  I'm trying to debug a crash but when I run symbolicatecrash against my crash log I get every method call in the stack trace except for my method calls. • Need a code snippet for backward paging...

  Hi guys I'm in a bit on a fix here. I know how easy it is to build simple pagination links for dynamic pages whereby you can navigate between partial sets of records from sql queries. However the situation I have is as below: COnsider that I wish to paginate between records listed in a flat file - I have no problem with the retrieval and even the pagination assuming that the flat file is a csv file with the first field as an id and new reocrds on new lines. However I need to make a pagination system which paginates backwards i.e I want the LAST entry in the file to appear as the first as so forth. Since I don't have the power of sql to help me here I'm kinda stuck - all I have is a fixed sequence which needs to be paginated, also note that the id mentioned as first field is not necessarily numeric so forget about sorting by numerics here. I basically need a way to loop through the file but backwards and paginate it as such. How can I do that - I'm working in php - I just need the code to loop through and paginate i.e how to tell which is the offset and which is the current page etc.

• Entity Framework and stored procedure returning temp table Issues

  (Disclaimer - I'm not the database designer. I'm just the poor developer what has to make this work.) There are 17 (at the moment) tables with identical structure - name, address, phone number. Given a phone number, I have to check to see if there's a matching entry in any of the tables, then return that address. So, I created a view to get the list of tables (there's a ref table that holds that info), then I created a stored procedure to create a temp table, using cursors, check each table in the view for the phone number, using sql concatenation. If a record is found, insert it into the temp table. return the rows from the temp table. This all works in straight T-SQL. Now, I'm trying to use Entity Framework 4+ to call the stored procedure. But the function import interface won't generate columns. It says return type = none, and the LINQ code expects an int and won't compile. Any ideas on how to make this work? I know I can move the check tables part to code, if I absolutely have to, but I'd rather have the above method work.

  I'm writing an XSL file that contains a side-nav menu with a list of links. When the user clicks on one of the links, the page jumps to the corresponding table of information for that link. How can I make it so that when the link is clicked, the title of that table (not the link itself) is highlighted? It should also un-highlight if another link is clicked. • Which single IoC/DI container would you recommend using and why?

  I'm asking this question because it's a good way to gauge how the community at large feels about the various containers/frameworks and why. Also, whilst my expertise may lie in .Net development, I am very interested in which frameworks are popular (and why) in other languages. If I feel the need to start digging into Java for instance, then I'd like to hit the ground running with good (comfortable) knowledge that I'm starting in the right direction. Does Ruby even need one with all its magnificent dynamicism? I have my own opinions on the .Net front, and will probably add my own personal favourite in an answer below, but I'm interested in all languages and opinions here. With all that in mind, could you please state only one IoC/DI framework that you use and recommend with the language of choice (Java/Ruby/.Net/Smalltalk etc.) and your reasoning for your choice, and if someone has already answered your particular flavour, then you can just vote it up and add comments to it so that anyone looking for advice in future and see which frameworks are more than likely to work for them once they read your reasoning. I'm hoping that over time, the best ones will bubble up to the top. I realise that this question doesn't have only one correct answer, so I won't be choosing one - the community will decide which framework gets the most votes and why. Of course, if you really feel strongly opposed to a particular brand, you could take the reputation hit and vote it down too, and this question can serve as a true wiki-style entry for research into this field. • jmap -histo is missing a lot of memory

  I have a JVM with 12 gigs of total RAM, out of which 7 GB is allocated to the old generation. There seems to be some memory leak, because almost the entire old gen is full, and will not release when I schedule a GC (the process is not doing anything else at that time). A jmap -histo dump only reveals less than 1 gigabyte worth of objects. Where are the missing 6 gigs? What better tool do you propose for diagnosing this? • What happens to my PriorityQueue if my Comparator throws an exception while it's busy bubbling up or

  Hi, I'm trying order pairs of integers ascendantly where a pair is considered less than another pair if both its entries are strictly less than those of the other pair, and larger than the other pair if both its entries are strictly larger than those of the other pair. All other cases are considered incomparable. They way I want to solve this is by defining a Comparator that implements the above, but will throw an exception for incomparable cases, and provide that to a PriorityQueue. Of course, while inserting a pair the priority queue does several comparisons while bubbling the new entry up to its correct position in the heap, and many of these will be comparable. But it may happen during the bubbling process that a pair is encountered with which this new pair is incomparable, and an exception will be thrown. If this happens, what will be the state of the PriorityQueue? Will the pair I was trying to insert sit in the heap at the last position it was in before the exception was thrown? If I use the PriorityQueue's remove(Object o) method, will the PriorityQueue be restored to a consistent state? Thanks

• categorize a set of phrases into a set of similar phrases

  I have a few apps that generate textual tracing information (logs) to log files. The tracing information is the typical printf() style - i.e. there are a lot of log entries that are similar (same format argument to printf), but differ where the format string had parameters. What would be an algorithm (url, books, articles, ...) that will allow me to analyze the log entries and categorize them into several bins/containers, where each bin has one associated format? Essentially, what I would like is to transform the raw log entries into (formatA, arg0 ... argN) instances, where formatA is shared among many log entries. The formatA does not have to be the exact format used to generate the entry (even more so if this makes the algo simpler). Most of the literature and web-info I found deals with exact matching, a max substring matching, or a k-difference (with k known/fixed ahead of time). Also, it focuses on matching a pair of (long) strings, or a single bin output (one match among all input). My case is somewhat different, since I have to discover what represents a (good-enough) match (generally a sequence of discontinuous strings), and then categorize each input entries to one of the discovered matches. Lastly, I'm not looking for a perfect algorithm, but something simple/easy to maintain. Thanks!

  Lately I bumped repeatedly into the concept of LFSR, that I find quite interesting because of its links with different fields and also fascinating in itself. It took me some effort to understand, the final help was this really good page, much better than the (at first) cryptic wikipedia entry. So I wanted to write some small code for a program that worked like a LFSR. To be more precise, that somehow showed how a LFSR works.   Hi all, I tried to use the Http Authentication Digest Scheme with my php (apache module) based website. In general it works fine, but when it comes to verification of the username / hash against my user database i run into a problem. Of course i do not want to store the user´s password in my database, so i tend to store the A1 hashvalue (which is md5($username . ':' . $realm . ':' . $password)) in my db. This is just how the browser does it too to create the hashes to send back. The Problem: I am not able to detect if the browser does this in ISO-8859-1 fallback (like firefox, IE) or UTF-8 (Opera) or whatever. I have chosen to do the calculation in UTF-8 and store this md5 hash. Which leads to non-authentication in Firefox and IE browsers. How do you solve this problem? Just do not use this auth-scheme? Or Store a md5 Hash for each charset? Force users to Opera? (Terms of A1 refer to the http://php.net/manual/en/features.http-auth.php example.) (for digest access authentication read the according wikipedia entry)

  I'm writing an app that allows you to script the buttons from a wiimote into actions on your PC. It currently supports all of the features of the main remote control, except for the speaker. Now, I'm running in to trouble when I run it on Vista with UAC turned on. Any time a UAC'd window has focus, my app fails to move the mouse successfully. For instance, when an installer is run, I have to navigate it with the keyboard. Will running the app as administrator solve my problem? (At one point in time, I was able to successfully move the mouse over a UAC-password-entry box) How do I build a manifest that will tell windows to "run as administrator"? How do I embed this manifest into my app, if I'm strongly naming my assembly? How do I sign my application with an Authenticode cert? EDIT: Ok, so after some more extensive research, I have found: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb756929.aspx <requestedExecutionLevel level="asInvoker|highestAvailable|requireAdministrator" uiAccess="true|false"/> However, the article says: Applications with the uiAccess flag set to true must be Authenticode signed to start properly.   Hi all, I am changing minesweeper.exe in order to have an understanding of how code injection works. Simply, I want the minesweeper to show a message box before starting. So, I find a "cave" in the executable and then define the string to show in messagebox and call the messagebox. Additionally of course, I have to change the value at module entry point of the executable and first direct it to my additional code, then continue its own code. So at the cave what I do; "hello starbuck",0 push 0 //arg4 of MessageBoxW function push the address of my string //arg3, must be title push the address of my string //arg2, must be the message push 0 //arg1 call MessageBoxW ... Now since the memory addresses of codes in the executable change everytime it is loaded in the memory, for calling the MessageBoxW function, I give the offset of the address where MessageBoxW is defined in Import Address Table. For instance, if MessageBoxW is defined at address1 in the IAT and the instruction just after call MessageBoxW is at address2 instead of writing call MessageBoxW, I write call address2 - address1. So my question is, how do I do it for pushing the string's address to the stack? For example, if I do these changes via ollydbg, I give the immediate address of "hello starbuck" for pushing and it works. • Open PDF Content files in ASP.NET MVC 2

  I want to provide simple href links to my PDF forms that reside in my Forms folder. I have a created a simple Index.aspx and FormController Index action that simple iterates through the list of PDF files using my FormMetaData.xml file. The links get created just fine but when you click on the links I get a 404 exception. That looks like this: Server Error in '/' Application. The resource cannot be found. Description: HTTP 404. The resource you are looking for (or one of its dependencies) could have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. Please review the following URL and make sure that it is spelled correctly. Requested URL: /Forms/ccindteamgolfform.pdf Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:2.0.50727.4927; ASP.NET Version:2.0.50727.4927 This seems like this should open up a new browser window with the PDF in it but perhaps I am making a bad assumption. The PDF content files have Build Action of Content and Copy to Output set to Copy Always. Here is an example output html for the link from my Index.aspx page: <span class="form"> <a href="Forms/ccindteamgolfform.pdf" target="_blank"> <span class="description">Entry Form</span></span> I must be missing something because this does not work. Do I need to add a MapRoute for these documents? Or am I missing something else with the routing? This seems like it should not be that difficult.

  I have several posts on a website; all these posts are chat conversations of this type: AD: Hey! BC: What's up? AD: Nothing BC: Okay They're marked up as simple paragraphs surrounded by <p> tags. Using the javascript replace function, I want all instances of "AD" in the beginning of a conversation (ie, all instances of "AD" at the starting of a line followed by a ":") to be surrounded by <strong> tags, but only if the instance isn't already surrounded by a <strong> tag. What regex should I use to accomplish this? Am I trying to do what this advises against? • git doesn't show where code was removed.

  So I was tasked at replacing some dummy code that our project requires for historical compatibility reasons but has mysteriously dropped out sometime since the last release. Since disappearing code makes me nervous about what else might have gone missing but un-noticed I've been digging through the logs trying to find in what commit this handful of lines was removed. I've tried a number of things including "git log -S'add-visit-resource-pcf'", git blame, and even git bisect with a script that simply checks for the existence of the line but have been unable to pinpoint exactly where these lines were removed.   My question is a design question : let's say i have a data entry web page with 4 drop down lists, each depending on the previous one, and a bunch of text boxes. country (ddl), state (ddl), city (ddl), boro (ddl), address (txtBox), zipcode(txtbox). and an object that represents a datarow with a value for each. naturally the country, state, city and boro values will be values of primary keys of some lookup tables. when the user chooses to edits that record, i would load it from database and load it into the page. the issue that I have is how to streamline loading the ddls. i have some code that would grab the object, look thru its values and move them to their corresponding input controls in one shot. but in this case i will have to load possible values of country, then assign values, then load values of state, then assign value ans so on. I guess i am looking for an elegant solution. i am using asp.net, but i think it is irrelevant to the question. i am looking more into a design pattern. thanks

• Database relationships using phpmyAdmin (composite keys)

  Hi, I hope this question is not me being dense. I am using phpmyAdmin to create a database. I have the following four tables. Don't worry about that fact place and price are optional they just are. Person (Mandatory) Item (Mandatory) Place (Optional) Price (Optional) Item is the main table. It will always have person linked. * I know you do joins in mysql for the tables. If I want to link the tables together I could use composite keys (using the ids from each table), however is this the most correct way to link the tables? It also means item will have 5 ids including its own. This all cause null values (apparently a big no no, which I can understand) because if place and price are optional and are not used on one entry to the items table I will have a null value there. Please help! Thanks in advance. I hope this makes sense.

• Making RDoc Ruby Gem Default on Mac OS X

  Hey all, I've recently installed RDoc version (2.4.3) through Ruby gems to replace the one shipped with Mac OS X (version 1.0.1). Unfortunately, I can still only use RDoc 1.0.1 when I call run "rdoc" at the command line. rdoc -v returns: RDoc V1.0.1 - 20041108 I tried amending the $PATH variable to point the first entry to the RDoc 2.4.3 folder but no luck. I couldn't find anything about this online either, so I thought I'd ask here. Cheers! Update: Running "gem list -d --version 1.0.1 rdoc" returns: *** LOCAL GEMS *** rdoc (2.4.3) Authors: Eric Hodel, Dave Thomas, Phil Hagelberg, Tony Strauss Rubyforge: http://rubyforge.org/projects/rdoc Homepage: http://rdoc.rubyforge.org Installed at: /usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8 RDoc is an application that produces documentation for one or more Ruby source files Therefore, it's definitely the Mac OSX version of RDoc that's interfering with the Gems version. Update 2: I found out, using: `bash --debugger rdoc` that the old version of RDoc was in /opt/local/bin. I deleted it and added my gems directory to my $PATH `export PATH=/usr/local/lib/ruby/gems/1.8/gems/` I now have a fresh working copy of the latest RDoc!
