  • list python package dependencies without loading them ?

    Say that python package A requires B, C and D; is there a way to list A → B C D without loading them ? Requires in the metadata (yolk -M A) are often incomplete, grr. One can download A.tar / A.egg, then look through A/setup.py, but some of those are pretty gory. (I'd have thought that getting at least first-level dependencies could be mechanized; even a 98 % solution would be better than avalanching downloads.) A related question: pip-upgrade-package-without-upgrading-dependencies

    I am having an issue where I need to be able to specify the password when I run my packages. This article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918760 says: Method 3: Set the SSIS Package ProtectionLevel property to EncryptSensitiveWithPassword Change the SSIS Package ProtectionLevel property to EncryptSensitiveWithPassword. This setting uses a password for encryption. You can then modify the SQL Server Agent job step command line to include this password. That all sounds well and good. But where and how to you specify the password?   • strip version from package name using Bash

    hi, I'm trying to strip the version out of a package name using only Bash. I have one solution but I don't think that's the best one available, so I'd like to know if there's a better way to do it. by better I mean cleaner, easier to understand. suppose I have the string "my-program-1.0" and I want only "my-program". my current solution is: #!/bin/bash PROGRAM_FULL="my-program-1.0" INDEX_OF_LAST_CHARACTER=`awk '{print match($0, "[A-Za-z0-9]-[0-9]")} <<< $PROGRAM_FULL` PROGRAM_NAME=`cut -c -$INDEX_OF_LAST_CHARACTER <<< $PROGRAM_FULL` actually, the "package name" syntax is an RPM file name, if it matters. thanks!

  • Trying to find resources to learn how to test software [closed]

    First off, yes this is a general question, and I'd be perfectly happy to move this to another portion of SE, but I didn't see a more fitting sub. Basically, I am hoping a more experienced QA tester can come along and really fill in some basics for me. So far, websites seem to be sparse in terms of explaining languages involved, basic practices, etc. So, I'm sorry in advance if this is too general, but towards the end of this post I ask some specific questions if it's just absolutely unacceptable to speak in general terms. I just landed a position as Junior Systems and QA Engineer with a social media startup. Their QA and testing is almost nonexistent, so if I do a good job, I imagine I'll find a lot of bugs and have a secure role in the business. I'm pretty good with the systems aspect of my role, but I need to learn more about the QA and testing aspects. We run hardware that's touchscreen based - the user can use and interact with the devices. So, in terms of my QA role, in the short term, I need to build scripts to test the hardware/software as a 'user' to try to uncover bugs. First off, what language should these scripts be written in? Does anyone have some examples? What about the longer term 'automated testing'? I'm familiar with regression testing as the developer adds in new features, sure, but the 50,000 other types of testing, not so much. Most of our hardware runs dotnet/C# code, with some of the servers running Java - but I don't expect to need to run tests on the Java side at this point. I hope to meet with one developer today and try to get a good idea of the output from the hardware so that I can 'mock' this data that gets sent to servers, to try to bugtest. Eventually, we will be moving the hardware to be closer to where I live and work, so that I can test virtually and on real hardware. So a lot of the bugs we're dealing with now are like this: the Local Server, which kiosks report their data to gets updated from the kiosks, but the remote server does not. Or, vis versa when the user registers on a kiosk, the remote server updates but the local server does not. But yeah, without much more detail, I imagine a lot of this info isn't helpful. I've bought a book "How Google Tests Software", but it's really a book more about 'how their software testing is different from Microsoft'. It doesn't teach how to test so much as why their methods are better. Does anyone have a good book that I can buy? An ebook maybe? My local Barnes and Noble kinda had a terrible selection. I also figure a book from 2005 is not necessarily that good either.

  • Find only physical network adapters with WMI Win32_NetworkAdapter class

    WMI is Windows Management Instrumentation infrastructure for managing data and machines. We can access it by using WQL (WMI querying language or SQL for WMI). One thing to remember from the WQL link is that it doesn't support ORDER BY. This means that when you do SELECT * FROM wmiObject, the returned order of the objects is not guaranteed. It can return adapters in different order based on logged-in user, permissions of that user, etc… This is not documented anywhere that I've looked and is derived just from my observations. To get network adapters we have to query the Win32_NetworkAdapter class. This returns us all network adapters that windows detect, real and virtual ones, however it only supplies IPv4 data. I've tried various methods of combining properties that are common on all systems since Windows XP. The first thing to do to remove all virtual adapters (like tunneling, WAN miniports, etc…) created by Microsoft. We do this by adding WHERE Manufacturer!='Microsoft' to our WMI query. This greatly narrows the number of adapters we have to work with. Just on my machine it went from 20 adapters to 5. What was left were one real physical Realtek LAN adapter, 2 virtual adapters installed by VMware and 2 virtual adapters installed by VirtualBox. If you read the Win32_NetworkAdapter help page you'd notice that there's an AdapterType that enumerates various adapter types like LAN or Wireless and AdapterTypeID that gives you the same information as AdapterType only in integer form. The dirty little secret is that these 2 properties don't work. They are both hardcoded, AdapterTypeID to "0" and AdapterType to "Ethernet 802.3". The only exceptions I've seen so far are adapters that have no values at all for the two properties, "RAS Async Adapter" that has values of AdapterType = "Wide Area Network" and AdapterTypeID = "3" and various tunneling adapters that have values of AdapterType = "Tunnel" and AdapterTypeID = "15". In the help docs there isn't even a value for 15. So this property was of no help. Next property to give hope is NetConnectionId. This is the name of the network connection as it appears in the Control Panel -> Network Connections. Problem is this value is also localized into various languages and can have different names for different connection. So both of these properties don't help and we haven't even started talking about eliminating virtual adapters. Same as the previous one this property was also of no help. Next two properties I checked were ConfigManagerErrorCode and NetConnectionStatus in hopes of finding disabled and disconnected adapters. If an adapter is enabled but disconnected the ConfigManagerErrorCode = 0 with different NetConnectionStatus. If the adapter is disabled it reports ConfigManagerErrorCode = 22. This looked like a win by using (ConfigManagerErrorCode=0 or ConfigManagerErrorCode=22) in our condition. This way we get enabled (connected and disconnected adapters). Problem with all of the above properties is that none of them filter out the virtual adapters installed by virtualization software like VMware and VirtualBox. The last property to give hope is PNPDeviceID. There's an interesting observation about physical and virtual adapters with this property. Every virtual adapter PNPDeviceID starts with "ROOT\". Even VMware and VirtualBox ones. There were some really, really old physical adapters that had PNPDeviceID starting with "ROOT\" but those were in pre win XP era AFAIK. Since my minimum system to check was Windows XP SP2 I didn't have to worry about those. The only virtual adapter I've seen to not have PNPDeviceID start with "ROOT\" is the RAS Async Adapter for Wide Area Network. But because it is made by Microsoft we've eliminated it with the first condition for the manufacturer. Using the PNPDeviceID has so far proven to be really effective and I've tested it on over 20 different computers of various configurations from Windows XP laptops with wireless and bluetooth cards to virtualized Windows 2008 R2 servers. So far it always worked as expected. I will appreciate you letting me know if you find a configuration where it doesn't work.     I want to install gettext but i cannot because my AIX says that gettext is dependent on glib and when i try to install glib it says that I cannot because glib is in turn dependent on gettext. Attempting to install pdo_dblib from the appropriate version php source code. I have tried a variety of methods and searched quite a bit for help on this topic, but have yet to be successful. But changing pdo.ini to pdo_0.ini was not the solution, as I still got the same errors on make test. $ su $ make install Output: Installing shared extensions: /usr/lib64/php/modules/ That seems strange...and no, it doesn't actually install (not showing up on phpinfo after apache restart). Method 2 Install freetds following the instructions exactly, i add the prefix $ ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/freetds $ make $ su root Password: $ make install This is successful Install pdo_dblib inside the /ext/pdo_dblib folder: $ phpize $ ./configure --with-sybase=/usr/local/freetds This produces the following error at the bottom of the output ... checking for PDO_DBLIB support via FreeTDS... yes, shared configure: error: Cannot find FreeTDS in known installation directories Method 3 freetds ./configure variation (including or not include the --prefix...) did not change the result of this so I'll skip it. Install pdo_dblib pecl extension following the method specified here. pecl download pdo_dblib tar -xzvf PDO_DBLIB-1.0.tgz Removed the line, <dep type=”ext” rel=”ge” version=”1.0?>pdo</dep> Saved the package.xml file, and moved it in to the PDO_DBLIB directory. mv package.xml ./PDO_DBLIB-1.0 Navigated to the PDO_DBLIB directory, then installed the package from the directory. cd ./PDO_DBLIB-1.0 pecl install package.xml But, this command gives me the following error output, same as Method 2. checking for PDO_DBLIB support via FreeTDS... yes, shared configure: error: Cannot find FreeTDS in known installation directories ERROR: `/home/sybase/Install_items/pecl_pdo_dblib/PDO_DBLIB-1.0/configure' failed

  • upgrade glibc on RHEL4 without breaking anything

    I have a static version of wkhtmltopdf which requires glibc-2.4 wkhtmltopdf: /lib/tls/libc.so.6: version `GLIBC_2.4' not found (required by wkhtmltopdf) I have apt installed with the DAG repos. Other than that the server is pretty stock standard except for Coldfusion MX7. My question is, is it safe to just "apt update glibc"? Will the updated glibc clobber the old one or will they co-exist? Should I "apt upgrade" the whole server? I'm pretty sure everything else (Apache2, Postgres8, etc) will handle the upgrade but Coldfusion concerns me due to its proprietry nature.

  • Kickstart installation: Unable to read package metadata

    I'm trying to install a CentOS OS with kickstart using HTTP as the installation source. The kickstart server and the installed server are both running on VMs on the same machine. after the anaconda system installer starts it fails with the following message: I tried installing two different versions of Centos(5.5 and 5.2), and they both pass a CDROM media test the manual installation provides. The only errors on the kickstart server side are some errors in the httpd log I consider irrelevant: [Sat Mar 12 23:25:19 2011] [error] [client 192.168.1.112] File does not exist: /tftpboot/linux-install/platforms/CentOS5.5/images/product.img [Sat Mar 12 23:25:19 2011] [error] [client 192.168.1.112] File does not exist: /tftpboot/linux-install/platforms/CentOS5.5/disc1 I tried searching the internet for days and haven't found any solution... Does anyone have any idea?

  • Wireless network not working Linux Mint

    I have a home LAN that I am confident is working properly (I have a Windows 7 and an Ubuntu Desktop machine that both see the router and a working Internet connection). I just installed Linux Mint (Maya) on a new machine and although I can connect to the Internet via a wired (ethernet) connection, it does not see my wireless network. In fact, as you can see in the screenshot below, it doesn't even look like it has the drivers to be able to detect a wireless network... I have ran update manager and made sure that I am up-to-date with everything and have restarted. Any ideas here?!?

This output is repeated for every mirror. Any ideas why this doesn't work?
