  • Best way to show a loading screen in an iPhone app?

    - by pkulak
    I'm building what is essentially a web app. Every piece of data has to be fetched from a web API. So, every UITableView that I show takes some amount of time to fill with data and I'm struggling to find a good way to show the user a loading screen. Right now I'm popping up an action sheet, but that just seems a bit wrong. Ideally, I'd popup up a blank view over the tableview with "Loading..." on it, then fade it away when the data comes in, but I can't think of a way to do that in 8 places in my app without massive code duplication.

  • WPF component for 2D tree diagram

    - by pdm2011
    I'm looking for a well-documented, supported WPF component that provides an API for visualisation of 2D tree diagrams. Ideally something easy to use, customisable (i.e. supports various flavours of nodes and splines) and preferably with automated layout control. Tools that look good so far are GoXam (http://www.nwoods.com/components/silverlight-wpf/goxam-overview.htm) and yFiles WPF (http://www.yworks.com/en/products_yfileswpf_about.html). Just wondering if anyone has experience with either of these, or can recommend an alternative? Thanks!

  • latin bases language segmentation gramatical rules

    - by pravin
    Hi folks, I am working on one feature i.e. to apply language segmentation rules ( grammatical ) for Latin based language ( English currently ). Currently I am in phase of breaking sentences of user input. e.g.: "I am working in language translation". "I have used Google MT API for this" In above example i will break above sentence by full stop (.) This is normal cases where I am breaking sentence on dot, but there are n number of characters for breaking sentence like ( . ! ? etc ). I have following SRX rules for segmentation. Here my question are :- 1) Is there any reference ? which I can use for resolving my language segmentation rules. 2) Or Is there any forums on language segmentation ? , so that i can discuss efficiently Please let me know if anybody know about this ? Thanks a lot.

  • AES acceleration for Java

    - by chris_l
    I want to encrypt/decrypt lots of small (2-10kB) pieces of data. The performance is ok for now: On a Core2Duo, I get about 90 MBytes/s AES256 (when using 2 threads). But I may need to improve that in the future - or at least reduce the impact on the CPU. Is it possible to use dedicated AES encryption hardware with Java (using JCE, or maybe a different API)? Would Java take advantage of special CPU features (SSE5?!), if I get a better CPU? Or are there faster JCE providers? (I tried SunJCE and BouncyCastle - no big difference.) Other possiblilities?

  • What XSS/CSRF attacks (if any) to be aware of when allowing video embeds?

    - by fireeyedboy
    I've been assigned a project for a website where users will be allowed to upload video's (using a YouTube API) but more importantly (for me) they will also be allowed to submit video embed codes (from numerous video sites, YouTube, Vimeo, etc. etc.). Having no experience with allowing users to embed video: How can I best protect against cross site scripting and/or cross site request forgery attacks specifically for video embedding? What are some of the common pitfalls to watch for? At a minumum I would think to strip all tags except <object> and <embed>. But I have a feeling this will not be enough, will it? If it is of importance, the environment will be: PHP/Zend Framework MySQL Bonuspoints: Is there a common minimum golden rule/code template for video embed codes that are valid across all video sites that I could use to filter the input?

  • Web services Authentication Jungle

    - by redben
    I have been doing some research lately about best approaches to authenticating web services calls (REST SOAP or whatever). But none of the Approaches convinced me... But i still can't a make a choise... Some talk about SSL and http basic authentication -login/password- which just seems weird for a machine (i mean having to assign a login/password to a machine, or is it not ?). Some others say API keys (seems like these scheme is more used for tracking and not realy for securing). Some say tokens (like session IDs) but shouldn't we stay stateless (especially if in REST style) ? In my use case, when a remote app is calling one of our web services, i have to authenticate the calling application obviously, and the call must - if applicable - tell me which user it impersonates so i can deal with authorization later. Any thoughts ?

  • PUT parameters not working in python / google app engine

    - by magegu
    hi, i'm working on a simple RESTful webservice with python with the webapp framework on the google app engine. Basically i'm sending all request via AJAX/jquery - for POST it works like a charm, but when I'm sending data with PUT, the parameters are empty / not processed. this is my PUT: $.ajax({ type: "PUT", url: "/boxes", data: { name: this.name, archived: this.archived }, success: function(msg){ } }); firebug saids i'm putting: Parameter application/x-www-form-urlencoded archived false name 123112323asdasd but using this python code: from google.appengine.ext import webapp from google.appengine.ext.webapp import util, template from google.appengine.ext import db from google.appengine.api.datastore_types import * from django.utils import simplejson as json import cgi import datetime class BoxHandler(webapp.RequestHandler): def post(self): #working print "test" self.response.out.write(self.request.get("name")) def put(self): print "test" #not working self.response.out.write(self.request.get("name")) will just return test Status: 200 OK Content-Type: text/html; charset=utf-8 Cache-Control: no-cache Expires: Fri, 01 Jan 1990 00:00:00 GMT Content-Length: 0 so .. hm, is there anything i'm missing here? cheers, Martin

  • j2ME setLocationListener()

    - by Jeff Catania
    I'm programming a GPS tracking system using the Motorola i335 running on Sprint's IDEN network. I'm using the javax.microedition.location api to find the GPS coordinates. To set up the updating, you use the [setLocationListener][1] method. I originally tried passing (listener,2,1,1). However there was too many invalid locations being received (where the GPS could not get the fix in the specified time), so I changed the parameters to (listener, 20, 20, 1). Now the system barely throws any invalid locations. My goal is to get the fastest number of updates that are realistic. Have any of you found a happy medium for parameters of this method? • Whats the best solution for a database used in conjunction with Maps in Android?

    - by Andrew
    Could someone please point me in the right direction. My project involves a database where users enter their address and other info from my website. This database is then referenced in my android application to show the locations of these addresses in my database. I have yet to start and just came up with this idea. My question is, what would be the best method to create a database easily modified through my website (mySQL, php, etc), and also easily referenced easily through Android and the Google Maps API? I need some ideas on the languages I will need to use to create this database and website so I can go buy the necessary books to start reading up. Thanks so much

  • Where is it appropriate to define inflector rules in CakePHP 1.3?

    - by Daniel Wright
    In CakePHP 1.2, custom inflector rules could be defined in a file app/config/inflections.php. This file was removed in CakePHP 1.3. Instead, the documentation prescribes using the Inflector::rules function to load custom inflections. There's adequate documentation of how to define the custom inflections themselves, but the documentation gives no context—where to use Inflector::rules. Should any custom inflections be defined in the bootstrap.php script? At the top of applicable corresponding controllers? Somewhere else? See also: Configuration: Inflections in the documentation Inflector::rules definition in the API documentation

  • Getting Parent Layout in Qt

    - by Austin
    Hi, quick question. Is there any way to (easily) retrieve the parent layout of a widget in Qt? PS: QObject::parent() won't work, for logical reasons. EDIT: I'm positive the widget has a parent layout, because I added it to a layout earlier in the code. Now, I have many other layouts in the window and while it is possible for me to keep track of them, I just want to know if there is an easy and clean way to get the parent layout. EDIT2: Sorry, "easy and clean" was probably not the best way of putting. I meant using the Qt API. EDIT3: I'm adding the widget to the layout like this: QHBoxLayout* layout = new QHBoxLayout; layout-addWidget(button);

  • Read from POS Devices

    - by Garhwali Bhai
    Hi Experts, What would be the best design for a Java web based application to read Check or Credit Card from POS Devices which are configured/installed at client machine? The design which I have decided is: When cashier selects payment mode as 'Check' or 'Credit Card' open a pop-up. From pop-up, I am calling an Applet through JNLP which implements JPOS API to communicate with POS devices at client machine. When cashier swipes or inserts check, Applet class read them and send the information back to the pop-up window. Pop up window call the parent window, populate all the required field and close the pop-up.

  • Performance characteristics of pthreads vs ucontext

    - by Robert Mason
    I'm trying to port a library that uses ucontext over to a platform which supports pthreads but not ucontext. The code is pretty well written so it should be relatively easy to replace all the calls to the ucontext API with a call to pthread routines. However, does this introduce a significant amount of additional overhead? Or is this a satisfactory replacement. I'm not sure how ucontext maps to operating system threads, and the purpose of this facility is to make coroutine spawning fairly cheap and easy. So, question is: Does replacing ucontext calls with pthread calls significantly change the performance characteristics of a library?

  • XML Parsing in Groovy strips attribute new lines

    - by Bill James
    I'm writing code where I retrieve XML from a web api, then parse that XML using Groovy. Unfortunately, it seems that both XmlParser and XmlSlurper for Groovy strip newline characters from the attributes of nodes when .text() is called. How can I get at the text of the attribute including the newlines? Sample code: def xmltest = ''' <snippet> <preSnippet att1="testatt1" code="This is line 1 This is line 2 This is line 3" > <lines count="10" /> </preSnippet> </snippet>''' def parsed = new XmlParser().parseText( xmltest ) println "Parsed" parsed.preSnippet.each { pre -> println pre.attribute('code'); } def slurped = new XmlSlurper().parseText( xmltest ) println "Slurped" slurped.children().each { preSnip -> println [email protected]() } the output of which is: Parsed This is line 1 This is line 2 This is line 3 Slurped This is line 1 This is line 2 This is line 3

  • Android: Change activity state when receiving a phone call

    - by thetrompf
    Hi. A problem came up in my latest android programming project. The problem is I would like to change Activity that launches when the phone receives a call. Is it possible to add some text after the contact name when a call is received. I have search the web for something that could do that, and been looking in the API for hours and I cannot find anything, is it possible with reflection of something like that? I have made a class that listens to when the phone_state is receiving a call, and I can get the incomming number, but I would like to change the appearance on the screen. // Thanks in advance

  • How do I add multiple joins (Fetches) to a joined table using nhibernate and LINQ ?

    - by ooo
    i have these tables /entities VacationRequestDate table which has a VacationRequestId field that links with VacationRequest table VacationRequest has PersonId and RequestStatusId fields that links with Person and RequestStatus respectively. i have this query so far: IEnumerable<VacationRequestDate> dates = Session.Query<VacationRequestDate>().Fetch(r => r.VacationRequest).ThenFetch(p=>p.RequestStatus).ToList(); this works fine and joins with VacationRequest and then VacationRequest joins with RequestStatus but i can't figure out how to add an additional EAGER join to the VacationRequest table. If i add a Fetch at the end, it refers to the VacationRequestDate table If i add a ThenFetch at the end, it refers to the RequestStatus table I can't find any api that will refer to the VacationRequest table as the reference point. how would you add multiple joins to a joined table using nhibernate LINQ ?

  • Access violation using LocalAlloc()

    - by PaulH
    I have a Visual Studio 2008 Windows Mobile 6 C++ application that is using an API that requires the use of LocalAlloc(). To make my life easier, I created an implementation of a standard allocator that uses LocalAlloc() internally: /// Standard library allocator implementation using LocalAlloc and LocalReAlloc /// to create a dynamically-sized array. /// Memory allocated by this allocator is never deallocated. That is up to the /// user. template< class T, int max_allocations > class LocalAllocator { public: typedef T value_type; typedef size_t size_type; typedef ptrdiff_t difference_type; typedef T* pointer; typedef const T* const_pointer; typedef T& reference; typedef const T& const_reference; pointer address( reference r ) const { return &r; }; const_pointer address( const_reference r ) const { return &r; }; LocalAllocator() throw() : c_( NULL ) { }; /// Attempt to allocate a block of storage with enough space for n elements /// of type T. n>=1 && n<=max_allocations. /// If memory cannot be allocated, a std::bad_alloc() exception is thrown. pointer allocate( size_type n, const void* /*hint*/ = 0 ) { if( NULL == c_ ) { c_ = LocalAlloc( LPTR, sizeof( T ) * n ); } else { HLOCAL c = LocalReAlloc( c_, sizeof( T ) * n, LHND ); if( NULL == c ) LocalFree( c_ ); c_ = c; } if( NULL == c_ ) throw std::bad_alloc(); return reinterpret_cast< T* >( c_ ); }; /// Normally, this would release a block of previously allocated storage. /// Since that's not what we want, this function does nothing. void deallocate( pointer /*p*/, size_type /*n*/ ) { // no deallocation is performed. that is up to the user. }; /// maximum number of elements that can be allocated size_type max_size() const throw() { return max_allocations; }; private: /// current allocation point HLOCAL c_; }; // class LocalAllocator My application is using that allocator implementation in a std::vector< #define MAX_DIRECTORY_LISTING 512 std::vector< WIN32_FIND_DATA, LocalAllocator< WIN32_FIND_DATA, MAX_DIRECTORY_LISTING > > file_list; WIN32_FIND_DATA find_data = { 0 }; HANDLE find_file = ::FindFirstFile( folder.c_str(), &find_data ); if( NULL != find_file ) { do { // access violation here on the 257th item. file_list.push_back( find_data ); } while ( ::FindNextFile( find_file, &find_data ) ); ::FindClose( find_file ); } // data submitted to the API that requires LocalAlloc()'d array of WIN32_FIND_DATA structures SubmitData( &file_list.front() ); On the 257th item added to the vector<, the application crashes with an access violation: Data Abort: Thread=8e1b0400 Proc=8031c1b0 'rapiclnt' AKY=00008001 PC=03f9e3c8(coredll.dll+0x000543c8) RA=03f9ff04(coredll.dll+0x00055f04) BVA=21ae0020 FSR=00000007 First-chance exception at 0x03f9e3c8 in rapiclnt.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x01ae0020.   • Change the ApplicationID of a running process from c#

    - by Nestor
    In Windows 7 we have the concept of ApplicationID, which allows (among other things) to group several icons in the task bar. How can I change the ApplicationID of a running process from c#? I'm trying to make my WinForm app's icon group with another application. I've tried using Windows API Code Pack Library, sticking the following code in my Load event... but it didn't work. Suggestions? TaskbarManager.Instance.ApplicationId = "MyAppID"; Process[] p = Process.GetProcessesByName("OtherProcess"); TaskbarManager.Instance.SetApplicationIdForSpecificWindow(p[0].MainWindowHandle, "MyAppID");

  • How do you enable block folding for Python comments in TextMate?

    - by Dave Gallagher
    In TextMate 1.5.10 r1623, you get little arrows that allow you to fold method blocks: Unfortunately, if you have a multi-lined Python comment, it doesn't recognize it, so you can't fold it: def foo(): """ How do I fold these comments? """ print "bar" TextMate has this on their site on how to customize folding: http://manual.macromates.com/en/navigation_overview#customizing_foldings ...but I'm not skilled in regex enough to do anything about it. TextMate uses the Oniguruma regex API, and I'm using the default Python.tmbundle updated to the newest version via GetBundles. Does anyone have an idea of how to do this? Thanks in advance for your help! :)

  • Creating Dynamic variables from json response

    - by c0mrade
    My JSON response looks like this : {"sample":[{"id":"2","name":"branch name"},{"id":"3","name":"branch name 2"}]} My function looks like this : function getJSONObjects(){ $.getJSON("http://localhost/api/branches", function(data){ $.each(data.sample, function(i,item){ var loc = "branch"; eval("var " + loc + item.id + "=123;"); alert(loc + item.id); }); }); } The idea is to create branch + id object so I can do something with it(create marker on a map), so I tried to assign it any value to see if this was working. I wanted both branch2 and branch3 to alert 123 so I have something to start with. But currently this alerts branch2 and branch3 instead of 123. I have little experience with creating dynamic variables/objects can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong or maybe another approach towards solving this?

In other browsers it seems that the code is not executed at all. Is there a solution for this?
