• Why is it that XCode cannot push my changes?

  I am writing an iOS application in XCode. I associated a remote repository to it. I finished writing a View Controller file and then went to File - Source Control - Commit. I wrote a commit message. Oddly, every time I typed a space, an error popped up that read "1 of 2 files will be commited." I then tried to push the commit by clicking File - Source Control - Push. However, I get an error that notes that I have unsaved changes. Why? Didn't I just commit?

  The costs of technology assets can become significant and the need to centralize, monitor and control the contribution of each technology asset becomes a paramount responsibility for many organizations. Through the implementation of various mechanisms, it is possible to obtain a holistic vision and develop synergies between different assets, empowering their re-utilization and analyzing the impact on the organization caused by IT changes. When the SOA domain is considered, the issue of governance should therefore always come into play. Although SOA governance is mandatory to achieve any measure of SOA success, its value still passes incognito in most organizations, mostly due to the lack of visibility and the detached view of the SOA initiatives. There are a number of problems that jeopardize the visibility of these initiatives: Understanding and measuring the value of SOA governance and its contribution – SOA governance tools are too technical and isolated from other systems. They are inadequate for anyone outside of the domain (Business Analyst, Project Managers, or even some Enterprise Architects), and are especially harsh at the CxO level. Lack of information exchange with the business, other operational areas and project management – It is not only a matter of lack of dialog but also the question of using a common vocabulary (textual or graphic) that is adequate for all the stakeholders. We need to generate information that can be useful for a wider scope of stakeholders like Business and enterprise architectures. In this article we describe how an organization can leverage from the existing best practices, and with the help of adequate exploration and communication tools, achieve and maintain the level of quality and visibility that is required for SOA and SOA governance initiatives. • Open ports broken from internal network

  Quick summary: Forwarded port works from the outside world, but from the internal network using the external IP the connection is refused. This is a simplified situation to make the explanation easier: I have a computer that is running a service on port 12345. This computer has an internal IP 192.168.1.100 and is connected directly to a modem/router which has internal IP 192.168.1.1 and external (public, static) IP 1.2.3.4. (The router is TP-LINK TD-w8960N) I have set up port forwarding (virtual server) at port 12345 to go to port 12345 at 192.168.1.100. If I run telnet 192.168.1.100 12345 from the same computer everything works. But running telnet 1.2.3.4 12345 says connection refused. If I do this on another computer (on the same internal network, connected to the router) the same thing happens. This would seem like the port forwarding is not working. However... If I run a online port checking service on my external IP and the service port it says the port is open and I can see the remote server connecting and immediately closing connection. And using another computer that is connected to the internet using a mobile connection I can also use telnet 1.2.3.4 12345 and I get a working connection. So the port forwarding seems to be working, however using external IP from the internal network doesn't. I have no idea what can be causing this, since another setup very much like this (different router) works for me. I can access a service running on a server from inside the network both through the internal and external IP. Note: I know I could just use the internal IP inside of the network to access this service. But if I have a laptop that must be able to do this both from inside and outside it would be annoying to constantly switch between 1.2.3.4 and 192.168.1.100 in the software configuration. • External microphone not working

  gnome-volume-control does not recognise external hardware. My headphones work nonetheless, but an external microphone does not. External microphones used to work, but at times were temperamental - I would have to login or logout with or without microphone plugged in. I am running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) on an mSi U100 wind notebook with one Intel soundcard and trying to use a jack microphone which has worked previously. USB microphones have also been problematic. I have done the basics: Installed upgrades. Checked nothing is muted. Looked for the device on gnome-volume-control. Tried using a different microphone that works on a friends computer. Tested my microphone works when using a different computer. Checked my soundcard can be seen (cat /proc/asound/cards). I have done more complicated things: I have tried playing around with settings in alsamixer. Nothing is muted. I can adjust "mic" and "internal mic" regardless of whether an external microphone is plugged in. I have the choice of input source from "mic", "front mic", "line" and "CD". I've played around changing this and it hasn't helped. I only have one CAPTURE option. In gnome-sound-recorder I have the choice of line, microphone 1 and microphone 2. I have played around changing this option. None of these pick up sound from the external microphone. Microphone 2 is the microphone on my laptop which is bad quality. In gnome-sound-recorder I have the choice of different profiles, and changing this has not helped either. I have looked at gstreamer-properties but none of that seemed helpful. I don't know if there a way to check if these external devices are being picked up. I would like to make an external microphone work. Please help!

  I am trying to connect to the MS SQL database using freetds and unixodbc. I have read various guides how to do it, but no one works fine for me. When I try to connect to the database using isql tool, I get the following error: $ isql -v TS username password [IM002][unixODBC][Driver Manager]Data source name not found, and no default driver specified [ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect Have anybody already successfully established the connection to the MS SQL database using freetds and unixodbc on Ubuntu 12.04? I would really appreciate some help. Below is the procedure I used to configure the freetds and unixodbc. Thanks for your help in advance! • Can't avoid starting macbook in safe mode

  I recently spilled some water on my MacBook (mid-2010) keyboard and it shorted out several of the keys. Notably, control and left option don't work, and the system thinks that the left shift is permanently held down. I plugged in an external USB keyboard and all keys work fine; there's only one problem: The computer always starts in safe mode because the shift key is held down. I've tried holding down other keys (escape, space, c to name a few) and the control key doesn't work so I can't try that. I also tried KeyRemap4Macbook but it doesn't work in safe mode and it doesn't seem to help on startup for me. I can log in to Windows with no problems (with rEFIt) and I can browse the internet with no problems, but I can't program on the Mac OS side in safe mode (it's really slow). Which is mainly what I use this Macbook for. Any ideas out there on how to avoid starting in safe mode?

• How to start vim without executing /etc/vimrc?

  On my Linux server at work, the admins did not install cscope, and I installed it from source in my home directory and added it to the $PATH. The trouble is, the /etc/vimrc has a reference to /usr/bin/cscope which does not exist and everytime I start vim, it complains about that and I have to press for that message to go away. It is interesting that if I remove cscope from my $PATH, I don't get that behavior - so it is possible that vim is testing that cscope exists somewhere, and only then executing the cscope configuration - but then it gets it wrong! So my question is: can I set something up in my .vimrc so it does not source the global /etc/vimrc? I don't want to move cscope out of PATH, as I don't want to type the full directory name every time I run it from the command line.

• How to disable Microsoft eHome MCIR Keyboard and company?

  Hi! I'm and unlucky owner of and Acer 7720G laptop which, like many in its category, has receiver for a proprietary infra red remote control device (which I did not receive with my laptop!) . Now my problem is that the receiver is detected as Microsoft eHome MCIR Keyboard, Microsoft eHome MCIR 109 Keyboard and Microsoft eHome Remote Control Keyboard keys. My problem is that this driver has incompatibilities with some programs I use like for example DosBox. When these devices are installed, they cause DosBox to incorrectly detect some keyboard buttons. The workaround is to remove or disable the 3 hardware devices. Unfortunately, I the disable option is grayed out and when I delete them, they are reinstalled on next restart. Is there any way to hack windows in order to prevent their installation? I was thinking about locating the drivers these devices use, but they are buried somewhere in windows installation and I don't have enough experience to find them, so I'm asking you for help.

  The laptop is a recent Dell XPS 15z and the problem is as follows (reproducible about 90% of tries): put laptop to sleep using either Start-Sleep or closing the lid laptop goes to sleep after about 5 seconds, but instantly wakes again showing a black screen (touching the keyboard or moving the mouse shows the login screen one normally gets after wake) login again, put laptop to sleep latop stays in sleep mode output of powercfg -lastwake after the first instant wake shows the audio controller is responsible. • KVM machine does not start ssh, network is started, used to work

  have been searching an pulling my hear out for the last 6 hours. I have a virtual machine that has been running fine for the last six months. I was happy ssh'ing into it and it was running a database and some small apps. Tonight ssh stopped working, so I decided to reboot the machine. I now have the following situation: virsh list --all states machine as running I can ping the machine and get a reply When I ssh to the machine I see "ssh: connect to host [myserver] port 22: Connection refused" nmap does not show port 22 as open I have tried to: - reboot the machine once more (no luck) - mount the filesystem and check /etc/ssh/sshd.conf (has not changed since working situation) - install virsh console, however this does not seem to work When I mount the fs directly using losetup the strange thing is that file dates seem to be frozen in /var/log/ around the time of the crash. If I look in /var/run/ I can see an sshd.pid, but the time is 6 hours ago (and numerous reboots).   My server is running Ubuntu Hardy and Ruby 1.8.6 installed using aptitude. I'd like to upgrade to Ruby 1.8.7 but, unfortunately, the Ruby package includes Ruby 1.8.7 starting from Ubuntu Intrepid. I read a couple of tutorials about how to upgrade to Ruby 1.8.7 and I found at least 3 different way to accomplish this task: backports installation from source installation from source and multiple versions I'm a bit confused. How do you recommend to upgrade to Ruby 1.8.7 taking into consideration I don't need multiple Ruby versions on the same server? I'd like to cleanly replace the existing Ruby 1.8.6 with Ruby 1.8.7.

  Let's say we have a feature request come in and we begin work on it, which we'll call feature-1. It introduces some new logic to the application, which we'll call logic-A and logic-B. A programmer branches from the release branch and begins work on the feature. Soon after, we get another feature request, which we'll call feature-2. It will implement logic-A and logic-C into the application. The logic A being implemented by this feature is the same logic-A as was implemented in feature-1. • Vanilla TeX Live 2009 on Ubuntu

  I installed TeX Live 2009 by following the instructions at http://www.tug.org/texlive/quickinstall. Then, to make my local TeX Live installation work with the Ubuntu package management system, I followed the instructions on http://www.tug.org/texlive/debian.html. That is, I performed the following steps. $ sudo aptitude install equivs $ mkdir /tmp/tl-equivs && cd /tmp/tl-equivs $ equivs-control texlive-local # I replaced the contents of texlive-local by http://www.tug.org/texlive/debian-control-ex.txt $ equivs-build texlive-local $ sudo dpkg -i texlive-local_2009-1~1_all.deb However, when I go about installing kile through the Ubuntu package management system, it requires me to install a lot of dependencies that are already provided by my texlive-local package. Does any one have a suggestion to fix this problem?

  Trying to download Django source package using dget and the .dsc file from here. Then dget fails to verify the source, because it is missing a public key. $ dget https://launchpad.net/ubuntu... • What's the term for re-implementing an old API in terms of a newer API

  The reason for doing it is to solve the case when a newer API is no longer backwards compatible with an older API. To explain, just say that there is an old API v1.0. The maker of this API decides it is broken and works on a new API v1.1 that intentionally breaks compatibility with the old API v1.0. Now, any programs written against the old API cannot be recompiled as-is with the new API. Then lets say there is a large app written against the old API and the developer doesn't have access to the source code. A solution would be to re-implement a "custom" old API v1.0 in terms of the new API v1.1 calls. So the "custom" v1.0 API is actually keeping the same interface/methods as the v1.0 API but inside its implementation it is actually making calls to the new API v1.1 methods. So the large app can be then compiled and linked against the "custom" v1.0 API and the new v1.1 API without any major source code changes. Is there a term for this practice? There's a recent example of this happening in Jamie Zawinski's port of XScreenSaver to the iPhone - he re-implemented the OpenGL 1.3 API in terms of the OpenGL ES 1.1 API. In this case, OpenGL 1.3 represents the "old" API and OpenGL ES 1.1 represents the "new" API.
