  • which layout engine for finding coordinates of html elements on the web page?

    I am doing some web data classification task and was thinking if I could get the co-ordinates of html elements as they would appear on a web-browser without taking into consideration any css or javascript being referred in the web page. My language of programming is c++ and the need results for a couple million of pages, so it has to be fast. I know there is a Microsoft COM component which renders the page in a web browser control and then can be queried for position of different html tags. But this is not suitable in my case as it first renders the whole page which takes up a lot of time. So as I found out, there are open-source layout engines WebKit, Gecko that can probably be used for this. But that's a huge piece of code and I need someone to direct me to the right classes or right modules to look into or any previous/similar work someone has done previously. Also, please let me know what you guys think is a good choice if I want to customize the existing code for use with multiple threads to make it faster. Thanks

    I have load balanced web servers, that with the existing code base, handles when a user logs into the site. I would like to send a broadcast message to any applications that have subscribed saying 'hey x logged in' ? So have many web servers and many applications subscribing. How does discovery work/configuration work with nservicebus ? Should each application know about each web server and subscribe individually or is this where the distributer comes in, so web servers all send to the 1 distributer and all application subscribe to single distributer and the distributer relays the message ?     I am trying to create a set of WCF web services for an existing website that uses web site instead of a web application project. I would like to create a DLL that I drop into the Bin folder instead of writing all my code inside the App_Code directory. Ideally, I want to create a project and reference it from the web site, but I am running into a difficult situation. The DLL will need to reference configuration and other DLLs located inside the bin folder of the website causing a circular reference. How do I get around this issue?

One goal is for example to provide http request routing, so they are automatically sent to appropriate controllers. From architectural point of view, web framework based on MVC pattern are more suitable for REST. What other features of web frameworks are helpful by building apps satisfying the REST constraints? Is there any reason why you consider certain languages(python/java) or web frameworks(django/turbogears/jersey/restlets/...) as the most applicable ones?

  • Issues running python scripts in Command Prompt (Specifically with command line arguments)?

    I am trying to run my python scripts in DOS without calling python.exe first. I am specifically doing this in relation to running django-admin.py. I have C:\Python26 and C:\Python26\Scripts in my PATH. However, if I try running django-admin.py by doing: django-admin.py startproject helloworld I get the message: Type 'django-admin.py help' for usage. Now, after some experimentation, I realized the problem is that the secondary arguments to these scripts are not being passed for some reason, since I tried it with a some other python scripts I have. I know I could avoid this problem by simply doing: python C:\Python26\Scripts\django-admin.py startproject helloworld But I know it should be possible to run the first command only and get it to work, because I had it working before. I've looked everywhere, and not many places have been helpful so any idea would be useful for me at this point.

    Are you aware of any online service or online "platform" allowing users, not previously registered, to upload pairs of picture+comment to a database? It would be a collaborative database of picture+comment pairs. I'm not going wiki or googlegroup, picasa or such because I'd like the user to have the least to do to participate, that is e.g.: take a picture with his phone and email it to an email to an email address. Or go to a web page with an upload form, type in a description, hit OK and that's it. And the goal is also that it be as hassle-less to put up as possible. Yeah I know, it can't programme itself to my requirements :) by I'm suspecting there's a tool or tool combination going a decent way through my needs. Thanks for any info/advice!     I have a Voip Softphone software that I would like to start using on my Ubuntu 14.04 box. Here's the thing. My system sound right now goes through my HDMI to my speaker system so I can play music all day ;-) I have a bluetooth headset connected to the machine as well. What I am wondering is if there is a way to: Auto-mute the music when a call comes in Auto-switch the sound devices when a call comes in, from my hdmi sound device, to my headset Auto-switch back when the call ends, and auto-un-mute the music Or even just an auto-switch to the headset? I can always pause the music ;)

  • Does it make sense to use jQuery in modern-webkit-only web applications?

    I'm lately working on a few mobile web apps for Android (2.3+) and iOS (4+). Their browsers support most of ECMAScript5, which is very powerful, and I wanted to use language features where possible, resorting to jQuery only when I had to. Turns out the only thing I use jQuery for is to have a shorter alternative for document.querySelectorAll. Might as well get rid of it. If I only have to support modern WebKit browsers, is it a good idea to get rid of jQuery (and other general-purpose libraries)? They are a layer of indirection, after all. (The apps don't have to make AJAX calls so far, I guess that's one thing that's going to get ugly. But is it worth keeping jQuery just for that?)

    I'm trying to implement my own version of the 'cd' command that presents the user with a list of hard-coded directories to choose from, and the user has to enter a number corresponding to an entry in the list. The program, named my_cd.py for now, should then effectively 'cd' the user to the chosen directory. Example of how this should work: /some/directory $ my_cd.py 1) ~ 2) /bin/ 3) /usr Enter menu selection, or q to quit: 2 /bin $ Currently, I'm trying to 'cd' using os.chdir('dir'). However, this doesn't work, probably because my_cd.py is kicked off in its own child process. I tried wrapping the call to my_cd.py in a sourced bash script named my_cd.sh: #! /bin/bash function my_cd() { /path/to/my_cd.py } /some/directory $ . my_cd.sh $ my_cd ... shows list of dirs, but doesn't 'cd' in the interactive shell Any ideas on how I can get this to work? Is it possible to change my interactive shell's current directory from a python script?

    Recently I started working on a Web turn-based PvP RPG game. Now I'm working on the battle system but I encountered some issues: How can I keep track of everything that happens in the battle? It should keep track of the characters on the field, inventory, the damage done etc. I first thought I would simply put it in the (MySQL) database, but I think it will be too much. Especially if several people are in a battle. I thought of puting this in sessions or cookies but I don't think thats reliable. Does anyone have an idea how I can do this?

I mean, is it patented or protected in any way that would prevent me from building my own implementation? I effectively would like to copy the visible part of it. I like to idea of being able to: Provide an interface which is used somewhere else (as in 1 less to learn) Use the interface that has been tested for usability (I personally like it) Have the possibility of getting free publicity because of implementing full Metro style web application while not associated with Microsoft, etc.

    I'm currently writing a wrapper in python for a lot of custom company tools. I'm basically going to break each tool into its own py file with a class containing the call to the tool as a method. These will all be contained in a package. Then there'll be a master class that will import all from the package, then inherit from each and every class, so as to appear as one cohesive class. masterClass.py pyPackage - __ init__.py - module1.py --class Module1 ---method tool1 - module2.py --class Module2 ---method tool2 etc Right now, I'm autogenerating the master class file to inherit from the packages modules, but I was wondering if there was a more elegant way to do it? ie from package import * class MasterClass(package.all): pass

    If i try to open a created url i get an 500 error. My procedure was: First python manage.py startapp black I added in project/settings.py under INSTALLED_APPS 'black', I added in project/urls.py url(r'^test/', include('black.urls')), Content of black/urls.py is: from django.conf.urls import patterns, url from black import views urlpatterns = patterns('', url(r'^$', views.index, name='index') ) And content of black/views.py: from django.http import HttpResponse def index(request): return HttpResponse("SHOW ME: BLACK") After all i synced the database. I can't see any error in apache-error-log and also not in my posted django files. What could cause this?

    I'm used to using Forms Authentication with a database, but I'm writing a little internal utility and the app doesn't have a database so I want to store the username and password in web.config. However for some reason, forms authentication is still trying to access SQL Server and I can't see how to stop it doing this and pick up the credentials from web.config. What am I doing wrong? I just get the error "Failed to generate a user instance of SQL Server due to a failure in impersonating the client. The connection will be closed."
