• How can I install Ubuntu Saucy Server with BTRFS?

  So, a week ago I installed the latest beta version of Ubuntu Saucy Server in a MacMini using BTRFS as only partition to mount "/" on it (I know it's not recommended to do this, but it's not the point here) with no problems et al. Everything went just "naturally"... Now with the released image of 13.10 server, I just can't get any BTRFS partition done from installer. I'm getting a "Can't create filesystem" error whenever I try to create any BTRFS partition, like the 13.10 server final installer can't handle format BTRFS partitions... Am I doing something wrong? Or it's a bug in the installer? Is there anything that I can do to workaround this and get my BTRFS partition set on installation, or I'll need to work this after the installation. I can just leave some space left and create a btrfs partition later on, with Saucy already installed and proceed to use to LXC (which is my solo purpose to have btrfs), but anyway, why installer can't do btrfs anymore?

• Nvidia G96 [GeForce 9400 GT] and application graphic issues

  I've got a quite old NVIDIA graphic card and I with installed restricted drivers from Settings panel (as also shown in this thread). ? ~ lspci 02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G96 [GeForce 9400 GT] (rev a1) I tried a lot of them: version 173-update, current, beta, but the only one that can run unity-2d it's current-update. That's Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 64bit. However... Unity crashes, sometimes windows border disappear, Java Virtual Machine doesn't works, font rendering it's slow and so on. How can I solve this? Some suggestions? Thanks!

• SCSF for Visual Studio 2010

  The Smart Client Software Factory (SCSF) version for Visual Studio 2010 is supposed to be released sometime this week.  The updated (final?) source code is available on the patterns & practices site already, but I'm guessing it could be updated again due to changes found during the final testing. You'll need the Visual Studio 2010 SDK as well as the new versions of the Guidance Automation Extensions (GAX) and the Guidance Automation Toolkit (GAT) for the SCSF. • Install packages with unmet dependencies

  Hi all, I am trying to install some applications but some of them fail to install. The three applications I tried are Vim, Emacs and GNOME-Do. I am using Ubuntu 10.10 installed as a guest OS in VirtualBox. The kernel version installed is 2.6.35-26. • HDWF [was OHDF]

  Acronyms, acronyms ... same name (Oracle Healthcare Data Warehouse Foundation). Now it goes by HDWF. Don't ask me why. HDWF Version 2.0 was released quietly on 12 May. I'm told it is available on eDelivery. I've been spending more time working on HDWF this month. There's no question Oracle is moving at full-steam on this one. I've even spent a few nights this week working on India time with the team over there. We're busy moving Oracle's Operating Room Analytics application onto the new HDWF enterprise healthcare model. It's really been a great illustration of the comprehensiveness of the model. It was easily able accomodate all of the information required by ORA downstream.

• "Unrecoverable error" during installation

  I have an old Dell computer and I want to switch from windows xp and install the new ubuntu. I have tried multiple times to download it via cd-r but keep getting the same error message: unrecoverable error. The error happens after the menu which lists try ubuntu, install ubuntu, etc.It only gets as far as the Screen with a toolbar on the top that includes power, sound, and two arrows. That is when the message displays. switching to desktop version to find what the problem is( or something like that.) What is going wrong?

You can obtain it using the PayPal buttons here. All in a good cause too. Creation of how-to information like this for functional or technical tasks, along with working examples about post-install steps, configurations and customizations, is what an applications community value-add is all about. Each community is different of course, an Adobe PhotoShop community might be more interested in templates. Great to see the needs of the community being met like this. • Ubuntu on a netbook. Wait for 12.10?

  My friend has a really slow 2 yr old Toshiba netbook with 1GB of RAM. She is annoyed how slow Windows Starter runs on it so I suggested switching to Ubuntu. Since 12.10 is due in a few days, I'm not sure if we should wait before installing Ubuntu or if we should install it now in order to use Unity 2D. For a low-end device, should we use Unity 2D or use Unity 3D on 12.10 since Unity 2D is no longer present in 12.10? I understand Unity 3D has been greatly improved but is it faster than Unity 2D in the LTS version for a low-spec'd device?

• Visual NHibernate Update

  I have previously talked about Visual NHibernate. It has grown since last time, now offering support for multiple databases (SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Firebird), generates projects from existing databases or from existing Visual Studio projects and produces XML or Fluent mappings, to name just a few. To me it is by far the most interesting tools for working with NHibernate I know of (granted, I haven't tried NHibernate Profiler). For a limited period, Slyce Software is offering a 30% discount, until the final version is released, so you may want to have a look. Please note that I am in no way related to Slyce, but made some feature requests which have been implemented (thanks, Gareth!).

  I've bought a vps server a few days ago, with Ubuntu on it, but I have a problem now. By nearly all the commands I put in I get this error: : command not found. I am logging in as root. I think this is the Ubuntu version I have: ubuntu-8.04-i386-minimal. (Maybe it has to do with 'minimal'? I really don't know.) • Visual Studio 2012 - Setting the target framework in C++ Projects

  The Visual Studio 2012 doesn’t have a UI to set the Target Framework in C++ Projects.     Target Framework : 4.0   The online documentation does say to edit the .vcxproj project and change the TargetFrameworkVersion Tag. However, The C++ projects don’t have that tag by default. They just assume that the target framework is v4.0.   Instead, you have to add the TargetFrameworkVersion-Tag to the PropertyGroup Globals.   1: <PropertyGroup Label="Globals"> 2: ... 3: <RootNamespace>...</RootNamespace> 4: <TargetFrameworkVersion>v4.5</TargetFrameworkVersion> 5: </PropertyGroup>   When you reload the project, the target framework version in your project will be changed.   I have a Dell Inspiron 3521 with hybrid ATI/Intel graphics. (AMD Radeon 7670M / Intel HD 4000) using Ubuntu 14.04 with open source drivers for graphics. (xserver-xorg-video-ati) I read that Ubuntu 14.04 with the linux kernel version 3.13 supports auto switching between graphics and dynamic power management. Is it correct? Anyway, if it is true, I dont think that it is working in my system , because fan runs constantly and battery backup is less than 2 hours. lspci | grep -i vga 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller (rev 09) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. • Ubuntu 13.10 software raid

  I had already Ubuntu OS installed on my desktop PC, where the software RAID 5 is configured ( 3 partitions /, swap and home ). This system was upgraded from the 11.04 till 13.04, it was quite messy, so I decided to install fresh system on existing partitions. 1st of all i found that there is no alternate version of the installer ( which i used to create previous installation ), so i stared with the regular image. I installed mdadm tools, assemble the partitions - fdisk are showing them properly - so i'm starting the installation - and everything i going fine until the GRUB instalation - this part fails - regardless of which partition i use as a target. From the other hand, neither OpenSUse and Ubuntu 12.04 alternate does not have any problems with installing the GRUB - on this configuration, unfortunatelly Ubuntu 12.04 - 12.10 upgrade is failing bacause of some Xorg issues ;(. Maybe someone has an experience with installation of ubuntu 13.10 GRUB on the RAID 5 partitions - and could give me a hint, how to solve my problem. Thanks in advance, Piotr

• After installing Ubuntu using WUBI, starting Ubuntu does not get further than the GRUB prompt

  I'm trying to install Ubuntu. I put Ubuntu on a USB flash drive using the WUBI installer. I get to where it finishes the install and it wants me to reboot. But when I reboot and then select Ubuntu, I get a black screen that says GNU GRUB version 1.99-21ubuntu3 Minimal BASH-like editing is supported. for the first word. TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists possible device or file completions. Grub> When I type in some commands it says "Kernel not specified" and the rest of the commands give no feed back what so ever. What did i do wrong? Can anyone point me in the right direction. Please help this is very frustrating any help would be useful.

  There is a developer, lets call him John (currently on probationary period) in company(pretty small company approx. 10 persons, 3 developers, one of them works long in this company know business process around and can be consider as Team leader) who didn't want to use any IDE at all(he is using some text editor). Application this team working on is medium size Java application with Spring Hibernate technology stack and refactoring/adding new features to launch new version of that application in near future. John performance working without IDE on this application is lower then desirable, team leader's (lets call him Bill) assumption is this happens because John is not using IDE. Bill try to persuade John to use IDE, but this idea meets a lot of resistance and main reason is "I want to be in total control of what I am doing, so I need to write all code by myself". How can Bill convince John to try to use IDE? (considering the fact what Bill already protected John from company owner several complaints about John performance)

• Why rewrite directive causes "301 Moved Permanently" with Nginx?

  Below is a much simplified version of what I have in the configuration file of a server run by Nginx 1.2.5, yet it causes 301 Moved Permanently with Location: http://example.com/phpmyadmin/ before serving data, which is not what I expected from the default behavior of the rewrite directive. server { listen 80; location /pma { rewrite ^ /phpmyadmin; } location /phpmyadmin { root /var/www; index Documentation.html; } } When I follow http://example.com/pma, the data is served but the URL in the browser is changed to http://example.com/phpmyadmin/ while it was supposed to stay http://example.com/pma. How do I avoid Nginx sending 301 Moved Permanently so that it doesn't expose the actual directory structure on my server?

• Bumblebee - Poor performance with games

  I have an Alienware M14x (GeForce 650m with Optimus) and got Bumblebee working correctly (trying to get ready for steam for linux :)). Also I'm running Ubuntu 12.10 with Unity. I get great framerates with glxgears and sauerbraten (a game on the repositories), but when I run games like Bastion and Splice, I get pretty terrible framerate, in fact worse than my integrated intel gpu. I have nvidia-current installed under ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates so it's driver version 310.xx. Also I forgot to add that I haven't been able to test other drivers because they seem to break glx (x can't load the glx module). I've been troubleshooting this for days now, and I'm very nearly out of ideas. Any hints on why only some games are running so poorly with bumblebee?

• Issue with CSS font color in Webkit in Lion (#444 looks darker than #333)

  I have a strange issue with Safari and Chrome Mac (19.0.1084.54) in OS X Lion. Here it is, very simply put: When I display it in a Webkit browser, text set in Helvetica Neue and color Hex #444 looks a little bolder, and therefore darker, than the same text with an Hex color value of #333. This does not happen at all in Snow Leopard with the exact same browsers (same version). Happens on any website I tried, so I know it's not something related to the CSS of my website. I tried to change it live through the Inspector and it really shows up. • Can't get HP Officejet 6500 card reader to work.

  This network (wired) printer works great using the latest HPLIP drivers. However when I plug in an SD card, it just blinks and never shows up mounted anywhere. Has anyone come up with a way to mount these? • Moonlight extension not working with new Firefox versions

  The web browser I use is Firefox (currently in version 8 in Oneiric). According the Compatibility Check information the Moonlight extension is not compatible with FF8. Anyway, I enabled this extension using the AddOn Compatibility Reporter. And, actually, I cannot watch Silverlight streams in an acceptable way: the video gets stuck, the HD keeps buffering (I guess), so I have to close the window. Does anybody know if there is a way to fix this or a suitable alternative? I'm looking for something which is fully supported and mantained.

• farseer physics xbox samples not working

  I have downloaded a few of the sample projects from the official farseer physics website and i just cant get them to run on my xbox. -My connection to the xbox is fine, other xbox projects debug fine on my xbox -I have tried running both the xbox versions of the samples (for example the farseer hello world sample project) and the windows version by right-clicking the project and making a copy for xbox. I get a bunch of errors but what i always get is "unreachable code detected" referring to code in the farseer library, it seems to be a problem to do with referencing/linking the farseer library to the main game project. Help please!
