• Can't get this SPARQL query to work

  Okay, I'm just learning to use SPARQL to query data from dbpedia.org and I'm using dbpedia's http://dbpedia.org/snorql/ to run my queries in. I am trying to get a list of MusicalArtists based on searching for the same string over three fields like so: SELECT ?subject ?artistRdfsLabel ?artistFoafName ?artistDbpedia2Name WHERE { ?subject rdf:type <http://dbpedia.org/ontology/MusicalArtist> . OPTIONAL { ?subject rdfs:label ?artistRdfsLabel . } OPTIONAL { ?subject foaf:name ?artistFoafName . } OPTIONAL { ?subject dbpedia2:name ?artistDbpedia2Name . } FILTER ( str(?artistRdfsLabel) = "Stevie Nicks" || str(?artistFoafName) = "Stevie Nicks" || str(?artistDbpedia2Name) = "Stevie Nicks" ) } LIMIT 10 This works because "Stevie Nicks" has all three fields (rdfs:label, foaf:name, dbpedia2:name). But when I try to query by another MusicalArtist that doesn't have all three ("Depeche Mode" for example) I get no results. I have tried various things like BIND(COALESCE(?field,...,...) AS ?artistName) to filter by ?artistName and I also tried UNION but nothing seems to work. Can someone point out the error of my SPARQL ways? :) Thanks! Jason

• C# 4.0 'dynamic' doesn't set ref/out arguments

  I'm experimenting with DynamicObject. One of the things I try to do is setting the values of ref/out arguments, as shown in the code below. However, I am not able to have the values of i and j in Main() set properly (even though they are set correctly in TryInvokeMember()).   My relationship between the parent and child is that they are connected by an edge. It is similiar to a directed graph structure.   Hi guys, is there a simple way to persist some of the fields in another class and table using hibernate. For example, I have a Person class with name, surname, email, address1, address2, city, country fields. What is the best way to achieve this? Edit: I am using annotations. It does not have to be the way I described, I am looking for best practices. PS. If there is a way to make Address immutable (to use as a value object) that is even better, or maybe not because I thought everything from wrong perspective :)

• Is private members hacking a defined behaviour ?

  Hi, Lets say I have the following class: class BritneySpears { public: int getValue() { return m_value; }; private: int m_value; }; Which is an external library (that I can't change). I obviously can't change the value of m_value, only read it. Even subclassing BritneySpears won't work. What if I define the following class: class AshtonKutcher { public: int getValue() { return m_value; }; public: int m_value; }; And then do: BritneySpears b; // Here comes the ugly hack AshtonKutcher* a = reinterpret_cast<AshtonKutcher*>(&b); a->m_value = 17; // Print out the value std::cout << b.getValue() << std::endl; I know this is a bad practice. But just for curiosity: is this guaranted to work ? Is it a defined behaviour ? Bonus question: Have you ever had to use such an ugly hack ? Thanks !

I would expect every Thread except one to print out "Bar not equal to i", but every Thread prints "Bar equal to i". Eh, wtf does volatile actually do if not this?

• Truly declarative language?

  Hi all, Does anyone know of a truly declarative language? The behaviour I'm looking for is kind of what Excel does, where I can define variables and formulas, and have the formula's result change when the input changes (without having set the answer again myself) The behaviour I'm looking for is best shown with this pseudo code: X = 10 // define and assign two variables Y = 20; Z = X + Y // declare a formula that uses these two variables X = 50 // change one of the input variables ?Z // asking for Z should now give 70 (50 + 20) I've tried this in a lot of languages like F#, python, matlab etc, but every time i try this they come up with 30 instead of 70. Wich is correct from an imperative point of view, but i'm looking for a more declerative behaviour if you know what i mean. And this is just a very simple calculation. When things get more difficult it should handle stuff like recursion and memoization automagically. The code below would obviously work in C# but it's just so much code for the job, i'm looking for something a bit more to the point without all that 'technical noise' class BlaBla{ public int X {get;set;} // this used to be even worse before 3.0 public int Y {get;set;} public int Z {get{return X + Y;}} } static void main(){ BlaBla bla = new BlaBla(); bla.X = 10; bla.Y = 20; // can't define anything here bla.X = 50; // bit pointless here but I'll do it anyway.   Hi, I'm not yet a skilled programmer but I thought this was an interesting problem and I thought I'd give it a go. Triangle, pentagonal, and hexagonal numbers are generated by the following formulae: Triangle T_(n)=n(n+1)/2 1, 3, 6, 10, 15, ... Pentagonal P_(n)=n(3n-1)/2 1, 5, 12, 22, 35, ... Hexagonal H_(n)=n(2n-1) 1, 6, 15, 28, 45, ... It can be verified that T_(285) = P_(165) = H_(143) = 40755. Find the next triangle number that is also pentagonal and hexagonal. Is the task description. I know that Hexagonal numbers are a subset of triangle numbers which means that you only have to find a number where Hn=Pn. But I can't seem to get my code to work. I only know java language which is why I'm having trouble finding a solution on the net womewhere. Anyway hope someone can help. • Android GPS cloud of confusion!

  I am trying to design my first Android application with the use of GPS. As of right now, I have a drawable button that when clicked, alerts a Toast message of the longitude and latitude. I have tried to use the telnet localhost 5554 and then geo fix #number #number to feed in values but no results display just 0 0. I have also tried DDMS way of sending GPS coordinates and I get the same thing. My question is what exactly is the code equivalent to the geo fix and the DDMS way of sending coordinates. I have used Location, LocationManger and LocationListener but I am not sure which is the right choice. Could anyone explain to me what the code-equivalent just so I can get a better understanding of how to fix my application not working. • I can't find the cause of an "unchecked or unsafe operations" warning in Java.

  Hello, as per the title I am struggling to find the cause of an "unchecked or unsafe operations" warning in some code. If I have the following code, it compiles without any warnings: public void test() { Set<String> mySet = new HashSet<String>(); Set<String> myNewSet = mySet; //do stuff } Now, if I change where mySet comes from, specifically as the result of a method call, I get the "unchecked yadda yadda" warning: public void test() { Set<String> myNewSet = this.getSet(); //do stuff } public Set getSet() { Set<String> set = new HashSet<String>(); return set; } I have tried and tried to work out what the problem is and I am completely stumped. The issue is present whether I use Sets or Lists. Why would the Set returned by the getSet method be any different to the Set in the first example? Any help would be greatly appreciated as while the warning isn't the end of the world, it is bugging the hell out of me! :( Regards

I'm not great at Hibernate to be honest, prefer straight SQL but I must learn, but i can't see what it is that is wrong.....? Any suggestions?

• Simple Database normalization question...

  Hi all, I have a quick question regarding a database that I am designing and making sure it is normalized... I have a customer table, with a primary key of customerId. It has a StatusCode column that has a code which reflects the customers account status ie. 1 = Open, 2 = Closed, 3 = Suspended etc... Now I would like to have another field in the customer table that flags whether the account is allowed to be suspended or not... certain customers will be automatically suspended if they break there trading terms... others not... so the relevant table fields will be as so: Customers (CustomerId(PK):StatusCode:IsSuspensionAllowed) Now both fields are dependent on the primary key as you can not determine the status or whether suspensions are allowed on a particular customer unless you know the specific customer, except of course when the IsSuspensionAllowed field is set to YES, the the customer should never have a StatusCode of 3 (Suspended). It seems from the above table design it is possible for this to happen unless a check contraint is added to my table. I can't see how another table could be added to the relational design to enforce this though as it's only in the case where IsSuspensionAllowed is set to YES and StatusCode is set to 3 when the two have a dependence on each other. So after my long winded explanation my question is this: Is this a normalization problem and I'm not seeing a relational design that will enforce this... or is it actually just a business rule that should be enforced with a check contraint and the table is in fact still normalized. • Reverse search in Hibernate Search

  Hello, I'm using Hibernate Search (which uses Lucene) for searching some Data I have indexed in a directory. It works fine but I need to do a reverse search. By reverse search I mean that I have a list of queries stored in my database I need to check which one of these queries match with a Data object each time Data Object is created. I need it to alert the user when a Data Object matches with a Query he has created. So I need to index this single Data Object which has just been created and see which queries of my list has this object as a result. I've seen Lucene MemoryIndex Class to create an index in memory so I can do something like this example for every query in a list (though iterating in a Java list of queries would not be very efficient): //Iterating over my list<Query> MemoryIndex index = new MemoryIndex(); //Add all fields index.addField("myField", "myFieldData", analyzer); ... QueryParser parser = new QueryParser("myField", analyzer); float score = index.search(query); if (score > 0.0f) { System.out.println("it's a match"); } else { System.out.println("no match found"); } The problem here is that this Data Class has several Hibernate Search Annotations @Field,@IndexedEmbedded,... which indicated how fields should be indexed, so when I invoke index() method on the FullTextEntityManager instance it uses this information to index the object in the directory. Is there a similar way to index it in memory using this information? Is there a more efficient way of doing this reverse search? Thanks

• Unable to change background colour for JOptionPane

  Hi I have created sample progeam which will give same look and feel of a confirm dialog and set the background colour as red. But I donot know what is the problem that my background colour of option is displayed as the default colour but not red. also i need same look and feel of confirm dialog across all platforms. • Problem with filefield module after migrating drupal site to a new server: cant upload files
