    I would like to do this: tell application "Finder" to set appName to (application file id "com.google.Chrome") as text using terms from application appName tell application appName to get URL of active tab of first window end using terms from This doesn't work because "using terms from" requires an application name as a string constant. If i substitute this line: using terms from application appName with this one using terms from application "Google Chrome" it works. However I don't want to rely on the target machine having the application named "Google Chrome". Using the bundle identifiers seems safer. Is there a better way to do this?

    I have a site that has certain urls that point to pages with permanent data and others that point to dynamic web pages. Google indexes both these regularly. By the time a user finds one of the dynamic content urls, the data on the page has already changed and the user does not find what he was looking for. Further, the dynamic url pages contains links to the permanent urls (which I want Google or any crawler to index). Google crawler controls (webmaster tools) cannot be made to read urls from a page but not index them. Solutions? crawling strategies *system architecture*.

    Hi, I have the following code: /** Open a browser on the URL specified in the text box */ private void openBrowser() { Uri uri = Uri.parse(urlText.getText().toString()); Intent intent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, uri); startActivity(intent); } When I input "http://www.google.com" to the textbox, it works fine. However, when I try something like "www.google.com" it crashes with: No Activity found to handle Intent { act=android.intent.action.VIEW dat=www.google.com } Am I using Uri wrong? Is there a way to extract full address from it? Or am I supposed to write code that adds http manually? e.g, if not starts with http://, add http://. Thanks!

  • Getting a list of all phone contacts?

    Simple enough question. I need to know the best way to get the same list of contacts that show up when a user presses the Contacts button. You would think something like this would work: //For Contacts Intent pickIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK, People.CONTENT_URI); this.startActivityForResult(pickIntent, RESULT); //For Phones Intent pickIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_PICK, Phones.CONTENT_URI); this.startActivityForResult(pickIntent, RESULT); The problem is that does not include secondary google accounts or Exchange contacts. By secondary accounts, in Android you can add additional gmail accounts to have the mail/contacts synced. The above intent will not list those additional contacts. I am also told that on the HTC Desire you can add contacts to the phone that do not get synced up to Google. These contacts also do not show up. So how do I get a real list of contacts so I can create my own list activity that works properly where the Google intent does not.

    Hi, I want to create a MSWindows Python program that would launch a new Firefox window with multiple tabs each time it is run. For example if I want to search "hello", a new window pops out (even if a Firefox window is already open) and then launches a Google and Bing tabs searching for "hello". If I change the keyword to "world", a new browser pops out again with Google and Bing tabs searching for "world". I've looked at the webbrowser module but couldn't get it to: 1. Launch a new browser when a browser is already open: e.g. webbrowser.open('http://www.google.com',new=1) will instead open a new tab 2.     I have a list of links that all go to a google maps api. the links already have the daddr (destination) parameter in them as static. I am using Geo-Location to find the users position and I want to add the saddr (source address) to the links once I get the data. so basically I will need to add something like &saddr=50.1234567,-50.03452 at the tail end of all the links pointing to google maps All the links have a class called directions-link and from this page I have figured out how to change them: $("a.directions-link").attr("href", "http://www.google.com/"); However I only want to append my value to the end of the href without changing what the href already is. How can I do that? Thanks!!

Now what I want is, if user hit a.example.com OR example.com/X then A application should get invoked. similarly for B and C. b.example.com or example.com/B, c.example.com or example.com/C. like mail.google.com news.google.com. This way the code would only need to be done for the latest version of the browser, but users could still have the functionality of the older version and not be forced to do major updates? I am sure there will be some major flaws in this, and I would like you to tell me what they are! -Obviously, people may not want this as often auto-updating is frowned upon, however Chrome does it (or at least, they used to); Without a manual check, Chrome will update itself automatically, Google said. "Google Chrome will automatically checks for updates approximately every five hours. If an update is available, it will be downloaded and applied at the next browser restart," Google said. -there is still the problem of getting users from the really old ones onto the any new browsers that have this functionality -To prevent exploits in terms of updates, maybe they could have a 7 day opt-in period before being pushed out to everyone?

    Hi, I have an interface named IHarvester. There are 3 implementations of that interface, each under their own namespace: Google Yahoo Bing A HarvesterManager uses the given harvester. It knows the interface and all 3 implementations. I want some way of letting the class user say in which harvester it wants to use. And in the code select that implementation, without a switch-case implementation. Can reflection save my day?     I have a Joomla site with my gmail account (google apps) being used as the SMTP server for sending mails. I also have a newsletter component on this site. I tried sending newsletter to all my subscribers and I noticed that the SMTP server could not be connected to. I then checked the emails of my company and noticed that the one I used to set it up was suspended. I cannot really explain why Google suspended the email account. Please could anyone tell me if Google saw the mails that were being sent as spam.

    Sometimes we’ve entered data in a column in Excel, only to realize later that it would be better to have this data in a row, or vise-versa.  Here’s a simple trick to convert any row or set of rows into a column, or vise-versa, in Excel. Please Note: This is tested in Excel 2003, 2007, and 2010.  Here we took screenshots from Excel 2010 x64, but it works the same on the other versions. Convert a Row to a Column Here’s our data in Excel: We want to change these two columns into rows.  Select all the cells you wish to convert, right-click, and select copy (or simply press Ctrl+C): Now, right-click in the cell where you want to put the data in rows, and select “Paste Special…”   Check the box at the bottom that says “Transpose”, and then click OK. Now your data that was in columns is in rows! This works the exact same for converting rows into columns.  Here’s some data in rows:   After copying and pasting special with Transpose selected, here’s the data in columns! This is a great way to get your data organized just like you want in Excel.   • HLSL How to flip geometry horizontally

    I want to flip my asymmetric 3d model horizontally in the vertex shader alongside an arbitrary plane parallel to the YZ plane. This should switch everything for the model from the left hand side to the right hand side (like flipping it in Photoshop). Doing it in pixel shader would be a huge computational cost (extra RT, more fullscreen samples...), so it must be done in the vertex shader. Once more: this is NOT reflection, i need to flip THE WHOLE MODEL. I thought I could simply do the following: Turn off culling. Run the following code in the vertex shader: input.Position = mul(input.Position, World); // World[3][0] holds x value of the model's pivot in the World. if (input.Position.x <= World[3][0]) input.Position.x += World[3][0] - input.Position.x; else input.Position.x -= input.Position.x - World[3][0]; ... The model is never drawn. Where am I wrong? I presume that messes up the index buffer. Can something be done about it? P.S. it's INSANELY HARD to format code here. Thanks to Panda I found my problem.
