• BizTalk 2010 upgrade - Sunset Development/Deployment Modes

  Those who are familiar with BizTalk 2006, should know about Development and Deployment modes in Visual Studio. Personally, I never questioned why it's not Debug and Release just like everything else in Visual Studio. Then everything changed in BizTalk 2010. BizTalk and Visual Studio 2010 now uses Debug and Release modes by default. When we upgraded BizTalk 2006 solution to 2010, Development and Deployment modes remained unchanged for all the projects, and code compiled without any issues. Soon, I realized that any new projects added to the converted solutions started using Debug and Release modes. This also didn't cause any problem compiling the solution from Visual Studio; however, it broke our custom build/deployment scripts since the scripts were trying to build in Deployment mode. So, I decided to change all projects from Development and Deployment modes to Debug and Release modes to keep them consistent. During this process I realized that Debug and Release modes are defaults; but it's completely customizable. During the BizTalk 2010 upgrade process, I figured that switching to default Debug and Release modes are the best options.

• Dutch Techdays 2011 in The Hague

  Microsoft organizes at April 27, 28 and 29 the Dutch Techdays in The Hague. Already for 14 years this is the biggest Microsoft event in The Netherlands where you get the chance to get up to speed with the latest technology with speakers all over the world. I have the pleasure to provide you with two sessions this year: At the DevDays Pre-conference four ALM experts from the Dutch region help you understand how to adopt and improve your agile practices for greater productivity and higher quality applications. • Methodology behind fetching large XML data sets in pieces

  I am working on an HTTP Server in Delphi which simply sends back a custom XML dataset. I am not following any type of standard formatting, such as SOAP. I have the system working seamlessly, except one small flaw: When I have a very large dataset to send back to the client, it might take up to 2 minutes for all the data to be transferred. The HTTP Server I'm building is essentially an XML Data based API around a database, implementing the common business rule - therefore, the requests are specific to the data behind the system. When, for example, I fetch a large set of product data, I would like to break this down and send it back piece by piece. However, a single HTTP request calls for a single response. I can't necessarily keep feeding the client with multiple different XML packets unless the client explicitly requests it. I don't have any session management, but rather an API Key. I know if I had sessions, I could keep-alive a dataset temporarily for a client, and they could request bits and pieces of it. However, without session management, I would have to execute the SQL query multiple times (for each chunk of data), and in the mean-time, if that data changes, the "pages" might get messed up, therefore causing items to show on the wrong pages, after navigating to a different page. So how is this commonly handled? What's the methodology behind breaking down a large XML dataset into chunks to save the load?

• UBJsonReader (Libgdx) unable to to read UBJson from Python(Blender)

  I am working on an export tool from Blender to Libgdx, exports like custom attributes and other information (Almost completed), this is a very cool tool that will speed up a lot your works, after I completed I will send to public to contribute forum, Export format is uses python's Standard Json module and readable text, it of course works fine, but I wanna also have a Binary Json export for faster load, so users can Export Straight to Libgdx, but after I search I found that UBJson with draft9.py (simpleubjson 0.6.1) encode is seems matches with one FBXConverter's UBJsonWriter( Xoppa wrote), but when I export, I am not able to read the file, and send this errors (Java heap space) seems this is a different between byte sizes in UBJson(python) and UBJsonReader. how can I write a correct one in python that matches with Libgdx's UBJsonReader, and would be cross-platform? • OpenGL: Where shoud I place shaders?

  I'm trying to learn OpenGL ES 2.0 and I'm wondering what is the most common practice to "manage" shaders. I'm asking this question because in the examples I've found (like the one included in the API Demo provided with the android sdk), I usually see everything inside the GLRenderer class and I'd rather separate things so I can have, for example, a GLImage object that I can reuse whenever I want to draw a textured quad (I'm focusing on 2D only at the moment), just like I had in my OpenGL ES 1.0 code. In almost every example I've found, shaders are just defined as class attributes. • /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp has failed

  Ever since 10.04, I can't print to an HP laserjet p3005. I'm even using an entirely different computer now with a fresh install of 10.10. I've tried with and without the latest hplip. Recently, sometimes I can get it to print a few things, but eventually it always fails (usually when printing a pdf from the document viewer (also doesn't work with adobe pdf reader)). Sometimes it fails so bad the printer gives an error saying it needs to be turned off and on again. I can't seem to find a fix anywhere, I've googled all over the past year and tried every fix I could find. It does say that the /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp has failed. It also doesn't make a difference if I create the printer using hp-setup or ubuntu's own printing control panel. I delete and re-create the printer, no difference eventually. I use the default printer settings or custom settings, no difference. I can print perfectly find to a networked printer at home - an HP officejet 6310. It seems to be networked HP printers at work that I can't print to anymore (except occasionally right after re-installing the printer driver). What's the recommended way to install HP printer drivers and reset or clean out everything from before. Or where are the right logs to read or debug commands to do to find out what may be the real cause of the printing problems?

• Could not load type System.Configuration.NameValueSectionHandler

  If you upgrade older .NET sites from 1.x to 2.x or greater, you may encounter this error when you have configuration settings that look like this: <section name="CacheSettings" type="System.Configuration.NameValueFileSectionHandler, System"/> Once you try to run this on an upgraded appdomain, you may encounter this error: An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for CacheSettings: Could not load type 'System.Configuration.NameValueSectionHandler' from assembly 'System.Configuration, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a'. Microsoft moved a bunch of the Configuration related classes into a separate assembly, System.Configuration, and created a new class, ConfigurationManager.  This presents its own challenges which Ive blogged about in the past if you are wondering where ConfigurationManager is located.  However, the above error is separate. The issue in this case is that the NameValueSectionHandler is still in the System assembly, but is in the System.Configuration namespace.  This causes confusion which can be alleviated by using the following section definition: <section name="CacheSettings" type="System.Configuration.NameValueSectionHandler, System, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" /> (you can remove the extra line breaks within the type=) With this in place, your web application should once more be able to load up the NameValueSectionHandler.  I do recommend using your own custom configuration section handlers instead of appSettings, and I would further suggest that you not use NamveValueSectionHandler if you can avoid it, but instead prefer a strongly typed configuration section handler.   string : ------ The string type represents a sequence of zero or more Unicode characters. string is an alias for String in the .NET Framework. 'string' is the intrinsic C# datatype, and is an alias for the system provided type "System.String". The C# specification states that as a matter of style the keyword ('string') is preferred over the full system type name (System.String, or String). Although string is a reference type, the equality operators (== and !=) are defined to compare the values of string objects, not references. This makes testing for string equality more intuitive. For example: String : ------ A String object is called immutable (read-only) because its value cannot be modified once it has been created. Methods that appear to modify a String object actually return a new String object that contains the modification. If it is necessary to modify the actual contents of a string-like object Difference between string & String : ---------- ------- ------ - ------ the string is usually used for declaration while String is used for accessing static string methods we can use 'string' do declare fields, properties etc that use the predefined type 'string', since the C# specification tells me this is good style. we can use 'String' to use system-defined methods, such as String.Compare etc. They are originally defined on 'System.String', not 'string'. 'string' is just an alias in this case. we can also use 'String' or 'System.Int32' when communicating with other system, especially if they are CLR-compliant. I.e. - if I get data from elsewhere, I'd deserialize it into a System.Int32 rather than an 'int', if the origin by definition was something else than a C# system.

  Before getting started with the JMS Adapter, we must configure the connection factories/JMS queues on the WLS admin console. In particular, we will be required to follow these stepsCreate a connection factory. In our case, we will create a "XA Connection Factory". This step is mandatory if you need your JMS queues to participate in a global transaction. Create the WLS JMS QueuesCreating the connection factory:1) Login to the WLS Admin console. On my setup, the url looks like "http://localhost:7001/console".2) Select Services -> Messaging -> JMS Modules -> SOAJMSModule as shown below. We can also create a new JMS Module, but, I took the easier way out by selecting the SOAJMSModule. 3) Click on "New" as shown in order to create the Connection factory.4) Select "Connection Factory" radio button and click "Next".5) Enter the Connection Factory properties as shown and click on "Finish".6) Target the connection factory to your managed server and click on "Finish". 7) Now, go back and select the Connection Factory that you've just created (see Step 2 above) .   Today we announced a press release about another successful project with Oracle GoldenGate. This time at Ameristar. Ameristar is a casino gaming company and needed a single data integration solution to connect multiple heterogeneous systems to its Teradata data warehouse. The project involves integration of Ameristar’s promotional and gaming data from 14 data sources across its 7 casino hotel properties in real time into a central Teradata data warehouse. The source systems include the Aristocrat gaming and MGT promotional management platforms running on Microsoft SQL Server 2000 databases. As you can notice, there was no Oracle Database involved in this project, but Ameristar’s IT leadership knew that  GoldenGate’s strong heterogeneous and real-time data integration capabilities is the right technology for their data warehousing project.   Along with our announced GA release of P6 Analytics R1 recently, you may have noticed that when you purchase P6 Analytics, we provide a restricted use license for P6 Reporting Database R2. This represent an updated version of the previous P6 Reporting Database 6.2 and can be purchased individually on a per-CPU basis. Typically, you will want just the reporting database if you would like the P6 data warehouse components such as the ETL, data models, ODS and star schemas in order to report on that data with another reporting tool other than Oracle. The P6 Analytics solution will only work on Oracle BI (OBI). But I pasted below some examples of a simplistic matrix report that I built from the P6 Reporting Database using Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services. This is the Report Builder tool which is very similar to other similar tools to build reports on the market today such as Crystal Reports or Oracle BI Publisher.   I currently have SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server 2014 both installed on the same machine. My job requires me to travel a lot and I like to travel light. Hence, I have only one computer with all the software installed in it. I can install Virtual Machines but as I was able to install SQL Server 2012 and SQL Server 2014 side by side, I just went ahead with that option. Now one day when I opened up my SQL Server 2014 and went to the properties of the my database, I realized that the dropdown box for Compatibility level is empty. I just can’t select anything there or see what is the current Compatibility level of the database. This was the first time for me so I was bit confused and I tried to search online. Upon searching online I realize that if I was not the first, there are very few questions on this subject on various forums as well as there is no convincing answer to this problem online. That means, I was pretty much first one to face this error. See the image of the situation I was facing. Now I decided to resolve this issue as soon as I can. I spent a few minutes here and there and realize my mistake. I had connected to SQL Server 2014 instance from SQL Server 2012 Management Studio. Hence, I was not able to see any compatibility related settings. Once I connected to SQL Server 2014 instance with SQL Server 2014 Management Studio – this issue was resolved. • Storing Entity Framework Entities in a Separate Assembly

  The Entity Framework has been valuable to me since it came out, because it provided a convenient and powerful way to model against my data source in a consistent way.  The first versions had some deficiencies that for me mostly fell in the category of the tight coupling between the model and its resulting object classes (entities). Version 4 of the Entity Framework pretty much solves this with the support of T4 templates that allow you to implement your entities as self-tracking entities, plain old CLR objects (POCO), et al.  Doing this involves either specifying a new code generation template or implementing them yourselves.  Visual Studio 2010 ships with a self-tracking entities template and a POCO template is available from the Extension Manager.  (Extension Manager is very nice but it's very easy to waste a bunch of time exploring add-ins.  You've been warned.) In a current project I wanted to use POCO; however, I didn't want my entities in the same assembly as the context classes.  It would be nice if this was automatic, but since it isn't here are the simple steps to move them.  These steps detail moving the entity classes and not the context.  The context can be moved in the same way, but I don't see a compelling reason to physically separate the context from my model. Turn off code generation for the template.  To do this set the Custom Tool property for the entity template file to an empty string (the entity template file will be named something like MyModel.tt). Expand the tree for the entity template file and delete all of its items.  These are the items that were automatically generated when you added the template. Create a project for your entities (if you haven't already). Add an existing item and browse to your entity template file, but add it as a link (do not add it directly).  Adding it as a link will allow the model and the template to stay in sync, but the code generation will occur in the new assembly.

• Using the JRockit Flight Recorder as an In-Flight Black Box

  The new JRockit Flight Recorder has some very interesting properties. It can be used like the black box of an airplane, allowing users to go back in time and check what was happening around the time when something went wrong. Here is how to enable the default continuous recording in JRockit to allow for that use case. The flight recorder is on by default in JRockit R28, the problem is that there is no recording running by default. To configure JRockit to start with the default recording running, add the parameter: -XX:FlightRecorderOptions=defaultrecording=true That will enable a recording with recording ID 0. You can see that it has been started properly by choosing Show Recordings from the context menu in JRockit Mission Control.   You should see something similar to the picture below. Simply right click on the recording and select dump to dump information available in the flight recorder. You can select to dump data for a specific period of time or all data. • Inter Quake Model IQM render Directx9

  I'm trying to render an Inter Quake Model(http://lee.fov120.com/iqm/) in DirectX9 that I exported from blender. I want to display animations which IQM supports and my model format does not. The model is a cylinder. It loads fine in the iqm sdk opengl viewer but when i try to render it in directx9 using for example(this is just to render the vertices): IDirect3DDevice9 * device; HRESULT hr = S_OK; for(int i = 0; i < nummeshes; i++) { iqmmesh &m = meshes[0]; hr = device->DrawIndexedPrimitiveUP(D3DPT_TRIANGLELIST, 0, 3*m.num_triangles, m.num_triangles ,&tris[m.first_triangle] ,D3DFMT_INDEX32 ,inposition ,sizeof(unsigned int)); } It renders like this: Incorrect The light grey bit that looks like two triangles in the middle is what is rendered(ignore the other stuff). Whereas it is meant to look like this(using a custom importer which I designed which matches what is displayed in blender): Correct Anyone have any suggestions on what might be going wrong?

• Isometric displaying two different images in different positions

  I'm creating a simple Isometric game using HTML5 and Javascript, but I can't seem to get the display to work, at the moment i have 9 tiles that have X and Y positions and the player has a X and Y position, the players X and Y properties are set to 100, and the tiles are as shown tiles[0] = new Array(3); tiles[1] = new Array(3); tiles[2] = new Array(3); tiles[0][0] = new point2D( 100, 100); tiles[0][1] = new point2D( 160, 100); tiles[0][2] = new point2D( 220, 100); tiles[1][0] = new point2D( 100, 160); tiles[1][1] = new point2D( 160, 160); tiles[1][2] = new point2D( 220, 160); tiles[2][0] = new point2D( 100, 220); tiles[2][1] = new point2D( 160, 220); tiles[2][2] = new point2D( 220, 220); Now I use this method to work out the isometric position function twoDToIso( point ) { var cords = point2D; cords.x = point.x - point.y; cords.y = (point.x + point.y) / 2; return cords; } point2D is function point2D( x, y) { this.x = x; this.y = y; } Now this i'm sure does work out the correct positioning, but here is the output Isometric view I just need to move my player position a tiny bit, but is that the best way to display my player position in the right position? • Using Microsoft's Chart Controls In An ASP.NET Application: Serializing Chart Data

  In most usage scenarios, the data displayed in a Microsoft Chart control comes from some dynamic source, such as from a database query. The appearance of the chart can be modified dynamically, as well; past installments in this article series showed how to programmatically customize the axes, labels, and other appearance-related settings. However, it is possible to statically define the chart's data and appearance strictly through the control's declarative markup. One of the demos examined in the Getting Started article rendered a column chart with seven columns whose labels and values were defined statically in the <asp:Series> tag's <Points> collection. Given this functionality, it should come as no surprise that the Microsoft Chart Controls also support serialization. Serialization is the process of persisting the state of a control or an object to some other medium, such as to disk. Deserialization is the inverse process, and involves taking the persisted data and recreating the control or object. With just a few lines of code you can persist the appearance settings, the data, or both to a file on disk or to any stream. Likewise, it takes just a few lines of codes to reconstitute a chart from the persisted information. This article shows how to use the Microsoft Chart Control's serialization functionality by examining a demo application that allows users to create custom charts, specifying the data to plot and some appearance-related settings. The user can then save a "snapshot" of this chart, which persists its appearance and data to a record in a database. From another page, users can view these saved chart snapshots.
