• IE 7 CSS problem with detecting mouse over on div

  I have a div inside an li as part of a top navigation for a website. I'm having trouble with IE 7 having "holes" in the box such that the drop down disappears when the user is still on the drop down. I started with a pure CSS solution (li:hover) and that works awesome in all browsers except IE 7. So I've now added a jQuery/javascript solution to detect when the mouse enters and exits the nav li and then add a class to show the drop down. It works better, but if the mouse is not over an image, p, h3, or a tag then it doesn't think I'm over the div that is the drop down. Very frustrating. I can post some test code, but the issue can be viewed here: http://davincidays.org/ Anyone have any ideas? I've been working on this for waaaay too long already and need some fresh things to try.

• Best practice: How to persist simple data without a database in django?

  I'm building a website that doesn't require a database because a REST API "is the database". (Except you don't want to be putting site-specific things in there, since the API is used by mostly mobile clients) However there's a few things that normally would be put in a database, for example the "jobs" page. You have master list view, and the detail views for each job, and it should be easy to add new job entries. (not necessarily via a CMS, but that would be awesome) e.g. example.com/careers/ and example.com/careers/77/ I could just hardcode this stuff in templates, but that's no DRY- you have to update the master template and the detail template every time. What do you guys think? Maybe a YAML file? Or any better ideas? Thx

• iOS sdk question: how do I cast a UIView to a UIImage View (alternativly how do I get a UIImageView from a GestureRecognzer?)

  Desired end result: user taps a UIImageView and the image changes to another image (a subsequent tap returns the image to the original state) Problem: I add a (unique) selector to a bunch of UIImageViews (in an array) and point the action at the same function - let's call this function imageTapped: for now. Here is my code so far: -(void)imageTapped:(UITapGestureRecognizer *)tapGesture { UIImageView *view = tapGesture.view; // rest of code... } This code actually works fine but gets a warning when I run it: "Incompatible objective c types initilizing 'struct UIView *', expected 'struct UIImageView *' Any way to get rid of this? Not sure how casting works in objective c... primitive types seem to work fine such as (int)someFloat works fine but (UIImageView)someUiView doesn't work. Like I said, code works alright when I run it but would like to get ride of the compiler warning. Any help would be awesome.... I am very new to objective c (or any non java language for that matter) so be gentle. Thanks in advance.

• Possibility of initiating playback of flash video on headless server through the terminal

  Hey so I have a website which has video's gathered from places around the web, primarily youtube but a few other's as well. Now I am wondering if there is some way to check link's to make sure they are still available through a unix shell. (My idea is to run a cron to check videos are still available and if not delete them.) I am aware i could use user to do this but it always bothered me and was wondering if there is somehow to check the playback of a flash video though the terminal . Any insight into this would be awesome as I haven't found much on the web. Also note ideally the tech. will work on all video type's including html5. update So it's occured to me that through the you tube api, I could check the status of the video's coming from youtube (which is a start). But I would love to know if there's something else that is not player specific but rather just calls the video to play similar to how a user would.

• How to call a custom php file on magento product page

  if getChildHtml('product_type_data') ? maps directly to catalog/product/view/type/simple.phtml by default, how do I map to my own file? If I wanted to create a file that would produce a small image to place on the product page, right under "availability" how would I tell magento to map to where I have put the file? From what I understand getChildHtml('product_type_data') ? defaults to the file path: catalog/product/view/type/simple.phtml so how can I customize the magento defaults and tell it to map to my custom files i've created? I hope I have explained this well enough, if not, please let me know and I will try to explain more. Any help or guidance would be awesome. Thanks.

  symfony has released some of their components free to use outside the framework. i have used the event dispatcher and dependency injection...they are awesome! i wonder if there are other components/libraries (from other frameworks etc) that in the same way help you manage various design patterns? eg. decorator, facade, singleton, chain of commands etc. i think symfony is on the right path, abstracting away the design patterns. are there any other components out there doing the same? thanks

• Android TranslateAnimation resets after animation

  I'm creating something like a SlideDrawer but with most customization, basically the thing is working but the animation is flickering at the end. To further explain, I got an TranslateAnimation then after this animation it returns back to the original position, if i set setFillAfter then the buttons inside the layout stops working. If i listen to onAnimationEnd and set other's layout to View.GONE the layout fickers. Judging from it is that on animation end, the view goes back to original position before the View.GONE is called. Any advice would be awesome. Thanks

• Overlapping divs, absolutely relative?

  A wordpress theme I'm working on has headlines which span across the entire content area. These headlines are overlapped by the sidebar which is absolutely positioned at 100% width. The issue, is when the sidebar's content exceeds the page's content, it stretches OUT of my wrapper overtop of the footer without forcing the it down (because it's absolute and nothing else is). So my question is, how would it be possible to make a absolutely positioned div, become relative and essentially "push" my footer down, or is there a better way to do this? Also, if anyone has examples of how this has been done would be awesome! edit: The sidebar is absolutely positioned so it can lay over top of the sidebar.   I've recently started a new job working with webdevelopment in .NET. Coming from a php and rails background i've been working mainly in Eclipse and NetBeans, along with some TextMate. I find myself missing a few great keyboard shortcuts and i can't seem to find a Visual Studio equivalent. NetBeans has the awesome "Go To File" and so does Eclipse with this plugin. Eclipse also has the option of quick searching in the open file list with Cmd/Ctrl-E. Is there something like this in Visual Studio? Either build in or via plugin. Or is there some other way of quickly navigating between files that's prefered?

• Can hash tables really be O(1)

  It seems to be common knowledge that hash tables can achieve O(1) but that has never made sense to me. Can someone please explain it? A. The value is an int smaller than the size of the hash table, so the value is its own hash, so there is no hash table but if there was it would be O(1) and still be inefficient. B. You have to calculate the hash, so the order is O(n) for the size of the data being looked up. The lookup might be O(1) after you do O(n) work, but that still comes out to O(n) in my eyes. And unless you have a perfect hash or a large hash table there are probably several items per bucket so it devolves into a small linear search at some point anyway. I think hash tables are awesome, but I do not get the O(1) designation unless it is just supposed to be theoretical.

  I have an assoc array with a list of what are parameters to me. Here's an example: array( 'param1' => 'value1', 'param4' => 'value4', 'param3' => 'value3', 'param2' => 'value2', ); Note that they may come unsorted. Now, is there a way I can make a call (static or from an instance, using call_user_func_array or similar) and correctly pass each value to each parameter? Just to be sure, an example function I'd like to call using that parameter array is one such this: exampleFunction($param1, $param2, $param3, $param4) { ... } PS: Reflection is great, but I'm concerned about execution times (which, at least, in Java tends to increase a lot when using Reflection). If you know any other way to do so, it would be awesome.

  Hello, my question is how would i be able to go through a string and take out only the links and erase all the rest? I thought about using some type of delemiter, but wouldnt know how to go about using it in java. an example of what i am trying to do: this is my String: String myString = "The file is http: // www. .com/hello.txt and the second file is " + "http: // www. .com/hello2.dat"; I would want the output to be: "http: // www. .com/hello.txt http: // www. .com/hello2.dat" or each could be added to an array, separately. I just want some ideas, id like to write the code myself but am having trouble on how to do it. Any help would be awesome.

• Java - Count words in two documents

  Good Morning - it is school assignment, I am not asking for any source code (if you can provide any pesudo code it would be awesome). Here is the problem :( I have to create a term frequency table. It is not pure TF, I just need to count the words and write down. I know basic steps to do it 1 - extract all terms (I can do it with file reader) 2 - remove repeating terms (I can do it with TreeMap) The output of 2nd step would be Niga, ponga, dinga, bitlo, etc. 3 - Now I have to see if there is any word in current file from above terms or not, if yes then I will count. Now this is my problem, I stucked on step 3 :( I have some idea how to count words with TreeMap (treemap.containskey etc.) but it would be global count not local count for each file :( Any pseudo code?

  Is there a way to remove the period and everything after it using jQuery? The numbers following the period vary in length, so it's not as simple as finding the length. • .Htaccess & Wildcard Subdomains — Can't get other variables to work!

  It would be absolutely awesome if someone could help me out here. I have a domain, let's call it "example.com". I have wildcard subdomains setup and working great. The only problem is I can't get htaccess to see anything else like subdomain.example.com/profile/some_name/some_id_number/. In fact, I can type any garbage after the domain and it will still just show me the home screen. Here's what's in my htaccess file now: Options +FollowSymLinks Options +Indexes Options -Multiviews RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{REQUEST_URI} !^/app/index.php RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.example\.com RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^([^.]+)\.example\.com RewriteRule (.*) /app/index.php?user%1 [L] I can see why that wouldn't work yet, but I wanted to add something similar to the following: RewriteRule ^profile/([^/]+)/([^/]+) /app/index.php?page=profile&username=$1&user_id=$2 [nc] But it's not working at all. The server doesn't even really show signs that it's even seeing it there. Any ideas?

• Windows Media Player won't launch on Vista - how to repair or reinstall it?

  My friend asked me to look at her Acer Aspire laptop with Vista Home Premium as it is no longer playing DVDs. I found that Windows Media Player would not launch. I found this thread, which contained a number of suggestions, none of which solved the problem. Here is what I tried: Tried running WMP via desktop shortcut, QuickLaunch bar or going to Program Files\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe. In all cases, wmplayer would launch then terminate immediately (verified through the Processes tab in Task Manager). Tried running wmplayer.exe as Administrator. The UAC dialog would come up, I'd approve, then wmplayer would launch and terminate immediately. Uninstalled all non-Microsoft media programs except RealPlayer, iTunes, QuickTime, Acer Arcade (the laptop owner uses all those apps). Tried running Program Files\Windows Media Player\setup_wm.exe as Administrator, it launched but said that a newer version of WMP was already installed. Deleted the "Windows Media" folder located under %userprofile%\appdata\local\Microsoft then tried starting WMP - wmplayer would launch and terminate immediately. Register wmp.dll by typing "regsvr32 wmp.dll" in an Administrator cmd window then tried starting WMP - wmplayer would launch and terminate immediately. Run "SFC /SCANFILE" in an Administrator cmd window - get an error message that it found invalid system files and could not fix them, so look at the log file cbs.log. The log file shows that there are broken files associated with Windows Sidebar (which the user does not use) but none relating to WMP. Log off to safe mode and run "SFC /SCANFILE" in an Administrator cmd window again - same results. Try to download and install XP WMP - the microsoft.com site recognizes the OS as Genuine and allows the download, but when I launch the installer it says the system is not Genuine. Clicking the link directs me back to IE where I can authenticate the system as Genuine. The installer still fails to recognize the system as Genuine. It is a Genuine Vista installation. Try to run this update (KB931621). The installer said it did not apply to the system. Set Windows Media Player as default in Program Access and Defaults. Same results. Tried running "for %a in (%systemroot%\system32\wm*.dll) do regsvr32 /s %a" in an Administrator cmd window - same results. Went to this Knowledge Base article (947541) and ran the Microsoft Fix It. The Fix It ran successfully, but WMP would still launch and terminate immediately. Multiple reboots in the process of doing all of these steps. After all this, looked in the Application and Security logs. No events pertaining to WMP were logged. The computer was preinstalled with Vista Home Premium and I have the Acer backup DVDs which will reimage the drive. I do not have Vista install DVDs. Reimaging the system is not an option. I'd also rather not restore the system to an earlier point unless it's absolutely necessary. What else can I do to repair or reinstall WMP?

• SSIS - Access Denied with UNC paths - The file name is a device or contains invalid characters

  I spent another day tearing my hair out yesterday trying to resolve an issue with SSIS packages runnning in SQLAgent (not got much left at the moment, maybe I should contact the SSIS team for a wig). My situation was that I am deploying packages to a development server, and to provide isolation I was running jobs with a proxy account that only had access to the development servers. Proxies are an awesome feature and mean that you should never have to "just run the job as sysadmin". The issue I was facing was that the job step was failing. The job step was a simple execution of the package.The following errors appeared in my log file. I always check the "Log step output in history" for a job step, this ensures you get all the output from the command that you run. I'll blog about this later. If looking at the output in sysdtslog90 then you will have an entry with datacode -1073573533 and error message File or directory "<filename>" represented by connection "<connection>" does not exist.  Not exactly helpful. If you get the output from the console then you will also get these errors. 0xC0202070 "The file name property is not valid. The file name is a device or contains invalid characters." 0xC001401E "specified in the connection was not valid." It appears this error is due to the use of a UNC path and the account runnnig the package not having access to all the folders in the path. Solution To solve this you need to ensure that the proxy account has access to ALL folders in the path you are accessing. To check this works, logon as the relevant proxy user, or run a command window as the specified user. Then try and do net use \\server\share and then do a dir for each folder in the path and check you have access. If these work and you still have the problem then you have some other problem, sorry.   Most people have heard of it but not everyone is familiar or comfortable with how to use this bastion of geekdom. This week we would like to know if you use the command line or not. The command line…the bastion of ultimate geekery in many peoples’ eyes. You often hear people referring to doing things using the command line, so there must be something to it, right? For some people using the command line is the best, most efficient, and easiest way to do things on their systems. These are the people that many of us wish we were like. Next you have those who are proficient at using the command line but do not rely on it for everything they do on their systems. Then there are people who know how to perform some tasks or hacks using the command line but may not be as comfortable or knowledgeable as they wish to be using it. Moving on you find those who are interested in learning how to use the command line and just need a small push to get started.  Perhaps you feel too intimidated to learn it and just need the right opportunity to come along. And maybe you do not care one way or the other so long as you get done what you want to do on your system. Or you may prefer to simply use a graphical interface since that is quicker and easier for you (along with being familiar).
