• Why does headless PDE Build omit directories I've specified in build.properties's bin.includes?

  One of my Eclipse plug-ins (OSGi bundles) is supposed to contain a directory (Database Elements) of .sql files. My build.properties shows: bin.includes = META-INF/,\ .,\ Database Elements/ (...which looks right to me.) When I build and run from within my interactive Eclipse IDE, everything works fine: calls to Bundle.getEntry(String) and Bundle.findEntries(String, String, bool) return valid URL objects; my tests are happy; my code is happy. When I build via headless ant script (using PDE Build), those same calls end up returning null. My tests break; my code breaks. I find that Database Elements is quietly but simply missing from my plug-in's JAR package. (META-INF and the built classes still make it in there fine.) I scoured the build log (even eventually invoking ant -verbose on the relevant portion of the build script) but saw no mention of anything helpful. What gives?

• Attach data to Richtext using flex, mysql and php(newbie)

  I'm trying to attach data to a richtext field in Flashbuilder. The data is an html string in a mysql database and I'm connecting using php. The php script is just converting to XML. The connection works because I can easily dump the data to a datagrid and I can see the string. when I try to hook the data to a Richtext field I get "object CallResponder" so I am connected, but I'm not sure how to break it down so that it is just an html string for the text field. • Making Linux smart about partition or filesystem moves with a UUID selection dialog?

  It seems to me a major part of frustration n00bs have with Linux is due to UUID changes not matching peoples intuition and just working. Does anyone know a way of making GRUB and /etc/fstab just ASK PEOPLE about UUID changes, instead of just failing after people try moving hard disk? Could this be done in Bash or such? Is there a different flag or two somewhere we could simply change? Seems like this, if made to work in common practice could be a major advantage.

• sql exception when transferring project from usb to c:\

  I'm working on a C# windows program with Visual Studio 2008. Usually, I work from school, directly on my usb drive. But when I copy the folder on my hard drive at home, an sql exception is unhandled whenever I try to write to the database. it is unhandled at the conn.Open(); line. here's the exception unhandled Database 'L:\system\project\the_project\the_project\bin\Debug\PatientMonitoringDatabase.mdf' already exists. Choose a different database name. Cannot attach the file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\My Documents\system\project\the_project\the_project\bin\Debug\PatientMonitoringDatabase.mdf' as database 'PatientMonitoringDatabase'. it's weird, because my connection string says |DataDirectory|, so it should work on any drive... here's my connection string: string connStr = "Data Source=.\\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\\PatientMonitoringDatabase.mdf; " + "Initial Catalog=PatientMonitoringDatabase; " + "Integrated Security=True"; what's going on here?

  I'm using GWT internationalization Messages. The documentation for Plural Forms says this should work: @DefaultMessage("{0} {1,number} hours {2}") @PluralText({"one", "an hour"}) String hours(String prefix, @PluralCount int count, String suffix); Well, it doesn't. Whatever value of count it still delivers DefaultMessage (e.g. "1 hours ago"). Same if I use a .properties file: hours[one]=an hour hours[few]=some hours hours={0} {1,number} hours {2} Is there a bug in the docs or in GWT (I'm using GWT 2.0.3) or in me? If any of the two former, anyone knows of a workaround?

  Given a EF-Code First CTP5 entity layout like: public class Person { ... } which has a collection of: public class Address { ... } which has a single association of: public class Mailbox { ... } I want to do: PersonQuery.Include(x => x.Addresses).Include("Addresses.Mailbox") WITHOUT using a magic string. I want to do it using a lambda expression. I am aware what I typed above will compile and will bring back all Persons matching the search criteria with their addresses and each addresses' mailbox eager loaded, but it's in a string which irritates me. • UrlHelper and ViewContext inside an Authorization Attribute

  I have a scenario that I haven't been able to solve: I'm toying around with creating my own custom authorization attribute for mvc. The main bit of functionality I would like to add is to have the ability to change where the user gets redirected if they are not in a certain role. I don't mind that the system sends them back to the login page if they're not authenticated, but I would like to choose where to send them if they are authenticated but not allowed to access that action method. Here's is what I would like to do: public class CustomAuthorizeAttribute : AuthorizeAttribute { public string Action; public string Controller; protected override bool AuthorizeCore(System.Web.HttpContextBase httpContext) { // if User is authenticated but not in the correct role string url = Url.Action(this.Action, this.Controller); httpContext.Response.Redirect(url); } } And as an added bonus I would like to have access to ViewContext and TempData before I do the redirect. A width for the word wrapping rich text control/editor How do I know the height of the content after it have performed all the word wrapping? Is there something like int MeasureRichTextHeightAfterWordWrap(string aRichTextContent, int aWidth)? Otherwise how does those rich text control know how much to autosize? Do I have to actually place the content on a dummy rich text control and get its height afterwards? Question B. Similar to question A but in plain text onto a plain text memo/control/editor. And manually draw string with manually calculated indentations, breaks, word wrappings. Is it easier or harder?

  I'm attempting to take an NSImage and convert it to a string which I can write in an XML document. My current attempt looks something like this: [xmlDocument setCharacterEncoding: @"US-ASCII"]; NSData* data = [image TIFFRepresentation]; NSString* string = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:data encoding:NSASCIIStringEncoding]; //Put string inside of NSXMLElement, write out NSXMLDocument. • Hibernate: How do I link a subclass to its superclass?

  Hey there! I'm having a little problem setting up my webshop project. Thing is, I have a User() superclass and two subclasses, PrivateUser and BusinessUser. Now, I'm not quite sure how to get my head around storing this relationship via hibernate. For the purpose of this question, the User() class contains only one field: String address; the PrivateUser contains: String firstName; and the BusinessUser contains: String CompanyName; Each field has its getter and setter. As is right now, I would only store and be able to get firstName and companyName. When I fetch a user from my DB using Hibernate I would get a PrivateUser/BusinessUser with a null address. Bottom line is, could someone point me towards a useful tutorial or better yet show a similar example code? Thanks!

• WCF issues with KnownType for Dictionary

  Hi, I have a service that implements the following DataMember: [DataMember] public Dictionary<string, List<IOptionQueryResult>> QueryResultItems { get; set; } I have the class "OptionQuerySingleResult" which inherits from IOptionQueryResult. Now, I understand that I need to make the OptionQueryResult type "known" to the Service and thus tried to add the KnownType in various ways: [KnownType(typeof(Dictionary<string, OptionQuerySingleResult[]>))] [KnownType(typeof(Dictionary<string, List<OptionQuerySingleResult>>))] [KnownType(typeof(OptionQuerySingleResult)] However, none of those approaches worked and on the client side I'm either getting that deserialization failed or the server simply aborted the request, causing a connection aborted error. Does anyone have an idea on what's the proper way to get this to work? I'd like to add, the if I change the QueryResultItems definition to use the concrete type, instead of the interface, everything works just fine. Thanks, Tom

  These two methods appear to behave the same to me public IEnumerable<string> GetNothing() { return Enumerable.Empty<string>(); } public IEnumerable<string> GetLessThanNothing() { yield break; } I've profiled each in test scenarios and I don't see a meaningful difference in speed, but the yield break version is slightly faster. Are there any reasons to use one over the other? Is one easier to read than the other? Is there a behavior difference that would matter to a caller?

  I'm trying to get a deeper understanding of laziness in Haskell. I was imagining the following snippet today: data Image = Image { name :: String, pixels :: String } image :: String -> IO Image image path = Image path <$> readFile path The appeal here is that I could simply create an Image instance and pass it around; if I need the image data it would be read lazily - if not, the time and memory cost of reading the file would be avoided: main = do image <- image "file" putStrLn $ length $ pixels image But is that how it actually works? How is laziness compatible with IO? Will readFile be called regardless of whether I access pixels image or will the runtime leave that thunk unevaluated if I never refer to it? If the image is indeed read lazily, then isn't it possible I/O actions could occur out of order? For example, what if immediately after calling image I delete the file? Now the putStrLn call will find nothing when it tries to read.

• compare previous ENCRYPT() call with new ENCRYPT() call mysql

  I'm storing a string in mysql with the ENCRYPT() function. I want to fetch a row where that string is matched, but the new ENCRYPT() call gives me a different value, so they never match. This is expected as i'm not (and can't) give it a consistent salt: http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/encryption-functions.html#function_encrypt If no salt argument is given, a random value is used. This is the query i'm running that returns empty: SELECT * FROM `table` WHERE ENCRYPT('string') = `enc_string` I know this is possible because this is used by a 3rd party app, but I can't find their query where they do this. Is there a way to force ENCRYPT to use the previous salt, or predict it?

Type t = typeof(T); // I pass <T> in as a paramter, where myObj is of type T tagBuilder.Attributes.Add("class", t.Name); foreach (PropertyInfo prop in t.GetProperties()) { object propValue = prop.GetValue(myObj, null); string stringValue = propValue != null ? propValue.ToString() : String.Empty; tagBuilder.Attributes.Add(prop.Name, stringValue); } This works great, except I want it to only do this for primitive types, like string, int, double, bool etc. I want it to ignore everything else. Can anyone suggest how I do this? Or do I need to specify the types I want to allow somewhere and switch on the property's type to see if it's allowed? That's a little messy, so it'd be nice if I there was a tidier way.

• valueOf() vs. toString() in Javascript

  In Javascript every object has a valueOf() and toString() method. I would have thought that the toString() method got invoked whenever a string conversion is called for, but apparently it is trumped by valueOf(). For example, the code var x = {toString: function() {return "foo"; }, valueOf: function() {return 42; }}; window.console.log ("x="+x); window.console.log ("x="+x.toString()); will print x=42 x=foo This strikes me as backwards .. if x were a complex number, for example, I would want valueOf() to give me its magnitude (so that zero would become special), but whenever I wanted to convert to a string I would want something like "a+bi". And I wouldn't want to have to call toString() explicitly in contexts that implied a string. Is this just the way it is?
