  • How do you do a limit query in HQL

    - by stevedbrown
In Hibernate 3, is there a way to do the equivalent of the following MySql limit in HQL. select * from a_table order by a_table_column desc limit 0, 20; I don't want to use setMaxResults if possible. This definitely was possible in the older version of Hibernate/HQL, but seems to have disappeared.

  • Mapping @OneToOne with @Where clause

    - by Gabriel
I am trying to map an entity as following @OneToOne(mappedBy = "localizedLabel") @JoinColumn(insertable = false, updatable = false) @WhereJoinTable(clause = "locale='en_US'") public Localization getEn_US() { return en_US; } I can assure that the data will return only one or null if the not found, but hibernate seems to ignore my @Where clause: ERROR com.eventtouch.bc.business.core.log.LoggingInterceptor - org.hibernate.HibernateException: More than one row with the given identifier was found: 4211, for class: com.eventtouch.bc.business.domain.LocalizedLabel Any ideas on ho to map a @OneToOne relationship with @Where clause? Thanks

  • GORM "getNextException" equivalent

    - by Josh K
GORM sits on top of [Hibernate](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hibernate_(Java). The issue is that sometimes Hibernate will throw exceptions from the JDBC driver that I can't figure out how to investigate. Specifically: Could not execute JDBC batch update; /* snip */ Caused by: java.sql.BatchUpdateException: /* snip */ [insert] was aborted. Call getNextException to see the cause. If it makes any difference I'm using PostgreSQL.

  • How can I validate two or more fields in combination?

    - by DR
I'm using JPA 2.0/Hibernate validation to validate my models. I now have a situation where the combination of two fields has to be validated: public class MyModel { public Integer getValue1() { //... } public String getValue2() { //... } } The model is invalid if both getValue1() and getValue2() are null and valid otherwise. How can I perform this kind of validation with JPA 2.0/Hibernate? With a simple @NotNull annotation both getters must be non-null to pass validation.

  • What is the best way to manage Time in a Java application?

    - by DanielHonig
So I'm using hibernate and working with an application that manages time. What is the best way to deal with times in a 24 hour clock? I do not need to worry about TimeZone issues at the beginning of this application but it would be best to ensure that this functionality is built in at the beginning. I'm using hibernate as well, just as an fyi

  • HibernateTemplate alwaysUseNewSession

    - by DD
Hi, I had a problem where I was using the hibernate template to do most of my DB work but I had a part of the system that directly accessed the session to do batch persisting. I noticed that the hibernate template session was old and would be storing cached values which didnt take into account the objects save with the session directly. What are the drawbacks of using alwaysUseNewSession? This fixes the problem as I always get up-to-date objects. Thanks.

  • Hiernate's version values in Grails app

    - by xain
Hi, looking at a database dump file, and I see many records in various tables with their version number set in values other than 0 (even 94 in one case). I understand it has to do with hibernate locking strategy, but my concern is that today is Sunday, and the site has almost no visitors so is: is this normal ? Or is there a known hibernate bug or even some programming malpractice producing this ? Thanks in advance.

  • Tomcat 7 taking ages to start up after upgrade

    - by Lawrence
I recently updated my server installation from Tomcat 6 to Tomcat 7, in order to take advantage of better connection pooling. My project uses Hibernate, for object persistance, a Mysql 5.5.20 database, and memcached for caching. When I was using Tomcat 6, Tomcat would start in about 8 seconds. After moving to Tomcat 7, it now takes between 75 - 80 seconds to start (this is on a Macbook pro 15", core i7 2Ghz, 8Gb of RAM). The only thing that has really changed between during the move from Tomcat 6 to 7 has been my context.xml file, which controls the connection pooling information: <Context antiJARLocking="true" reloadable="true" path=""> <Resource name="jdbc/test-db" auth="Container" type="javax.sql.DataSource" factory="org.apache.tomcat.jdbc.pool.DataSourceFactory" testOnBorrow="true" testOnReturn="false" testWhileIdle="true" validationQuery="SELECT 1" validationQueryTimeout="20000" validationInterval="30000" timeBetweenEvictionRunsMillis="60000" logValidationErrors="true" autoReconnect="true" username="webuser" password="xxxxxxx" driverClassName="com.mysql.jdbc.Driver" url="jdbc:mysql://databasename.us-east-1.rds.amazonaws.com:3306/test-db" maxActive="15" minIdle="2" maxIdle="10" maxWait="10000" maxAge="7200000"/> </Context> Now, as you can see, the database is running on Amazon RDS (where our live servers are), and thus is about 200ms round trip time away from my machine. I have already checked that I have security permissions to that database from my machine, (and anyway, it connects after 75 secs, so it cant be that). My initial thought was that Tomcat 7 and hibernate are doing something weird (like pre-instantiating a bunch of connections or something), and the latency to the database is amplifying the effects. While trying to diagnose the problem, I used jstack to get a stack trace of the Tomcat 7 server while its doing its startup thing. Here is the stack trace... • How well are SVG filter elements defined?

    - by Peter Becker
We are considering using SVG filters as part of our toolchain, serving the SVG to browsers capable of supporting it, while serving pre-rendered PNGs to other. One problem we noticed is that the rendering of the filter chains seems to be very inconsistent across renderers. When looking at the "filters01" example from the SVG specification, the rendering looks very different across the tools we tried. Chrome (5.0.307.11) failed to render the image, while other tools (Firefox 3.6, Opera 10.10, Inkscape 0.47, GIMP 2.6.7) render something vaguely similar in style to the picture in the specification, but no two are truly the same. Is that an issue of under-specification or are the tools just not there? If we would use SVG with filter effects: is there a reference tool that can give us a rendering the way it is intended by the spec?

  • Java Servlet framework that does things like rencoding images to preferred format etc.

    - by mP
Are there any frameworks/libraries that provide servlets/filters etc that handle reencoding on the fly of images. interpret the accept headers and output the file, reencoding into the new format if necessary by checking the actual format of the original image file. provide a low and high quality version of an image. re encode an image into new dimensions. width and height parameters might query string parameters. I could create versions of the file in all the formats, at upload time but the seems overkill. I would rather lazily create the rencoded file and stick it in a cache if it gets served again etc.

  • Slowdown after repeated hibernation in XP SP3

    - by John
I have a Dell laptop w/dual core and 4 gigs of memory. Recently my machine has started to go off in never never land for 5 to 20 minutes at a time with a lot of hard drive churning. Eventually it comes back and everything operates properly. If I manage to have task manager up CPU usage shows no more then 3 to 5% during this process. I am on a corporate network and have very good virus protection in place. The problem seems to have increased in frequency since I let an update happen to IE8 and/or I started using hibernate more frequently. Any ideas or suggestions? TIA J

  • Why is hibernation still used?

    - by Moses
I've never quite understood the original purpose of the Hibernation power state in Windows. I understand how it works, what processes take place, and what happens when you boot back up from Hibernate, but I've never truly understood why it's used. With today's technology, most notably with SSDs, RAM and CPUs becoming faster and faster, a cold boot on a clean/efficient Windows installation can be pretty fast (for some people, mere seconds from pushing the power button). Standby is even faster, sometimes instantaneous. Even SATA drives from 5-6 years ago can accomplish these fast boot times. Hibernation seems pointless to me when modern technology is considered, but perhaps there are applications that I'm not considering. What was the original purpose behind hibernation, and why do people still use it? Edit: I rescind my comment about hibernation being obsolete, as it obviously has very practical applications to laptops and mobile PCs, considering the power restrictions. I was mostly referring to hibernation being used on a desktop.

  • Windows 7 unresponsive after hibernate.

    - by Simon Verbeke
The last few days, when I get Windows out of hibernate, Windows itself gets unresponsive. I can use any of my programs that were already opened before hibernating, but the window functions (closing, changing the size etc) aren't reacting. I can't open any new programs, except for the Task Manager. Also, I don't get an Internet connection. When I use Ctrl + Alt + Del, I get either a black screen, or the regular background. Then it hangs and after a while shows me a message that Windows failed starting up that "thing"(don't know what it's called in English, something with safety, etc). I have Windows 7 Ultimate installed.

  • How to manage large number of desktop VMs?

    - by symcbean
I'm looking at the feasibility of providing remote access to multiple virtual machines. The VMs themselves will provide user desktops. To make best use of the available resources, I'd like the VMs to hibernate when the user disconnects. Which implies being able to start them up when a user connects. Ideally each user would 'own' a VM image - but if not then I'd require that the session was terminated. Obviously this would require the remote access protocol to be tied into the VM management. Is there anything out there to provide such functionality? (extra credit for open protocols! ;)

  • What is hiberfil.sys and How Do I Delete It?

    - by The Geek
You’re no doubt reading this article because there’s a gigantic hiberfil.sys file sitting in the root of your drive, and you want to get rid of it to free up some space… but you can’t! Luckily, you actually can delete it, and today we’ll show you how. The more memory you have in your PC, the bigger the file will be. So What is hiberfil.sys Anyway? Windows has two power management modes that you can choose from: one is Sleep Mode, which keeps the PC running in a low power state so you can almost instantly get back to what you were working on. The other is Hibernate mode, which completely writes the memory out to the hard drive, and then powers the PC down entirely, so you can even take the battery out, put it back in, start back up, and be right back where you were. Hibernate mode uses the hiberfil.sys file to store the the current state (memory) of the PC, and since it’s managed by Windows, you can’t delete the file. So if you never use it, and want to disable Hibernate mode, keep reading. Personally I stick with Sleep Mode the vast majority of the time, but I do use Hibernate quite often. Disable Hibernate (and Delete hiberfil.sys) in Windows 7 or Vista You’ll need to open an administrator mode command prompt by right-clicking on the command prompt in the start menu, and then choosing Run as Administrator. Once you’re there, type in the following command: powercfg -h off You should immediately notice that the Hibernate option is gone from the Shut down menu. You’ll also notice that the file is magically gone! For more about dealing with Hibernate like setting how long it takes to head into Hibernate mode, you can check out our article on How to Manage Hibernate Mode in Windows 7. Disabling Hibernate Mode in Windows XP It’s a lot easier in Windows XP to get rid of Hibernate mode… in fact, we’ve already covered it before, but we’ll cover it again. Just head into Control Panel –> Power Options, and then find the Hibernate tab. Uncheck the box, reboot your PC, and then you can delete the hiberfil.sys file. • Deleting JPA entity containing @CollectionOfElements throws ConstraintViolationException

    - by Lyle
    I'm trying to delete entities which contain lists of Integer, and I'm getting ConstraintViolationExceptions because of the foreign key on the table generated to hold the integers. It appears that the delete isn't cascading to the mapped collection. I've done quite a bit of searching, but all of the examples I've seen on how to accomplish this are in reference to a mapped collection of other entities which can be annotated; here I'm just storing a list of Integer. Here is the relevant excerpt from the class I'm storing: @Entity @Table(name="CHANGE_IDS") @GenericGenerator( name = "CHANGE_ID_GEN", strategy = "org.hibernate.id.enhanced.SequenceStyleGenerator", parameters = { @Parameter(name="sequence_name", value="course_changes_seq"), @Parameter(name="increment_size", value="5000"), @Parameter(name=" optimizer", value="pooled") } ) @NamedQueries ({ @NamedQuery( name="Changes.getByStatus", query= "SELECT c " + "FROM DChanges c " + "WHERE c.status = :status "), @NamedQuery( name="Changes.deleteByStatus", query= "DELETE " + "FROM Changes c " + "WHERE c.status = :status ") }) public class Changes { @Id @GeneratedValue(generator="CHANGE_ID_GEN") @Column(name = "ID") private final long id; @Enumerated(EnumType.STRING) @Column(name = "STATUS", length = 20, nullable = false) private final Status status; @Column(name="DOC_ID") @org.hibernate.annotations.CollectionOfElements @org.hibernate.annotations.IndexColumn(name="DOC_ID_ORDER") private List<Integer> docIds; } I'm deleting the Changes objects using a @NamedQuery: final Query deleteQuery = this.entityManager.createNamedQuery("Changes.deleteByStatus"); deleteQuery.setParameter("status", Status.POST_FLIP); final int deleted = deleteQuery.executeUpdate(); this.logger.info("Deleted " + deleted + " POST_FLIP Changes");

  • JPA/JDO entity to XML XSD generator.

    - by h2g2java
I am using JDO or JPA on GAE plugin in Eclipse. I am using smartgwt datasource, accepting an xsd. I would like to be educated how to generate an XSD from my jdo/jpa entity, vice versa. Is there a tool to do it? While datanucleas does all its magic enhancing in the Eclipse background, would I be able to somehow operate in a mode that would generate XSDs for me? Can Hibernate operate in an offline mode, to solely help me generate XSDs which I could use in GWT without deploying hibernate with my web-app? Can Hibernate even be capable of generating XSDs from entities, vice versa? Currently, I am about to write a utility to generate an xsd, given an entity class - but I am hoping I don't have to reinvent the wheel if it already exists. I am hoping people here could educate me on any available tools to ease my XSD generation. But btw, I am very wary of anything that uses Maven, because most people (like Spring) who write the Maven scripts and pom don't have the expertise to write it in a way that would spew out messages and verbosity appropriately to make it easy for me to locate model errors.

  • Weird response for controller.request.format.html? in Rails

    - by Tony
In my main controller, I have this: class MainController < ApplicationController before_filter do |controller| logger.info "controller.request.format.html? = #{controller.request.format.html?}" logger.info "controller.request.format.fbml? = #{controller.request.format.fbml?}" controller.send :login_required if controller.request.format.html? controller.send :facebook_auth_required if controller.request.format.fbml? end As expected, I get "true" for the ...fbml? line if a request comes from Facebook (my facebooker gem automatically sets the format). However, I get "5" for the ...html? line if the request comes from Facebook. Why would a method with a ? ever return a "5"? Isn't that against Rails conventions? Also, I think "5" is considered true so this might mess up my filters. Still looking into that... Any ideas?

  • refering Tomcat JNDI datasource in persistence.xml

    - by binary_runner
    in server.xml I've defined global resource (I'm using Tomcat 6): <GlobalNamingResources> <Resource name="jdbc/myds" auth="Container" type="javax.sql.DataSource" maxActive="10" maxIdle="3" maxWait="10000" username="sa" password="" driverClassName="org.h2.Driver" url="jdbc:h2:~/.myds/data/db" /> </GlobalNamingResources> I see in catalina.out that this is bound, so I suppose it's OK. In my web app I have the link to the datasource, I'm not sure it's OK: <Context> <ResourceLink global='jdbc/myds' name='jdbc/myds' type="javax.sql.Datasource"/> </Context> and in application there is persistence.xml : <persistence xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence/persistence_2_0.xsd" version="2.0"> <persistence-unit name="oam" transaction-type="RESOURCE_LOCAL"> <provider>org.hibernate.ejb.HibernatePersistence</provider> <non-jta-data-source>jdbc/myds</non-jta-data-source> <!-- class definitions here, nothing else --> <properties> <property name="hibernate.dialect" value="org.hibernate.dialect.H2Dialect"/> </properties> </persistence-unit> </persistence> It shuld be OK, but most probably this or the ResourceLink definition is wrong because I'm getting: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException: Name jdbc is not bound in this Context What's wrong and why this does not work ?

  • GlassFish can't find persistence provider for EntityManager

    - by Xorty
Hi, I am building Spring MVC project (2.5). It runs on GlassFish v3 server and I am using Hibernate for ORM mapping from Derby database. I am having trouble with deployment - GlassFish says : No Persistence provider for EntityManager named mvcspringPU. Here is how I create EntityManagerFactory : emf = Persistence.createEntityManagerFactory("mvcspringPU"); And here is my configuration file persistence.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <persistence version="1.0" xmlns="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence http://java.sun.com/xml/ns/persistence/persistence_1_0.xsd"> <persistence-unit name="mvcspringPU" transaction-type="JTA"> <provider>org.hibernate.ejb.HibernatePersistence</provider> <jta-data-source>CarsDB</jta-data-source> <properties> <property name="hibernate.hbm2ddl.auto" value="update"/> </properties> </persistence-unit> </persistence> I am building with NetBeans 6.8, so things like build paths should be alright (generated by IDE itself).
