However if I were to modify it such that it is now: $(document).click(function() { $("#id").css("height", height+"px"); }); it works. Any idea why?

• Adding fields until screen is full

  For the sake of this question, let us suppose that I want a row of buttons. I want to put as many buttons in that row as I can fit on the screen, but no more. In other words, as long as a prospective button will not be cut off or have its text shortened, add it. It seems that I should be able to do something like: HorizontalFieldManager hfm = new HorizontalFieldManager(); int remainingWidth = Display.getWidth(); int i =0; while(true) { ButtonField bf = new ButtonField("B " + i); remainingWidth -= bf.getWidth(); if(remainingWidth<0) break; hfm.add(bf); i++; } add(hfm); But this doesn't work. bf.getWidth() is always 0. I suspect that this is because the button has not yet been laid out when I query for the width. So, perhaps I could just make sure the buttons are always the same size. But this won't work for a few reasons: Different BB platforms have different looks for buttons and text that will fit on a button on a Curve won't fit on a button on a Storm. 3rd party themes may change the look of buttons, so I can't even count on buttons being a certain size on a certain platform. Is there no way for me to actually check the remaining space before adding a button? It feels like a fairly useful feature; am I just missing something?

  Hi, I've got a multi-part form (in a PHP MVC setup) which I have working correctly without javascript enhancement. I'm starting to add the AJAX form handling code which will handle each stage of a form submission, validating/saving data etc, before using AJAX to load the next stage of the form. I'm wondering how best to pass the URL of the next stage to the current form being processed, so that my jQuery form handling code can process the current form, then load the next part via AJAX. The form "action" is different from what the url of the next stage of the form is - what do you think would be good practice here? I was thinking about either appending the url of the next stage to the form action url, via a query string - then just use javascript to extract this url when the form is successfully processed. The other option is via a hidden form element. Not sure what other client side options I have here Any thoughts?

For example: DROPDOWNS Field 1: - value_1 - value_2 Field 2: - value_3 Field 3: - value_4 - value_5 COMBINATIONS - value_1, value_3, value_5 - value_1, value_3, value_4 - value_2, value_3, value_5 When a user selects Field 3 - value_4, the unavailable options will be disabled - ie, Field 1 - value_2 (there is no combination that allows value_2 and value_4 to be selected together). It would be really great if someone could provide some pointers on how this can be achieved or just provide a fresh perspective - I'm going round in circles on this one!

  Hi guys. I made a website using AJAX (with jquery) for the navigation. The pages of the site are sliding and I use remove() to destroy the old page. Every thing seems alright, but some times the browser crashes when he tries to remove the old page containing a Flash object. I suppose this is because Flash is still executing the Flash object. My question is simple. How do i remove this Flash's object for my page without having the browser crashing on my face ? Is there a way to stop the Flash execution before removing the object ?   I'm having a hard time giving a good description of this, but bear with me: If I have a page structed like this <h2>Chapter 1</h2> <p>Lots of text that has mutiple screen worths of content</p> <h2>Chapter 2</h2> <p>Lots of text...</p> I'd like to have "Chapter 1" absolutely positioned or whatever at the top of the page until the user scrolls down to where "Chapter 2" starts, at which point now "Chapter 2" is displayed at the top of the page. • javascript not working on localhost

  Ok so I'm lost here, frustrated and pulling my hair and out. Plus probably about to be fired or take a pay cut. I moved Files from a development server to my local machine. The files are consistent (used diff tool), all the dependencies are there. It works for the most part. The problem is that the some of the javascript (not all) is just not working. We're using jquery and a lot of plugins for it. I've checked with the web developer plugin in firefox and all the js files are loading. I cleared the cache in both firefox and chrome multiple times to no avail. The development server is a windows server running wamp. My local machine is running ubuntu. Somebody tell me what I missed.
