  • In the Firing Line: The impact of project and portfolio performance on the CEO

For corporate boards, business analysts, investors, and the trade press the metrics they deploy are relatively binary in nature; what is being done to generate earnings, and what is being done to build and sustain high performance? As for the market, interest is primarily aroused when operational and financial performance falls outside planned commitments for the year. When organizations announce better than predicted results, they usually experience an immediate increase in share price. Likewise, poor results have an obviously negative impact on the share price and impact the role and tenure of the incumbent CEO. The danger for the CEO is that the risk of failure is ever present, ranging from manufacturing delays and supply chain issues to labor shortages and scope creep. This risk is enhanced by the involvement of secondary suppliers providing services critical to overall work schedules, and magnified further across a portfolio of programs and projects underway at any one time – and all set within a global context. All can impact planned return on investment and have an inevitable impact on the share price – the primary empirical measure of day-to-day performance. Read this complete complementary report, In the Firing Line and explore what is the direct link between the health of the portfolio and CEO performance. This report will provide an overview of the responsibility the CEO has for implementing and maintaining a culture of accountability, offer examples of some of the higher profile project failings in recent years, and detail the capabilities available to the CEO to mitigate the risks residing in their own portfolios. • GameStateManagement and inputs not being recognized

    - by Dave Voyles
    EDIT: I've removed a bit of code from the input class to make this more readable, and updated my StartScreen class, which is now at the bottom. I have the same issues though, but they are explained in my comments on the bottom of this page. It won't let me paste my additional code here (the format comes out crazy), so I've linked to pastebin with the code pastebin I've been trying to implement the MS provided GameStateManagement sample with my game, but it has proven a bit difficult. Really, I'm using Oneksoft's Starter Kit, which uses the MS provided sample, so they are identical, except for my splash screen. I'm able to get the splash screen to launch, where it informs the player to press A to advance the screen, but this doesn't seem to accept any of my inputs. I’ve also added Console.Writeline(“Pressing A”) under the IsMenuPressed method in Input.cs to verify that it is getting called, but for some reason it is constantly spamming my log, rather than just appearing each time I press it. Not sure why this is happening. I have a bit too much code to post it all here, so I’ve attached a link to my .rar with my classes, but I’ll also leave a bit here which I thinkmay be applicable. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6ek4uru2jc2ch0k/JTeBWN_3PQ What do you guys think the issue is? namespace Pong { public class Input { public const int MaxInputs = 4; public readonly KeyboardState[] CurrentKeyboardState; public readonly GamePadState[] CurrentGamePadState; public KeyboardState[] LastKeyboardState; public GamePadState[] LastGamePadState; public readonly bool[] GamePadWasConnected; public Input() { // Get input state CurrentKeyboardState = new KeyboardState[MaxInputs]; CurrentGamePadState = new GamePadState[MaxInputs]; // Preserving last states to check for isKeyUp events LastKeyboardState = CurrentKeyboardState; LastGamePadState = CurrentGamePadState; } /// <summary> /// Checks for a "menu select" input action. /// The controllingPlayer parameter specifies which player to read input for. /// If this is null, it will accept input from any player. • Instead of the specified Texture, black circles on a green background are getting rendered. Why?

    - by vinzBad
    I'm trying to render a Texture via OpenGL. But instead of the texture black circles on a green background are rendered. (They scale, depending what the rotation of the texture is) Example: The texture I'm trying to render is the following: This is the code I use to render the texture, it's located in my Sprite-class. public void Render() { Matrix4 matrix = Matrix4.CreateTranslation(-OriginX, -OriginY, 0) * Matrix4.CreateRotationZ(Rotation) * Matrix4.CreateTranslation(X, Y, 0); Vector2[] corners = { new Vector2(0,0), //top left new Vector2(Width ,0),//top right new Vector2(Width,Height),//bottom rigth new Vector2(0,Height)//bottom left }; //copy the corners to the uv coordinates Vector2[] uv = corners.ToArray<Vector2>(); //transform the coordinates for (int i = 0; i < 4; i++) corners[i] = new Vector2(Vector3.Transform(new Vector3(corners[i]), matrix)); //GL.Color3(TintColor); GL.BindTexture(TextureTarget.Texture2D, _ID); GL.Begin(BeginMode.Quads); { for (int i = 0; i < 4; i++) { GL.TexCoord2(uv[i]); GL.Vertex3(corners[i].X, corners[i].Y, _layerDepth); } } GL.End(); if (EnableDebugDraw) { GL.Color3(Color.Violet); GL.PointSize(3); GL.Begin(BeginMode.Points); { for (int i = 0; i < 4; i++) GL.Vertex2(corners[i]); } GL.End(); GL.Color3(Color.Green); GL.Begin(BeginMode.Points); GL.Vertex2(X, Y); GL.End(); } } This is how I setup OpenGL. public static void SetupGL() { GL.Enable(EnableCap.AlphaTest); GL.AlphaFunc(AlphaFunction.Greater, 0.1f); GL.Enable(EnableCap.Texture2D); GL.Hint(HintTarget.PerspectiveCorrectionHint, HintMode.Nicest); } With this function I load the texture: public static uint LoadTexture(string path) { uint id; GL.GenTextures(1, out id); GL.BindTexture(TextureTarget.Texture2D, id); Bitmap bitmap = new Bitmap(path); BitmapData data = bitmap.LockBits(new System.Drawing.Rectangle(0, 0, bitmap.Width, bitmap.Height), ImageLockMode.ReadOnly, System.Drawing.Imaging.PixelFormat.Format32bppArgb); GL.TexImage2D(TextureTarget.Texture2D, 0, PixelInternalFormat.Rgba, data.Width, data.Height, 0, OpenTK.Graphics.OpenGL.PixelFormat.Bgra, PixelType.UnsignedByte, data.Scan0); bitmap.UnlockBits(data); GL.TexParameter(TextureTarget.Texture2D, TextureParameterName.TextureMinFilter, (int)TextureMinFilter.Linear); GL.TexParameter(TextureTarget.Texture2D, TextureParameterName.TextureMagFilter, (int)TextureMagFilter.Linear); return id; } And here I call Sprite.Render() protected override void OnRenderFrame(FrameEventArgs e) { GL.ClearColor(Color.MidnightBlue); GL.Clear(ClearBufferMask.ColorBufferBit); _sprite.Render(); SwapBuffers(); base.OnRenderFrame(e); } As I stole this code from the Textures-Example from OpenTK, I don't understand why this doesn't work.

She talks about installers now being standardized in Oracle for greater consistency -- no more WebLogic native installers. Also, JDK is no longer a part of the WebLogic install. The various installers she discusses include OUI, ZIP, OEPE, Coherence and more. Monica then takes us through a step by step install process. After the install process is complete the video takes us through the configuration wizard. The ZIP installer is then discussed and its effectiveness, such as it being the smallest downloadable option, easy, and very popular with our customers and limitations (such as for development only and not to be used in production) highlighted. Monica then takes us through the configuration wizard, its usage, and when to use WLST scripts. The video then discusses NodeManager and its usage and discusses how to reconfigure a WebLogic domain on upgrade – through our GUI tools or through command line interface. Lastly, it highlights Opatch – a patch application tool used by our customers and standardized across all Oracle products. Really detailed video. • UIViewController presentModalViewController: animated: doing nothing?

    - by ryyst
    Hi, I recently started a project, using Apple's Utility Application example project. In the example project, there's an info button that shows an instance of FlipSideView. If you know the Weather.app, you know what the button acts like. I then changed the MainWindow.xib to contain a scrollview in the middle of the window and a page-control view at the bottom of the window (again, like the Weather.app). The scrollview gets filled with instances of MainView. When I then clicked the info button, the FlipSideView would show, but only in the area that was previously filled by the MainView instance – this means that the page-control view on the bottom of the page still showed when the FlipSideView instance got loaded. So, I thought that I would simply add a UIViewController for the top-most window, which is the one declared inside the AppDelegate created along side with the project. So, I created a subclass of UIViewController, put an instance of it inside MainWindow.xib and connected it's view outlet to the UIWindow declared as window inside the app delegate. I also changed the button's action, so that it know sends a message to the MainWindowController instance. The message does get sent (I checked with NSLog() statements), but the FlipSideView doesn't get shown. Here's the relevant (?) code: FlipsideViewController *controller = [[FlipsideViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"FlipsideView" bundle:nil]; controller.delegate = self; controller.modalTransitionStyle = UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal; [self presentModalViewController:controller animated:YES]; [controller release]; Why's this not working? I've uploaded the entire project here for you to be able to see the whole thing. Thanks for help! -- Ry

  • jquery Ui Dialog box opacity / alpha filter broken in IE7/8 when using jquery.effects.fade.js

    - by Ideasman101
    Greetings! Goal: transparant ui dialog box in IE7/8 with fade in/out effect upon open/close. Opacity was set in css and works just fine (safari, chrome, ff ie7/8) using native effects blind / explode etc. But when using efects.fade.js on the dialog box the opacity does not work on ie7/8 We want fade in/out because that looks awesome. Anyway here is my code. Any help much appreciated. Maybe something to do with filter or cleartype. My css .ui-dialog { position: absolute; padding: .2em; width: 300px; overflow: hidden; opacity:0.85;filter:alpha(opacity=85);} My jQuery // Dialog1 $('#dialog1').dialog({ position: [250,120], autoOpen: false, closeOnEscape: true, modal: false, show: { effect: "fade", options: {}, speed: 1500 }, hide: { effect: "fade", options: {}, speed: 1500 }, resizable: false, width: 350, height: 200 }); // Dialog Link 1 $('#dialog_link1').click(function(){ $([1,2,3]).each(function(){ var num = this; $('#dialog'+num).dialog('close'); }); $('#dialog1').dialog('open'); $('body').css("background-image", "url(images/image1.jpg)"); $('body').css("background-repeat", "no-repeat"); $('body').css("background-position", "bottom center"); $('body').css("background-attachment", "fixed"); $('body').css("bottom", "0px"); return false; });

  • Title Background Wrapping

    - by laxj11
    Ok, I am pretty experienced at CSS but at this point I am at a loss. I layed out how I want the title to look like in photoshop: however, the closest I can approach it with css is: I need the black background to extend to the edges of the image and padding on the right side of the title. I hope you understand my question! thanks. here is the html: <div class="glossary_image"> <img src="<?php echo $custom_fields['image'][0]; ?>" /> <div class="title"> <h2><?php the_title(); ?></h2> </div> </div> and the css: .glossary_image { position: relative; height: 300px; width: 300px; margin-top:10px; margin-bottom: 10px; } .glossary_image .title { position: absolute; bottom: 0; left: 0; padding: 10px; } .glossary_image .title h2 { display: inline; font-family:Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 30px; font-weight:bold; line-height: 35px; color: #fff; text-transform:uppercase; background: #000; }

  • Radio button formatting in IE8 (not displaying correctly)

    - by Kevin
    I'm having a problem with getting my radio buttons laid out (and checkboxes) correctly in IE8 .. Firefox, Chrome, Opera all working however .. • Using android.view.SurfaceView with a camera on part of the screen

    - by oneself
    Hi, I trying to put together an Android app that will take a picture and process it in some way. I'd like the layout to be similar to Google Goggles. Meaning, camera preview on the top, and some controls on the bottom using portrait orientation. I've built a first version using code sample from here. This works, but I want to add a button on the bottom. I've modified my main.xml to look as follows: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <TableLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="150dp" android:stretchColumns="1"> <TableRow> <android.view.SurfaceView xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/preview" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" /> </TableRow> <Button android:id="@+id/snap" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:text="Snap" /> <TableRow> </TableRow> </TableLayout> But when I run this code I get an exception: java.lang.RuntimeException: startPreview failed. When I replace the SurfaceView above with something else, e.g. a TextView, that it displays, but in landscape. How can I get a camera preview on part of the screen using portrait view? Thanks

  • Add inset box-shadow on Google Maps element

    - by linkyndy
    I am willing to add some inset box-shadow to a tag that is containing a Google Maps element. However, it seems nothing happens, probably because Google loads some other div's in the original element, hence covering the generated box-shadow. How can I achieve this effect? Here's the code I have: <section id="map-container"> <figure id="map"></figure> </section> #map-container { position: relative; float: right; width: 700px; background-color: #F9FAFC; border-top-right-radius: 5px; border-bottom-right-radius: 5px; } #map { position: relative; height: 400px; border-top-right-radius: 5px; border-bottom-right-radius: 5px; box-shadow: 0 1px 0 0 #F6F7FB inset, 0 -1px 0 0 #E0E5E1 inset, 0 -2px 0 0 #EBEBED inset, 0 -3px 0 0 #F4F4F6 inset; } Thank you!

  • Synchronize the position of two ScrollView views

    - by Billy
    I am trying to synchronize the positions of two ScrollViews. I'm trying to do this to display a tv guide listing. I have created a custom class that extends RelativeLayout to display the guide. This relative layout has four children: an imageview in the top left corner, a HorizontalScrollView to display the column headers in the top right, a ScrollView to display the row headers at the bottom left, and a ScrollView in the bottom right that contains the listings. This ScrollView then contains a HorizontalScrollView, which in turn contains a LinearLayout with multiple child views that display the data. I hope this explains it clearly, but here's a diagram to make it clearer: ____________ |__|___hsv___| | | | | | sv -> | | | hsv -> | |sv| ll -> | | | etc | | | | |__|_________| I set it up like this because I wanted the guide listings to scroll both horizontally and vertically, but there's no scroll view that does this. Also, I want the row and column headers to display no matter what position the guide listings are at, but I want them to be lined up properly. So I'm trying to find a way to synchronize the positions of the two hsv's, and to also synchronize the positions of the two sv's. I'm also trying to do it in a way that avoids just running a handler every few milliseconds to poll one view and call scrollTo on the other. I'm in no way sure that this is the best way to do it, but this is what I've come up with. If anybody has any other suggestions, please feel free!

  • Draw Bitmap with alpha channel

    - by Paja
    I have a Format32bppArgb backbuffer, where I draw some lines: var g = Graphics.FromImage(bitmap); g.Clear(Color.FromArgb(0)); var rnd = new Random(); for (int i = 0; i < 5000; i++) { int x1 = rnd.Next(ClientRectangle.Left, ClientRectangle.Right); int y1 = rnd.Next(ClientRectangle.Top, ClientRectangle.Bottom); int x2 = rnd.Next(ClientRectangle.Left, ClientRectangle.Right); int y2 = rnd.Next(ClientRectangle.Top, ClientRectangle.Bottom); Color color = Color.FromArgb(rnd.Next(0, 255), rnd.Next(0, 255), rnd.Next(0, 255)); g.DrawLine(new Pen(color), x1, y1, x2, y2); } Now I want to copy bitmap in Paint event. I do it like this: void Form1Paint(object sender, PaintEventArgs e) { e.Graphics.DrawImageUnscaled(bitmap, 0, 0); } Hovewer, the DrawImageUnscaled copies pixels and applies the alpha channel, thus pixels with alpha == 0 won't have any effect. But I need raw byte copy, so pixels with alpha == 0 are also copied. So the result of these operations should be that e.Graphics contains exact byte-copy of the bitmap. How to do that? Summary: When drawing a bitmap, I don't want to apply the alpha channel, I merely want to copy the pixels.

  • UIKeyBoard resize on orientation change to landscape

    - by Dave
    This is very rookie question. I have a UIToolBar at the bottom which is supposed to animatedly move up and down with key board when the UIKeyBoard is displayed. I got that working with the help of UIKeyBoard Notifications. The view we are talking about has split view enabled. When device orientation is landscape, both the views as columns are shown [hope that makes sense]. When key board is shown, i do this CGSize keyBoardSize = [[notificationInfo objectForKey:UIKeyboardFrameEndUserInfoKey]CGRectValue].size; CGRect toolbarFrame= [BottomToolBar frame]; toolbarFrame.origin.y -= keyBoardSize.height; [UIView beginAnimations:nil context:nil]; [UIView setAnimationDuration:0.3]; BottomToolBar .frame = viewFrame; [UIView commitAnimations]; when key board is hiiden i do this toolbarFrame.origin.y += keyBoardSize.height; My Problem is when device orientation changes to landscape, when the key board is visible the bottom tool bar is gone. I see it move up quickly. I am not sure how to fix this. Can anyone help please? Also, is there a way to NOT make the key board span across both the views in the split view?

  • UIPageControl in a ITableViewCell gets shoved to the top left corner

    - by Danny Tuppeny
    I'm trying to put a UIPageControl inside a cell (there's nothing else in the cell), but I have two problems: The dots are aligned at the top-left of the cell, so you only see the bottom-right quarter of the first dot, and the bottom half of the other dots (like the first dots center is 0, 0). Unless you tab the cell to select it (goes blue), you can't see the dots at all. Other controls I've put into a cell have filled the whole area as wanted. How do I tell the UIPageControl to fill the whole cell (and align in the middle) How do I change the colours so the dots can be seen? I tried calling [pageControl setBackgroundColor] but it didn't seem to do anything. Here's the code I'm using: // Create a page control UIPageControl *pageControl = [[[UIPageControl alloc] init] autorelease]; // Set the number of pages to match the images [pageControl setNumberOfPages:[imageFilenames count]]; [pageControl setCurrentPage:1]; // Create the cell and add the paging control UITableViewCell *cell = [self getCell:tableView withIdentifier:@"ImagePager"]; [cell addSubview:pageControl]; //[[cell textLabel] setText:@"ADD PAGING CONTROL"]; return cell;

  • CSS sliding door background image problem.

    - by ethyreal
    I noticed I am not the first to ask about CSS sliding doors. However this seems (at least to me) to be a rather odd problem which I have not seen an answer for. Trying to create a simple rounded corner link button: html: <a href="#" class="link_button"><span>Add A New Somthing</span></a> css: .link_button { background: transparent url('img/backgrounds/bg-buttonRight.png') no-repeat scroll top right; color: #444; display: block; float: left; font: normal 12px arial; height: 41px; margin-right: 6px; padding-right: 14px; text-decoration: none; } .link_button span { background: transparent url('img/backgrounds/bg-buttonLeft.png') no-repeat top left; display: block; line-height: 31px; padding: 5px 0 5px 14px; } .link_button:active { background-position: bottom right; color: #000; outline: none; } .link_button:active span { background-position: bottom left; padding: 6px 0 4px 18px; } results: The two images are overlapping, which is what I want, but why the discoloration? Why would one be darker? I tried using png jpg, gif, with and without transparency. I posted the code here, along with another attempt using only one jpg instead of two, but still the same results. Did I miss something? Thanks in advance.

  • Scroll Position in a Table Body

    - by Craig Walker
    I want to implement infinite scrolling (with an AJAX-based loader) in an HTML table body. My HTML looks something like this: <table> <thead> <tr><th>Column</th></tr> </thead> <tbody> <tr><td>Row 1</td></tr> <tr><td>Row 2</td></tr> </tbody> </table> I get a scroll bar on the <tbody> like so: tbody { height:10em; /* Otherwise the tbody expands to fit all rows */ overflow:auto; } To be able to do anything when the user scrolls to the bottom, I need to be able to get the scroll position of the <tbody>. In all of the (jQuery) infinite scroll implementations I've seen (such as this one), they subtract the content height from the container height and compare it to the .scrollTop() value. Unfortunately this may not work with <tbody>, which is both the viewport and the container for the scrolled content. $("tbody").height() returns the viewable (ie: "shrunken") size, but I don't know how I can get the full (viewable + hidden) size of the table body. (FWIW, $("tbody").scrollTop() returns a "large" number when scrolled to the bottom, exactly as I would expect it to). Is there any way to accomplish this?

  • Keeping footer visible and height 100% in CSS

    - by vtortola
    I'm trying to create a very simple page that contains a container, a header, a left column and a footer: <containter> <header /> <content /> <leftBar /> <footer /> </containter> I want to use the 100% of the height, as I can do with the width, but I simply dont get it work.At his moment I'm usingmin-height, but how could I use theheight:100%` ? What I like is that the footer is always visible, and you scroll the content. Current CSS body { font-family: Verdana; font-size: 0.8em; background-color:#f1f1f1; } #container { border:solid 2px Black; position:absolute; left:10%; width:80%; margin:auto; } #header { height:20px; background: #DDDDDD; } #leftBar { width: 20%; background: #669966; min-height:600px; postion:absolute; top:20px; bottom:20px; } #content { float:right; background-color: #cdcde6; position:absolute; left:20%; right:0px; bottom:20px; top:20px; padding:5px; } #footer { position:absolute; height:20px; }
