  • Cannot run texi2dvi on R Ubuntu

    I'm trying to generate a pdf file from a tex file from R, but I'm getting the following error: > tools::texi2dvi("teste.tex",) Error in tools::texi2dvi("teste.tex", ) : Running 'texi2dvi' on 'teste.tex' failed. Messages: sed: can't read ./teste.tex: Permission denied mkdir: cannot create directory `teste.t2d': Permission denied /usr/bin/texi2dvi: cannot create directory: teste.t2d The user owns the file teste.tex and also the folder it's located. I'm running it into Ubuntu 12.04 and R 2.15.0 Does anyone knows what's going on?

  • Database design for heavy timed data logging

    Hi, I have an application where I receive each data 40.000 rows. I have 5 million rows to handle (500 Mb MySQL 5.0 database). Actually, thoses rows are stored in the same table = slow to update, hard to backup, ... Which king of scheme is used in such application to allow long term accessibility to the datas without problems with too big tables, easy backup, fast read / write ? Is postgresql better than mysql for such purpose ? Thanks in advance BEst regards

  • HttpClient response handler always returns closed stream

    I'm new to Java development so please bear with me. Also, I hope I'm not the champion of tl;dr :). I'm using HttpClient to make requests over Http (duh!) and I'd gotten it to work for a simple servlet that receives an URL as a query string parameter. I realized that my code could use some refactoring, so I decided to make my own HttpResponseHandler, to clean up the code, make it reusable and improve exception handling. I currently have something like this: public class HttpResponseHandler implements ResponseHandler<InputStream>{ public InputStream handleResponse(HttpResponse response) throws ClientProtocolException, IOException { int statusCode = response.getStatusLine().getStatusCode(); InputStream in = null; if (statusCode != HttpStatus.SC_OK) { throw new HttpResponseException(statusCode, null); } else { HttpEntity entity = response.getEntity(); if (entity != null) { in = entity.getContent(); // This works // for (int i;(i = in.read()) >= 0;) System.out.print((char)i); } } return in; } } And in the method where I make the actual request: HttpClient httpclient = new DefaultHttpClient(); HttpGet httpget = new HttpGet(target); ResponseHandler<InputStream> httpResponseHandler = new HttpResponseHandler(); try { InputStream in = httpclient.execute(httpget, httpResponseHandler); // This doesn't work // for (int i;(i = in.read()) >= 0;) System.out.print((char)i); return in; } catch (HttpResponseException e) { throw new HttpResponseException(e.getStatusCode(), null); } The problem is that the input stream returned from the handler is closed. I don't have any idea why, but I've checked it with the prints in my code (and no, I haven't used them both at the same time :). While the first print works, the other one gives a closed stream error. I need InputStreams, because all my other methods expect an InputStream and not a String. Also, I want to be able to retrieve images (or maybe other types of files), not just text files. I can work around this pretty easily by giving up on the response handler (I have a working implementation that doesn't use it), but I'm pretty curious about the following: Why does it do what it does? How do I open the stream, if something closes it? What's the right way to do this, anyway :)? I've checked the docs and I couldn't find anything useful regarding this issue.     A quick question: When i pass a variable to a function, dose the program make a copy of that variable to use in the function? If it dose and I knew that the function would only read the variable and never write to it, is it possible to pass a variable to the function without creating a copy of that variable or should I just leave that up to the compiler optimizations to do that automatically for me?

I do not need to do anything real time, and just want a simple library that gives me events and times. Would it be easier to write one for myself? Any help would be appreciated.

    I am looking for a simple computer algebra system (cas) for JavaScript but I can't find anything with google. I only need basic functionality: simplify expressions to some canonic form. Ability to check if two expressions are the same, i.e., a(x+y) == ax+ay parse mathematical formulas. I want it to be able to read expressions like ax²+4x. solve simple equations etc. Do you know of such a library?

  • Pass values from MasterPage UserControl to child ASPX Page

    Hi, Senario: Masterpage with a UserControl and a child ASPX page In the past when using this senario I've used an Interface as a way to pass a value from the UserControl (embedded in a master page) to the masterpage code behind then consume that value in the child aspx page. My question is now that asp.net 4 have arrived is this still a good way to achieve this or is there another or perhaps better way to do it? I've read somewhere that perhaps "delegates" is perhaps another route to take. Any help much appreciated Lk

  • solr-tomcat package on ubuntu lucid

    Hi I've installed solr-tomcat package on ubuntu lucid (10.04 latest). It automatically install java and tomcat and hopefully all other dependencies. I can access tomcat at http://localhost:8080 but not sure where to find the solr web admin http://localhost:8180 gives me nothing. Is this package known to work? I've read that on previous ubuntu releases the packages were broken. Do I need to configure anything after installing the package? Thanks

    I've been doing web development for a while and have yet to read a good answer to this question: Given a page that executes transactions through a postback, how do you prevent the user from duplicating the transaction when they do something as simple as hit the back button? I've explored trying expire the cache but I must admit I'm lacking in my understanding of ASP.NET caching. What is the approach I should use to make the old request stale and invalid? Thanks!
