  • Form values in a list item

    Here is the site mock-up I'm working on for my job: http://dev.arm.gov/~noensie/dqhands/cgi-bin/explorer. I'm still a novice in web developing and I need help with placing form values in a list item to pass on to another page. I'd rather not go in great detail the purpose of this website, but in terms of its basic use, select the parameters in the middle column for a request and add it to the list on the right column by pressing on "add request" button when it appears. After the list have been populated, a user would submit the selected requests, which will direct them to another page based on the requests selected (or added to the list, same thing). That last sentence is where I'm having a problem. Right now, each of request in the list in the right column are <li> elements and I assign them attribute values that needed to be passed on to the next page. I tried inserting a hidden input with same values, but I'm still not sure how to utilize that; I'm not even sure using the hidden input is the correct way. Also the "submit request" button is located outside the <form> block. I was going to utilize javascript and jQuery to enable the button to serialize the values in the <form> block, but I don't know quite how to do that. Go ahead and take a look at my javascript code (index.js) and slay me, or, I mean, my code. It's still pretty elementary and short (~260 lines, that's short right?). I will take any help for this problem (as the matter of fact, if you see any other problems or a better way of implementation of something, go ahead and mention that too); tips, advice, code samples, or whatever else you can contribute, it will be greatly appreciated.   • CouchDB, HDFS, HBase or which is right for my situation?

    Hello all, This question is regarding data storage systems such as CouchDB, HDFS and HBase, specifically, which is right. I am looking at making a simple and customized Document Management System for my organization. Basically, we need the ability to store some Word Documents, PDFs and other similar files. I also want to store metadata about these files (e.g., Author, Dates, etc). Usage permissions would also be handy, but that can probably be built using meta-data. I would also need the ability to full-text index. The ability to version, while not required would be extremely useful. I would like the ability to simply add hardware to expand the resources of the system and the system must support Network Attached Storage over the CIFS or NFS protocol(s). I have read about CouchDB, HDFS and HBase. My preferred programming language is C# as all of my end-users will be running Windows machines and I will want to make both web and winforms client implementations. My question is which solution best fits my needs? Based on my research it appears that CouchDB (utilizing the CouchDB-Lounge and CouchDB-Lucene) perfectly fits my needs. However, I am worried that since I have worked with CouchDB that I might be overlooking something useful for my needs in HDFS or HBase or something similar due to a bias. Any and all opinions are welcome as I am looking for the community input as I really do not want to make the wrong choice at the start of my project. Please ask if you need more information. They were sketching out a design and constantly talk of service provider, services and spring. Instead of looking silly by asking them, I just decided to post here. BTW, I am doing device driver development (have been for more than 10 years using C) and NEVER heard of service provider.

  • Logvat viewer in Eclipse flickers annoyingly

    In the logcat viewer in Eclipse, if it is set to filter messages coming from the application I am currently debugging, the list flickers annoyingly. My guess that it reloads the list every time a log message arrives from my device, even if it is not displayed because of the filter. However, it makes reading log messages very hard. Is there any way to counter this bug? Or is there an alternate logcat viewer for Android?

  • How should I unit test a code-generator?

    This is a difficult and open-ended question I know, but I thought I'd throw it to the floor and see if anyone had any interesting suggestions. I have developed a code-generator that takes our python interface to our C++ code (generated via SWIG) and generates code needed to expose this as WebServices. When I developed this code I did it using TDD, but I've found my tests to be brittle as hell. Because each test essentially wanted to verify that for a given bit of input code (which happens to be a C++ header) I'd get a given bit of outputted code I wrote a small engine that reads test definitions from XML input files and generates test cases from these expectations. The problem is I dread going in to modify the code at all. That and the fact that the unit tests themselves are a: complex, and b: brittle. So I'm trying to think of alternative approaches to this problem, and it strikes me I'm perhaps tackling it the wrong way. Maybe I need to focus more on the outcome, IE: does the code I generate actually run and do what I want it to, rather than, does the code look the way I want it to. Has anyone got any experiences of something similar to this they would care to share?

  • Hausman Test, Fixed/random effects in SAS?

    Hey guys, I'm trying to do a fixed effecs OLS regression, a random effects OLS Regression and a Hausman test to back up my choice for one of those models. Alas, there does not seem to be a lot of information of what the code looks like when you want to do this. I found for the Hausman test that proc model data=one out=fiml2; endogenous y1 y2; y1 = py2 * y2 + px1 * x1 + interc; y2 = py1* y1 + pz1 * z1 + d2; fit y1 y2 / ols 2sls hausman; instruments x1 z1; run; you do something like this. However, I do not have the equations in the middle, which i assume to be the fixed and random effects models? On an other site I found that PROC TSCSREG automatically displays the Hausman test, unfortunately this does not work either. When I type PROC TSCSREG data = clean; data does not become blue meaning SAS does not recognize this as a type of data input? proc tscsreg data = clean; var nof capm_erm sigma cv fvyrgro meanest tvol bmratio size ab; run; I tried this but obviously doesn't work since it does not recognize the data input, I've been searching but I can't seem to find a proper example of how the code of an hausman test looks like. On the SAS site I neither find the code one has to use to perform a fixed/random effects model. My data has 1784 observations, 578 different firms (cross section?) and spans over a 2001-2006 period in months. Any help?

  • How can I randomly iterate through a large Range?

    I would like to randomly iterate through a range. Each value will be visited only once and all values will eventually be visited. For example: class Array def shuffle ret = dup j = length i = 0 while j > 1 r = i + rand(j) ret[i], ret[r] = ret[r], ret[i] i += 1 j -= 1 end ret end end (0..9).to_a.shuffle.each{|x| f(x)} where f(x) is some function that operates on each value. A Fisher-Yates shuffle is used to efficiently provide random ordering. My problem is that shuffle needs to operate on an array, which is not cool because I am working with astronomically large numbers. Ruby will quickly consume a large amount of RAM trying to create a monstrous array. Imagine replacing (0..9) with (0..99**99). This is also why the following code will not work: tried = {} # store previous attempts bigint = 99**99 bigint.times { x = rand(bigint) redo if tried[x] tried[x] = true f(x) # some function } This code is very naive and quickly runs out of memory as tried obtains more entries. What sort of algorithm can accomplish what I am trying to do? [Edit1]: Why do I want to do this? I'm trying to exhaust the search space of a hash algorithm for a N-length input string looking for partial collisions. Each number I generate is equivalent to a unique input string, entropy and all. Basically, I'm "counting" using a custom alphabet. [Edit2]: This means that f(x) in the above examples is a method that generates a hash and compares it to a constant, target hash for partial collisions. I do not need to store the value of x after I call f(x) so memory should remain constant over time. [Edit3/4/5/6]: Further clarification/fixes.

  • Restful WCF Service - how to send data with illegal XML characters?

    I have a RESTful WCF web service. One of my methods has several input parameters. One of the input parameters is a string. Some times the data I am passing to this web method will include content that has one or more "illegal characters" - i.e. "&". So, I replace this with &amp; before passing it to the web service - but it still throws an exception. The exception isn't visible, as the data never reaches the web service, but I know that it is this content that is causing the problem, as I have done several tests sending data that doesn't contain an illegal XML character, and every time it worked, but any data containing "&" will fail. Am I not supposed to replace "&" with &amp;?   • Faster integer division when denominator is known?

    hi I am working on GPU device which has very high division integer latency, several hundred cycles. I am looking to optimize divisions. All divisions by denominator which is in a set { 1,3,6,10 }, however numerator is a runtime positive value, roughly 32000 or less. due to memory constraints, lookup table is not option. Can you think of alternatives? I have thought of computing float point inverses, and using those to multiply numerator. Thanks

  • jQuery date picker not persistant after AJAX

    So I'm using the jQuery date picker, and it works well. I am using AJAX to go and get some content, obviously when this new content is applied the bind is lost, I learnt about this last week and discovered about the .live() method. But how do I apply that to my date picker? Because this isn't an event therefore .live() won't be able to help... right?   • mySQL ORDER BY ASC works, DESC does not...

    I've "integrated" SMF into Wordpress by querying the forum for a list of the most recent videos from a specific forum board and displaying them on the Wordpress homepage. However when I add the ORDER BY clause, the query (which I tested on other parts of the same page successfully), breaks. To add to the mix, I am using the Auto Embed plugin to allow the videos to be played on the homepage, as well as using a jCarousel feature to rotate them. People were kind enough to help me here last time with the regexp to filter the video urls, I'm hoping for the same luck this time!   • Binary Search Tree - Postorder logic

    I am looking at implementing code to work out binary search tree. Before I do this I was wanting to verify my input data in postorder and preorder. I am having trouble working out what the following numbers would be in postorder and preorder I have the following numbers 4, 3, 14 ,8 ,1, 15, 9, 5, 13, 10, 2, 7, 6, 12, 11, that I am intending to put into an empty binary tree in that order. The order I arrived at for the numbers in POSTORDER is 2, 1, 6, 3, 7, 11, 12, 10, 9, 8, 13, 15, 14, 4. Have I got this right? I was wondering if anyone here would be able to kindly verify if the postorder sequence I came up with is indeed the correct sequence for my input i.e doing left subtree, right subtree and then root. The order I got for pre order (Visit root, do left subtree, do right subtree) is 4, 3, 1, 2, 5, 6, 14 , 8, 7, 9, 10, 12, 11, 15, 13. I can't be certain I got this right.     How can I convert a Drawable to a Bitmap? I would like to set a certain drawable as the device's wallpaper, but all wallpaper functions accept Bitmaps only (I cannot use WallpaperManager - I'm pre 2.1). Also, my drawables are downloaded from the web and do not reside in R.drawable. Thanks, Rob

  • Preferences bundle -- iPhone vs. Simulator

    I have a preferences bundle that exhibits different behavior in the simulator vs the phone. The basic problem is that the default values of my preferences are getting read fine on the simulator but are coming up NULL on the iPhone. Is there some kind of special initialization I have to do for the device in order for these to be seen there? Thanks in advance for any insights!
