  • Can I use the SharePoint 2010 SQL Database through SharePoint from my App?

    I wonder if there is a supported way to access the SharePoint 2010 SQL Server through an API? I'm not talking about modifying any SharePoint Database directly (I know that that is still unsupported), but I'd like to store some data that my application needs, and instead of asking the user to enter a Connection String, I'd prefer to create my own database on the SQL Server that SharePoint uses. I think I could use the new Service Application stuff, but that seems a bit overkill?

Should I use a separate database for each of these sites or use a single database with a 'site' field in each table? My main concern is the table language encoding (ie, can storing strings in different langauges in the same table cause problems, such as sorting issues).

    I am researching using silverlight 4 to develop a desktop application that can be installed from a browser window, now the tricky part is that I want a lightweight database embedded into the application. The database should install with the rest of the application and it should ideally work on both windows and mac systems. Originally I was thinking sqlite would be suitable for this but I have learned that it is not compatible with silverlight. Does anyone know of a solution for this?

  • How do I remove database name from SQL Server generated script?

    Anytime I use 'script table as' - 'Insert To' (or other command), the script generated automatically places the database name in the script. Such as: INSERT INTO [DatabaseName].[dbo].[tblToBeInserted] ... While not a huge problem to just delete it, it has slipped by a few times and the script breaks if run on a different server with a different database name but has the same schema. (Such as running on [DatabaseName.Test]) Is there an option I can change, or can I modify the output in any way to remove this?

    I've been having issues with psexec so I've been migrating to use winrs (part of the winrm system). It's a very nice remoting tool which is proving to be more reliable then psexec. Wuinstall is used to install available windows updates. The two however don't play well together. I'm working on a verity of windows servers 2003, 2008 and 2008r2. Wuinstall behaves the same across all hosts and behaves as expected if executed locally by the same user.   • Cisco SR520w FE - WAN Port Stops Working

    I have setup a Cisco SR520W and everything appears to be working. After about 1-2 days, it looks like the WAN port stops forwarding traffic to the Internet gateway IP of the device. If I unplug and then plug in the network cable connecting the WAN port of the SR520W to my Comcast Cable Modem, traffic startings flowing again. Also, if I restart the SR520W, the traffic will flow again. Any ideas? This could be due to the fact that the server certificate is not configured properly with HTTP.SYS in the HTTPS case. This could also be caus ed by a mismatch of the security binding between the client and the server. this is the server code : Uri address = new Uri("https://localhost:8000/ExchangeService"); WSHttpBinding binding = new WSHttpBinding(); //Set Binding Params binding.Security.Mode = SecurityMode.Transport; binding.Security.Transport.ClientCredentialType = HttpClientCredentialType.None; binding.Security.Transport.ProxyCredentialType = HttpProxyCredentialType.None; Type contract = typeof(ExchangeService.ServiceContract.ITradeService); ServiceHost host = new ServiceHost(typeof(TradeService)); host.AddServiceEndpoint(contract, binding, address); host.Open(); this is the client configuration (app.config): </client> <bindings> <wsHttpBinding> <binding name="TradeWsHttpBinding"> <security mode="Transport"> <transport clientCredentialType="None" proxyCredentialType ="None"/> </security> </binding> </wsHttpBinding> </bindings> the security configuration at both the client and the server are the same , and i dont need certificate for the server in that kind of security (transport) so why do i get this exception ???? thanks...
