    I am getting the following error when I post back a page from the client-side. I have javascript code that modifies an asp:listbox on the client side. How do we fix this?   • Web reference problem on WCF

    I have a WCF service which I am able to connect to from my web application and get data. I now added a web reference to this wcf project to a wsdl file that a shipping company provides. Intention is to get shipping quotes.. I am able to access the objects that are generated from this wsdl file but when I call service.Authenticate("DEMO"); method almost nothing happens. I debug and see the debugger continue to the next lines but there is no change on service parameters and service.isauthorized is null..   • [Java] Send cookie with http request problem

    I'm trying to get a certain cookie in a java client by creating a series of Http requests. It looks like I'm getting a valid cookie from the server but when I'm sending out a request to the fnal url with the seemingly valid cookie I should get some lines of xml in the response but the response is blank because the cookie isw rong or is invalidated because a session has closed or an other problem which I can't figure out. The cookie handed out by the server expires at the end of the session. It seems to me the cookie is valid because when I do the same calls in firefox, a similar cookie with the same name and starting with the 3 first same letters and of the same length is stored in firefox, also expiring at the end of the session. If I then make a request to the final url with only this particular cookie stored in firefox (removed all other cookies), the xml is nicely rendered on the page. Any ideas about what I am doing wrong in this piece of code?   • How to troubleshoot a Highcharts script that's not rendering data when date is added and hanging the JS engine with large datasets?

    I have a Highchart JS graph that I'm building in Rails (although I don't think Ruby has real bearing on this problem unless it's the Date output format) to which I'm adding the timestamp of each datapoint. Presently the array of floats is rendering fine without timestamps, however when I add the timestamp to the series it fails to rend. What's worse is that when the series has hundreds of entries all sorts of problems arise, not the least of which is the browser entirely hanging and requiring a force quit / kill. This leads me to think I've got a problem with the timestamp output, but I'm just not able to figure out where / how as I'm converting the date output to an integer multipled by 1000 to convert it to milliseconds as per explained in a similar Railscasts tutorial. I would very much appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction here as to what I may be doing wrong. What could cause no data to appear on the graph in smaller sized sets (<100 points) and when into the hundreds causes an apparent hang in the javascript engine in this case? It's just a test to see if shuffling the array works by printing the contents of both decks (arrays) before and after the shuffle. I'm only using 8 cards at the moment, 4 2's and 4 3's. What I am getting from this is: deck = 22223333 new deck = deck = 2222 new deck = 7502 What I'm hoping to get is: deck = 22223333 new deck = deck = new deck = 23232323 (or any of the 8 numbers, generated randomly) So it should be shuffling those 8 cards, what am I doing wrong? I'm only new to javascript but I've used some python before. I've done something similar in python and worked perfectly, but I'm not sure what's wrong here. Thanks for any answers in advance!!

  • Keeping track of business rules within IT department?

    I am looking for the best way to keep track of the business rules for both developers and everybody else (support staff / management) in a startup enviroment. The challenge is that our business model requires quite a lot of different business rules, which are created pretty much on the fly and evolving organically after that. After running this project for 3+ years, we have so many of such rules that often the only way to be sure about what the application is supposed to do in a certain situation is to go find the module responsible for that process and analyze its code and comments. That is all fine as long as you have one single developer who created the entire application from the scratch, but every new developer needs to go over pretty much entire codebase in order to understand how the application works. Even bigger problem is that non technical employees don't even have that option and therefore are forced to ask me pretty much every day how some certain case would be handled by the application. Quick example - we only start charging for our customer campaigns once they have been active for at least 72 hours, but at the same time we stop creating invoices for campaigns that belong to insolvent accounts and close such accounts within a month of the first failed charge. That does not apply to accounts that are set to "non-chargeable" which most commonly belongs to us since we are using the service ourselves. The invoices are created on the 1st of each month and include charges from the previous month + any current balance that the account might have. However, some customers are charged only 4 days after their invoice has been generated due to issues with their billing department. In addition to that, invoices are also created when customer deactivates his campaign, but that can only be done once the campaign is not longer under mandatory 6 month contract, unless account manager approves early deactivation. I know, that's quite a lot of rules that need to be taken into account when answering a question "when do we bill our customers", but actually I could still append an asterisk at the end of each sentence in order to disclose some rare exceptions. Of course, it would be easiest just to keep the business rules to the minimum, but we need to adapt to changing marketplace - i.e. less than a year ago we had no contracts whatsoever. One idea that I had so far was a simplistic wiki with categories corresponding to areas such as "Account activation", "Invoicing", "Collection procedures" and so on. Another idea would be to have giant interactive flowchart showing the entire customer "life cycle" from prospecting to account deactivation. What are your experiences / suggestions?

  • Anyone have experience calling Rake from MSBuild for code gen and other benefits? How did it go? Wha

    While programming in C# using Visual Studio 2008, I often wish for "automatic" code generation. If possible, I'd like to achieve it by making my MSBuild solution file call out to Rake, which would call Ruby code for the code generation, having the resulting generated files automatically appear in my solution. Here's one business example (of many possible examples I could name) where this kind of automatic code generation would be helpful. In a recent project I had an interface with some properties that contained dollar amounts. I wanted a second interface and a third interface that had the same properties as the first interface, except they were "qualified" with a business unit name. Something like this: public interface IQuarterlyResults { double TotalRevenue { get; set; } double NetProfit { get; set; } } public interface IConsumerQuarterlyResults { double ConsumerTotalRevenue { get; set; } double ConsumerNetProfit { get; set; } } public interface ICorporateQuarterResults { double CorporateTotalRevenue { get; set; } double CorporateNetProfit { get; set; } } In this example, there is a "Consumer Business Unit" and a "Corporate Business Unit". Every property on IQuarterlyResults becomes a property called "Corporate" + [property name] on ICorporateQuarterlyResults, and likewise for IConsumerQuarterlyResults. Why make interfaces for these, rather than merely having an instance of IQuarterlyResults for Consumer and another instance for Corporate? Because, when working with the calculator object I was building, the user had to deal with 100's of properties, and it is much less confusing if he can deal with "fully qualified" property names such as "ConsumerNetProfit". But let's not get bogged down in this example. It is only an example and not the main question. The main question is this: I love using Ruby and ERB for code generation, and I love using Rake to manage dependencies between tasks. To solve the problem above, what I'd like to do is have MSBuild call out to Rake, and have Rake / Ruby read the list of properties on the "core" interface and then generate the code to make all the dependent interfaces and their properties. This would get triggered every time I do a build, because I'd put it into the MSBuild file for the VS.NET solution. Has anyone tried anything like this? How did it work out for you? What insights can you share about pros, cons, tips for success, etc.? Thanks!

  • Composite Views and View Controllers

    Hi, I'm somewhat new to Android and am in the process of designing an application with a couple fairly complex views. One of the views is intended to involve a complex view displaying information associated with model objects and segregated into several different views; the navigation of which is meant to be achieved using sliding effects (i.e. sliding one's finger across the screen to traverse from one screen to the next, etc). The view itself will be used to host multiple sets of views for varying types of model objects, but with a general structure that is reused between them all. As a rough example, the view might come up to display information about a person (the model object), displaying several details views: a view for general information, a view displaying a list of hobbies, and a view displaying a list of other individuals associated with their social network. The same general view, when given a model object representing a particular car would give several different views: A general view with details, A view containing photo images for that vehicle, a view representing locations which it could be purchased from, and a view providing a list of related cars. (NOTE: This is not the real data involved, but is representative of the general intent for the view). The subviews will NOT cover the entire screen real-estate and other features within the view should be both visible and able to be interacted with by the user. The idea here is that there is a general view structure that is reusable and which will manage a set of subviews dynamically generated based upon the type of model object handed to the view. I'm trying to determine the appropriate way to leverage the Android framework in order to best achieve this without violating the integrity of the framework. Basically, I'm trying to determine how to componentize this larger view into reusable units (i.e. general view, model-specific sub-view controllers, and individual detail views). To be more specific, I'm trying to determine if this view is best designed as a composite of several custom View classes or a composite of several Activity classes. I've seen several examples of custom composite views, but they typically are used to compose simple views without complex controllers and without attention to the general Activity lifecycle (i.e. storing and retrieving data related to the model objects, as appropriate). On the other hand, the only real example I've seen regarding a view comprised of a composite of Activities is the TabActivity itself, and that isn't customizable in the fashion that would be necessary for this. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the appropriate way to structure my view to achieve the application framework I'm looking for? Views? Activities? Something else? Any guidance would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I can retrieve the values for each input using: $('#SicknessForm .userInput').each(function() { alert($(this).val()); }); 1) How can I loop through each row, get the value from the first column (Injuries) and place the data into an array to send to the server? 2) How do I reference the first row of each column to disable user input on it? $(:HowDoIReferenceThis).attr('disabled', ''); 3) I need to validate that each cell is numeric, other than the first column. I know that there is no built-in support for C++ with regards to the snippet manager and snipper picker interfaces, however I found a utility called "snippy" which supposedly can generate C++ snippets. Because in case of less number of cases, the code is pretty similar to that generated for if...else ladder, but when number of cases increases, this unusual-looking implementation is seen.   • Distinct rand() sequences yielding the same results in an expression

    Ok, this is a really weird one. I have an MPI program, where each process has to generate random numbers in a fixed range (the range is read from file). What happens is that even though I seed each process with a different value, and the numbers generated by rand() are different in each process, the expression to generate the random numbers still yields the same sequence between them. What's even weirder: if I run the program with the same parameteres again, only the first 3 random numbers will change, the rest of the "random" sequence will be exactly the same in each run! Changing the range of numbers will obviously produce a different result from this one, but the same parameters always yield the same sequence, between processes and between executions: except for the first 3 numbers. Just what the hell is going on here?

If I see if a radio button is checked, it's always rbReportTypeCust.checked = True, never the rbReportTypeProg.checked = True even if I click it. Any suggestions?

  • Why is javac 1.5 running so slowly compared with the Eclipse compiler?

    I have a Java Maven project with about 800 source files (some generated by javacc/JTB) which is taking a good 25 minutes to compile with javac. When I changed my pom.xml over to use the Eclipse compiler, it takes about 30 seconds to compile. Any suggestions as to why javac (1.5) is running so slowly? (I don't want to switch over to the Eclipse compiler permanently, as the plugin for Maven seems more than a little buggy.) I have a test case which easily reproduces the problem. The following code generates a number of source files in the default package. I've added the jQuery image gallery called galleria to one of the tabs. The gallery works great when it resides in the div that is intially set to display:block. However, when it is in one of the divs that is set to display: none; part of the gallery doesn't work when the div is toggled to be visible. Specifically, the following css ceases to be written (this is created by galleria jQuery): element.style { display:block; height:50px; margin-left:-17px; width:auto; } For the life of me, I can't figure out why the gallery fails when it's div is set to display: none. Since this declaration is overwritten when a tab is clicked (via the Javascript functions above), why would this cause a problem? As I mentioned, it works perfectly when it lives the in display: block; div. Any ideas? I don't expect anybody to be familiar with the jQuery galleria image gallery... but perhaps an idea of how one might repair this problem? Thanks!

  • Need .Net method to compute a Google Pagerank request checksum.

    The company I work for is currently developing a SEO tool which needs to include a domain or url Pagerank. It is possible to retrieve such data directly from Google by sending a request to the url called by the Google ToolBar. On of the parameters send to that url is a checksum of the domain whose pagerank is being requested. I have found multiple .Net methods for calculating that check sum; however, every one randomly returns corrupt values every so often. I can only handle errors to a certain point before my final data set becomes useless. I know that there are countless tools out there, from browser plugins to desktop applications, that can process page rank, so it can't be impossible. My question, then, is two fold: 1) Any anyone heard of the problem I am having? (specifically in .Net) If so, how can it (or has it) be resolved? 2) Is there a better source for retrieving Pagerank data? Below is the Url and checksum code I have been using.   • IE 6 and 7 background inheritance problem, how do I solve this?

    When I'm trying to create a rounded shaded box it works fine on FF and IE8 but on IE6 and IE7, any div inside the box gets the last background but if you set that all divs on the level where there should not be a background have background:none it doesn't show any background on the level that comes before *The code is pointing to live images on Image Shack so you can save and run that it will work normally on Firefox but you can see what happen on IE6/7.   • Decentralized synchronized secure data storage

    Introduction Hi, I am going to ask a question which seems utopic for me, but I need to know if there is a way to achieve what I need. And if not, I need to know why not. The idea Suppose I have a database structure, in MySql. I want to create some solution to allow anyone (no matter who, no matter where) to have a synchronized copy (updated clone) of this database (with its content) Well, and it is not going to be just one synchronized copy, it could (and should) be a multiple replication (supposing the basic, this means, for example, ten copies all over the world) And, the most important thing: It must be secure. By secure I mean only real-accepted transactions will be synchronized with all the others (no matter how many) database copies/clones. Note: Since it would be quite difficult to make the synchronization in real-time, I will design everything to make this feature dispensable. So it is not required. My auto-suggestion This is how I am thinking to manage it: Time identifiers and Updates checking: Every action (insert, update, delete...) will be stored as the action instruction itself, associated to the time identifier. [I think better than a DATETIME field, it'll be an INT one, with the number of miliseconds passed from 1st january 2013 on, for example]. So each copy is going to ask to the "neighbour copy" for new actions done since last update, and execute them after checking they are allowed. Problem 1: the "neighbour copy" could be outdated too. Solution 1: do not ask just one neighbour, create a random list with some of the copies/clones and ask them for news (I could avoid the list and ask ALL the clones for updates, but this will be inefficient if clones number ascends too much). Problem 2: Real-time global synchronization is not active. What if... Someone at CLONE_ENTERPRISING inserts a row into TABLE. ... this row goes to every clone ... Someone at CLONE_FIXEMALL deletes this row. ... and at the same time, somewhere in an outdated clone ... Someone at CLONE_DROPOUT edits this row (now inexistent at the other clones) Solution 2: easy stuff, force a GLOBAL synchronization before doing any new "depending-on-third-data action" (edit, for example). This global synch. will be unnecessary when making an INSERT, for instance. Note: Well, someone could have some fun, and make the same insert in two clones... since they're not getting updated in real-time, this row will exist twice. But, it's the same as when we have one single database, in some needed cases we check if there is an existing same-row before doing the final action. Not a problem. Problem 3: It is possible to edit the code and do not filter actions, so someone could spread instructions to delete everything, or just make some trolling activity. This is not a problem, since good clones will always be somewhere. Those who got bad won't interest anymore. I really appreciate if you read. I know this is not the perfect solution, it has possibly hundred of holes, but it is my basic start. I will now appreciate anything you can teach me now. Thanks a lot.     I have been following this tutorial http://tinyurl.com/327p325 which has been GREAT up until this point where I can't get his code to work. I get the list working with static items but I can't get it to work with the json items.
