• recursive find in emacs?

  Is there a recursive find function for a find in emacs? I thought the 'nix "find" was implemented in eshell but perhaps not (I've been using it on OS X but it must have been calling FreeBSD's "find")... I know of rgrep, find-grep, grep-find, in emacs, but I don't actually need the grepping part. Perhaps it's a feature in one of dired's functions (though I didn't find it)? Using windows and I miss some 'nix utilities... thought emacs 23.2 might fill in for me.

  I'm working on a cross-platform app for Windows and Mac OS X, and I have a problem with two standard C library functions: strtod() - string-to-double conversion sprintf() - when used for outputting double-precision floating point numbers) Their GCC and MSVC versions return different results. I'm looking for a well-tested cross-platform open-source implementation of those functions, or just for a pair of functions that would correctly and consistently convert double to string and back. I've already tried the clib GCC implementation, but the code is too long and too dependent on other source files, so I expect the adaptation to be difficult. What implementations of string-to-double and double-to-string functions would you recommend?

• UBUNTU.. GRUB problem

  Hi, I have/(had) windows xp on one partition of my hdd. on second i installed ubuntu 9.10 yesterday. and after reboot of windows xp i get error "GRUB LOADING.". now i know that you can play around with that using live GRUB and all. putting GRUB on top of MBR or etc etc. something like that. i want to know - if i reinstall Ubuntu 10.04 which is available now - will it give me still the same error? or i will be able to use both OS? (i.e. is that problem solved in version 10.04 or still there? and if it is solved reinstallation of ubuntu will solve the problem or not?) anyhelp is welcome. Thanks

  Hi, I have a 3G modem, and the accompanied "Mobile Partner" software really s*cks, and I want to make my own. Currently, I've found out the following: Sending/Interpreting AT commands Setting the APN/PIN/Network Registration/... These things were well-documented on many sites. But now I want to connect, and here the problems start: If I try to do a ATDT *99#, which should dial the *99# number, I get the message CONNECT. But what do I need to do now? How do I tell windows to use the dial in network? Is the '*99#' even the number I should dial? (I think so, because it's the default dialing number in the Mobile Partner application, and on OS X on my 3G modem) I'm writing this program in C#. Thank you! Yvan

  I have a c#/winforms application that uses directx to play some video and audio. whenever i start my application in debugmode i get this annoying message. i can click "continue" and everything seems to work fine. but i still want to get rid of this message. it does not show up in releasemode. • qmake -project command gives QFileInfo warning in Qt 4.6

  I've upgraded to Qt 4.6 on my Mac (OS 10.5). When I go to a project directory and run: qmake -project Qt returns this warning (although it doesn't say it's a warning, I assume it is since the .pro file gets created anyway): QFileInfo::absolutePath: Constructed with empty filename I did a completely new install thinking that the "upgrade" wasn't clean for whatever reason, it still does it. Any ideas as to why?   Is it possible to write to a file in a native iPhone application and have a Safari browser read from that file after having the browser opened from the native app? Alternatively (and this would be great!), would it be possible to launch a mobile Safari webapp from a native iPhone app, and have that application access the OS 3.0 External Accessory Framework? My assumption is no... Basically, I have a functioning iPhone app that wraps a simple mobile Safari webapp, but I'd like to utilize the external accessory framework once I have launched the Safari webapp from the iPhone app...

• PHP Extension (memcache|memcached) not showing in phpinfo() but showing in php -m and php -i?

  I am getting both modules listed as installed / configured when I use: php -m or if I use: php -i but when I use: $m = new Memcache; // or $m = new Memcache(); // or $m = new Memcached(); //or $m = new Memcached; I get the following error: Fatal error: Class 'Memcached' not found I am running on a Mac - OS X (10.5.7) with default install of apache & php. Additionally, I have memcached running as a daemon on 127.0.0.1:11211 and libmemcache as required by the php-memcached library. I have restarted apache tons of times and even done a machine restart. Does anyone know why the modules/extensions show up in the command line but not in my phpinfo()? I am literally stumped, after 3 hours of googling, I am just about ready to give up.

• What is the safest way to pass strings around in C?

  I have a program in C using Solaris with VERY ancient compatibility it seems. Many examples, even here on SO, don't work, as well as lots of code I've written on Mac OS X. So when using very strict C, what is the safest way to pass strings? I'm currently using char pointers all over the place, due to what I thought was simplicity. So I have functions that return char*, I'm passing char* to them, etc. I'm already seeing strange behavior, like a char* I passed having its value right when I enter a function, and then the value being mysteriously gone OR corrupted/overwritten after something simple like one printf() or an malloc to some other pointer. I was thinking maybe declaring a local char[] inside each function, using strcpy() immediately, and then eventually returning a pointer where char *returnval = strdup(localchar[]); This seems...sloppy. Can anyone point me in the right direction on a simple requirement?

• View plain text files with different background colors in Mac OSX, for different programming languag

  Hi, I work with Mac OS X Leopard. I usually have 5 or 10 text files opened at the same time with different programming languages; one for a bash script, another for a python one, etc. When I use exposé all of them look the same, so it is difficult to select them. I wonder how could I work with just plain text files in OSX, so when they are opened in an editor the background color changes or some other thign, so when using exposé it is clear to me which window belongs to what language. I thought about inserting some kind of info to the last line of each document, and then creat some applescript that converts it to RTF or someother text document which includes color in bacjground, so then it is opened with textmate or someother app. Do you know a better approach for this?   I have a list of strings containing filenames such as, file_names = ['filei.txt','filej.txt','filek.txt','file2i.txt','file2j.txt','file2k.txt','file3i.txt','file3j.txt','file3k.txt'] I then remove the .txt extension using: extension = os.path.commonprefix([n[::-1] for n in file_names])[::-1] file_names_strip = [n[:-len(extension)] for n in file_names] And then return the last character of each string in the list file_names_strip: h = [n[-1:] for n in file_names_strip] Which gives h = ['i', 'j', 'k', 'i', 'j', 'k', 'i', 'j', 'k'] How can i test for a pattern of strings in h? So if i,j,k occur sequentially it would return True and False if not. I need to know this because not all file names are formatted like they are in file_names. So: test_ijk_pattern(h) = True no_pattern = ['1','2','3','1','2','3','1','2','3'] test_ijk_pattern(no_pattern) = False

  Hi! I need help with my browsers. In my OS (windows 7 basic) installed 2 browsers: IE 8 and Google Chrome. When I trying to open pages, which associated with microsoft.com (like ms live and others), my browser crashes. IE 8 crashes too. But Opera (I've installed it later) works fine with that pages. P.S. I tried to search the trojan software and viruses. But my PC is clean.

• "paste" listener on a SWT widget

  I have an application with a SWT widget, say a org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Text, and want to add some control to the paste function. The idea is that if the user can paste a string of IDs, I detect that, run some code and paste the object that corresponds to the IDs. So I'm looking for some "ClipBoardListener" of some sort to add to my widget, but that doesnt seem to exist. A keylistener would only trap the pastes done by key and then you would have to deal with different key combos for pasting in different OS's. Based on this java 1.2 question I tried subclassing the text class and override the inser method, but that didnt work Exception in thread "main" org.eclipse.swt.SWTException: Subclassing not allowed Seemed like an ugly solution anyway.

• Display Computer Info on an ASP.NET Page

  I want to build a page for end users to visit (in our MPLS Network) and it show the following information in regards to them: Computer Name OS Disk Space Memory IP Address Active Directory User Name Password Expiration Time (As defined by Global Policy) Maybe a few other things such as Trend Micro Office current version vs. their version, # of MS Updates needed (we utilize WSUS), and a few other things in the future. My question is how would I pull this information from the user when they visit the page? What is the proper function for this? Anyone have examples they wish to share for me to learn by if possible?

  Hello everyone. I have a mobile app webservice client that connects to a WCF webservice(on my PC) deployed in a WiMo Device. The OS is Windows Mobile 6.0. It is connected to my PC using a USB cable and ActiveSync 4.5. Problem: When I use a mobile emulator to run the application, it was able to connect to the web service successfully. But if I use the mobile phone to run the application, it cannot connect to the web service. However, I can view the webservice's test webpage using phone's browser(IE) (http://153.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080/Design_Time_Addresses/SOAP11demo/Service1/) Can you guys help me identify on what is wrong?

I have successfully implemented the commands using os.system() call. But the output is obtained at the console. The real problem is the output of command is a listing that takes almost 20-25 min continuous printing. How we can transfer this console output to a text box designed in Qt. • Should I include the binary in a Rails plugin or not?

  Hello. I'm trying to roll out a little Rails plugin that is basically is just a wrapper to a 7zip archiver. Should I include the 7zip binaries for windows, mac and linux with it or explain to user that it's a dependency and they need to get it working. I know it's not that difficult to install a 7zip, but what is the best practice in general. The reason I'm asking is cause I've ran so many times into gems that need some sort of dependency that doesn't compile properly or is not available in ready form for the OS in question and then I end up spending have a day hunting down for a binary or a way to compile the program. (Have happened to me both on Mac and Windows, not on Debian so far. )

• XCode 4.3 : XIB files and localisation

  I have a problem with XIB Files and localizations (Xcode 4.3, Mac Os X 10.7.4) My application supports french and english localizations. For my test, i decided to change the languages and regions from "french" to "english" in system preferences. When i launch my application, it displays always old XIB files (french) et not the XIB files "attached" to my new localization ! ** I followed all the recommendations which i was able to find : i cleared all caches, clean up the project, ... and so on ! The problem is always here and persists. Can be that XCode4 has the other files to delete somewhere else ? is it possible to use another means to test my new localization ? If you are a idea, ... • Fast way to perform addition of 2 LARGE float arrays in Android. Optional JNI or Opengl ES

  I simply need to add floatArray1 to floatArray2 storing the result in floatArray2.. no third array.. all arrays are one dimensional but are very large... probibly as large as the os will let me get away with. Max i would need is two float arrays with 40,000 floats each... but i could get away with 1/10th that i suppose minimum. Would love to do this in 1/30th or 1/60th of a second but that does not seem possible? Also if the code is JNI,NDK or OpenGL ES thats fine.. does android have an assembly language or like machine code i could use somehow?

  If you look at your Inbox in iPhone OS 3.0's Mail app, you'll see that swiping down displays a grayish background color above the UISearchBar. Now, if you scroll down to the bottom of the table, you'll see that the background color at that end is white. I can think of a couple ways of solving this problem, but they're pretty hacky: Change the table view's background color depending on the current scrollOffset by overriding -scrollViewDidScroll: Give the UITableView a clear background color and then set its superview's backgroundColor to a gradient pattern image. Does anyone know what the "best practice" solution is for this problem? thanks.

  I really want to fix the meanings of this terms.This is what I know about them: Platform: is an environment that allows an application to run and it is usually composite by hardware and software e.g. your machine with your OS installed on it. However some software stack are also called as platform like Java Platform. Framework: is design-oriented. That is, it defines a skeleton of an application type. Also it saves time by offering, through an API, the common functionalities that a kind of applications must implement. Moreover a Framework include a software components that manage the application life-cycle. Middle-ware: is a software that offers services to an application in order to let it inter-operates with other applications or supports different platforms. Middle-ware can be a part of a framework. Is there something wrong or missing ?
