  I have installed windows xp on VPC and have installed cygwin-x on that virtual machine. When i run startx command. • unable to install new versions of linux on my PC

  I have an MSI-RC410 motherboard with onboard ATI Radeon XPress 200 series Graphics card. I have used OpenSuse-11.0 on my PC for over an year. but when I tried to upgrade to OpenSuse-11.1, I managed to install it only to find that several features were missing. for example /dev/cdrom was missing. Also install DVD of Fedora 11 did not work. I have also tried Ubuntu-9.10 live cd. When I boot from the CD i get the initramfs command prompt. Still able to install old versions of these OSs. What is the reason for this behavior? Does it have to do anything with the new version of the linux kernel not being compatible with my hardware? What should i do to install new versions of Linux?

  i have 2 server with public ip: SERVER A - 10.10.10.11 SERVER B - 10.10.10.12 both of them are centos 6 in OS, installed nginx with php-fpm, 2 exact same website stored at: /var/www/html. Domain with: myxdomain.com and dns hosted with cloudflare ( since cloudflare do support round robin ) to point the domain to A record of 10.10.10.11 and 10.10.10.12. I know that round robin dns does not cover the failover or fallover, but it does not matter, what i need is: How do i sync the both content of /var/www/html server A and server B to be exactly same? Lets say: 1) user uploaded their file to server A, the file content will be sync to server B as well. 2) user uploaded their file to server B, the file content will be sync to server A as well. rsync will be good choice here? Any example of command line and cronjob time that suitable? thanks

  I installed ZWAMP 1.0.7 (on Windows 7), but I'm having a weird problem. I can't connect to my MySQL server from any PHP script. If I try to use MySQL command line everything works fine but PHPMyAdmin retruns error #2002. I'm not sure whether it's important or not but MySQL server is not able to create socket file. I don't know what's the problem but I think everything is configured in my.cnf properly. Do you have any ideas?

    Yesterday a Developer at work asked for a copy of an SSIS package in Production so he could work on it (please, dear Reader – withhold judgment on Source Control – I know!). I logged on to the SSIS instance, and when I went to export the package… Oops. I didn’t have that password. The DBA who uploaded the package to Production is long gone; my fellow DBA had no idea either - and the Devs returned a cricket sound when queried. So I posed the obligatory question on #SQLHelp and a bunch of folks jumped in – some to help and some to make fun of me (thanks, @SQLSoldier @crummel4 @maryarcia and @sqljoe). I tried their suggestions to no avail…even ran some queries to see if I could figure out how to extract the package XML from the system tables in msdb:   SELECT CAST(CAST(p.packagedata AS varbinary(max)) AS varchar(max)) FROM msdb.dbo.sysssispackages p WHERE p.name = 'LePackage'   This just returned a bunch of XML with encrypted data on it:  I knew there was a job in SQL Agent scheduled to execute the package, and when I tried to look at details on the job step I got the following: Not very helpful. The password had to be saved somewhere, but where?? • Is it possible to run two separate instances (copies, versions) of Audacity?

  What I want is two separate instances of Audacity running in parallel as to separate programs with different settings. I want one to use WASAPI as audio host and speakers as input device (the 2.0.5 portable has the WASAPI option), and the other to use the MME as audio host, and microphone as input device. When opening a new (second) window of the same installation/copy of Audacity, by executing twice the .exe file, it is the same as giving the command 'new' under 'File', what happens is not a second instance, but just a separate project/file and window. When settings are changed in one, they change exactly in the other. When trying to start a second copy of Audacity, or even a second different version, when one is already running, it will also open just a second project/file of the application that is already running, as before.

  I'd like a multi-line zsh prompt with a right alined part, that will look something like this: 2.nate@host:/current/dir 16:00 -> I know about RPROMPT in zsh, but that has a right-aligned prompt opposite your normal prompt, which is on the same line of text as your typing. Is there a way to have a right-aligned portion to the first line of a multi-line command prompt? I'm looking for either a directive in the PS1 variable that says 'right align now' or a variable that is to PS1 what RPROMPT is to PROMPT. Thanks!

• Boot failure after update and system crash 11.10

  I'm using: Dell XPS M1330 laptop, Ubuntu 11.10 32bits, single boot (only Linux OS), Virtualbox (with Windows XP on virtual machine). System crashed while working with a very heavy image on GIMP (and Virtualbox was on). During the same session, I made an automatic system update, but don't know what was exactly updated. After the crash the system doesn't boot. Always freezes on terminal screen but at different stages, ""Starting CUPS printing spooler/server", "Checking battery state", "mountall: plymouth command failed", etc. Sometimes indicates [failed] in some of the processes and sometimes they're all [ok]. Did a Boot info summary with boot-repair and gave me this report http://paste.ubuntu.com/1050743/ This is not a new install, have been using it for almost 6 months...though since last month it couldn't halt..it started shutting down and stopped at black screen with fan on and on/off light still on (I used to finish the shutdown process by forcing halt with a long-press of the power button). I don't know if these has anything to do with the boot failure. Is there anyway I can solve this issue (the boot failure) or make some sort of system check to find out what is the cause of the problem? I wasn't sure if this was the right place to ask the question, so I also did it at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/201004

• ffmpeg trimming video

  I am having a problem using ffmpeg which is driving me a little mad, so I hope someone can help me out. I have a 13 MPEG-4 .mp4 video of which I am attempting to trim the first two seconds off using ffmpeg and display in an Android app. From the numerous tuts online i am excecuting the following on the command line ffmpeg -i untrimmed_video.mp4 -vcodec copy -ss 2 trimmed_video.mp4 with no luck as it outputs a video of 4-seconds length (i have no idea where its getting 4 from), if i change this to 3 i still get a 4 second video, if i set it to 10 i get unplayable output. if i move the -ss arg to ffmpeg -vcodec copy -i untrimmed_video.mp4 -ss 2 trimmed_video.mp4 i get output the same length as the input, same as if i move to the end. I have tried lots of variations as orders and nothing seems to work, is this a bug, am i doing something wrong?! please help!!!

• Change Groupwise 7 User Password from NetWare Server Console

  I have a Groupwise 7 server in place that we use for testing purposes. The previous administrator didn't bother to make a note of any of the account passwords on the machine. I have access to the Server Console...but I can't login via ConsoleOne or anything like that. Is there a command line utility that I can run from the Server Console to reset a Groupwise user password? I just need to have one account up and running for testing. If there's a CLI utility I can use to be able to create a new account, that would work just as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated...I'm kinda stuck at this point.

My ~/.screenrc is identical on all remote hosts and contain the following line: hardstatus string "%H(%n:%t)$USER %h" My ~/.bashrc is also identical on all hosts. When I login to host host_u (Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS) running Screen version 4.00.03jw4 (FAU) 2-May-06, the tab title on the OS X terminal is host_u(1:bash)sds ~, as expected. When I login to host host_c (CentOS release 6.3 (Final)) running Screen version 4.00.03 (FAU) 23-Oct-06, the tab title on the OS X terminal is ~/FooBar (which is the local OS X directory from which I ran the ssh/screen command. Problem: the hardstatus line does not work on host_c.

• Internet is not working in base machine

  I have a Ubuntu desktop. I am running a virtual windows machine using virtual box. Few days before Internet is not working in Ubuntu but it is working in the virtual machine. Even the samba shares are also accessible. I don't know why internet is not working in the base machine. • Cron Permission Denied

  good day, I have a bash script in my home directory that works properly from the command line (file structure is default media temple DV. < noted for certain permission issues) but receive this error from cron: "/home/myFile.sh: line 2: /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomains/techspatch/installation.sql: Permission denied" NOTICE: it's just line 2... it writes to the local server just fine. Below is the Bash File: #!/bin/bash mysqldump -uUSER -pPASSWORD -hHOST dbName> /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomains/techspatch/installation.sql mysql -uadmin -pPASSWORD -hlocalhost dbName< /var/www/vhosts/domain.com/subdomains/techspatch/installation.sql can't chmod from bash (lol, yeah i tried). writing the file there and setting the permissions before the transfer is useless... i have googled the heck out of this situation and this one still seems unique.... any insight is appreciated

• How do I create a .deb file?

  Yes, I know that this question has been asked many times before, but none of the answers really helped. I'd like to package the Minecraft launcher (which has no proprietary code, AFAIK,) into a .deb file so that I can put it on a flash drive and share it with my friends. I have managed to install Minecraft it manually (put some files into /opt/minecraft, download an icon, and create a .desktop file in /usr/share/applications,) and I have made a shell script that completely automates the process, but it relies on wget to retrieve a few files, including the .desktop file. (It isn't a self-extracting archive, after all.) I'd like to be able to do this offline, as a lot of my friends have slow or no internet. (One of their internet lines was buried so shallowly that it actually got knocked out by the lawnmower.) I won't be loading it into a PPA or anything like that; I just want it to be a "formal" package that can be easily installed and uninstalled. (One thing that I would like is for sudo apt-get purge minecraft to also remove the .minecraft folder. It would also be nice to define the dependedcies as being able to accept OpenJDK or Sun's JVM.) Oh, just so you know, the Minecraft launcher is a .jar file, but I can very, very easily launch it via shell scripts. The exact command is right on the download page.

• Backing up Hyper-V VMs using "wbadmin" failing on Windows Server 2012

  I'm trying to backup a single VM using "wbdamin". I'm using this command-line: wbadmin start backup -backupTarget:d: -hyperv:VM_Machine_Name -quiet But the backup have no success. Looking at my Events, I get the following information: Source: SSP Event ID: 16387 Level: Error "Writer Microsoft Hyper-V VSS Writer experienced some error during snapshot creation. More info: ." ============================= Source: Backup Event ID: 521 Level: Error "The backup operation that started at '?2014?-?06?-?11T15:38:44.459000000Z' has failed because the Volume Shadow Copy Service operation to create a shadow copy of the volumes being backed up failed with following error code '0x8100010C'. Please review the event details for a solution, and then rerun the backup operation once the issue is resolved." ============================= Source: VSS No Event Errors. I didn't find any info about "0x8100010C" error code through the web and I'm stuck. Anyone know how to fix this?

Our customers expect grand new features and innovation from major releases, and "Ropsten" will not disappoint. One of the biggest challenges for IT systems is after the fact diagnostics. That is - Once something has gone wrong, the act of trying to figure out why it went wrong. Monitoring a system and keeping track of system health once it is running is considered a hard problem (one that we to some extent help our customers solve already with JRockit Mission Control), but doing it after something occurred is close to impossible. • Can I send some text to the STDIN of an active process running in a screen session?

  I have a long-running server process inside a screen session on my Linux server. It's a bit unstable (and sadly not my software so I can't fix that!), so I want to script a nightly restart of the process to help stability. The only way to make it do a graceful shutdown is to go to the screen process, switch to the window it's running in, and enter the string "stop" on its control console. Are there any smart redirection contortions I can do to make a cronjob send that stop command at a fixed time every day?
