• Hide .desktop files from shares in VirtualBox

  I share my desktop with VirtualBox. It allows me to work on current files in a nice easy way. I have quite a few utility launchers on my desktop. It's only a dozen or so at peak time but it makes navigating the list of real files a little harder when I'm working from Windows. I was wondering if there was a way of excluding the files from the share. Either at VirtualBox (I've no idea where it keeps its samba configuration -- or if it actually uses samba at all for that matter) or in Windows.

  As a semester project, I have the following specification: Write a simple single threaded ftp server. The ftp server is configurable from a configuration file. The config allows to set the interface (where the server listens), the roots of the served content, transfer log, and database of users and its passwords. The server allows to create a virtual filesystem. By a virtual filesystem, we mean a mapping of a served directory to the real directory on the filesystem. For example, the client tree will look like: /home/user1 maps to /mnt/x/home/user1 /www maps to /var/cache/www /home/user_list.txt maps to /var/ftpclient/user_list.txt The user will see /home/user1 directory and /www directory and the file /home/user_list.txt The course is in C++. The projects to this point have provided a lot of structure, such as a class header file to get you started on the program. My question is this: how can I get started on what seems like quite a massive project (I have 3 weeks to return a working implementation)?

• Ubuntu 12.04 - what is it with the keyboard layout resets?

  so, on each reboot my keyboard always resets to US (!?) sudo dpkg-reconfigure keyboard-configuration gives temporary relief. Is there a way to make it permanent? I tried: sudo dpkg-reconfigure console-setup This did not work, and on reboot gnome3 was no longer responsive so I am back to gnome classic.... Versions: ClearCase: 7.1.1.2 Team Foundation Server: 2012 RTM Integration Tools: 2.2.20314.1 OS: Windows 2008 R2 ENT SP1 I was able to do a simple example migration of a few files by using the following approach: Using a dynamic view Creating a view shortcut drive (i.e. Z:\) Running the tools as a UI client (not as a windows service) Running the tools UI in user mode (do not “Run as Administrator”) Using the CC detailed history adapter Selecting the view shortcut drive (i.e. Z) on the Tools UI Connect to CC dialog Selecting the “Detect Changes in CC” option on the Tools UI Connect to CC dialog Changing the DisableTargetAnalysis value to True on the Tools UI configuration view I have yet to perform actual migrations for real projects, but will update this blog as I do.

  JavaFX 2.2.4 and JDK 7u10 were released on Tuesday. In addition to the release documentation, the following new information is provided: A new document, Using the Image Ops API, describes how to read and write raw pixel data to and from JavaFX images. The Handling JavaFX Events document has been updated with more information on touch events. The Working with Touch Events chapter and Touch Events sample provide information about handling individual touch points to provide sophisticated responses to touch actions. The Implementing Best Practices document has been updated to include information about running tasks on background threads. The Troubleshooting section of Deploying JavaFX Applications now includes a section about disabling the automatic proxy configuration in your application code. • Where can I get the 11.04 kernel .config file?

  I'm using Maverick with the latest available kernels on kernel.org and building them myself. Until now I've been basing my configuration off the stock Maverick kernel and accepting the make oldconfig defaults. I've been doing this for 3 major releases now so I figure I'm starting to slip behind the current "standard". I would like to re-base my kernels off the new Natty .config file. Is this available somewhere online or do I have to download the whole kernel package and extract it? Edit: I've manually pulled in the config from the latest Natty kernel package and I can confirm that I propbably should have done this sooner. A lot of differences between my old "evolved" config and the Natty default. Now if I could just do this without 20 minutes of hunting and downloading the package so I can re-base in the future.

• Load Web Pages Problem- Using Firefox and Chromium

  Basicly my problem emerges when I try to load Facebook and Yahoomail, I don't know why Both browsers Firefox and Chromium don't load these webpages, but this problem only happen with UBUNTU, when I'm in windows no problem. Note: The other webpages like youtube, gmail etc load without any problem. I've tried these following quikcly solutions: -delete cookies, history and Temp files -return the browser to their original settings -desintall and install the browsers -Change the DNS configuration Nothing has been successfull. I need your help guys. What should I do?

• PHPmyedit: custom URL for 'ADD' button [on hold]

  I'm currently working with phpmyedit and I need to access to the 'Add' (new record) function using a URL. As this script (phpmyedit) is dinamically generated, when I press the 'Add' button, I get the form to fill but the URL has no changes. How can I create some custom URL for the ADD button, that allows me to access externally and also pass parameters through the URL? I.E.: When 1Client make a click on his clientSide(browser), there paints one point, and on the same time the 2Client sees what 1Client did. And, in turn, where 2Client make a click on his browser, there paints one point, and the 1Client also sees what 2Client did. I could done already the configuration of IIS, I made an simple show Hello World and it run OK. And, further, what should i done.... Can you advice me, please, with some exemples, or tutorials, how to do this job. Sorry for my questions which seems to be not studied.

  I have the following configuration: sda1 1 GB maybe fat32 (windows recovery partition) sda2 40 GB ntfs(windows drive c) with boot flag sda3 around 100GB ntfs(storage partition) sda4 extended partition:sda5 10 GB ext4 partition sda6 1 GB linux swap I want to make this changes: sda2 30 GB resize(decrease size with 10 GB) sda3 around 100GB(move and maybe decrease size with 4-5 GB) sda4 around 20-22 GB (move and increase size with 10-15GB) sda5 around 20 GB (move and increase size with 10-12 GB) sda6 2 GB (move and increase size with 1 GB) Is it safe to do this operations?Will i lose grub? I will do the changes with gparted on puppy linux live usb. Thanks

• Ubuntu 11.10 boot: xhost: unable to open display

  I've had this papercut for a while now, it's time it was fixed. When I boot up Ubuntu, choosing "Ubuntu...generic" from the grub screen, Ubuntu fails to load. It just sits at the driver/module loading screen. What seems to be the most significant line in this output is "xhost: unable to open display" If I choose "Ubuntu...(recovery mode)" from grub then it loads OK. I don't get why this is. Out of interest I tried enabling boot error logging with #/etc/default/bootlogd BOOTLOGD_ENABLE=Yes but I'm not seeing anything in that file. ETA: I've had this problem since fresh install of 11.10. • Display settings problems with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS

  For whatever reason (this was working correctly on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) when I try to set my displays on top of each other in the settings, it won't allow to place them on top of each other. When I click "apply" I get the error message "Could Not Set Configuration Mode for CRTC 63." Can anybody help me with this? It wont let me set the two displays on top of each other, but it will allow me to place them side to side. Also, I get a random "Unknown display" as well. This was not existent in 12.04 LTS and I have no idea what it is, seeing as how the only screens that are in use, or plugged up for that matter, is my laptop's display (1366x768) and my Samsung TV display (1360x768) thru HDMI.

• Wine doesn't work (Problem with the mount manager)

  I didn't know exactly when the problem occurred. My Wine worked well a couple days ago. Then, I was just about to install some Windows programs hours ago but I got nothing. No installer window showed up, and no error report. It just won't work. And now I just found where the problem is (screenshot below), but I don't know how to fix it. Any idea?   We have a Microsoft Team Foundation Server (Single Server Installation, i.e. Microsoft SQL Server 2008, Microsoft Windows SharePonint Services 3.0) installed on a Windows Server 2008 machine. The TFS works fine, but there are error events logged frequently: Log Name: Application Source: Microsoft-Windows-CertificateServicesClient-CredentialRoaming Event ID: 1005 Level: Error Description: Certificate Services Client: Credential Roaming failed to write to the Active Directory. Error code 5 (Access is denied.) The problem is clear (the error message is quite precise) but I don't have a clue how to fix it! Where has the access to be granted? What permissions have to be set?

  I'm trying to add the RRAS VPN roles into my server 2012 box. The error I am getting is: install-windowsfeature : The request to add or remove features on the specified server failed.   While running Office 2007 Ultimate Setup on Windows 7 box, I get this error message - "Setup cannot find PowerPoint.en-us\PptLR.cab". This file is very much present in the setup folder. It gives me an option to choose the correct path of this file, but when I browse and navigate to the folder containing this file, it doesn't show me the CAB file for selection. I tried installing both from DVD and also running setup from hard disk location. The same setup media was used earlier for installation on Vista without any issues!

  The following error is preventing me from cloning a Windows 7 64bit computer. Unable to create a VSS snapshot of the source volume(s). Error code: 2147754754 (0x80042302) I'm using VMWare vCenter Converter Standalone Client 4.0.1. Any ideas on what might be causing this? When I checked the services running, I noticed that the Volume Shadow Copy Service was set to manual. So I started the service and switched it to automatic. It still didn't work after that. I checked the event logs and I got the following errors: Event ID: 22 Description: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: A critical component required by the Volume Shadow Copy service is not registered. This might happened if an error occurred during Windows setup or during installation of a Shadow Copy provider.   Search Crawling is error out on my MOSS 2007 installation. I get the following error for all the web apps I have following error in Crawl logs. http://mysites.devserver URL could not be resolved. The host may be unavailable, or the proxy settings are not configured correctly on the index server. The Application Event log also has the following corresponding error The start address http://mysites.devserver cannot be crawled. Context: Application 'SSPMain', Catalog 'Portal_Content' Details: The URL of the item could not be resolved. The repository might be unavailable, or the crawler proxy settings are not configured. To configure the crawler proxy settings, use the Proxy and Timeout page in search administration. (0x80041221) I'm using Windows 2008 server. I tried accessing the site using the above mentioned url and its available. I did the registry setting for loop back issue found here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861 still not luck. Any Ideas?

• Random Windows application crashes on Windows Server Hyper-V Core 2012

  We're having some issues with our Hyper-V Core 2012 R2 installation on a HP DL360G8. We have an identical server with Hyper-V Core 2012 (not R2) that does not have these issues. When logging off from the physical server/via remote desktop, we sometimes get this error: Configure-SMRemoting.exe - Application Error : The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application. We've also once or twice seen a "memory could not be read" error mentioning LoginUI.exe (another Windows app in System32) but have been unable to get an exact description. It's rather worrying to get such errors on a fresh install of Hyper-V 2012 R2. Is this even anything to worry about? Things we've done: Memtest86+, no memory errors Checksummed the file that is crashing with the one in the verified correct ISO, files match Server firmware upgrade to latest firmware of all present hardware, no visible changes Remade the RAID5 array , no change Reinstalled a few times, no change Reinstall without applying Windows updates after, no change
