  Hello fellow software developers. I want to distribute a program which is scriptable by embedding the Python interpreter. What I don't want is that the user has to install Python first. So I'm looking for a solution where I distribute only the following components: my program executable and its libraries the Python library (dll/so) a ZIP-file containing all necessary Python modules and libraries. How can I accomplish this? Do you have a step-by-step recipe for me? The solution should be suitable for both Windows and Linux. Thanks in advance.

  Hello friends, I have a UILabel control in a view. I want to detect touch event occurred when this label touched. I added the following code, which should work whenever touch happens on the view. - (void)touchesEnded:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { // This should be called only when the label is touched, not all the time.. [ [UIApplication sharedApplication] openURL:[NSURL URLWithString:@"http://www.mywebsite.com"] ]; } Whenever that particular label is touched my code should do the process further, not when the touch is happening anywhere in the view.   Hello, I know that it may sound a silly question but i am really very confused. I am to work with one application that is having operations like PDF loading,annotation, scrolling,zooming and other such functions. Now my question is that i am little bit confused about what template i should use as i went through Quartz 2D Programming Guide and was little bit confused whether i'll be able to apply the above shown functions with the same guideline,as it displays the pdf page on the whole screen.   Hello everybody! I've always wondered on the topic of public, protected and private properties. My memory can easily recall times when I had to hack somebody's code, and having the hacked-upon class variables declared as private was always upsetting. Also, there were (more) times I've written a class myself, and had never recognized any potential gain of privatizing the property. I should note here that using public vars is not in my habit: I adhere to the principles of OOP by utilizing getters and setters. So, what's the whole point in these restrictions?

• Why '.png' files produced by ImageMagick are so much bigger than '.jpg' & '.gif' files?

  Hello. I'm using ImageMagick to convert some files from one format to another. I was always under the impression that .png files were supposed to be as big/small as .jpg if not smaller, and definitely smaller than .gif. However when I run convert photo.jpg photo.png The files I'm getting out is about 6 times bigger than the original jpg. Original jpg is a regular photo about 300x500 px, 52 kb. Output is a proper png of the same dimensions, but size is about 307 kb? Does anyoone know what the hack is going on? Am I doing something wrong? P.S.: I tried both on Debian and Windows with the same results.

  Hello, this jquery question: when I set a specific height to a "#div", i want to set the width of a inner object automatically too (cause i need a width to read it out) [ "#div" ["object"] ] example: (object).css(width: [ CALCULATION ], height: ($("#div").height())+'px' ) the original proportion of the image is: 1600x1080 here's the link to the attachment, take a look at it (tinypic): link text the heights "500px", "600px" and "700px" you can see in the attachment are just examples, the heigth could also be "711px", "623px", "998px" etc. cause the "#div" scales with the browser (i can read out the height of window, that works) my math skills aren't really good, would be great if someone could help me out :-)

• Page loading effect with jquery

  Hello all, Is there a way to use jquery (or other method) to display a loading div while page loads? I have a table that is populated using PHP/MySQL and can contain several thousand rows. This is then sorted using the tablesorter plugin for jquery. Everything works fine, however the page can sometimes take 4-5 seconds to fully load and it would be nice to display a 'loading...' message within a div which automatically disappears when whole table is loaded. I have heard of loadmask plugin for jquery - would this be suitable for my needs and if not any alternative? No AJAX calls are being made while loading this table if thats relevant. • Visual Studio 2010 and Silverlight - Adding Data Sources

  Hello, I am interested in building a Silverlight application that uses RIA Services. I am using this video (http://live.visitmix.com/MIX10/Sessions/CL08) as an example. In that video, the presenter uses the "data sources" tab to populate the view. However, I cannot figure out how to add a data source from within Visual Studio 2010. I have a database on my local machine. This database is the sample AdventureWorks database. When I select my Silverlight application, there is a UserRegistrationContext in the data sources window. However, I cannot figure out how to add a new one that connects to my AdventureWorks database. Can somebody tell me how to do this? Thank you!

• Is MS Reporting Services suitable for stand-alone reports?

  Hello all: I work for a ISV. Our product can use both SQL Server and Oracle as its back-end server. It includes a number of reports (currently in Crystal). We are investigating moving to Micrsoft Reporting Services, but I'm beginning to think that it's a bad idea. We want for our reports to look and feel as though they are a part of our application, and we will not require SQL Server (the customer can choose Oracle). Although I see the reporting services supports a stand-alone mode (RDLC), the boundry between what requires SQL server and what doesn't looks extremely ambiguous. (example, the stand-alone report builder appears to require SQL Server, most of the documentation appears to be part of SQL Server's documentation) It looks to me like if I want to keep my application DB-agnostic, I had better steer clear of Reporting Services. Have I missed the boat here?

Can you please tell me what should i do step by step? i am a little bit confused cause i found a lot of solutions to add dll files but they significantly differ.. some of them add dll's only using code, some using properties in vs, add references and in other tutorials there is about registering dlls in system.   Hello everyone, today when I was working on some code of mine I came across a beeping sound when printing a buffer to the screen. Here's the mysterious character that produces the beep: '' I don't know if you can see it, but my computer beeps when I try to print it like this: cout<<(char)7<<endl; Another point of interest is that the 'beep' doesn't originate from my on board beeper, but from my headphone/speaker Is this just my computer or there something wrong with the cout function? EDIT: But then why does printing this character produce the beep sound? does that mean that I could send other such characters through the cout function to produce different effects?

• Visual Studio 2008 Macro for Building does not block thread

  Hello, I am trying to write a macro for Building my application, kicking off an external tool, and ataching the debugger to that external tool. Everything is working except for the building. It builds, but it is not blocking the thread so the external tool gets kicked off before it can finish. Is there a way I can run ExecuteCommand and wait for the thread to finish? • Using sys/socket.h functions on windows

  Hello, I'm attempting to utilize the socket.h functions within Windows. Essentially, I'm currently looking at the sample code at http://beej.us/guide/bgnet/output/html/multipage/clientserver.html#datagram. I understand that socket.h is a Unix function -- is there anyway I can easily emulate that environment while compiling this sample code? Does a different IDE / compiler change anything?   Hello All: I am trying to run following query in entity framework 3.5 var test = from e in customers where IsValid(e) select e; Here IsValid function takes current customer and validate against some conditions and returns false or true. But when I am trying to run the query it is giving error "LINQ Method cannot be translated into a store expression." Can any body tell me any other approach?   Hello, I am deploying a little service to an UNIX(AIX) system. I want to check if there is no active instance of that service running when starting it. How reliable is to implement that check like this? Try to acquire a lock on a file (w/ FileChannel) If succeeds, keep lock and continue execution If fails, exit and refuse to run the main body I am aware of software like the Tanuki wrapper, however, I'm longing for a simpler(maybe not portable) solution. Regarding PIDFILE(s): I want to avoid using them if possible, as I don't have administrative rights on the machine, neither knowledge in AIX's shell programming.

• Winform not scrolling when drawing objects on it

  Hello All, C#3.0,.net framework 3.5 I am drawing ( using the draw method in the graphics class) a lot of solid rectangles on a windows form vertically. The form starts at 500 x 500 px and the rectangles are only drawn at runtime after data is downloaded from the net -and the number of rectangles depends on the download so I do not know it upfront. So only a few rectangles are drawn as the size of the form is fixed. So I googled/Binged ( lest someone suggest I do that) and found a few tips but they don't work in this case -like setting the forms AutoScroll property to true or trying double buffering.I also tried to draw on a listbox control and set it's scroll property etc...but no dice. I'm guessing there is no way to display , say 200 rectangles vertically on a windows form using draw. I need some other solution... any ideas please. Maybe a list of pictureboxes and then populate each picturebox with the solid color ? Thanks

  Hello - I am having trouble understanding the Phing documentation regarding multiple conditions for a given tag. It implies you cannot have multiple conditions unless you use the tag, but there are no examples of how to use it. Consequently I nested two tags, however I feel silly doing this when I know there is a better way. • what to do with compile fcgi executable

  I have fastcgi installed and running. I downloaded a developerkit from fastcgi.com. It had some examples in it. One of the example files echos some stuff. It required a .libs and a .deps I put those folders along with a echo.fcgi file and into the webroot/cgi-bin. If I got to the echo.fcgi url, it works great. I created a simple c file that prints hello world. I compile it using gcc -Wall -o main -lfcgi main.c What do I do with it now? Does it require something like a perl script or php script to be executed. Or, should I just be able to put it in the webroot/cgi-bin folder and go to it's url?

  hello all i am facing problem in drawing dynamically in a picture box. i works very good when the drawing objects are few but as the drawing objects increases the response time of my GUI is getting worse and worse, my GUI works very well up to 90 drawing objects but i have to support more than 1000 so this technique didn't work for me. know i have decided to adopt layers mechanism, i mean i will draw different layers of drawing in memory and then XOR them to load the final image to my display. the question is "i Can play directly with memory do draw layers using C# (Examples needed?)" other ideas are also appreciated, (Drawing objects means the shapes line,circles etc. that i have to draw on my GUI) thanx in advance
