• Escaping quotes twice in PHP

  Hello, I have a complicated form where I first have to take some _GET parameters and obviously I have to do a mysql_real_escape_string() on them since I look stuff up in the database with them. Them problem for me is after the initial db lookup. When the user submits a form, I send them along as a _POST request and obviously have to do this mysql_real_escape_string call again just in case someone tries to hack my site with a faked form submission. Then the problem I have is the arguments are escaped twice and my queries begin to look strange like this: select field1 , field2 , from my_table where some_id = \'.$lookup_id.\' ... So the system seems to be adding \' and it is messing me up :) Also, in my other forms I have not seen such behavior. Any ideas on what may be causing this? One weird thing is that I tried to send unescaped parameters to the post, and the same problem happens. That is a clue, but not a sufficient one for me. :( Thanks, Alex

• YAHOO.util.Connect.asyncRequest does not work in Safari

  When I request a webpage using YAHOO.util.Connect.asyncRequest in Safari I always get Communication Failure message in callback's failure properties statusText. The same method works in IE. What could be wrong here? Here is the code. When the code is executed I always get two alerts: "Three" and "communications failure undefined" (corresponding to the second alert in the failure part below.) Also when I attach the debugger and put break point in the SAProvision.aspx's page load event, the break point is not hit. So it is sure that in safari the page is not being called. • Wicket and a rich ajax website: easiest way to do it?

  I want to use Wicket to build an application, but I have some designers that would like to write/maintain the javascript, and they basically expect 1 JS-segment per page, and a global JS-file. I think the most natural way to add javascript in wicket is to add it per component (not per page), which would create problems for those designers (fractioned javascript, and having to write it in java-files). Is there a better way to solve this? (of course, I expect things to work after a partial refresh.) And a second (related) thing they'd like (and I'd like actually) is the possibility to request information in JSON-format through a static link , is this possible in Wicket?

• Web app implementation question.

  I would like to create a web app similar to Stack Overflow in that the users will have different "point" levels and that their capabilities within the web app will be different based upon their point level. Question: How can this best be implemented? How can it be implemented in a way that is un-hackable (i.e. accessing capabilities that should not be available)? I figure there are two ways to do this: server-side and client-side. For the server-side solution, for each page request you check who the user is and have the CGI rewrite the page so that the client only gets a web page with the intended capabilities. For the client-side solution, the server gives the client the fully capable app and it is the client's job to check the point level and to handicap the app appropriately. It seems like the client-side solution would be easier on the server, (which is really important for my app), but more susceptible to someone hacking and using capabilities unwarranted by their point level.

• Figuring out the resource a lock in SQL Server 2000 affects

  I am adding a simple web-interface to show data from a commercial off the shelf (COTS) application. This COTS issues locks on any record the user is actively looking at (whether they intend to edit and update it or not). I have found sp_lock and the Microsoft sp_lock2 scripts and can see the locks, so that's all well and good. However, I cannot figure out how I can tell if a specific record I am about to update has been affected by one of these locks. If I submit the update request and there is in fact a lock, the web-interface will wait indefinitely until the user closes the window in the COTS. How can I either: a) determine before issuing an update that the record has been locked OR b) issue an update that will immediately return with a LOCKED status rather than indefinitely waiting on the COTS user to close their window on that record?

• How can I get an image too big from a server?

  I'm currenty developing for blackberry and just bumped into this problem as i was trying to download an image from a server. The servlet which the device communicates with is working correctly, as I have made a number of tests for it. But it gives me the 413 HTTP error ("Request entity too large"). I figure i will just get the bytes, uhm, portion by portion. How can i accomplish this? • Which messaging services can BlackBerry apps integrate with?

  I'm in charge of having a BlackBerry app developed that translates the contents of a message from one language to another. So the aim would be to have a button at the bottom of a received message which says 'translate this'. I've heard that this kind of thing is possible using J2ME plus the native BlackBerry API. Can this be done for all kinds of messanging features on the Blackberry, or just some? ie I'm thinking SMS, email and BB messages. Secondly, given that the translation itself is done via a web request, I feel like this should be a fairly lightweight application. Would anyone care to hazard a guess how long it might take an experienced contractor to develop such an app?

  I'm writing a web app that will use twitter as its primary log on method. I've written code which gets the oauth token back from Twitter. My plan is now to Find the entry in my Users table for the twitter username retreived using the token, or create the entry if necessary Update the Users.TwitterOAuthToken column with the new OAuth token Create a permanent cookie with a random guid on the site and insert a record into my UserCookies table matching Cookie to User when a request comes in I will look for the browser cookie id in the UserCookies table, then use that to figure out the user, and make twitter requests on their behalf Write the oauth token into some pages as a js variable so that javascript can make requests on behalf of the user If the user clears his/her cookies the user will have to log in again to twitter Is this the correct process? Have I created any massive security holes? thanks!

  I have been looking around for hours trying to find a clear simple solution to my question and have yet to find a good answer. I am trying to do a URL request in flash to my NOPCommerce site. I want to pass a GET value to the my .cs file which i'll then use that value to grab specific information and return it back to flash. How would I set up the C# or asp.net side of things? If anyone could give me an example of what I am looking for I would greatly appreciate it. I don't know if I am supposed to use a .aspx, .cs or .ascx file. Thanks, Brennan

  i was running a test remotely on internet explorer, and when using navigate().to() selenium returns me this: "12:13:58.770 INFO - WebDriver remote server: Exception: The driver reported that the command timed out. • CSS Sprites : Mysterious Concept Explored ?

  I have 3 different images and now I want to create an sprite using css so that I am reducing HTTP Request. I am totally new to this concept and have not idea as to how to approach this. Can anyone suggest me what would be best bet for me ? Also I have seen there are some CSS Sprite generator engines where in you submit .zip folder containing your images and than they would combine it. I tried doing that but did not understood of what was happening and so any guidance regarding creating and using CSS sprites would be highly appreciated. Update: I have gone through the AList Part but it was not very clear to me. Can anyone explain the use case of CSS Sprites using an example ? Thanks.

• Are global comment systems a privacy concern?

  I more and more see these global login-once comment-everywhere systems on every page. I didn't do my homework of tinkering debugging and search before asking, so my question is as follows: You login on site A and leave a comment. Now you go on site B, which uses the same global comment system. At the bottom of the page a request form with your name and data appears for you to add a comment on B page. You don't leave any comment and browse away. Does the global-comment provider get information about the fact that you visited page B, even if you don't leave any comment ? I will dig into the code as soon as I have time, but in the meanwhile I would like to ask your insights on this regard.

• Connection: Keep-Alive and PHP sessions not working

  We have a VB application that needs to run an specific flow on a PHP page. This application was correctly catching the PHPSESSID cookie and using it for all subsequent requests. However, PHP wasn't able to restore any changes made on $_SESSION variable. The variable was changed, saved, and on the next request it was restored as an empty array. We found out that changing the Connection header from "Keep-Alive" to "Close" fixed the issue. I couldn't find anything on the web saying that PHP sessions shouldn't be restored under Keep-Alive connections. Does anyone know why this was happening? PS: We didn't find anything weird or different on Apache, ModSecurity or PHP configuration settings.

• MVC partial page update

  Hello, I have an MVC project where I have a form with fields a user can enter and save. On that same page I have a table which shows a brief listing of information that the user just saved. The problem I am having is trying to update only the table after a save and not an entire page refresh. Is this possible in jquery or MVC? If so does anyone have an example. • Changing gmail Settings with Ruby

  I need to configure my gmail account(s) programmatically with Ruby. I checked out the apps api and it looks like the simplest possible solution would be to use ClientLogin for logging in and a simple XML PUT for changing the forwarding setting, for example. I wrote a little test script like so: http://gist.github.com/373457 It would appear that the call to ClientLogin works because it comes back with an Auth= token. When it sends the PUT request to google, however, it comes back with a RestClient::Unauthorized exception. I rewrote the script with pure net/https and it turns out the message I'm getting is invalid token, yet I can't figure out what is wrong with my token. Can anyone else see it?

• Serialize a C# class to binary be used by C++. How to handle alignment?

  I am currently serializing a C# class into a binary stream using BinaryWriter. I take each element of the class and write it out using BinaryWriter. This worked fine as the C++ application reading this binary file supported packed structs and hence the binary file could be loaded directly. Now I have got a request to handle alignment as a new application has popped up which cannot support packed structs. What's the best way to convert the C# class and exporting it out as a binary keeping both 2 byte as well as 4 byte alignment in mind? The user can choose the alignment.

• how to force onLayout

  Hi i want to design a custom View where I need to recalculate my layout and redraw when user changes something. To force a onLayout(), the only solution that works for me until now is: onLayout(true, 0, 0, 0, 0); invalidate(); Of course that gives me a lint error and I have to add a @SuppressLint("WrongCall"). So there must be a smarter solution. Calls of forceLayout or requestLayout didn't work. Probably they only put a request on a stack but don't react immediately. As my view has no child elements and I do the drawing inside all by myself, could be I'm bypassing some Android design guides and abusing some principles. Can live with the lint error but maybe someone already found a solution. Thanks!

• Loading HTML5 video on iPad via onclick event tied to a div

  I'm developing an HTML5 application (a game), that automatically preloads 5 video files. I'm able to do so correctly on Safari for PC, so there are no overlooked problems with file formats, codecs or such. The load fails on an iPad. As an official guide for video on iOS puts it: This means the JavaScript play() and load() methods are also inactive until the user initiates playback, unless the play() or load() method is triggered by user action. In other words, a user-initiated Play button works, but an onLoad="play()" event does not. Does this mean, that I have no means to initiate the loading of video after a user initiated action, if that action hasn't been tied to a video element (user clicked on a regular div — I request loading and displaying of a video, compared to the user actually clicking on a video element to load and play that particular element)?   Lets say I have 2 activities: A: A ListView displaying articles titles. Data is fetched from a web server and converted from XML to a list of ArticleSummary. Only user titles and id are returned by the server. Click on a title starts activity B. B: A form to edit an article. Article is fetched from server. When the user hits OK, modifications are sent to the server and activity closed. When the user go back to activity A, I would like to update the article title without any additional web request. I was thinking about the following solution: When article is modified, send a broadcast event with article id and new attributes values. Listen for this event on activity A Update the ArticleSummary object notify data changed on ListView Is there a better approach ?

  Hello, I have an user view model that has the following properties: public User user; public List<Language> Languages; I send the above model to the view and use html helpers to build the form, so I end up with something like: <form action="/Users/Edit/5" method="post"><input id="user_UserId" name="user.UserId" type="hidden" value="5" /> First Name Last Name Email Language - en en Now, I try to read the POST in something that initially was something like : [AcceptVerbs( HttpVerbs.Post )] public ActionResult Edit( int UserId, FormCollection form ) { and cannot get the user.UserId variable, user.FirstName variable etc. Any idea what needs to be done to be able to read this kind of POST request. I'm kind of reluctant to modifying my ViewModel as it is very simple and easy to maintain as it is. Thank you.
