  I'm going to install a CentOS6 Server with Virtualization ( libvirtd ) capabilities on a DELL Server with Hardware RAID5 of around 6T of disk space ( It has 4x2T disks in a PERC700 RAID Controller ). I'm going then to install some guests which requires few resources except one that needs 500GB of disk space, 8/16GB of RAM and good performances. I was thinking about file images for guests storage but I'm not sure about the 500GB VM what needs good performances so that an LVM device could be better. So my question is what would be the best layout concerning: RAID setup ( RAID5, RAID1 + 1 disk for OS only. ) disk partitioning ( using the entire disk/ leave free space for future use and extending it with LVM ) guests storage management ( LVM devices or file images ( considering the 500GB VM that is performance demanding ) or mixed ) Where to put guests storage? /var/lib/libvirt/images or maybe in a custom dir separated from system /home/VMs Thanks in advance for any hint.

  My working dir is on an TrueCrypt NTFS volume, with umask 000. So I can read/write on any files with no problem. • Compiling PHP 5.3.3 on Ubuntu 8.04: Could not find libevent

  When attempting to ./configure PHP 5.3.3 on Ubuntu 8.04, I get the error: checking for libevent >= 1.4.11 install prefix... configure: error: Could not find libevent >= 1.4.11 in /usr/local/ I tried installing the libevent-dev and libevent1 packages, but same error. I then removed the packages, downloaded and compiled libevent from source. Same error. Locate shows that libevent was installed to /usr/local/lib/libevent.so with all its friends in /usr/local/lib/. I tried configuring with the option: --with-libevent-dir=/usr/local/lib/ Basically the same error: checking for libevent >= 1.4.11 install prefix... configure: error: Could not find libevent >= 1.4.11 in /usr/local/lib/ Any suggestions??

  I'd like a multi-line zsh prompt with a right alined part, that will look something like this: 2.nate@host:/current/dir 16:00 -> I know about RPROMPT in zsh, but that has a right-aligned prompt opposite your normal prompt, which is on the same line of text as your typing. Is there a way to have a right-aligned portion to the first line of a multi-line command prompt? I'm looking for either a directive in the PS1 variable that says 'right align now' or a variable that is to PS1 what RPROMPT is to PROMPT. Thanks!

• How can we achive a 403 Permissions Denied for a subdomain?

  We have a multisite installed in the root directory (multisite.com) and also a wordpress single installation on a subdomain (help.multisite.com) In the root .htaccess we placed: #START Security: Disallow access to folders Options All -Indexes # END Security On the main site (as expected we get) "403 Permission Denied. You do not have permission for this request /wp-content/blogs.dir/83/" Nice. :) BUT. We just noticed that when trying to access the subdomains folders we get: Internal Server Error. The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.... Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error... This is something we do NOT want. So the question is: How can we avoid the above result and make the message for the subdomains be "403 Permission Denied" (the same as for the main site and NOT "500 Internal Server Error" (as it is now)? We put what, where?

  I'm testing reposman.rb on the command-line (before I make it a cron job): /usr/sbin/reposman.rb --svn-dir=/var/svn \ --redmine-host=http://example.com/projects --key='redacted' \ --owner='nobody' --group='nobody' It succeeded, printing messages for projects that didn't have repos yet: repository /var/svn/project1 created repository /var/svn/project2 created And printed nothing after running the same command again, indicating it remembered the repos. However, if I look at the Repository settings in Redmine for project1 and project2, they aren't set. Although the SVN repo is created, the Redmine projects aren't configured. How do I get reposman.rb to automatically configure Redmine projects to use the repos after they're set up?

I've investigated that cygWin recognizes Documents and Settings dir as home directory Z:\app\cwRsync\bin>cygpath -H /cygdrive/c/Documents and Settings I've created .ssh directory in Documents and Settings/user/.ssh and moved known_hosts, id_rsa, id_rsa.pub there. Now, I'm trying to connect via ssh.exe to remote host Z:\app\cwRsync\bin>ssh -p 22 [email protected] Could not create directory '/home/user/.ssh'. The authenticity of host '[remotehost.com]:22 ([remotehost.com]:22)' can't be established. RSA key fingerprint is f7:f4:2c:e0:c6:7e:d2:a4:45:70:63:df:bf:f2:84:46. Are you sure you want to continue connecting (yes/no)? What I'm doing wrong? Why ssh.exe couldn't create directory /home/user/.ssh? Thank you.

It seems to look at the disk for a few seconds and then ends up at a screen saying windows failed to start and then I hit enter and it loads windows XP again. Does anyone know what could cause this? • How to symlink folders and exclude certain files

  Hey Guys, I'm not a server guru (unfortunately) but have a decent knowledge of linux & bsd. I'm trying to symlink multiple instances of HLDS (game server) but need to exclude certain folders & config files to achieve this properly. I need to do it this way as HLDS loads many mods automatically, and putting an exception to disable the mods doesnt work for all of them. so basically i want: /home/user/hlds-install (the base install) /home/user/server1 /home/user/server2 etc... and then be able to manually put any configs/mods ive excluded into the server dir's so that each server can be configured individually. Can anyone tell me how to do this, perhaps some sort of bash script so that I can just change the targets to run it each time i want to create a new one. I have quite a number to make so doing the whole thing manually for each one definately isn't an option and im all for working smarter, not harder! Thanks :)

  I am having problems with a NTFS disk mounted as a fuseblk in my ubuntu 12.10 through external usb3. When I did a 1.1TB backup with rsync the speed was 1-2MB/s (wiht a ext4 disk speed was 70 MB/s before and after trying the NTFS disk). Also after one hour errors started to appear: rsync: write failed on "xxx": No such file or directory recv_files: "yyy" is a directory #but this file is a FILE not a dir ??!! .... As this is the first time I have mounted the NTFS in linux for heavy usage (the data would be used in windows afterwards), I would like to know if this kind of thinks are common o was only that something became unstable in my system and a simply restart would probably have solved it. This leads me to the these questions: Can I trust fuse for manage NTFS disks? Or is a problem of the NTFS tools in linux not yet totally stables for writing? Do people is still suffering from low performance with fuse-NTFS vs ext4 (in the past I have read about people complaining about this)?

  I ran the following from my top level Ruby on Rails directory find . -name "*.rb" | etags - Then within emacs I visited that tag file. This works reasonably well to find some of the methods and most of the files, however it is having trouble finding some of the extra methods/classes that I use in my helpers directory. e.g. I have a file in my helpers dir called my_foo_helper.rb If I search my tags for that file, it finds it. However, if I try to find a tag for one of the methods within that module it doesn't find it at all. If I use Aptana or something like that it seems to be able to locate those methods. Any thoughts?   I have lots of different websites in a Development directory in my home dir. While developing, files get saved under my username but websites configured under apache it's permission need to be set as _www user and group. What's the best way to handle this? Do I run apache under a different user/group? Do I run my development tools under a different user? Do add myself to the _www group? (seems like it doesn't work btw) I've just switched to a mac and I'm trying to find a smooth development workflow, so it would be best if i could just run the necessary tools, save some files and be able to test the website without much hassle.   Is there a way to make the file/dir auto-complete in bash case insensitive? For example I would like to write: /opt/ibm/whatever/test [TAB] And bash will auto-complete it to: /opt/IBM/Whatever/TESTfile Or at least only the last part of test to TESTfile. I know that filesystems are case-sensitive, I just don't want to remember which parts are UPPER-case, I want auto-complete to fix the path for me. And if I have both TESTfile and testfile, just show me both of them like bash does today with auto-complete conflicts.

  I got a wireless broadband modem (Huawei E1750) hooked up to my computer (call it A., running Windows-7) whose internet I wish to share to my other computer (call it B., also running Windows-7).   First, I ran: sudo su postgres createuser -U postgres foouser -P which worked fine, and I ran: createdb -U foouser -E utf8 -O foouser foodatabase -T template0 and got "permission denied: cannot create database" Firstly, should I even su as postgres to do operations like the first one (assuming my postgres data dir is owned by postgres), or is -U postgres from any user (assuming trust is used in pg_hba.conf) sufficient? Secondly, why am I running into this error? Is this because the user foouser is a non-superuser? Should I create foodatabase using the postgres user and simply -O foouser?

• Amazon mount EBS

  I'm trying to mount /vol to a EBS volume on an Amazon EC2 instance. I'm formatting the device to xfs, adding "/dev/sdh /vol xfs noatime 0 0" to my /etc/fstab file, making the /vol dir and mounting it and whenever I try to do anything with that volume (create a file in /vol, cd, ls, anything) or I try to run df the server just freezes. Anyone have any idea what this might be? It's driving me crazy. Edit: It seems to freeze after I mount, has nothing to do with doing any commands to the volume it's self.

  Normally I develop under E_ALL error level, but for sanity on this project I want notices and strict off. So initially tried: error_reporting(E_ALL & ~(E_STRICT|E_NOTICE)); And several other combinations of the same thing, nothing worked. Next I tried to create a local php.ini the directory with error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_NOTICE but nope, that didn't work either. phpinfo() is reporting: Scan this dir for additional .ini files: (none) Can someone help me fix either of these problems?   I have a HP Pavilion TX2000 tablet PC with me with windows 7 OS running on it. I used to access the Internet using my D-Link DIR 615 wireless adapter on the tablet and it used to work quite fine until one day, when I hibernated my Windows 7, the wireless went off and the problem seems to persist even after my hard efforts to clear it. I checked if the router works fine, and yes it did as my iPod was still catching wireless signals on the other hand, when I checked mu device manager, I realized that I now had no wireless driver. I checked on HP's website for one, but ironically even they didn't have wireless drivers meant for my tablet for Windows 7. Please help me find a solution to this problem. • Print server does not show up on router's attached devices

  Recently I bought a new more powerful wireless N router, DLink DIR 628. So I removed all connections from the previous router (Netgear WGT624) and connected them as they should be to the DLInk router. Everything works fine except for the print server. I have Hawking print server connected to HP Laserjet 6P parallel port printer. It works well with the Netgear router. But when I connect it to the DLInk router, it does not even show up in the LAN computers list. I am not sure what is going on. There is a utility called PSAdmin that can talk to the Hawking print server if I switch to Netgear router. With that utility, I can get the assigned IP address to the print server. But when switching to DLink router, even the PSAdmin fails to find the print server. I have been trying various things for last couple of days in vein. Please help.
